Prince Harry looked amazing in a tuxedo at the Royal Variety Performance

Prince Harry did his first-ever Royal Variety Performance on Friday. And by that I mean that for the first time ever, Harry was the “royal guest” of the Royal Variety. In years past, it’s been Prince William, Duchess Kate, the Queen or more often than not, Prince Charles and Camilla. It seems that other than some forced hand-wringing coming out of the Cambridges’ press office, Harry is still popular, in demand and perfectly fine at flying solo to big events.

The Royal Variety was hosted by Jack Whitehall, who is incredibly annoying if you’ve ever seen his stand-up. Whitehall did a lot of jokes about Harry being a party prince and how he’s the kind of friend who would shave off someone’s eyebrows if they passed out drunk. Harry also got to spend some time with One Direction, Kylie Minogue, Little Mix and more. The biggest headline seems to be that Prince Harry met Harry Styles and everyone loved it. Prince Harry asked Styles: “When was the last time you had a haircut?” Styles told reporters that he took it in stride, and that at some point, he’ll be cutting his hair for charity. Oh, and Prince Harry kissed Kylie Minogue on both cheeks and now I’m wondering if Kylie is one of the discreet “older women” that Harry spends time with on the down-low.

Oh, and Harry can really wear the hell out of tux, can’t he? And the beard is still really good. I’m truly enjoying the beard.

Prince Harry is so damn sexy!

  2. Sixer says:

The Sixlets LOVE Jack Whitehall, principally for Fresh Meat and Bad Education (and I confess, Fresh Meat makes me laugh) but as a person, he sets my teeth on edge. Plus, he’s bloody ubiquitous. Can’t get rid of him from my telly!

    • LAK says:

      Love his dad.

    • Sixer says:

Oh, when he does the reactionary old fart character? The Sixlets LOVE that, big style!

    • RocketMerry says:

Aw, I like Jackie… I thought he was great in Bad Education. He does come across a bit repetitive time after time, though, and some of his gimmicks get old very fast. Sigh. Still like him, though… :-[

    • claire says:

Aw, I like Jack. He’s a bit silly at times but he really cracks me up. I really mostly just know him from appearances on Graham Norton and panel shows. Should I skip his standup?

  3. Mop top says:

Prince Harry would look good in a paper sack…

  4. Senaber says:

    Damn son.

What’s sexiest about Harry is definitely how he handles himself in these odd situations. Having a whole concert put on in your honor and still managing to come across as likeable and grounded? Mmmmmm

  5. Dena says:

I really think he is being groomed for a larger and more public role. His activities continue look as if he is being fast-tracked like a prized intern or understudy.

    • LAK says:

      I always thought that.

Especially when he represents HM at event where

      A) William should be representing seeing as he is the heir.

      B) William isn’t otherwise occupied.

      • Cricket says:

totally agree LAK! and not sure if I’m correct but I thought I read that Harry also attended the England football friendly – after the Paris attacks – and should this have not been William’s moment being all Mr. FIFA and Beck’s BFF?

      • LAK says:

Yes. there are twitter pics of Harry at the football. the match was in aid of unicef.

    • Green Girl says:

I agree, and I am raising my eyebrows at this. Why isn’t William doing this stuff? Why is Harry every where? He’s doing a fantastic job, no complaints from me, but I am wondering what’s on the horizon for him.

      • Cricket says:

Just as Diana overshadowed Charles, Harry is overshadowing William. History repeating itself? Hopefully, the Firm sees the popularity and love Harry gets and uses it to their advantage and kicks William to the curb (if that’s possible?).

    • Liberty says:

Dena, I agree….understudy being fast-tracked. Harry is so clearly suited to the job, so clearly cares and can interact so well with people, promote causes, manage efforts like Sentibale to Invictus Games…. He mixes easily out in the world (at ease w POtUS and FLOTUS too)……..and shows willing, while William is so clearly reluctant, I think that decisions are bring made and tested.

    • Pondering thoughts says:

Perhaps Harry and Will+Kate are forced to compete against each other a bit? The Dolittle’s are told how well Harry does and that they should try harder …

I don’t think that as of yet Harry is groomed to take over for William. I don’t think they are already expecting William to resign / step back.

      • lower-case deb says:

i don’t think that Harry is groomed in a sense that the understudy is groomed to take over the main actor.

i see him as being prepared to be William’s foil, fall-guy, and carrot.

foil and fall-guy because if Charles’s plan to streamline monarchy is going to work, Harry is definitely going to bear the lion’s share of the work. Anne, the current workhorse of the family, will be even further away from this so-called slim monarch. The DoE and the Queen has a ton of charity that needs a royal. so of the duke and duchess continue to do little and can’t bridge the gap, Harry will definitely have to take up the slack.

and William is always going to be King, and he will always be given carrots (perks, etc, whatever he demands) to motivate him to work. but those non-animated carrots can only do so much; but a fully autonomous person like Harry might motivate him to work more. there’s only so much the smear bus can do especially if Harry continues to do well in public.

i don’t think William will get the stick part of the carrot-and-stick unless he causes a huge faux pas that rocks a nation.

i think Harry will continue to be the spare, and only the spare until he is old as hills.

    • Liberty says:

Pondering, thing is, and I hope LAK can discuss this, I think the Royal family is a firm, a company of sorts. A client I have who is from that world told me some years ago to equate it to a corporation with a famous therefore influential “face” but really run by a board. The board now might be looking forward, seeing William may cause the collapse of prestige or endanger the existence of the firm.

For the future job security of kith and kin, and reasons of country and history, they would want to avoid such a fate for the firm. So they would begin to prod William. They would prod Kate. They would ultimately see the students are not willing, and have quiet talks. They luckily have a willing, skilled crowd-pleasing horse in the next stall. They begin to ramp up his schedule and profile while gently setting up a respectable exit for William: family man longs to give his kids the focused upbringing he feels he lacked blah blah, Kate and he feel they wish to devote full effort to mental life and bullying causes blah blah, Charles has persuaded him to use his “natural agricultural interests, he took a course at Oxford!” to focus on the Duchy and Kate is devoted to having her own organic line and jobs for Pippa and James…gets them nicely off to the side with her mother engrossed in advising them and out of the royal way…..Harry is touted as single so has more time for duties.

…After a year or two people are used to it….by the time Charles hands off no one is surprised bpwhen busy Duchy Bill hands off to Harry, who already has the people’s heart

      • Jib says:

I don’t know…the Royal Family doesn’t seem to me to be able to self-reflect; I think they all think that Kate And Wills are doing a great job and are beloved by all. People always quote poll numbers up near 80% for their popularity. I don’t know if that is true or not, but I don’t think people see them the way many of us see them. I think the British people are coming around to seeing how lazy they are, but I don’t think they are there yet, and I really don’t think Charles and QEII think that Wills is doing a crappy job.

      • LAK says:

i certainly agree that the BRF see and run themselves as a firm hence all the dysfunction. to regular people, it’s unfathomable. and there is always a plan B for unworkable/unprofitable members of the firm. it’s a long game. the first priority is always to preserve the firm, so if members become a liability, and can’t be saved in a way that will not harm the firm, they are ruthlessly jettisoned.

regarding william, as the heir, it will be very difficult to jettison him, but your scenerio is very plausible and i can see a way that would happen. – see Camilla.

    • Betti says:

Yes – he’s being groomed for Kingship in case Normal Bill walks away. WIlly is his generations Uncle Andrew, my tin foil hat prediction is that he is going to be involved in a massive scandal that leaves no option for his to be kicked out of the line of succession – taking G&C with him. I personally don’t think he will see the throne – Harry is getting the ‘training’ JIC.

    • ladysussex says:

How can he be fast tracked unless someone (or two) dies?

      • FLORC says:

No one has to die for this in any scenario. Death is possible, but not necessary.

William has simply failed to step up to his role as it gets closer. Harry can and does. He’s prepared to carry the dutiful image, his brothers slack, take over role of heir, or whatever else. He’s a prepared spare in every sense. If anything is happening behind the scenes it’s not yet apparent IMO.

      • LAK says:

we haven’t required the death of heirs in order to remove them from the line of succession for centuries – see the Stuarts, Edward 8 aka David. removed or abdicated and went on to long life without the burden of the throne.

  6. Lucy says:

Kylie and Prince Harry? I approve!!!

  7. Seraphina says:

I agree with Senabar. And it’s his persona and charisma that add to it. Never would I have thought Harry would get all his mom’s charisma and be the handsom one of the two. Goes to show how wrong one can be.

Hot, hot, hot. You go PH. Show the others how it’s done.

And if it’s true about Kylie, you go girl!!!!

  8. Size Does Matter says:

That is a beard of perfection.

  9. kri says:

Oh my! the Ginger Prince of Hot strikes again! Thanks for making me smile, your royal Studness.

  10. Bucketbot13 says:

    Gingermufffffin!!!!
    Oooh!
    Hot Gingermuffin.
    Hot gingermuffin making hot faces.

  11. Nancy says:

He’s definitely the better looking brother and seems like a lot more fun too. But one must be a fan of the ginge……the arms with the red freckles and red hair on top…..and the white skin. Sorry Harry, some ladies just like tall dark and handsome, but looking up thread, you have a myriad of admirers!

    • Vylette says:

He isn’t good looking in a conventional way. But look at his eyes! Oh they can sure melt a woman. I was a PW fan before, but in recent times I am warming up to Prince hot ginge!! Naw scratch that, I am hot for him. 😉

      Edited for typos

    • Cricket says:

I can’t honestly say when looking at William that tall, dark and handsome ever comes to mind. I know ginger is an acquired taste but most of Harry’s appeal lies in his character and personality and like his mom, the ability to just connect with people. Something William will never have.

  12. Freebunny says:

He is too red-ish for me.

  13. swack says:

LOVE the beard! He is the better looking one!

  14. Harryg says:

    He’s great!

  15. The Original Mia says:

He looks good in that tux. I really do believe he’s been getting his suits done by Charles’ tailor. Which is just further proof to me that he’s literally being groomed for a bigger role in the monarchy.

    • Pondering thoughts says:

Will and Kate don’t deliver. So Harry does probably have to help them keep up the popularity of the monarchy and he is groomed for that.

  16. Jay says:

Harry would make a much better king than wills. I mean, it’s primarily a figurehead job and harry is a far more likeable character, plus obviously more comfortable in the public eye.

  17. Guest says:

How can anyone say that whitehall is annoying? I love the guy. I crack up whenever I see him.

  18. brincalhona says:

Here’s to King Henry IX. The spare replacing elder brother (William) Arthur who’s married to a Catherine. How many wives will this one end up having?

    • LAK says:

      HA!!

i was thinking about this the other day.

Henry 8 was a beloved prince and King until much later in life. was happily married to Catherine for some 20yrs before he met anne and became a tyrant.

  19. Caz says:

I continue to be shocked at how useless and boring William and Kate are and can’t imagine Charles or William having the skills to be functioning monarchs.

Australia’s connections to the Commonwealth will falter with the passing of HRM. It will be a collective “um….no” when the next in line get crowned. Our genuine respect, admiration and liking for the Queen does not extend to Charles and William.

William, Kate & Carole Middleton want the trappings of being king. William won’t abdicate for Harry.

  20. Reece says:

A good looking man in a well tailored suit….mmmm…Kryptonite!

  21. SoCal says:

Where are the pictures of his shoes? Was he wearing those loafers his brother favors so much? Ugh, I hope not.

  22. wow says:

As nice as it is to dream of Harry being King, people need to let that go. It’s not not going to happen. William will be King after Charles and Kate is not going anywhere, she will become Queen (Consort). People also hate the idea of Camilla becoming Queen Consort but most have grown to accept it because let’s face it they have no say so in the matter other than voting to rid themselves of a monarchy all together… which won’t happen either.

    • FLORC says:

      Wow
This is interesting in a way of the future being unwritten.
I think much could happen and grooming Harry for this role is only beneficial to all involved.
I also doubt William or Kate would willingly remove themselves from the line, but it could happen of hands are forced.
It’s a point I appreciate watching history unfold. Getting the news as it comes before rewriting occurs..,.

  23. Anare says:

Harry always seems happy and at ease in whatever situation he finds himself. A person can’t fake that. You either have it or you don’t. Charisma! He would make a much better king than William.

  24. Cc says:

He should keep the beard at all times, it’s a really good look for him.
