Steve Jobs comes out in theaters today, which is why the cast and screenwriter have been giving tons of interviews this week. Who would have thought a month ago that Steve Jobs would have the completely uncontroversial promotional tour and Suffragette would be making all of the headlines this week? Weird, right? Anyway, the above photo of Michael Fassbender is from an set of exclusive portraits Fassy and the cast did with The Hollywood Reporter. THR also did a massive story about the making of the film – go here to read. Apparently, Jobs’ widow was calling movie stars like Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale, begging them to refuse to take the role. Which is why Leo was interested at first and then backed out, and they scrambled to find a replacement. We know that because of the Sony Hack!
Even after all of the drama surrounding this film from its infancy, critics love the film and they love Fassbender’s performance. The film currently has a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is pretty amazing. Most critics are already saying that he will get his second Oscar nomination for this film. Which brings up Fassy’s history with the Oscar campaign thing – after he didn’t get nominated for Shame, he was sort of bratty about it. I’m pleasantly surprised to see him playing the game a little bit for this film though.
Speaking of playing the game, Fassy was on The Tonight Show last night. The only clip online is where Jimmy Fallon and Fassy talk about their altar boy pasts, and Fassy even confesses that he made some money as an altar boy.

He didn’t campaign much on 12 Years a Slave and was nominated. He probably should have won. He’ll get a nod for Jobs either way. He’s just that good.
I don’t think he campaigned for 12 Years because he was still pouting about the snub. Which is a shame (pardon the pun) because of how important that film was.
I dislike Jared Leto but he deserved the oscar.
I disagree. I thought Leto was good but i don’t feel he was that better than the other supporting actors. And he is certainly not a more accomplished actor than Fassbender. Much like i don’t think Matthew was better than Chiwetel. Most of it is political or whoever the academy think is due. I am pretty sure 12 years a slave will go down as a better movie than dallas buyers club. The latter was just less controversial/uncomfrotable watch and i think Matthew and Leto benefitted from that.
It wasn’ t Matthew’s or Jared’s time to win an oscar. The academy likes when actors transform their bodies. It’s more that than anything else. 12 years is a better film. I won’t argue that.
@Leah – Politics has Always played a role in these awards. It is rare when it’s not a factor. There are many actors who are. Dry good at what they do but many times they win for the wrong one. Chiwitel was definitely better than Mathew and Leto did not move me as much as Michael brought out negative emotions toward his character.
Chiwitel and Michael could have kissed every bum in Hollywood. They wanted Matthew and Jared to have it.
Chiwitel and Michael are not as known. It is obvious in Michael’s case as Aaron Sorkin had no idea who he was. After 12 years I think people are starting to notice what awesome actors they are . Many of us already knew it of both is these men. Some people are just waking up.
Ha! That interview was hilarious!
Made money doing what??? I hope it was stealing from the collection basket because the other ways I can imagine an altar boy making money are very disturbing.
My thought too!!
He said the groom would tip him after a wedding. I was wondering “altar boys are paid?” Or also thought maybe he took money left at the altar after communion. But it was legit.
My kids are altar servers. If they serve at a wedding, they receive $10 because they are giving up part of their Saturday or holiday to help. No big deal.
It’s pretty standard practice for altar boys to receive tips for serving at weddings.
Altar boys/girls do get tipped after weddings and sometimes for funerals (depending on the family).
I was raised catholic and that title still made me go …. Ohhhhh. Please no. Even though I know that it’s common to tip altar boys at weddings and funerals etc.
Haha when I was an alter server in ireland we used to make money from funerals and weddings. You got off school AND had money to buy sweets. Living the dream! Haha!
Here altar boys also take the purse for donations through the crowd. I was half expecting him to say he stole from that. 😀
This is the first interview I’ve watched with him. My iPad fell on my face and woke me up. I’m taking that as a sign from Steve Jobs in heaven that I should skip the film.
hahahaha!
Lol. I would be afraid to ignore that one.
He wears a suit so well.
I don’t know, I’m starting to feel a little Fassy fever. He looks really good in that last picture. Normally I think he looks a little bit…..dirty maybe? Can’t think of the right word.
When talking about Fassbender I think “dirty” is always the right word. The good dirty.
Abbess, do you mind if I steal that “Fassy Fever” expression, I love it and have a very bad case of the same. Is there any known cure?
@ Antipodean, absolutely you may steal “Fassy fever” ;).
Thanks for the clip. I’m looking forward to the movie, but won’t be able to see it for a few weeks, because of limited release. I don’t think he has really come to terms with the oscar campaigning stuff. He’s doing the interviews–will he do all the lunches and begging that seems to be required?
Can we discuss the suit please? Like, omg it’s gorgeous! He looks so classy and we’re not used to seeing him that classy lol
Ah my boy is all grown up. I kinda miss drunk, bad boy Fassy
Then you have not seem much of him because there are plenty of opportunities in which he is dressed to perfection. But regardless of what he wears I think he always looks good.
Just from this bit he doesn’t seem an interesting live interview.
I like the fact his interviews are normal like having a conversation, he doesn’t need to work the audience and ham it up to impress the audience. He likes acting is good at it and interviews and press stuff is an obligation which he’ll do I guess cause he has to, won’t be mean about it just gets the job done.
