Last night was the first Democratic presidential candidate debate. And OMG, I really could not watch for more than a few minutes here and there. I’m sorry. I’m a long-time Dem and I found it boring and irritating. I kind of want Joe Biden to get in the race just so that we won’t have to see Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton yell at each other for the next three months. While Bernie, Hillary, Martin O’Malley and Lincoln Chaffee all threw some punches, it was Donald Trump who “won” the night in some circles. Trump promised to live-tweet the entire two-hour debate and he followed through. Trump “won” because he gained, by Time Mag’s count, about 60,000 new Twitter followers. Hillary Clinton got 15,000 new followers and Bernie Sanders got 50,000 new followers. You can see Trump’s Twitter feed here – he was retweeting a lot of stuff and trash-talking the Dems.
Meanwhile, it was announced yesterday that Donald Trump will be hosting Saturday Night Live on November 7th. Hillary Clinton notably did a bit on the season premiere episode, but she did not host. This means Trump will have to stay in New York for a whole week and actually rehearse and do skits live. Of course, he’s hosted SNL before – the last time he hosted was 2004. There’s some question about whether Trump will be able to mock himself, whether he’ll allow himself to be the butt of some jokes. I don’t know… he’s a racist piece of trash, but I kind of believe that he’ll be down with doing whatever the writers want him to do.
One of the funniest parts of this story is the musical guest that night will be Sia. POOR SIA. Good God, I already feel sorry for her.

I’m sort of curious as to how they will handle this. Will they allow him to control the show, or will he actually have a sense of humor? I can’t see it going well, but okay, I’ll admit to being slightly curious.
But this mostly makes me think that SNL is struggling for relevancy these days and is just trying to stay in the news. I don’t know anyone left who watches it routinely.

I dont know ..he was pretty hilarious on Fallon, mainly by being himself, and yes, getting in on the jokes about himself. And his comments on people can be so funny, esp if you’re not worried about being PC. The bit about Rosie had the whole country laughing. He doesnt try to be funny, he just is bc he is so brutally honest. This will get some crazy high viewer ratings.

I’d be willing to bet that a LOT of people won’t be watching. hell, I’d love it if every cast member who is a person of color or female refused to participate, much like when Nora Dunn (and others) didn’t perform when Andrew “Dice” Clay was the host. I hope Sia cancels, too.

Wouldn’t it be convenient if you could tear someone you don’t like down enough to make their relevance disappear? I mean, the effort and time to express your disdain and out quip others , if only it could make him go away….., maybe putting that energy into someone you believe in instead of desperately( it comes across so desperate) focusing on some you would supposedly sleep than watch….,,,
Talking of the candidate debates, I find it strange that American politicians from the same party fight in public like that. Here in Oz, public debates are only between members of different parties. People on the same side act friendly until they’re in power and then stab each other in the back.
(Not saying one is any better than the other, just that it’s an utterly different style of politics, you know?)

The people who support Trump don’t want someone who will work with other countries. They want someone who will order other countries around. They see no value in diplomacy and believe peace is only achieved through bombs.

I’m not sure he will be allowed to say anything political at all. Aren’t there rules for broadcast TV about equal access for all candidates? If he says one thing about his campaign or the primaries race, NBC might have to let ALL the potential candidates appear on SNL. Anybody know what the actual rules are? Am I talking out of my ass?
Found it: it’s the a Equal Time law.
“The equal-time rule specifies that U.S. radio and television broadcast stations must provide an equivalent opportunity to any opposing political candidates who request it. This means, for example, that if a station gives one free minute to a candidate in prime time, it must do the same for another candidate who requests it.”
Apparently the FCC can provide exemptions for “entertainment” shows on a case by case basis. This might be interesting!

Has anyone watched “The Waldo Moment” episode of Black Mirror? That is what Trump’s run reminds me of and it terrifies me. From whatever angle you look at it, the fact he has any form of support is just terrible.

Far from a Trump fan, but I watched some of the sketches from his last hosting job, and they weren’t terrible. They weren’t exceptionally GOOD, but they were no worse than most of the non-actors who hosted. (It was a lot better than Steven Seagal’s, but that’s saying almost nothing). Regardless, I don’t watch his stupid face on anything more than I have to, so I won’t be tuning in. If something happens that’s notable, I’m sure I’ll hear about it somewhere else.
Well, that gives me one more reason NOT to watch #$%^ SNL.
