Do you think Queen Elizabeth has strong feelings for or against America and Americans? I do not. I think the Queen has lived many years and she likes some parts of America and doesn’t care for other parts, just as she probably enjoys meeting some Americans and not others. She’s never seemed all that worked up about treating America like Britain’s hillbilly cousin (which some British people tend to do), nor has she ever seemed overly fond of America. America is just THERE for the Queen and she accepts our presence in her world. Well, one American decided to write to the Queen and ask her to take us, her majesty’s loyal subjects, back into her loving embrace. The Queen was all “Nah.”
An American who asked the Queen to put Donald Trump out of the running and take back control of the US has had his request politely declined. A Reddit user wrote that an “Anglophile friend” resorted to writing to Buckingham Palace because he was “frustrated with the current field of presidential candidates (particularly on the GOP side)”.
The letter, posted by user no-soy-de-escocia, was addressed to both the Queen and Prime Minister.
“On behalf of the American people, I urgently implore you to take us back,” it read. “Clearly, the options we have to lead us aren’t up to par. Again, please, I beg of you, make the United States of America a colony of the United Kingdom. “For further reasons as to why this is such a necessary, albeit drastic, step, I refer to tonight’s Republican Party Primary debate. Thank you. God save The Queen.”
The letter was sent on 16 September, when 11 front-runners for the Republican Presidential nomination had gone head-to-head for three hours on CNN. Sharing a photo of the reply, which appeared to be on official royal letter paper, the person wrote that they were shocked his friend was dignified with a response.
The Queen’s deputy correspondence coordinator wrote: “I have been asked to write in response to your recent letter to The Queen in which you express your views about the American government. Whilst your views have been noted, you will appreciate, I am sure, that there can be no question of The Queen intervening in the affairs of another Sovereign state.”
A photo of the letter, shared on Imgur by bardiak on Thursday, has been viewed more than two million times and the Reddit post has garnered more than 3,000 comments, which were mainly tongue in cheek.
Such uneducated Yanks! The Queen is not the head of government, she is the head of state. She is apolitical by design. Don’t write to the Queen to bitch about American politics, is what I’m saying. Plus, it’s not like Prime Minister David Cameron has it all figured out! I’m not saying he’s like Donald Trump or anything (for all of his faults, Cameron is 100 times better than Trump), but I am saying that every country has their own crappy politicians! Don’t go begging the Queen to take us back. I don’t want my tax dollars paying for the Duchess of Wiglets!!!

Does she only wear English designs? Same as the rest of the royal family…is this what is required does Flotus also only where US designers?
The Queen only wears Angela Kelly, her personal designer. Doesn’t get more English than that.
The rest of the Royal Family are encouraged to wear English designs especially during public outings and duties.
I think Flotus is pretty good at doing the same thing, sticking to American designs and stores like J Crew.
Tangerine is NOT the Queen’s color. She looks very pale…and gaunt in that shade. I wish she’d stop wearing matchy matchy all the time…Everything always is the same…hat and coat…hat and dress…never complimentary colors…to the outfit. The Brits have LOUSEY looking shoes…You can pick them out on the sites here in the US that sell shoes made in the UK. They’re funky. Nothing like our American designers…very pilgrimesque. LOL
Her Royal Majesty doesn’t NEED to take US back…we’re perfectly happy disconnected from the mother ship. We’ve come a lot further without them…than we would have with them!
I buy all my shoes in Europe and England included. To me North America has no shoes (nor does it have designers). As about the Queen, at this age and at events where she has to stand and walk even if only for half an hour, she deserves every praise for wearing court shoes.! If we ever reach this age, I doubt many will wear any kind of heal at all.

Reminds me of that crazy humor that burst out in the 2000 election: there was this hysterical letter from the Queen/British government addressed to the US, stating that since we had failed to choose a new President, we had defaulted back into colonial status. I’m a huge fan of the BRF and especially HM and I heard about this from a documentary years and years ago. I wrote her a letter for her Golden Jubilee and got a lovely thank you note from one of her ladies in waiting I guess. At least they what the documentary called them.

It was clearly a jokey/frustrated letter so how does a secretary respond to that – in similarly jokey manner? “Oh righto, we’ll be over on Friday for the keys!”

It was a sincere question. Did you ever see the Obamas embrace HM in such a manner at a later time? I didn’t know. I don’t know.
Though it probably didn’t happen again after 2011 when Obama insisted on finishing a speech and a toast to HM during the playing of God Save the Queen.
And, I’m sincere, too. And, because you couldn’t resist mentioning another Obama “fault”, my point has been proven and I have nothing else to say on the matter.
Like the gasp heard round the world when President Obama put his hand on her elbow to help the elderly queen down the stairs? Yes, far past time to get over it.
Of course it’s appropriate to offer help to someone, but it’s best to ask first unless you see someone already starting to slip and fall or you believe someone is in danger.
And for the record, I never felt “enraged” about it. Not at all. That’s going way too far. I just felt it was a cringe worthy moment in time given a long history of tradition and protocol. And after all, if there has never been photographic evidence of HM embracing a British PM and/or spouse, then why start with the Obamas (foreigners)? What happened to taking care of your own first?
I have sometimes had the fantasy of Canada taking over. Mounties to the rescue and all that…. At least we’d have reasonable health care. But I have been informed by Canadian friends that they don’t want us.
I propose that the normal Canadians and the normal Americans get together and form Americanada. Meanwhile we can split off Arkansas, Kansas, Alabama, Mississippi, Oklahoma… All the nutty states. We’ll all hang out and be nice together and we’ll have universal healthcare and it’ll be great.

For years, I’ve tries to place who the Queen reminds me of. Then I saw the picture of her looking right at he camera but not smiling and it hit me. She looks like my 85 year old Aunt. Maybe it just happens after a certain age?
At least we’d get national health care if we went back to being a colony. I’ve been watching with particular care in scenes of British shows and movies in which a character is sent to the hospital. No employee is following around the family asking for if the patient has insurance and none of the families are worried about how much the surgery will cost and how long before the patient is kicked out of the hospital bed for not being able to afford it. Then the nurses and other care workers come to the patient’s house and nobody is telling anybody not to because they’re too worried about the medical bill.
Also, would be nice to get ABSOs more easily. 🙂
