Chris Pine ‘couldn’t be happier’ playing the damsel in distress in ‘Wonder Woman’

I think Chris Pine is so sexy. Physically, I mean. He’s just got that X-factor sexiness, although his personality is not all that great. Some days, I kind of wonder if Chris worries that he’s not the leading man and huge star he could have been. And some days, I think he’s probably pretty happy where he is – he works a lot, he has name-recognition and he’s up for a lot of roles and gets to work in diverse projects. Still, not every dude would have done what Pine did: sign on to play “the girl role” in a superhero movie. Warner Bros. has already given Wonder Woman a spinoff movie (following her debut in Batman Vs. Superman, which comes out next year), and they’ve been filming it for months. Gal Gadot is the star, obviously, as Wonder Woman. And Pine plays Captain Steve Trevor, WW’s love interest and he’s absolutely playing second-fiddle to WW. As it turns out, Chris is fine with that. He loves that he’s part of a feminist superheroine film.

Whether he’s Captain Kirk or Jack Ryan, Chris Pine is used to playing the star in action flicks. But when he got the chance to be a part of the new Wonder Woman film, Pine says he was thrilled to give the ladies a chance to shine.

“It’ll be a f—— blast,” he told Total Film. “I couldn’t be happier to be supporting Gal [Gadot] in what’s going to be the first female-driven superhero film.”

While he may be leaving out a few of Gadot’s predecessors in the female action hero world – Halle Berry in Catwoman and Jennifer Garner in Elektra, for example – Pine’s heart is definitely in the right place.

“I think in the world today we’ve had plenty enough of male-driven everything,” he added. “It’s finally time to see how wonderful the world can be with beautiful, strong intelligent women kicking some major ass.”

Pine is slated to play Steve Trevor, Wonder Woman’s main love interest, in the upcoming film. Wonder Woman and Trevor’s relationship is notable for flipping the typical “damsel in destress” cliché, where in this case, Trevor assumes the damsel role.

I could actually get into a movie where the dude is constantly getting into shenanigans and constantly in need of rescue by Wonder Woman. And Chris Pine will hopefully be a good damsel in distress! So… what are your thoughts on Chris’s “yay feminism” statement? I think his heart in the right place and if he wants to call himself a feminist ally, God bless. We need more of that. Here’s a set photo from Wonder Woman:

Also, I never got around to posting the first trailer for Star Trek Beyond, which came out last week. This looks… bad? Like, really bad. And where’s Idris Elba?

I’m a card carrying Marvel fan girl but if they have anything resembling this in the movie, DC will be right up there for me 😉

I saw that Star Ttek trailer before TFA yesterday in the cinema – the only thing that came to mind was “Wow. You can really tell J.J has barely anything to do with this clusterf*ck.”

    • Alex says:

SAME. It lost all of JJ’s touch and you can tell.
I’m down with CP’s yay feminism because like it says not a lot of men would willing play the damsel.

    • Cs says:

I disagree, JJ Abrams not directing is probably the BEST news I’ve heard coming out of this movie. I’m glad he did Star Wars and kudos to him since he’s probably going to be the director of the highest grossing movie ever in a month’s time, but I’m mostly grateful at how it got him out of the Star Trek director’s seat. Hell, this is the guy who admitted he didn’t even like Star Trek during his press rounds. Makes it seem like the first movie was a fluke, while the Into Darkness would be more of the norm for him. I’m a hell of a lot more excited for Beyond now that I know he’s not there.

      • H says:

        What C said. ^^^

JJ Abrams ruined the Trek reboots. He was never a fan of Star Trek and it showed. Now I LOVED The Force Awakens, so I’ve now forgiven him for his Trek shenanigans. He always stated he was a Star Wars fanboy.

Yeah! What Cs and H said … and said well! 🙂

Idris is in the trailer at 1:04 – he’s playing an alien.

Now this is a man I wouldn’t mind getting as a Christmas present.

Btw what’s wrong with his personality? I have only heard good stuff about him and he seems nice and intelligent in his interviews.

    • vauvert says:

Amen to that. I am curious about his personality too. He seems nice, you don’t hear about him stumbling drunk out of clubs, cursing paps, being mean on set, doing drugs, cheating on girlfriends or drowning kittens. Is this one of the vague “someone who knows someone heard…”?
I knew they would ruin ST if JJ was out. Bummer. I will still see it because Chris and Zachary and the rest of the crew are fun, but… Yeah, people will realize the difference JJ makes to a movie and it will be nice, after the flak he got for Khan and so on. I thought he did a great job. (But I am a JJ fan girl through and through, so there’s that.)

If you’re referring to Chris he was arrested last year in New Zealand for DUI. He is known for dating reality stars such as Vail Bloom and Adriana Partridge. He also dates swimsuit models. And Olivia Mumm who sexual tweets to him went public.

That being said I love Pine and think he’s a great intelligent funny guy. His father is an actor from this old TV show called Chips. Pine graduated from Berkeley I believe. He didn’t always do it for me but he is now one of my favorite Chris”s. I hope WW does well. She was my favorite female superhero.

      • aurelia says:

What the hell, his father was in CHIPS, California Highway Patrol? That gem of an early 80’s show that I lived for??? Was his dad Officer Wilcox??? I gather he wasn’t that swarthy 5 foot 5, South Amercian hunk, god, Officer Poncharello AKA Eric Estrada. Right, I’m off to google the cast of CHIPS now.

      • aurelia says:

Ruuuude, Chris Pine’s father was Sergeant Joseph on CHIPS. Gosh Robert Pine the actor was quite old in 1980. Chris must have an ancient father. Anyhoo, glad I cleared all this up.

      • Elle says:

Chris Pine’s father was only 36 when he first starred in CHiPs. Chris Pine is 35, only one year younger than his father at that time.

    • lucy2 says:

I’m the reverse of Kaiser – his personality is fine and I’ve like a number of roles he’s done, but physically he does nothing for me. I feel like I should find him attractive, but I just don’t.

    • Holmes says:

I don’t know him, obviously, so I can’t speak to his personality, but a lot of people seem to take issue with his dating habits (exclusively Z-list “models”, other than Zoe Kravitz).

  5. Christin says:

Finally discovered he’s Sgt. Getraer’s son. As a 1970s/early 80s kid, that’s how I will forever link him.

  6. kri says:

WHO is that man with Chris Pine??!?! The dark haired dude sitting on the trailer with him?? MUST KNOW!!

  7. Jessica says:

It’ll be interesting to me how they portray a male in the damsel in distress role and whether the female audience will like that or not.

I hope Wonder Women is a good movie with good characters and a fun plot, and that it does well at the box office.

The female and ‘male’ audience liked it just fine during the 1975 to 1979 run of the hit TV series “Wonder Woman,” with Lynda Carter playing the lead and Lyle Waggoner playing the damsel in distress.

Or maybe it was that blasted good Theme song they had in the opening credits … “Get us out from under, Wonder Woman!” Here’s a vid of the entire Theme song and opening credits. 🙂

I, personally, am dominant in romantic/sexual relationships and like men who are submissive, therefore I have no problem finding a submissive, “damsel in distress” male attractive. But most women like being submissive and want a man who is dominant. Therefore, I am wondering if those women will find a man who is in the submissive, “damsel in distress” role attractive.

My wondering was purely about females being attracted to the “damsel in distress” male, not about the movie as a whole. And I never mentioned the male audience.

        @Jessica …

It’s all good. I was simply sharing information. 🙂
