Note by Kaiser: Here are some photos of Carrie Underwood on the red carpet at last night’s AMAs. Her sparkly, caped gown was Yas Couture by Elie Madi. Pretty, right?
American Idol alum and voice of the Sunday Night Football theme song on NBC (which always perks my boyfriend up), Carrie Underwood, chatted with E! in advance of last night’s American Music Awards performance (of her new single, “Heartbeat”, which you can see here). The 32 year-old singer, who won the award for Favorite Female Country singer, talked about life possibly not imitating art as far as romance is concerned, life as a Mom and her dream duet. Carrie, married to Nashville Predators player Mike Fisher, can write a hell of a song about revenge (“Before He Cheats”) and a song that makes this non-smoker want to light one up (Smoke Break”), but she claims writing romantic songs like “Heartbeat” is truly a challenge.
It’s a lot coming from me. I don’t do romance very well, at least not in my music. But I felt like when we were writing it, it was just so genuine and I think that’s one of my problems with love songs. It’s all like fairy tales and bubblegum and butterflies. That’s just not reality. I felt like as we were writing it, it was so conversational and this is my life. This is me and my husband just needing to be alone. It doesn’t have to be all presents and Romeo and Juliet. It can be simple and lovely.
[From E! News]
(Note by Kaiser: that line about Romeo & Juliet was Taylor Swift shade, correct?)
Carrie went on to say that she and Mike are definitely out of the “honeymoon phase” of their marriage, since their 9 month old son Isaiah has become the center of attention, with Carrie describing him as a “squirmy kid.” And, come on, nothing says romance like “poopy diapers”, right?
As for Carrie’s dream duet, anyone who saw her faithful cover of Guns ‘n’ Roses’ “Paradise City” at 2013’s CMA Music Festival would not be surprised that she’d love to share the stage with Axl Rose, admitting “people like him [who] taught me how to sing. They were so different. I look at people like him and Freddie Mercury, those people who were doing all these crazy runs. It was so different.”
Of course, since Carrie and Brad Paisley made a few jokes at the expense of Blake Shelton at the recent CMA Awards, when asked what she thought of the pairing of Blake and Gwen Stefani, Carrie (who counts Blake’s ex, Miranda Lambert, as a friend) diplomatically said, “I have not seen them together yet. You just hope everybody’s happy or will be happy.”

I like capes. Carrie Underwood is my favorite bitchy prom queen. Poop diapers scare me because I don’t own any rug rats. Hockey players are my jam. Taylor Swift mean juice gives me the grins. This story is good. Thank you.
Now that you have called her a bitchy prom queen, I like her even more. I once aspired to the THE bitchy prom queen and only got as far as Cranky Student Council Recorder with No Plans on Saturday Night.
I love capes as well and am not ashamed to say I would wear that dress everywhere, including school drop off for the kids.
You are correct about the “poopy diapers, Corey.” Whenever Mr. Rochester and I fall into a rut, we reminisce about our Poopy Diaper phase and look longingly into each others eyes for the rest of the night.
Miss Jane, I saw the cape and immediately thought of you, hahahahaha
*whispers* I bet this outfit would look great with a bonnet, nest pas?
I agree re: bitchy prom queen. Plus, my kids are currently OBSESSED with Before He Cheats, and while I technically frown on such behavior, I secretly think that song is awesome.
No, the dress and cape do not look pretty. She looks like a space pageant girl.
I generally don’t like love songs, with a few exceptions ( Why Worry by Dire Straits or Into My Arms by Nick Cave). Songs with social and political themes did it for me more, even when I was a teenager. They felt important, unlike boring love songs.
THANK YOU i honestly had to scroll up cause I was like “pretty?? did I not Just Guffaw at them sad three Bolts of shiny beddazled hose fabric that they tacked on to a Mini cause she “wanted to show her amazing legs but in a regal way too also”
lol at “sad three bolts of shiny bedazzled hose fabric”! it actually reminds me of this weird sparkly skinny scarf I used to wear all the time in high school in the late 90s.
I love Carrie Underwood. I don’t think she was intending to ‘shade’ anyone, there are plenty of songs from both men and women that portray love in unrealistic ways.
Yeah I didn’t read shade, obviously the country crowd doesn’t have a lot of love lost for Taylor but I doubt Carrie really considers her to be on the radar of folks she’d shade.
Carrie Underwood’s shade radar is enormous. And there is no doubt that T Swift is on it.
her body is INSANE, she looked beautiful
Romeo and Juliet type songs are so common that I so not think that was some Swift shade.
It’s not in Carrie’s nature to shade anyone (or at least not so far). I think Carrie looks absolutely stunning, but she could make a gunny sack dress look good. Carrie and her husband are both such caring, compassionate Christian people. That award was definitely given to the right artist.
Really? I think Carrie is a beautiful woman, and judging from her interviews a great person, but I can’t remember a single time she didin’t look like a tacky prom queen.
I think that it is awesome that Carrie knows Mike is her starter husband.
I always get the feeling she’s a mean girl under all that smiling white teeth. She no doubt works hard but she also had a relative silver platter to serve her brand of songsmithing…white, blond, skinny, Christian, country. I don’t know…she doesn’t seem to be as nice as all want her to appear. JMHO
Omg you just made me laugh tea out my nose bahahaha
Thank you!!
I don’t think she was shading Taylor Swift because it is not Carrie’s style at all…
Love her dress, although it’s veering into JLo territory. She’s a pretty girl too and always good for a snarky quote. She looks great here.
