The Charlie Sheen HIV story is such a cluster of debauchery, and there are so many details which are both infuriating and depressing. Many people are coming out of the woodwork to either say that they knew Charlie was engaged in risky behavior, they enabled him to do this, or that they engaged in it with him without knowing that he was HIV positive. We watched Charlie go off the rails during his Tiger Blood phase in the spring of 2011, when he either contracted HIV or was drinking, drugging and screwing to distract himself from his diagnosis, depending on if you believe Charlie’s claim that he didn’t realize he had HIV until later in 2011. We assumed he was doing all these things with his “goddesses” and prostitutes behind the scenes, but it’s still shocking to hear what was really happening.
Here are some of the last stories about Sheen:
Hollywood madam claims Sheen paid more for unprotected sex: Page Six has an interview with a former NY-area madam who went on the record to state that would regularly send prostitutes to Sheen, and to his then-wife, Brooke Mueller, in LA around 2009-2010. She claims that Charlie would pay around $75k to $100k a night for hookers, that he often asked for transsexuals, and that he sometimes ordered men, although she wasn’t sure if they were for Charlie or Brooke. In Touch is reporting that Charlie thinks he contracted the virus from a transsexual, but given how many people he was having sex with, how does he know?
Sheen had sex partners sign an NDA when they came over: In Touch obtained a copy of a non-disclosure agreement which Charlie had people sign, stating that they were to keep their dealings with him confidential. It specifies that any disagreements with Charlie would go to arbitration, not court. It’s unclear how much this will protect Sheen against lawsuits. He’s paid out millions in compensation and claims that he’s done paying off people. Celebrity attorney Gloria Allred has said that she’s been contacted by women who slept with Charlie, and it’s thought that lawsuits are imminent.
Jenny McCarthy criticized Sheen for not disclosing HIV status when they worked together: Jenny McCarthy played Sheen’s girlfriend on Two and a Half Men from 2007-2011. On her Sirius radio show, she said that she had only kissed Sheen on the show and that she knows you can’t get HIV from kissing, but that he should have disclosed that information. “That would have been some valuable information. I mean, not that you can obviously get it through kissing, but still that’s a big deal.”
“Playing his love interest on the show, even back in the day, I go, ‘Ick! That’s not fair. It’s scary.’ I have sympathy for him because, you know, he’s sick and it’s awful, but man he’s going to have some major accountability with many people in his life.” Um, Ick? It’s too bad they don’t have a vaccine against HIV, because Jenny would be right on that.
Sheen’s reps responded that he didn’t contract the virus until after he left Two and a Half Men. “Charlie was infected long after he left Two and a Half Men and long after he worked with Jenny.”
Former Sheen girlfriend claims she knew he had HIV, had unprotected sex anyway: A nurse and former sex partner of Sheen’s went on Dr. Oz to claim that she’d had unprotected sex with him after learning of his HIV status. She claimed to have spoken with Charlie’s doctor, to have taken antiretroviral drugs before having sex with him, and to have made an informed choice. Perez Hilton has some quotes.
It sounds like she was paid off by Charlie to promote the idea that he was telling his sex partners about his HIV status. It’s possible he informed a few of his partners, but I doubt he did it regularly. As we heard yesterday, TMZ claims Charlie had around 200 sex partners in the past two years alone. TMZ also has an interview with a pornstar who slept with Charlie this year. She says that he used a condom with her and that she’s not mad he didn’t disclose his HIV status.
Charlie’s dad, Martin Sheen, talked about his announcement: In a conference in Naples, Florida earlier this week, Martin Sheen discussed how hard it was for Charlie to announce his diagnosis, and how he and his wife had supported Charlie prior to his big announcement.
He also talked about Charlie’s drug and alcohol issues. Martin said “It was the most difficult thing [Charlie had] ever done. I saw him Saturday night, my wife and I went to see him, to make sure he knew we were behind him, and if he wanted me to go, I would have canceled this event. He said, no, this was his and his alone.” Matin reportedly got choked up when he addressed the room to say “As a father, I dare say that if I were to ask, just a general question in this room, how many of you have children or spouses or nieces, nephews, uncles, clients, who are dealing with drugs or alcohol. I dare say that there isn’t a person in here that wouldn’t raise their hand.”
Can you imagine not only dealing with a son/daughter was was as drug addicted and disconnected from reality as Charlie, but having to hear these kind of stories in the press about them for years? Yet Martin is still trying to be there for Charlie as best as he can. That must be so difficult and heart breaking, to see your own child like that and wonder if there’s anything you could have done.
There is a Special Delicate Art to Being Strong and Wrong All the way In as Big and The Day is Long and Jenny McF*ck!ngCarthy EXCELS at that discipline ( not That Indeed Charlie Sheen doesn’t need to own up and get real about a whole bunch of Sh!t but this aint even anywhere near It)
YES!
How DARE she of all people speak of accountability.
ICK INDEED!
I know. Charlie is obviously in the wrong if he wasn’t disclosing this information to his partners, but my takeaway from this article is that Jenny McCarthy continues to be a horrible person.
Her whole statement was “ICK.” She’s basically calling for a public shunning based on HIV status, which is disgusting.
Exactly! Who all are you expected to disclose your status to then? I had thought sexual partners, but apparently also coworkers. Maybe your librarian? Your grocery store clerk? Just so they can know how gross you are. Jenny McCarthy is a terrible person.
She is an idiot for sure and her language here is stigmatising, however Charlie should have disclosed it to her, if he was infected. Their scenes werent just hugs and handshakes, there were kissy scenes. If they both have either a fresh mouth wound (say from biting your lip or even just brushing too hard) or a mouth sore then transmission can occur. Granted it isnt common but doctors advise against it. Its just one of those situations where the correct thing to do is allow the other party to make an informed choice.
I agree! Leave it to Jenny to spread more ignorance.
@Naya, no you won’t catch HIV through kissing (unless you’re freacking deep kissing someone while the both of you are bleeding, then granted, you might catch it, but actors don’t do that). MDs won’t tell seropositive people not to kiss their loved ones, and you can kiss someone who’s HIV + without fear, we’re not in 1990 anymore. Kissing on TV basically means locking lips, there’s no way to catch anything this way.
Arpeggi, thats actually incredibly ignorant. All you need is open mouth kissing (which actors DO….this isnt the 1950s Hollywood) and for both parties to have mouth wounds. I do believe Jenny has said that she had oral herpes and declared it to Charlie. All thats missing is for Charlie to have his own wound and transmissioon can occur. While it is uncommon, doctors STILL advise that there is a risk of transmission under these circumstances. This is why, a HIV positive person should always allow the other party the opportunity to make the decision of whether to proceed.
Just as an aside, one of the reactions to Charlies disclosure has been to minimise a serious condition and how its transmitted. Maybe peoples hearts are in the right place but its counter productive to spread misinformation because you think that will reduce the stigma. The public should know where the risks lie and how great each individual risk is. And infected people should know that when theres a risk present, the other party has a RIGHT to know.
Naya: nope! Getting HIV from kissing alone would be much more difficult than that. There’s no actual case report of it happening. I won’t get into the biology part of it (I’m a viro-immunologist, have worked with HIV patients and lost my dad to AIDS, I know how it works, it’s my job) but the way the virus replicates (which is not happening in a HIV+ non AIDS person) makes it extremely difficult for it to be transmitted through oral contact. If someone has a sore, I would tend to think they would delay the kissing scene, and even then, that person would need to rub the sore one the bleeding wound and a virus needs to be nearby (thus replicating in a cell) to be able to infect. I repeat, when you are HIV + and have undetectable viral load, take ypur medication, you have no circulating virus. You won’t transmit AIDS by kissing. No 1st world country MD will advise against it (except maybe Ben Carson but ya know), it’s not 1990, we know how the virus works and the drugs are effective.

She also said she is required to disclose herpes when taking a job, how is he not required to disclose something like that. She should say ick based on the fact he is a nasty man who has been around the block too many times. I wouldn’t want to have to kiss him either, especially for a job.
OOoohhh I didn’t realize that. In that case, I’m sure he does have to disclose it, but I still think she is very much in the wrong for “ick”ing on him. She is a vile woman.
If she has oral herpes, depending on the job, yes it could matter, but I don’t think that it actually happens (anyway, about 90% of adults have been exposed to HSV-1 so why would it even matter)? And keep in mind that herpes is much much easier to catch than HIV. There are absolutely no reasons why a HIV + person should have to disclose its status at work unless that person works in porn. You won’t catch HIV through kissing, you won’t catch HIV on utensils used by a HIV + person, you won’t catch HIV through a toilet seat nor any other stuff colleagues might share. You can catch HIV through blood exchange, semen (though the viral load is lower and ultimately, the virus will need to get in the blood stream and meet immune cells), maternal milk.
When it comes to health and diseases, McCarthy should just STFU
McCarthy is such a tramp and bitch as well. Of course she banged him!
“It’s too bad they don’t have a vaccine against HIV, because Jenny would be right on that.”
Burn. LOL.
YES!! That was the best burn ever.
I don’t know a whole lot about HIV testing, but doesn’t it take a couple years — sometimes — for the disease to show up in your blood test? All these people claiming negative might be jumping the gun, no?
I’ve been tested twice, and from what I recall from my discussions with the doctor, it can take at most about six months from the time of being infected to a test being able to detect the infection. I think in most people it’s less than that (around about three months).
However, if you aren’t getting tested, it can take years for symptoms that might cause a doctor to suggest a test to arise. Who knows if he was getting tested regularly.
That’s what I’m wondering – he’s claiming late 2011, but that may just be when he tested for it. Who knows how long he had it prior to being tested? He doesn’t strike me as one who keeps up with regular wellness visits, you know?
No six months is the outlier the general time for most people to show up with an infection on a blood test is 8 weeks. A doctor should have told you if it was over 8 weeks since the event that you should be checked again at 6 months from the incident just to be sure. Although, that time frame is unlikely still possible. Just so people know the HIV blood test is far more accurate than it used to be in the infancy of the disease.
Still astounds me how ignorant Jenny McCarthy can be. When you can’t get HIV from casual contact why would that be information she would need to know, even if Charlie is lying over the timeline. This is the bigger problem with Charlie’s revelation. This is feeding the ignorant hysteria and making it hard for others with the disease to cope.
@noway — yes, I know six months is the outlier — that’s why I wrote “can take” and that in most people it’s less than that. It has also been maybe five to six years since my second test, and I suspect the test has gotten even more accurate since then.
Depends on the test: A RNA test can detect HIV in 9 to 11 days after possible exposure and a standard antibody test is 2 weeks to 3 months…
From what I’ve read recently, HIV can be in the system for a decade lying dormant before symptoms emerge or detection is possible. So, for anyone on his side to be stating that he contracted the disease long after Two and Half Men, is patently absurd.
Re Jenny McCarthy, I knew she’d jump on the band wagon just to be heard because that’s who she is. I find it ridiculous that she’s worried or upset about her personal exposure to HIV playing his girlfriend on the show. Do any of us need to hear an actual diagnosis before thinking there might be some serious risk in having any type of physical contact with Charlie Sheen? I know I don’t need to know somebody with his reputation has actually been diagnosed and diagnosis made public, to fear possible consequences I might be exposing myself to. She knew he was a drug addict and a sex addict. She knew he hired prostitutes and porn actresses. She knew he did heavy drugs = needles. Feigned shock and concern coming from her is ludicrous.
You are reading from the same bogus information that McCarthy is reading. Your statement is medically incorrect. HIV does not hide the blood stream from a test. 8 weeks for most, but up to six months for a small amount of people. Symptoms may not appear generally for a few years, but for a few it could be a decade.
A test at three months is highly accurate.http://sfaf.org/hiv-info/basics/how-long-after-a-possible-exposure-should-i-be-tested-for-hiv.html
No! Maybe this is because I was in my twenties when AIDS was still a death sentence, but it shocks me when I read stuff like this. AIDS is detectable up to six months, not ten years! If you are *lucky* you may have the virus without symptoms for ten years, but the virus can be found in the blood in just a few weeks/months. I think those of us who are older had these facts drummed into our heads because a mistake could be fatal. That said, it just surprises me to see the misinformation *still* existing after all these years. And I mean no offense (truly).
Okay. I was wrong to say you can have HIV w/out it being abel to be detected. That’s wrong. I get it. But you can have the disease for years w/out showing symptoms. So, what I’m taking away from that is that Charlie had it for a long time but just didn’t get tested. They’re making it sound like he only just got it when it was detected and I don’t buy that. He doesnt’ know when he got it. Just because he started getting headaches and got tested and found out he had it, doesn’t mean that’s when he got it. He could have had it for years w/out getting tested or having symptoms.
My point was why is McCarthy acting like she’s so shocked and scared for herself? Why would anybody whose been with Charlie in any way be shocked? We didn’t all know that the lifestyle he’s been living all this time was putting him at serious risk for HIV and every other sexually transmitted disease? We need to see a medical report to know we shouldn’t have sexual contact with him? I wonder if Sheen will attack her via the media. That might be epic.
@JenniferJustice I think it is unlikely that he had HIV for a long time before he was tested. Mainly because he was being paid over 1.2 million dollars an episode for 2 1/2 men there would most likely be a health clause in his contract and he would be tested regularly, especially with his known lifestyle choices. This is standard for insurance purposes.
I also think that Charlie has good lawyers. The man has gotten out of a lot of things that should have left him in prison, i.e. drug and domestic abuse issues. His management and legal team is sticking with this he found out at the end of 2011 after he broke up with Bree and had worked with Jenny I think they can prove that with test records if needed in court or they probably wouldn’t say it. As I am sure they know either way there will be lawsuits. Also during his tiger blood rampage and sleeping with several women it seems his very high risk behavior would be a likely time to become infected. Keep in mind someone had to give it to him too. My educated guess is he became infected during his “winning” stage and Jenny needs again to stfu. You are right she should have gotten far more of an icky factor about him because of his lifestyle choices and domestic abuse allegations that were well publicized when she took the job, than the fact that he could have HIV during their kiss scene. Which even if he did there hasn’t been one documented case of someone getting HIV from kissing. It was one thing when we believed this crap at the beginning of the epidemic, but decades into it please, and she is old enough to know better and remember.
To add to what Noway said, because I seriously find some of the reactions here astounding, anyone who’s not into a monogamous relationship, anyone that has multiple partners, should be tested for STIs at least once a year, it’s just the normal thing to do, even if you are not Charlie Sheen. Even if Sheen’s brain is completely fried, even if he wasn’t contractually obliged to pass regular health checks (which I’m fairly sure he was), I’d hope the 2 functionning neurones he has would connect often enough to think about passing a test regularly. Because HIV is not the only thing to fear and most STIs will feel asymptomatic.
On average it takes up to 3 months in healthy individuals to test positive for HIV antibodies although the tests are so sensitive today (and some test for different things) that it can be detected earlier now. The longest it has taken (and this is sooo rare) is 6 months in immunocomprimized individuals.
Only Jenny McCarthy could make me feel some sympathy for Charlie in this debacle. And for that, may she be haunted by her worst nightmares.
Have a great day at work everyone!!! 🙂
This mans sex life scares me. It’s like it needs footnotes and a Works Cited page just to keep track of it. God it must be a nightmere to be in his head. I feel so bad for his kids and for Denise, this story is making me nauseous.
What also freaks me out is that a nurse wanted to have unprotected sex with him so badly, she went on antiviral drugs beforehand? I can’t understand how unprotected sex is so amazing,it’s worth dying over??? And the woman is a nurse? Stay away from me, Dumb Nurse!
He’s high as f**** in the second picture with Martin.
When isn’t Charlie high?
McCarthy is an ignoramus but glad to read she’s at least aware of the HIV transmission rates from swapping spit. (Answer: 0%, unless someone’s got open sores, but then that would be blood transmission.)
Not saying people should have been kept in the dark, but not for the reasons from which she’s sourcing her indignation.
ETA: Wow. That Page Six article is telling ALL of Brooke’s business too. Two peens in a pod.
Aw, man — I was gonna make a vaccine joke. Really, Jenny gets the prize for Special Achievement in Making Things All About Herself.
+1000
‘Sheen’s reps responded that he didn’t contract the virus until after he left Two and a Half Men. “Charlie was infected long after he left Two and a Half Men and long after he worked with Jenny.”’ I’m confused by this. If he was still on 2 1/2 Men in 2011 and was diagnosed with HIV in 2011 then he had to have contracted the disease before then. Think maybe they should have stated he wasn’t DIAGNOSED until after he left.
it’s my understanding that the symptoms he was experiencing that led him to go to a doctor are the symptoms you get during the acute phase of HIV and therefore his diagnosis came close to the time he was infected? i’m not sure how long the acute phase lasts (i thought he left 2 & 1/2 men early 2011 and was diagnosed late 2011–could be wrong there though). either way, i’d be amazed if he could pinpoint when (and how) he was infected given his lifestyle.
The timeline is all over the place. And his reps have been giving bizarre statements and acting like infection happens at the same time as diagnosis, and it does not work that way. They have been vague about exactly when he was diagnosed because they know there will be more lawsuits.
Exactly! And considering that he could’ve contracted it 10 years prior to being diagnosed, they really can’t say for sure anything regarding the timeline prior to his diagnosis.
As for Jenny, I’m on her side with this. She has every right to be upset that she wasn’t told about his HIV status if he knew back then. HIV is still a life or death condition, even though the people who can afford the expensive drugs can live long lives now – if the treatment works for them.
What disgusts me most is that Charlie certainly can afford medical insurance, so that means that his doctor wasn’t doing complete STI/STD testing each year for his physical or once a year – assuming that Charlie went in for physicals or regular care. I think that sexually transmitted disease and infection testing should be a mandatory part of a physical, no matter what, due to the fact that not knowing one’s status can lead to spreading bad things to others. It shouldn’t have come to “headaches” for Charlie to find out his status; he may have been infected long before his diagnosis.
Why should Charlie have to disclose his status to his coworkers? Would you expect to have to do that? As Jenny said, you can’t contract it from kissing.
I understand where Jenny is coming from, but at the end of the day, a person with HIV only have a duty to disclose to people they actually pose a risk to. As Jenny herself points out, the risk of HIV transmission from a kiss is zero unless one of the parties has open wounds inside their mouth. If that is the case, she may be right to be upset. But overall, I can’t side with her. HIV positive people deal with all kinds of stigma. I was part of law clinic in which a client was fired from her job as a secretary because her boss feared she would transmit HIV by licking his envelopes. That’s unfounded fear. If Sheen had open mouth wounds when he kissed her, that’s one thing. But if that’s the case, why not say so? Say, “He had open sores when he kissed me, which placed me at risk.” Right now, she just sounds uninformed.
I don’t get it, when you are an actor and signed onto t.v or movies the insurance companies make you take physicals, full blood work included. This would happen propbably every 6 months for actors. HIV would be on the list of what to screen for given the high rates of drug use etc in the entertainment indutry. Jezz even my uncle in new york (I live in new zealand) had to have once a year physicals for his insurance because he was deemed high risk as a single male working within the Arts. He was a graphic designer.
It doesn’t take 10 years for the virus to be detected through a test! You’ll be able to detect viral RNA or antibodies raised against viral proteins within 3 months of the initial infection, 6 months if you are very unlucky. There are even test that you can take 24hrs post-exposure but you’ll have to get re-tested 3 months later for confirmation. Testing is very, very accurate nowadays.
The 10 years thing is the time it takes, on average and without any treatment, for the virus to reactivate, actively proliferate and kill the CD4+ T cells by doing so: this is AIDS. Someone with AIDS (which is very rare now in developed countries, people will stay seropositive thanks to the drugs) has likely very few months left to live. As the virus is killing the immune system, the body becomes more and more prone to infections, latent infections (varicella, shingles, etc.) will be reactivated and eventually the person will die from an infectious disease the body won’t be able to fight. Some people will go from HIV + to AIDS within a few months, others might have stayed seropositive all their life even without medication, it varies a lot. But the virus can be detected 3 to 6 months after the infection.
Yes, their timeline & statements are confusing. I agree the correct statement is likely that he wasn’t diagnosed until 2011, when severe symptoms led him to seek help. And unless he previously was getting tested every 3 – 6 months….then they really can’t say he was clean before 2011 either.
His doctor of five years says he was regularly tested and tested negative several times. So he had to be tested more than once a year to have several test come back negative.
Thanks Collette. I was wondering if he was tested regularly, or just finally went in and discovered it.
Wasn’t that “doctor” from a reality show though? I definitely don’t trust anything that either of them (Charlie or “the doctor”) alleged during that Today interview. Not one bit.
Why on earth would we believe anything Charlie Sheen or his representatives say anyhow?
Sheen’s always been generous with the hookers, evidently. I remember years ago there was an actual interview in some little LA mag with a well known madame (forget her name) who said her favorite clients were Sheen and Clooney because they were both really big tippers…I thought it was funny at the time because they both had the same agent, Stan, who was always around for photo ops…
Of course Jenny injects herself in this.
I’m speaking as a parent here. It would agonizing to me to see my child struggle and to do so it such a public way. There’s a time when you put your hands in the air and resolve the fact that they’re an adult. But does that mean you don’t care any less? No it doesn’t.
Leave it to Jenny McCarthy to make it all about her.
Pretty much what I was thinking
She jumping on the bandwagon to bring ratings to that God awful satellite show she has.
Right? Why should he tell her he’s HIV positive if she isn’t at risk? Such an idiot.
Rich coming from a woman who has led to an increase in disease in children due to her publicly decrying vaccines. They sound like they should date.
75k or 100k for hookers – per night. Those hookers took money away, not only from Charlie but from his children. Would anyone please think about the children!
The more I read about this, and I’m using this term loosely, human being, the sicker I feel. Where were their boys while their parents were having drug fuel orgies with prostitues? All the while, his treatment of Denise and fighting her about support, kicking her and their children out of their home. Her raising his boys and still bashing her publicly. I truly can’t come up with a word that describes him. Disgusting, morally corrupt, repugnant all seem way to light to fit. And I really don’t feel bad for him for contracting this disease. He brought it on himself and then potentionally to many others. I feel for Denise and all his children.
Jenny’s infected the world with her presence. Go away botoxed heathen.
Charlie may be an adult but theres no doubt that Martin messed up his childhood in a major way. Pull up Emilios and Charlies old interviews on what they were exposed to on the set of Apocalypse Now. Iirc that was Charlies first contact with hard drugs and he was just a kid. And his first time having sex was in a hotel room right next door to his dads hotel room with a prostitute paid for using his dads credit card. The story goes that Charlie stole the card, but a 14 year old pulling that move right next door to where your dad is (also probably with a hooker himself) points to serious parenting failure. I think any guilt Martin suffers is well deserved. Just as, if Charlies twins go off the rails, it will, at least partly, be on Charlie
I agree that there is probably a lot of parental guilt going on here. Sometimes parents feel so responsible for their kids issues that they end up enabling them instead of helping them. I’m not sure if Charlie received the interventions he so clearly needed. At the same time.. You can see Martin Sheen feels deep sorrow regardless of Charlie’s transgressions. I think Martin has some deep personal insight into how things fell apart for Charlie through the years.
This. Elder Sheen is always quick to support, be seen, speak on his behalf, boost him to the public, etc. but I’ve thought there’s an element of self-preservation in it, because he influenced that kid, exposed him to some pretty gross stuff and now he has to lie in the bed he made. I see it as a combination of guilt and not wanting to cross his son lest he be outed for his own deeds.
Yes you articulated that perfectly and that’s how I view Martin Sheen’s actions as well.
I seem to remember Martin Sheen pleading with a judge one time to keep Charlie Sheen in prison so he would be forced into sobriety? Maybe I’m wrong. I also agree that a child does not grow up to become something like Charlie Sheen who had a stable, loving childhood. Just doesn’t happen and I’m sure Martin Sheen does feel guilt and responsibility, as he should. But the cycle can be stopped and that will only happen if Charlie gets and accepts help. It is possible to recover from mental illness and drug/alcohol/sex addiction. But he need to get help in order to do that.
I definitely agree to the childhood theory. But I also think there’s a mental health issue here as well. It sounds to me that there’s an addictive personality here. When it comes to drugs, sex and alcohol.
Yes. Wasn’t there talk back during the initital 2011 meltdown that he was bipolar? I remember hearing about hypomania which is a symptom of Bipolar. It would explain the dillusions of granduer, lack of sleep, addictions, euphoria, irritability and creative drive. I don’t think all his talk of tiger blood, winning, etc. all the bizarre word salads even recently, ie “….saltless unsavory scum” ect. is him being high. I just think that’s the way he thinks now. He definitely thinks he’s smarter than he is – always using obscure words and odd phrasing, like he’s written a poem about it before the interview. He really likes to hear himself and wants to beleive he’s an intellectual.
The lack of accountability, lying, manipulating, the defensiveness, self-righteousness, delusions of grandeur, addictions, seeing women & people only as ‘objects’ for his purposes, the irritability…and still the ability to charm people when he wants…are also part of antisocial personality disorder. Add in those poetic word salads, where he really does love a platform – he’s just like a charming sociopath I used to know.
You remember correctly. Martin Sheen did tearfully plead with a judge to have Charlie arrested in hopes of getting him off of drugs. He was begging the judge to save his son’s life.
I think Martin is the one who turned Charlie in for violating the terms of his probation so that Charlie would have to go to jail. Then they left the courtroom holding hands. Martin may not have been the best dad during his childhood, but Charlie definitely knows he is loved.
Sorry, but I respectfully disagree with the statement that “a child does not grow up to become something like Charlie Sheen who had a stable, loving childhood.” I know too many really good families rocked by a child’s or sibling’s drug addiction to buy into that theory.
Martin Sheen had his own substance abuse problems. Leading up to a major breakdown coupled with a massive heart attack during the filming of “Apocalypse Now”. If you watch some of the behind the scenes footage of that movie, he was completely out of control.
There is no doubt that Martin’s issues did not help Charlie. But at the same time, Martin has 3 other children, who don’t appear to had anywhere near the problems Charlie has had.
All I really got from this story is I wish my dad was Martin Sheen, he is a Good Dad.
I think someone else posted this in an earlier thread: doesn’t it seem there would be grounds to get this train wreck hospitalized or on a psychiatric hold?? He is a walking time bomb; not only is he still admitting to using (he did in the Today interview), he now has a serious medical condition that he could infect others with. I mean if Sheen’s behaviors are not the definition of self-destructive, I don’t know what is. Britney Spears and Amanda Bynes’ behaviors pale in comparison to this debacle. If I was Martin Sheen, that is what I would be attempting to do. I still cannot feel sympathy for Charlie (I really could though if he would do something to change his life), but my heart bleeds for his family and his poor children. Jesus man: GET SOME HELP!
I think that Charlie has a personality disorder-most likely a combination of borderline personality disorder and narcissistic personality disorder-so not sure if psychiatric help would really help him.
It is possible to get help….he could at least try even if only for his children’s sake you know? And being completely sober would be a step in the right direction, that is for sure.
I have zero credentials to say this other than reading about it on the interwebz, but I also suspect that Charlie has some kind of personality disorder that’s of the kind not considered terribly treatable. NPD, antisocial, sociopathy, they all seem to be diagnoses that basically say the person is a pathological a-hole.
I posted on another thread about some kind of conservatorship for Charlie. He’s had phases of staying clean and who knows if he’s in one now, but he’s clearly a prime candidate for not staying clean for long, bankrupting himself, not being responsible with his treatment, etc. As many have said, it’s kind of amazing he’s still alive, that he’s not OD’ed or whatever else. I’m not sure there are many great legal options, but I don’t think Charlie’s capable of keeping himself out of various forms of serious danger, HIV-related or not. I think he needs some kind of legal guardian, but it doesn’t sound like anyone around him is thinking along those lines.
@tabasco I agree. I’m not a psychologist either but have about 15 years of personal therapy under my belt and an undergraduate degree in psychology (which I should have used to go to grad school but didn’t) and I too would concur he has some type of personality disorder, whether it be narcissistic, borderline or otherwise. Bi-polar disorder also comes to mind given his very public meltdown in 2011 where he was clearly “manic” for lack of a better word. And yes, those things are VERY difficult to treat, but it is possible. Throw in his raging drug/alcohol/sexual addictions and you get the a**hole that Charlie Sheen is now. However, getting sober for him would be a HUGE step in tackling those other problems and maybe it is the eternal optimist in me, but I like to believe that with an excellent professional therapist, change is possible. I’m afraid Charlie does not have people willing to hold him accountable for his self-destructive behaviors. But I agree he needs a major intervention.
That “nurse” should have any medical credentials revoked, but I doubt she actually has any. I saw a clip of her saying that it was ok to be unprotected because it wasn’t a one night stand, she’d known him for a few months before she slept with him.
Congrats lady, I think your idea of science may be even more cuckoo than Jenny McCarthy’s (who isn’t concerned about children getting measles, whooping cough, etc, but is apparently furious she kissed someone who has a disease you can’t get from kissing?)
Although I think she is nutso and risked being infected by someone she really only just knew, she did explain herself and her risk was minimal. She said Charlie was maintaining an undetectable viral load since he started ART treatment which means the risk of him transmitting HIV is only around 7% with unprotected sex. She also said she was taking Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis which reduces the risk to a very minor chance of her contracting it. She did say it was against his doctors advice because if they used a condom, then there would be no risk at all.
Medication if used all the time and as long as the person with HIV has an undetectable viral load can even have babies. Things have come a long way and although not quite there yet, many people do live a normal life.
Jeez this nurse chick was really ultra desp to sleep with charlie. It must have been love.
Oh yeah, I could understand if they were together for years and they wanted a baby, but who the hell would go through with all of this, plus the risk (even a small one) for the sake of someone she only knew for a few months
I also read about another of the women who wanted to sue him. She was saying she slept with him as part of a drug filled unprotected orgy and knew he had unprotected sex with about 90 women. She was saying he put her at risk. Honey, you were at risk anyway if you take part in this kind of thing. How could you not think you weren’t going to contract something?
She certainly didn’t look like or present herself like any “nurse” I’ve ever seen. I don’t trust anything that comes from Charlie or his supporters, so I wouldn’t be surprised if she was an actress who was paid to push this story.
That woman who was on Dr. Oz scares me. She “made an informed choice” to have unprotected sex with him? Honey, please.
Like I’ve said before, I teach sex ed and I do have a close friend with HIV. Here’s how I feel after talking to him: This is BS. The vast majority of people with HIV are decent and ethical. Most of them would never even DREAM of risking infecting another person. My friend is married with a wife, and I asked him what he would do if she asked for unprotected sex. His answer was “I’d refuse. I know what it’s like to live with HIV, and I will never risk passing that along to her based on a whim.”
So my question is – WHY did Charlie even consent to unprotected sex with her at all? Would he suffer that much by wrapping it up every single time? What BS is this? An “informed choice?” Why was she even permitted to make such a choice in the first place? Why didn’t Charlie have some standards and say, “No, I’m using protection because I care about you and don’t want to run even a tiny risk of passing this on.” The more this goes on, any shreds of good will I had for Charlie are drying up.
The answer to that is easy IMO – he hates women! He calls the prostitutes and porn stars he hired and sought out “unsavory scum” and “sluts” and yet he used them for his benefit. He sees women as sexual objects here for his benefit and that is all. No care for our health, feelings, well-being physically or emotionally. I think he actually enjoyed knowing he was putting their health at risk whether they knew it or not – it was power trip. I really don’t feel bad for him. I feel for his children and Denise. But him? No. The world will be a better SAFER place when he’s not here to take, take, take, use, abuse, manipulate, control, hate and harm. His recent outing himself got us talking about HIV and we become more educated, but he only told on himself becuase he was done being blackmailed. He never has intentions that benefit anybody or anything other than himself. The only good that comes from his story is the public talking about HIV. His specific situation serves as a cautionary tale and I’m not even sure how to feel about that because many people who contract the virus were not leading hedonistic lives or tempting fate. To beleive him, he contracted the virus by being with bad people and that’s just not true or fair. He contracted the virus by living a high risk lifestyle, threw caution to the wind, and was incredibly irresponsible. He continued that lifestyle and knowingly risked spreading the disease. He is a vile creature, a rotten person, a horrible father, hateful husband, and more. I have no sympathy for him.
Sheen is a terrible person who wants to blame others for everything, and doesn’t care that his accusations are ridiculous. He has no respect for women nor for people in general, by trying to sell his lies as truth.
It’s clear his lifestyle contributed to why he contracted HIV. Unfortunately, there are people who contract the virus who were not living a high risk lifestyle and were not irresponsible. Or people in relationships with trusted partners, who didn’t reveal their past high risk lifestyle. And there are cheating douches who are secretly high risk & irresponsible, exposing their committed partners who have no idea.
It is frightening to realize you trusted the wrong person, and with the serious repercussions, a trip to get tested is the smartest thing we can do.
You are probably right. I always see people telling others, “If you care about your partner, use a condom to prevent exposing them.” But that’s just it. Sheen pretty clearly DOES NOT care about his partners. I really think he could care less if he infects them. He probably rationalizes it by seeing them as prostitutes or throwaways who don’t deserve his consideration, because he pays them and they know what they’re getting into. And I hope there isn’t a “Charlie Sheen love train” now simply because he has HIV.
I try to not make distinctions between people who get HIV “through no fault of their own” and high-risk people, because I never want to give any impression that HIV can be “deserved.” It can’t. But what I do want is people to own their decisions. Magic Johnson does this. He got infected through promiscuous sex with many random women, and he has never hid that, or blamed the women, or made excuses. He just owned it. He has used himself as an example of what not to do. And people can respect that. My friend contracted it through needle sharing. He has never hid this, excused it or downplayed it, and I respect him hugely for that. Sheen is making excuses left and right. He’s no role model for anybody, positive or otherwise.
@Sam
Yes but that’s assuming he’s in his right mind. This man is a drug addict, he’s high ALL THE TIME! I don’t know any addict who gives a crap about anything when they’re high.
So let’s stop expecting logic from this whole situation. There is no logic when dealing with addicts.
While I’m sure that most people with HIV are honest and ethical, I have known HIV-positive people who continued to prostitute themselves (and not all addicts, either), and one who would cut himself and threaten anyone who came near him with throwing blood on them, as well as others who didn’t warn people about uncapped, used needles in their belongings. Some people just don’t care at ALL about others. And this goes double for people with Hepatitis C.
As for Jenny McCarthy, who knows if she actually ever swapped any saliva with Charlie Sheen, but an exposure incident is terrifying.
I have seen some people sharing their “I GOT TESTED” stories and maybe it’s making me feel a little braver. I am by no means a Charlie Sheen fan and vile he may be, an HIV DIAGNOSIS can really, really mess with your head. I was diagnosed 2 years ago and even though it isn’t a death sentence anymore it was one of the loneliest moments of my entire life. The doctors and Counselors were great in reassuring me in some areas, but nothing prepares you for the Stigma associated with it. Mr. Sheen hasn’t exactly been a model citizen, but hearing some of the things that have been said since his diagnosis won’t help. Take it easy Jenny (this isn’t all about you)
Hugs!
Thanks for sharing
Thanks so much for sharing your experience and I wish you continued strength.
Many hugs.
I think Jenny is generally an idiot, but I can understand feeling a bit freaked out to learn you’ve kissed someone with HIV. It’s a super low chance and would have to involve blood transfer, but it’s not 100% impossible. I bite my lips, chew the inside of my cheek, have a turbo electric toothbrush, get blood on the floss often enough.
Truth be told, while in theory one could get HIV through deep kissing when both partners have sores, there are no case reports of anyone ever contracting HIV through kissing. You won’t catch HIV from kissing, even less so for “actor kissing”.
Also, this is Jenny McCarthy so let’s be frank: she has probably been through riskier situations in her life than kissing someone with HIV for TV.
Do you drive a car? Go swimming in the ocean? Travel? Take a bath? Pretty much all those activities have a higher risk of injury and dying than the risk of developing HIV from kissing someone. On top of they are acting kissing for a television show. Not one case has been medically proven of infection by kissing even with the open sore scenario. Whether people want to acknowledge it or not HIV has a large stigma, and unfortunately this story isn’t really helping.
I cannot stand Jenny Mcarthy. However he didn’t contract HIV long after he quit Two and a Half Men, he found out he had it in 2011, the same year he quit. He probably contracted it while he worked on the show.
Jenny has a thirst so great, living underwater wouldn’t help her. Go away, Jenny. You need to power up to fight your upcoming divorce, not worrying about Sheen.
Unless she was having sex with him in the trailer, sharing needles or drinking his blood then why on earth should he have to tell her? There is nothing going to happen in front of the camera that can transmit HIV so it’s irrelevant. Shame on her for ignorantly trying to demonise people with this disease. HIV is not contagious through touching, kissing or sharing airspace. Nobody needs to disclose personal information to people who are at no risk from them.
Her unvaccinated kid is far more dangerous to unsuspecting people. Charlie can only spread HIV to people who are reckless enough to willingly engage in unprotected sex with a guy who they know uses drugs and has slept with thousands of hookers. That’s it. And retrovirals have reduced the HIV level in his blood to where it’s now undetectable therefore currently impossible to contract from him. Unvaccinated kids are the real public health risk. Typical ignorance from her.
“And retrovirals have reduced the HIV level in his blood to where it’s now undetectable therefore currently impossible to contract from him”
…(according to him and his people) I would not trust Charlie with anything, not even a bag of trash, let alone my health. He says his levels are down, but he is still using and is an alcoholic, everyone knows what he is up to. Jenny should have used a plastic bag on her head to kiss him, and I do not refer to HIV, he is out of normal range of disgusting.
Even before now, every woman, hooker or not might have know what she was getting into, the level of risk that a rich enabled addict to drugs, alcohol and sex entails. They are suing or blackmailing him now, and he deserves it, but they went there fully knowing of the risk, unless they were absolutely naive (yeah, right).
What I find the worst is the bit of Sheen and his last wife sharing hookers, and I bet having drugs… And the twins???
Charlie may be ad addict douchebag, but Jenny McCarthy is a frigging ignorant idiot.
She sounds like a horrible person and she’s not too bright anyway. She could have said something worded in more responsible and respectful way. But I’d be angry with my co-star if I suspected he had HIV long before he disclosed it on set and I had to kiss him every day. What if you had really bad mouth sores?
Sheen makes me sick – entirely self-inflicted wounds. He could, with all his talent and advantages, have chosen to be a force for good. Instead he over-indulged himself, ruined his health (and probably that of others), and fathered children he is not fit to parent properly. God alone knows what his poor children have witnessed. I have zippo sympathy for Mr Sheen – he had choices. There are millions in this world who have the HIV virus who did not have the luxury of choosing, neither do they have the luxury of being able to afford expensive treatment.
“It sounds like she was paid off by Charlie to promote the idea that he was telling his sex partners about his HIV status.”
I saw a snippet of this interview and I totally agree with your assessment! I doubt she ever even kissed Charlie. She sounded too robotic and formal and her story wasn’t convincing. I think she was definitely paid off by Charlie for PR purposes. Dr Oz looked sooooo awkward. La-la land and Charlie Sheen encapsulates it.
Martin Sheen is a nice man – liked him ever since I read about him helping a stray dog – but I think he didn’t raise Charlie too well. Should have given him more discipline or something; might have helped. Sad story.
One commenter on another site asked if she was really a nurse, or just dressed up as one for him. My guess is the latter.
His other children turned out well though. I don’t know why Charlie is the ones with problems but I don’t think its completely fair to put all the blame on Martin Sheen.
Martin Sheen deserved a better son this guy, he’s such a good man. Charlie has just been a horrible human being for years, and after abusing people with so much enthusiasm over the years. And guessing he probably DIDN”T disclose his status with randoms because he wouldn’t have trusted that information with him, he continues to show how horrible he truly is.
Martin seems like a nice person I agree. Even his other son Emilo seems nice and has a good head. Charlie might have been nice before but I think his obsession with drugs, sex and lifestyle got the best of him.
But I can’t with how he still leads such unhealthy lifestyle despite his HIV diagnoses. Why does he still see and pay hookers and do drugs with them?
