Even though Zac Efron sometimes seems too pretty to be real, I don’t really hate the kid. He’s trying, and I’m very happy that he doesn’t seem to be one of these young Hollywood “cool guys” who exist only to party and womanize. Zac actually seems like he might be a sweet kid with a lot of ambition.
So Zac is trying to build a long-lasting career for himself. Some people claim he’s sick with jealous at the attention Robert Pattinson has received, and Zac wants to make his career more like Pattinson’s “edgy” stuff rather than the more kid-friendly, musical, G-rated stuff Zac’s been doing. But Zac just can’t quit being the guy every mother wants for her daughter. He’s got to give producers a reason to hire him – his non-partying, squeaky clean image is for real:
Zac Efron insists he won’t let himself get “distracted” by the Hollywood party scene.
The High School Musical star — who turned 21 in October last year — says his he won’t risk his career by going out and drinking to excess every night.
He explains, “There’s a time for celebration and I partake, sure. But, you know, it’s important not to let that become too big of a distraction. The more you have access to, the harder it is to remain focused.
“You know what, I do not want to fall victim to that, it’s too easy and too often done. It’s out of style anyway, I think too many people have done it before me, I’m not going to.”
“It’s uncool, yeah. I think the rebellious thing to do would to actually be successful.”

Oh my God, “uncool”! That word haunts me. But I agree with Zac, in young Hollywood today, it is a rebellion to work hard, take your job seriously, and treat your co-workers and fans with respect. He’s not James Dean, y’all. But he’s not trying to be James Dean, so it’s okay. He just wants the chance to get a few edgy roles so he won’t have to still be playing characters in high school when he’s thirty. Zac is kind of growing on me, but even admitting that makes me feel like a cougar.

She’s cute.
my opinion of him has done a complete 180. i first thought he was a pretty boy who would probably be a jerk in real life. but i just never could have imagined that such a gorgeous guy would be so genuinely unique in the best of ways. hes how every guy should be- and not because hes an adonis, because hes a truly intelligent, driven, real, confident guy who actually has a heart. high school musical is just the beginning of his career, i see a great future for him.
It works, I love Zac Efron!
he’s still too pretty for me. i swear he wears makeup, like mascara and bronzer, plus i wouldn’t be surprised if he spends more time on his hair than me! 😛
I prefer Zac over Rob any day. No matter how much people continue to take a piss at the HSM franchise, he does have talent. And it’s nice to know that his views are entirely mature.
That being said – can anyone else believe that Lindsay Lohan is a year older than him, and hasn’t adapted to the same mentality?
It’s bloody ridiculous.
Zac Efron rebels by not being a drunken mess and continuing with his- shall we say, ‘unique’ interpretation of masculinity.
Yes, I agree, CB…..I admire the boy. But this is easy to admit here in this anonymous venue. In the real world, when his name comes up, I mock him. Sorry, Zac Efron, but I’m over 30 and I just can’t be seen as an admirer without looking creepy….love you!!!
Valensi – I don’t really know anything about Zac’s family but maybe his parents are the reason Zac is mature and not a mess like Lindsay.
I think Lindsay and Britney’s parents have much responsability in what their daughters turned out to be.
Are you sure he’s “the guy every mother wants for her daughter” because I’ve been seeing some distinct ‘the guy every mother wants as her poolboy’ subtext around him for the longest while.
There’s a total older women who find him appealing subtext going on – as Pattinson has, though NOT in the same way.
I like him precisely because of his focus and lack of partying. He seems to be ambitious in realistic proportions and not trying to cover up his anxieties in a bad boy cool facade like a lot of actors I could mention.
He can be as “uncool” as he likes provided he stays focussed.
He and Duff seem to have sensible viewpoints for their age – they understand it’s all a fame game that doesn’t last generally. They seem to get that they’re not uniquely talented rather than guided by good fortune.
It’s the Lohans and Mileys that bug the hell out of me, although if Pattinson can’t keep his mouth shut – or at least put his brain in gear before opening it – he’s getting on that list too.
(And for the record I first became familiar with that word via SCRUBS not Aniston. I’m sure it was floating around in some form far before her use of it.)
ps – I don’t mind admitting saying I like Zac in public. I hate mocking people just to go along with the common crowd opinion. Sure, it gets you teased but it doesn’t bother me because it doesn’t really change how I feel about it – though you do get to see the people who tease you in a different way.
