Rumer Willis starts using Twitter, is ‘blown away’ by it

Rumer Willis
Rumer Willis told People Magazine that her mother got her to start using Twitter and called it “one of the only outlets in the online world that’s positive.” Rumer’s step father Ashton Kutcher and her mother Demi Moore are prolific twitterers, interacting with their friends, each other and fans in 140 characters or less.

“My mom got me [tweeting], and I didn’t realize it but I had a whole conversation with her last night,” Willis, who was honored at Showest along with her costars of the summer flick Sorority Row, tells PEOPLE. “It’s one of the only outlets in the online world that’s positive. It’s purely positive. It’s about people supporting other people.”

Two of the people she follows? Moore and her hubby Ashton Kutcher, both avid users of Twitter.

“They do it all the time and it kind of blows my mind,” says Willis, 20, who also admits that sometimes it’s just too much information.

I tried to use Twitter but I just found that it became yet another thing that I had to keep up with.It can be a useful way of connecting with friends, talking to people on the site, and getting feedback and information, but I got caught up in other things and found I wasn’t motivated to keep up. Facebook is a little more my speed although I realize it’s a different type of community.

We’ve bashed Kutcher and Moore in the past for constantly tweeting back and forth, but if they’re having a good time with it and don’t regret posting all that information about their goings-on more power to them. Moore recently posted a sexy cell phone picture of herself in glasses, her hair draped seductively over one eye. It wasn’t the first photo she’s put up of herself. You can’t help but think that using Twitter is a way she’s getting validation from fans. She’s friendly and welcoming enough online, though. Moore recently brought attention to a woman she follows who posted details of her suicide attempt online. Other twitter users saw Demi’s response to the woman, “Hope you are joking,” and alerted police in San Jose, who went to the woman’s home. She is reportedly now in the hospital.

Just a note to Twitter users – Tweets can essentially never be deleted, and even deleted tweets are indexed by the Twitter search engine. There’s a service called Tweleted that can search for deleted posts by specific users. Celebrities can talk a lot of crap without worrying too much about future bosses finding their conversations online, but regular people need to be concerned about how they’re perceived online and whether it will affect them in the future, particularly college students.

i really like twitter – this is why: i have a little side section on my blog where the last five of my tweets show up. i like that i can text into twitter and update my blog in a quick way, so even if i don’t have time to do an all out blog my “peeps” are staying updated.

What do you mean by Facebook catering to a different community from Twitter? It seems like they both have the same target demographics? (I.e. anyone and everyone?)

  12. Celebitchy says:

Sam I mean that Facebook is a different type of community than Twitter, it has a different feel because it has different functions and a slightly different purpose. I didn’t mean the people are different at all, just the ways they interact using the tools available on the sites.

  13. NJMDPS says:

    What purpose does she serve???????

I too, feel sorry for Rumor. She wouldn’t have such a difficult time if she didn’t insist on being an actress or in the public eye. The Hollywood eye.
Maybe I’m being too cynical in thinking that she will never be able to get anywhere because she is does not have the ‘typical’ good looks that are expected of Hollywood.
I wish it were different. She might be a lovely person and a wonderful actress (who knows). But I think she will find it heartbreaking and painful to try to insist on being a celebrity.
Maybe if she tried stage instead of screen?

I think it is sad that her parents are online reading the comments on how people think she is fugly. How heartbreaking for a parent.
