I have this awful habit: when I get too excited about a movie, I start to get mad at myself for being such a cheeseball, and then I end up getting mad at the movie before I even see it. Like, the build-up for Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been growing for so many months now, and I can’t simply maintain the level of excitement, so I’m just pissed off right now. I’m pissed off at myself and the movie. I want to see it NOW. And since I can’t see it now, I hate everything!
Anyway, these are some photos of Lupita Nyong’o and Oscar Isaac at the Mexico City photocall for Star Wars. Lupita’s dress is Roland Mouret and her hair is spectacular. Oscar looks good too – he’s been pushed forward for promotional duties in a lot of Spanish-speaking areas, and there’s even an international teaser trailer which features Oscar speaking Spanish directly to the camera. It’s really hot. Meanwhile, Lupita gave a lengthy new interview to Refinery29, which you can read here. Some highlights:
Lupita hasn’t told anyone the Star Wars plot: “My mother wants to know… I haven’t even told my mother. I haven’t told anyone. I enjoy keeping a secret, so I’m thriving on this. I’m thriving! I love it. It’s not hard at all.”
Learning how to do motion-capture: “Motion-capture is something that I’ve had my eye on ever since seeing Andy Serkis in Lord of the Rings, and then going on to see Zoe Saldana do it, and Benedict Cumberbatch, and folks like that. It looked like an opportunity to really play as an actor, because you’re not limited by your physical circumstances. And after playing Patsey in 12 Years a Slave, which was so much about the body, here was an opportunity where I was completely relieved of that. And I liked it.”
What she thinks of the comparisons of her character, Maz, to Yoda: “I don’t. [Laughs] That’s the safest answer.”
What she thinks of her Oscar win two years later: “Well…it’s not an obvious thing. It’s very hard to tell for sure, seeing as [12 Years a Slave] was my introduction to the world, to the film industry. So I don’t have a before and an after. I just have that as my first experience, so I’d like to believe that it has afforded me choice. I feel like I can make certain choices and I can go after things that I’m passionate about and kind of see them happen. Like, Eclipsed is an example of something that I feel my winning the Oscar made possible to do. It was a role that I understudied back when I was at the Yale School of Drama, and I fell in love with the role and the play back then. Winning the Oscar, I had people asking me whether I wanted to do theater and if I did, what I wanted to do. I was able to say Eclipsed, and the Public [Theater] and the Broadway producers, they made it happen.”
She also says that she still hasn’t seen The Force Awakens, but that she’ll do with friends to the theater when it opens, and that it’s the kind of film you need to see in a group. See… now I’m mad again. Why can’t this movie be out right now?

I love everything about her look except for the shoes. They’re fugly, IMHO…I dislike see-through shoes in general.
As for the movie, I have my tickets in hand but my friend and I deliberately chose a date about 10 days after it opens. I’m hoping by that time the “uber fan” crowd will have thinned a bit. I am very excited to see it but not if it means my view being blocked by people waving lightsabers or whatnot. 😛
My friend bought me tickets to opening day for my birthday. We have reserved seating in heated recliners, and they will be bringing us our food and drink (and no one under 21 allowed)! There still might be waving light sabers, but hopefully not as many. I’m so excited!
Ohhh, that sounds awesome. I have reserved seats too but no-one is bringing me my food and drinks, lol. Enjoy it, that’s a great birthday gift!
I’m going a week after it opens for the same reason, and to a theater with those big seats so there’s not hundreds of people in there.
Now here’s a celebrity couple I would ship!
I usually hate her outfit choices but this dress looks great on her. That blue is awesome and looks so great with her skin tone. I’m so glad she stopped matching her eye shadow to her outfit.
It’s coming out soon, isn’t it? I am happily one of those people who probably won’t even see it. Maybe when it gets to Redbox. 🙂
All of the buzz and build up has made me less excited to see it. I just find that when this happens and I do see a film it was so over hyped that I am let down.
i dont see anything but oscar isaac looking directly at me
I thought the same. All I see is Oscar Isaacs. When next to him Lupita fades and gets lost. The guy has unreal level of charisma.
Oh my god me too. He looks AMAZING.
So damn hot.
She looks so lovely. She and Oscar make a good pair.
+1
She has a great body and that dress fits like a glove. Lovely color too. But yes my eyes stopped at the picture of her and Oscar Isaacs. I would totally ship them. LOL!
Thank you for morning Oscar, my day just got 1000x times better.
This is the weirdest press tour. No one has seen the movie! This wasn’t the premiere, it’s just photo call/interviews. In all the interviews the actors aren’t allowed to say anything. It’s ridiculous!
Sigh…please don’t suck.
So excited to see this film! My lovely boyfriend booked tickets for the opening weekend, but I now cant go because of work. I was so sad until I found out his Mum’s booked us tickets to see it together in Budapest over Christmas. Boldog!!
She looks fantastic minus those shoes. She needs better shoe game.
She is honestly so beautiful… its like she is glowing.
+1
I’d like to see this woman sick with flu to confirm that she is beautiful 100% of the time as I suspect.
She’s a stunning woman and that blue dress is amazing on her.
