Guy Ritchie has succeeded in out-classing Madonna. Is that difficult? Probably not. But instead of kicking Madge when she’d down, Guy instead released a statement of support. This comes just hours after a judge rejected her adoption attempt for little Mercy James, saying that Madge had not fulfilled the requirements for a prospective adoptive parent.
In Guy’s statement, he refers to Madonna as “a fantastic and loving mother who cares deeply about her own children and children who may need additional help and support.” Guy goes on to say that Madonna’s motivations for adopting were only that of a caring parent wishing to give “advantages and opportunities” to another child.
Madonna’s former husband, Guy Ritchie, has expressed his sadness over her failed adoption of a child from Malawi and praised her as a “great mum”.
A judge at Malawi’s High Court in Lilongwe rejected the singer’s application to adopt Mercy James, a four-year-old girl, ruling that the child should remain in her home country.
In a statement, Ritchie said: “Madonna is a fantastic and loving mother who cares deeply about her own children, and children who may need additional help and support. I fully supported Madonna in her decision to apply for this adoption, and I am saddened that her application has been rejected. She is motivated only by being a caring parent who seeks to share some of the advantages and opportunities that her life has given her. This time it did not work out, but there will be other opportunities and I wish her well in them. She is a great mum.”
He spoke out after Judge Esmie Chondo turned down an interim adoption application which would have allowed Madonna to take Mercy to the United States, pending a permanent decision on her future.
From The Telegraph
Even though his statement was very classy, I can’t help but think Guy was probably itching to call Madonna “It” just once. Probably not, though. Guy’s statement wasn’t just about the appearance of goodwill, he might love Madge the same way many divorced parents still love each other. Both Madonna and Guy seem to adore their kids, and he probably knows better than anyone how much she wanted to adopt Mercy.
Here’s Guy leaving his Punchbowl pub in London (sporting quite the bruise) on March 25th. Images thanks to WENN .
Maybe he feels guilty after David’s statement about missing him. I don’t really keep up on this couple, but I think he got joint custody of Rocco or at least sees him quite a bit. I get the sense that David got left behind.
I think he got joint custody of both David and Rocco. He seems like a good guy (and very happy since he got away from her) who loves all 3 kids.
This was a great thing for him to do and in spite of what’s happened between them, this probably means as lot to her. It would to me.
Well, that is very classy of him to publicly defend and support her. Madonna is a lot of things but she does seem like a good mom.
From the ex husband’s mouth straight to God’s ears.
He has more class than she could ever buy.
Good for Guy. Yeah, I’m impressed and I wish it had worked out for them. So sad.
Very nice statement.
What a nice thing to do.
Wow. Total class. That should humble a bitch called Madonna.
She does seem like a good mom, so Guy did the right thing in praising her. He is all class…it’s a shame she gets so maligned when trying to adopt, but Angie and Brad can waltz into a country and it’s granted, no bad press. It seems very unequal.
luckystar, I don’t think Brad and Angie
broke the law when they adopted. They also adopted kids who didn’t have still-living parents/grandparents who really wanted them, but couldn’t keep them b/c they are too poor. Madonna just acts like she’s above the law and doesn’t care about other people’s wishes–only her own. If she really wanted David and Maercy the right way, she wouldn’t have broken Malawi’s laws to get them.
Sorry to be so cynical, but he DOES have a film to promote. Or maybe he really IS that classy. I just can’t help thinking that he suddenly realized calling her “It” might make him some enemies that could affect the success of Sherlock Holmes, so he figured he better make up for it.
I think he’s just telling it like it is, neither being classy nor motivated by his own personal interests. Truly believe that these two, despite their differences, care deeply about their kids and would never use a situation like this for oneupmanship.
