It feels like every year, all of the hardcore fashion-watchers expect Kerry Washington to knock it out of the park. The level of expectation is so high for her, and in years past, it feels like she really struggles to live up to the hype. While her shoulder-tastic Marc Jacobs (fresh off the runway) wasn’t my cup of tea, she seemed to really love this dress and it showed. She seemed especially playful, fun and chatty on the red carpet and her great attitude makes me like the dress more. I do like that she didn’t go for a full-length gown, and she told Ryan Seacrest that since the dress is mesh, she was getting a nice breeze in the heat.
Here’s Tatiana Maslany with her date, Tom Cullen. You might know him from the last season of Downton Abbey, he played one of Lady Mary’s suitors (she banged him in the hotel!). Tatiana was on the carpet early and she seemed to know her look was killing it. She was one of the few women wearing a suit and it really worked. The suit is Bouchra Jarrar. It works (for me) because she’s showing so much skin with the plunging neckline. I don’t think I would have liked this as much as I do if the jacket had been more buttoned up. But she’s small, she’s got a great figure and this totally works. She looked lovely! She kept her styling very simple and classy too.

I like this dress a lot.
She’s gorgeous, and the dress is beautiful EXCEPT that it shows her underwear. I’ve really got a major case of undie-fatigue at this point. Kerry is one of the very loveliest of the night, but the look is all ruined for me by the transparency of the dress, which interferes with its visual flow. The eye can’t take in the flow at all, in fact, because it’s interrupted by the lines of Kerry’s underwear.

I like the dress but not for the Emmys. I think this would have been a perfect dress for the Met ball of a couple years ago when the theme was sort of rock/fashion.
It’s probably not but it looks so heavy.

BUT that dress is fug as hell. It makes her look like a knight on a crusade.

Okay. I’m so over this ‘show off your granny panties with a see through excuse of a dress’ trend. It needs to just go away. Go. AWAY.
Never quite understood how basic briefs equal ” granny panties” – seems sort of silly and attempts to be insulting – they are underwear that women of all ages wear. I do not care for the see through look but Washington is hardly wearing ” granny panties” – is there nothing else but thongs and “granny panties”?
I am so tired of seeing people’s underwear.

when in reality, it refers to anything that is full coverage in the bottom area. And that I can’t hate. if worn correctly.

I think the slit on Kerry’s dress is too much.
As far as the suit goes: Personally, I wouldn’t mind her wearing a nice little blouse underneath.
Kerry’s dress looks like some Project Runway challenge nightmare.
Kerry’s dress looks awesome and fun! I’m all for any garment that makes a woman act joyful and confident. I loved her dress!
Love Kerry, the dress is ok, just didn’t like the shoulders so much, but it’s a nice dress, and i like her makeup and hair.
That being said, I was very disappointed that she wasn’t nominated this year, because as a Scandal fan, I think she wasn’t great on the 3rd season (possibly because of all the effort put on hiding her pregnancy), but the 4th season she was AMAZING (albeit stupid in the end for going back to that idiot president), but at times, her performance gave me chills.
But I am super happy for queen Viola. She’s amazing.
I mean Kerry is a great actress and her performance is divine but the quality of writing on that show (which was never that great) has fallen considerably. Ironically the same goes for Tatianna who deserves an Emmy because who else can play 10 or so distinct characters in one show? But the writing on Orphan Black has never matched that first season.
I agree that both shows were better early on, but the quality drop off on Scandal is far greater, IMO.
Both women are very talented and I was happy Tatiana finally got nominated, and they both look gorgeous here. Kerry’s dress…not sure. I just hate the see through skirt trend.

Kerry is mah girl and I love what she’s wearing. But Tatiana knocks it out of the park in that outfit.
I really like the front, but hate the back and bottom of Kerry’s dress. So it’s a 1/4 win for me. The V-neck and sleeves are super elegant. It’s a confusing gown.
Yeah I kept tilting my head trying to make her dress work, but it’s ill coceived and ill fitting. That face tho. *swoons*
Same with Tatiana; hair and face look great but then…what is happening with those pants? I would have liked her look better if they were tailored more.

I loved the idea of Kerry’s dress, especially the colors and texture, but it needed editing. Just a bit too much going on (i.e. cut down the shoulder stuff and remove the back ornament).
Yes, exactly. I think her hair and makeup are pretty perfect, though.

Love Tatiana’s suit thing. Anyone watching Orphan Black know she is fit as heck. I find her really pretty too, she pulls off minimalist really well.
Didn’t like Kerry’s dress, but I do appreciate that she always comes out to play when fashion is involved. I don’t always like her choices, but I love that she is playful, inventive, never boring or predictable. And she always looks like she is comfortable and likes her outfit, that’s nice too (bc sometimes you can just feel the pain in actresses’ faces when wearing uncomfortable dresses).
Now, Tatiana…always impeccable! Simple, elegant, classy, beautiful. I thought Viola was really the best in her category this year and absolutely deserving of her win, but I would have loved to see Tatiana be nominated and win back in season 1 of Orphan Black.

Whoever dresses Olivia Pope should dress Kerry Washington. She has the worst taste on the red carpet. That dress is a disaster. The ruffles on the shoulders and down the back detract from the overall style and her hair is a mess. And as several people have noted above, nobody wants to see her unmentionables.
Now if she had borrowed that white Calvin Klein halter dress she wore in episode 3 of the first season from the Scandal prop room, she would have knocked it clear out of the ball park.
Tatiana looks super classy, love it!!! Kerry is a beauty she doesn’t need that fussiness it’s overcrowding her. Simple and elegant always looks best.
