Tom Cruise is ‘freaking out’ about Leah Remini, ‘he’s letting CoS discredit her’

FFN_Cruise_Tom2_RM_110515_51900288

Here are some photos of Tom Cruise last week in New Orleans, filming Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, the sequel no one really wanted. Tom has been very, very quiet recently. His silence has been especially notable given the explosion of Leah Remini stories in the past month. Leah was everywhere, promoting her tell-all memoir Troublemaker, which includes many, many stories about leaving the Church of Scientology in general, and many stories about Tom Cruise specifically. While a Scientology spokesperson has been swiping at Remini on the record, Cruise has yet to say anything about Remini or anything else. But now “sources” tell Us Weekly that Cruise has been freaking out.

Leah Remini’s tell-all, Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology, has Tom Cruise, well, troubled. A source reveals in the new issue of Us Weekly that the Mission: Impossible actor, 53, is “freaking out” about the King of Queens vet’s dishy press tour for her Scientology-focused tome. In her memoir, she details bizarre anecdotes about Cruise, including the time he allegedly had a meltdown while trying to bake cookies: The action star reportedly screamed at assistants as he searched for baking ingredients — even though, according to Remini, there was a batch of prepackaged dough right in front of him.

“He thinks it’s a major betrayal,” the insider tells Us. The New York native, 45, has also been sharing tales from Cruise’s wedding to now ex-wife Katie Holmes, claiming the couple reported her to the church for inappropriate behavior during their nuptials. The Exes actress wrote that the incident led the religious group to send her to Florida for “reprogramming.”

Don’t expect Cruise to respond publicly to the reality TV personality — or to take action against her. “Leah is what the church calls a ‘suppressive person,’ so she’s evil in his mind,” says the pal. “He wipes the memory of any SP out of his life. He’s letting the Scientology people discredit her.”

The Church of Scientology has vehemently denied the claims Remini made in her book and in promotional interviews. “Sadly, bitterness and anger are common threads through Ms. Remini’s life,” the church said in a statement on its website. “Rather than take responsibility for self-inflicted problems, she is quick to blame others.”

[From Us Weekly]

Just think about that for a second. The moment someone is declared a Suppressive Person, the Scientologists are supposed to “wipe the memory of the SP” from their lives. Rather than, say, dealing with a problem head-on, or simply sitting down and discussing a problem like two adults. This religion/cult is based on the social skills of tween Mean Girls. “OMG, I can’t believe you told people the cookie dough story, I’M TOTALLY NEVER SPEAKING TO YOU AGAIN and I will just pretend you don’t exist!!” That being said, I really don’t want to know how the Scientology people/minions are going to “discredit” Remini. I have a real fear for Leah and her family. I hope they stay safe.

word on the street is she is upset that she and tom are no longer butt buddies

  2. AmyB says:

All you have to do is google info about ex-Scientologists who have spoken out, and you get a horrid picture of stalking and slandering done by the “church” trying to discredit the person who spoke out. It’s truly frightening and “Going Clear” speaks about it in great depth. Although I am sure Leah may suffer some of these same smear tactics, she is such a prominent figure, my guess is that the “church” cannot get away with the same scare tactics with someone like her. Between “Going Clear” and Remini’s book, I believe this organization’s days are numbered. I also read something about the father of leader David Miscavige (who defected from Scientology a few years ago) is penning a book. Hope someday Miscavige gets what he deserves: prison.

    • Lizzie McGuire says:

Going clear made me fear for all the ex Scientologists out there, except Katie Holmes. She was papped everywhere she had a strategy & that was to be seen constantly. My guess is that Leah is trying to pull a Katie move, wrote a book & now she’s everywhere promoting. She’ll be fine & if something happens to her or her family I’m sure everyone is going to turn against Tiny #1 & #2.

  3. Jag says:

He’s doing a sequel to Reacher? That is so not wanted.

I, too, hope she remains safe. She’s brave for speaking out like she is.

    • antipodean says:

This absolutely outrages me, Tiny Tom is NOT, NOT, NOT, and never will be my boy Jack Reacher. I was crushed when I heard Lee Childs thought he would be a good Jack. He must have been blinded by the Hollywood money.
Also, where is Shelly and Mary?

      • Ainsley says:

Yes!!!! I LOVE Jacker Reacher, have all Lee Childs novels and it killed me when I saw the casting. So wrong!!!

      • Bridget says:

I haven’t read the books but I saw some of the movie… there were some weird, misogynistic undertones. Just me?

  4. NewWester says:

Regarding Leah and her family’s safety, it would be in Tom Cruise’s best interest to make sure she stays safe and for him to remain quiet.
If anything should happen or Leah is suddenly on the blacklist in Hollywood, the fingers will all be pointed at Tom.
The more Leah talks and exposes the workings of this cult, the safer she will be

  5. Ellie66 says:

She will be ok as long as she stays in the public eye. Tom Cruise is not aging well at all he looks weird. 😬

    • Snazzy says:

Yes, she needs to use the Katie method and be seen in public and get papped a lot. Otherwise, I’d be very worried about her

    • Betsy says:

He has so many fillers it looks like terrible bloat. Or maybe he had too many muffins and it is bloat. But he’s awfully shiny.

    • anamaria says:

yeah, what’s going on with his face? it looks bloated, or like he gained a few pounds but just in his face…

  6. Jenni says:

53 year old man with mentality of 13 year old. That’s the worst.

    • Carol says:

Ha! that’s the whole cult! From Hubbard, to Miscavige, to Cruise. They are all children in men’s bodies

  7. T.Fanty says:

Completely random thought: when I saw that thumbnail pic on the CB main page, my first thought was “wow, Charlie Sheen looks really healthy right now.”

    • islandwalker says:

That’s bizarre. I thought it was Sheen as well. That can’t be a good sign for Cruise.

    • Christin says:

Lately, he looks different in each photo. And mostly not in a good way.

    • Mia4s says:

He’s getting a LOT of work done to his face and hair. At first it was subtle and worked well but clearly that isn’t going to last. It makes sense from his vanity standpoint, since all the roles he plays these days are action heroes that make more sense for men 15 years younger. He can’t get his huge salary for straight drama (and the cult needs cash!) plus with DiCaprio and Bale both into their forties Cruise simply isn’t needed for prestige pics.

  8. original kay says:

The Reacher books aren’t what they used to be anyway, so a sequel with absolutely the wrong person playing Reacher seems somehow apropos.

    • jules74 says:

I loved the early Reacher books, and was so absolutely offended when they chose Tom Cruise for the role. How am I supposed to believe he is 6’5″, 250 lbs?! Lol.

  9. Izzy says:

Does anyone in that $ciloon church actually think that their smear tactics will be believed by anyone other than their own lemmings… er, members? Right. Sure. OK.

  10. dr mantis toboggan says:

    Reacher: Round 2

  11. CORA says:

Like Leah said…what can they say about her? She admitted to being effed up…and in large part it’s due to CoS she insists, as she’s been in it most of her life. The more they rag on her character, the more she can say, ‘See, what good we’re they?’

..and regarding Tom, it wasn’t until I saw Going Clear, and then heard/read the stories of different ex-members that I began to believe Tom for all practical purposes has given up his daughter Suri. I feel bad now that I ever thought that Nicole Kidman may have been purposefully avoiding her kids since she had a new life. Its clear this whole suppressive thing is how scientoligists view those that aren’t members. So Tom is fine with Katy raising her and him seeing her – couple times a year if that, since Katy has nixed Scientology.

    That’s terrible.

    • wolfie says:

Mr. Wonderful on steroids with 4 inch lifts and ludicrous…

    • WinnieCoopersMom says:

Wow his face looks so different in the Kidman days than it does now. You can SERIOUSLY see the difference from all the filler. He used to have a jaw, and now it’s all been filled in and he’s super squinty now compared to then. Very very odd.

  12. Carol says:

I haven’t read the book, but from the excerpts I have seen Leah has been very honest about her own failings, which doesn’t leave COS a lot to work with in terms of discrediting her. They have tried the “she tried to stay,” but we already knew she struggled with leaving because it was all she knew. They can’t play “gotcha” with how she met her husband because she already said she found out he was married after she slept with him. She has said she filed reports on others, including her husband, so no surprise “isn’t she a hypocrite” revelations. I applaud her forthcoming and think that will help protect her. The more they push back, the more foolish they look to anyone other than the already die-hards.

    • Cricket says:

does anyone else think that between Katie and Leah’s exit strategies other current high profile members are watching and seeing the consequences and if they too can leave with their family, career intact?

  13. K says:

I think the best part of this is she put all her dirt in the book, she also laid out what the church does so anything they try to do is going to make the church look bad. It’s a no win for the church if they don’t trash her it’s basically saying yep it’s true and goes against their ways, if they trash it it confirms her entire book.

She freaking won. However, with all that said I hope to God she has security.

  14. Pandy says:

I finally watched the 20/20 interview last night. What a lot of nothing. Wonder if the book has any real substance to it?

    • Wentworth Miller says:

Yeah! There really wasn’t anything spectacular about the interview.

    • Naya says:

So finding out that a religion punishes a teenage girl for letting her bf caresss her chest over her clothes by putting her in indefinite boot camp was “nothing”? How about the part where you ask about a friends whereabouts and your fellow parishoner informs you that “you dont have the f^cking rank” to know the answer to that? Girl, what kind of life have you lived?

      • JoJo says:

I also love how CO$ also responded to her book by saying that it is not unusual for a church to have secrets known only by members. Um, I cannot think of one legitimate church that does. For example, my family is Greek Orthodox, a relatively small religion when compared with Catholicism or Hinduism. Yet you can find information about everything that happens in the church and all its rituals. I refused to call Scientology a religion. It’s disgusting.

    • michelleb says:

I didn’t see the 20/20 interview, but I am reading the book right now. It is by no means lacking depth. Leah explains the interworkings of the church very well for outsiders, just how damaging their practicies are on your inner psyche and how it works to manipulate you. But, it also explains how Scientology can be attractive, especially when you are young and/or vulnerable. I’ve watched Going Clear and I’ve followed Tony Ortega’s investigations into Scientology for years and I still found quite a bit of new information. It’s a page turner and I highly recommend the book.

      • Tulip Garden says:

I’ve finished the book. I really enjoyed it. Remind is forthright, flawed and honest about all of that. I do think she believed in her church and was devastated to face it for what it really was/is. I believe her life is so much better now but that painful realization and journey was necessary to get her to where she is now. More power to her!

  15. Shambles says:

Is the COS that talented in the art of intimidation that even our government can’t touch them? From what I’ve read, some of the most appalling human rights atrocities to take place in recent history have occurred in the name of this organization, and David Miscavige seems like the second coming of Adolf Hitler. This seems like an issue dire enough that our leaders should be speaking out about it, and doing something about it. I would love to hear what Barry thinks about this. So why is it that.. Say… The FBI can’t take these people down? Am I just being naive? Are they so slick and sisniter that even our government is afraid to mess with it? I’ve seen stories about takedowns of other cults, and it’s perfectly clear that this is a cult. So why are none of the powers that be doing anything about it? You would think that somebody somewhere would be disgusted enough with this cult and their maniac leader that they’d want to take him down.

    • Betti says:

CO$ are losing their power – both to influence and intimidate so its only a matter of time before they are brought down completely. I think they are building a case and letting the press and former members do the grunt work in decimating their image before striking.

You know the saying ‘Give someone enough rope….’, in this case its give CO$ enough rope which they will eventually hang themselves with – its certainly going that way.

    • LAK says:

i think after what happened with David Koresh and his Branch Davidians, and Jones town, the govt is very conservative in how they deal with cults.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0jTEzyf1yc

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HTtLHgU9tY

Also, a cult that can get the almighty IRS to back down isn’t going to be easy to take down. They have $1B reserves to pay expensive lawyers that would tie up the govt for a long time.

the only thing that can stop these cults is knowledge. thank goodness for the internet. they can’t hideand it makes it easier for their followers to find out the truth sooner rather than later and leave.

      • WinnieCoopersMom says:

Any basic google search will validate the claims of abuse. “The Hole” and other such mechanisms they use for torture should be more than enough grounds for shutting them down and sending the head execs of the group to prison. I cant believe that in 2015 that such a visible form of human slavery is able to thrive in America. It is truly baffling.

  16. Sarah01 says:

The damage this cult does is horrid. The fact you can be 7 away from your family on a ship in the middle of nowhere, used as a slave and no one bats an eyelash ( legally), is truly mindboggling.

  17. Armenthrowup says:

“This religion/cult is based on the social skills of tween Mean Girls. “OMG, I can’t believe you told people the cookie dough story, I’M TOTALLY NEVER SPEAKING TO YOU AGAIN and I will just pretend you don’t exist!!”” OMG!! Taylor Swift is TOTALLY L Ron Hubbard!! 😀 The truth is out there people, lol. What a bloody ridiculous ‘religion’ – you’re right on the money, Kaiser, they need to grow the hell up. This is what happens when control freaks ironically lose control.

    • jwoolman says:

Of course, a normal reaction to the cookie dough story would be to laugh and say, “Yeah, it was really one of those days and I was acting like an idiot. Sorry, everybody.”

  18. ruby says:

Best way to deal with a bully is to tell everyone you know what they are saying and doing. Expose them and they lose their power.

  19. aenflex says:

Think of them as a ruthless, sly, well funded corporation. Taking them down legally would be monumentous and ridiculously expensive.
I agree with another above poster – widespread knowledge and public dialogue is the chink in their armor.

  20. MD says:

Yet people will continue to pay to watch Tom Cruise movies and not challenge the IRS decision in making Scientology tax-exempt because…laziness. It’s outrageous how a government is willing to spend gazillions of tax dollars to wage a war against a foreign dictator in the name of “freedom” but is helplessly paralyzed when it comes to shutting down a dangerous cult that abuses everyone and everything under the guise of “freedom of religion”. When a group becomes so powerful that the authorities are too scared to tackle it, it’s up to the people to stand up and take back their power. “Land of the free, home of the brave”? Yeah, right. It’s time for Americans to PROVE IT by taking down this domestic threat that has been exported all around the world. Ask questions, demand accountability, write to your government reps, educate yourself and inform others, speak out, follow through and STOP FINANCIALLY ENABLING CELEBRITIES THAT SUPPORT SCIENTOLOGY. Be like Leah Remini.

  21. Jayna says:

I’ve watched a few of Leah’s interviews during the book tour. I just want to say I really adore Leah. I love her personality.

  22. Patricia says:

When I watched going clear I realized that this cult is based on the social skills of LRHubbard, a manipulative sociopath with some very serious issues, who was by almost all accounts abusive. So emotionally elusive to his wife, and physically too.
It’s very scary that these people see him as a god. If you learn anything about his life you will quickly see he was a dangerous and unwell person.
It’s like his delusion and mental illness have become contagious through this cult. The SP thing is a perfect example .

  23. kris says:

who the f gave this pathetic excuse for a religion so much power? its a cult!!

  24. msw says:

So…. if Leah has always been bitter and angry, and she has always been in the church, does that mean years of auditing DOESN’T WORK?! I’m shocked D:

  25. kri says:

    Dude, get help.

  26. iheartgossip says:

Tom has more to worry about than Leah. She didn’t tell us anything we didn’t know already. Tommy – Tom Tom; get a grip.

  27. Vulgar as says:

Those fillers are getting really creepy. Tom’s a Ho$ head because he’s an egomaniac and he can feel like a god within the hierarchy.

  28. WinnieCoopersMom says:

I wonder if that creepy smile is plastered across his plastic-filled face while he sleeps.

Someone was saying in another CB post about him that Bale’s character, Patrick Bateman, on American Psycho was based on Tom Cruise. I dont know if that’s true but I could totally see that. If you haven’t seen that movie, I highly recommend it. He is so manic, it’s almost funny. Seeing Tom as Bateman freaks me out bc of how likely it seems. *shivers*

  29. Blackbetty says:

I’m disappointed Going Clear didnt get much marketing in my country. The movie is amazing!

  30. mollie says:

Leah’s book is really well done. Raw, honest, she hides no ugliness about herself and the more I read, the more I fear for her safety. Leah, be careful.
Tom Cruise is a major, major nutjob and I commend Katie Holmes for getting away with her child and her sanity intact.

  31. Really? says:

I live near the Clearwarer, Florida headquarters of the cult known as Scientology. They have several sinister tools of control and recruitment such as : 1. Use celebrities to attract more cult followers 2. “Groom” the celebrities, brainwash them . 3. Through auditing and other shady techniques such as spying and stalking, find out all the “dirty little secrets” on the celebrities that might humiliate or ruin their careers such as those “rumors” that Tom Cruise and John Travolta are really gay, which ruins their Hollywood leading man status/image. This prevents them from leaving the cult.
