By now, you probably know that everything about Stella McCartney annoys the hell out of me. I almost always think her designs are awful. I almost always think her designs are unflattering. I almost always think that Stella would not have a career if her name wasn’t McCartney and/or she didn’t obviously copy other designers’ work. Nothing brings home my issues with Stella like her LA events, which she does every now and then. Stella previewed her Autumn 2016 Collection Event in Hollywood last night, and SO MANY people came out. So many, in fact, that CB and I are splitting up the photos.
Stella has her favorites, like Kate Hudson and Gwyneth Paltrow, of course. Gwyneth wore head-to-toe Stella, and you can see by the way Gwyneth poses that she’s not crazy about the dress. She’s trying to use her arms to hide the completely unnecessary and unflattering blue poofs on the hips. Stella is such a hack.
Here’s Katy Perry in a Stella-approved turban. I actually think Katy has a face for turbans, surprisingly enough. But I think the combo of floral dress + turban + fake fur makes Katy look like she was styled by a chic 80-year-old. Also: Orlando Bloom was at this event too, which means he’s really, really trying to make Katy his girlfriend.
Kate Upton in a suit… I don’t hate this. Honestly. I think if she was wearing the jacket, we would be able to see the terrible tailoring, but as-is, this is fine.
Lily Collins’s Stella look is SO FUNNY. My God.
Kate Hudson in a little black dress with a front zipper. Do you think that zipper has a purpose other than being decorative? I actually don’t hate this, but that’s because it looks like about a million other LBDs.
Emilia Clarke looks shocked that she actually got a somewhat decent dress.

Outside of JKate Hudson ( Typo WILL Stay) Lily and Emilia ACTUALLY I don’t find any of these getups too Objectionable to be honest, I actually Am liking what watery boobs girl ( Upton) is wearing quite a whole lot!
I think it’s all pretty hideous. Except the vintage-looking prints, which could be good on better-designed clothes.
Omg…disaster…all of it.
Yes they are!
Aside from Gwen’s horrid shoes, I don’t think she looks too terrible. The hip fans are super odd, but one of the better looks I would argue. Her hair looks slightly less miserable here.
Those boots, Eeek!
All I can think of when I look at Kate Hudson’s dress is that certain ladies of the night only wear dresses with zippers so you don’t have to spend 10 minutes fumbling with buttons or pulling clothes over your head, etc. Zzzzzzipppp and it’s on the floor. Given Kate’s history with men it kinda makes sense…
Am not a massive fan of her designs, she used to be good but i get the impression she’s not that interested now and would rather be a celeb. Much prefer Victoria Beckham’s designs even though I’m not skinny enough to wear them.
I actually kind of like the pink embroidered thing Lily is wearing on top, maybe with some leggings or something, but I cannot get past those ridiculous clod hopping shoes. Wow
Me, too. I think it’s actually pretty – it would look horrible on short and stumpy me, but a tall slender person could easily carry that with some leggings. Meanwhile, I am trying really hard to ignore those shoes!
…and yet, dollars to organic doughnuts that there will be at least two women in these circles who will have this conversation:
“OH MY GOD did you see those platform loafer shoes Stella just put out?”
“YES! I’m dying. I NEED to have those on my feet right now!”
“I know, Gwyneth was wearing them the other day at her latest pop-up shop”
“She ALWAYS gets the good stuff first. I need those shoes!”
I think Stella McCartney is among the worst designers out there. I don’t like anything of hers out of the things I saw people wear on the red carpet. He designs are not flattering and that is their fatal flaw.
I like Gwynnie’s blue boots. They save the look, somewhat.
ITA I have never seen anything designed by her that I thought was unique, interesting or imaginative. I think if she were not related to Paul, she would be sewing out of her basement.
The Stella line has put out some good designs. Like really good! But you can easily find those designs were ranked too much more talented designers just a few years prior. Or she’s hired some talented designers and they just put it out under her label.
Bottom line stella is not mastermind.
Question! Of you had to choose. Would you wear Kanya or Stella? You can’t avoid it either. You must choose.
I would choose Stella. At least her designs are not nude-pantyhose-sweat pants and shirts.
Agree, I have never liked anything she has done.
Oh, Lily. Just no.
What is with Kate Hudson’s and Goop’s hair. Both straight and dirty looking – not a good look for Kate H. Also, can we get over this obsession with wearing a coat as a cape. Wear a cape if you want that look. Wear the coat as a coat!
Kate Hudson looks like Betty Flint
It looks like they got most of these outfits from Ross Dress-For-Less low budget store.
Hey Jayna! Don’t be dissin on Ross, that place is fantastic 😀 Granted, you do have to spend some time sifting through some hideous stuff, but you can find some great items on a budget.
That’s Katy perry? She’s channeling her inner Laura Flynn Boyle.
My issue with that look is the cognitive dissonance of strappy sandal heels with what appears to be a day dress with a fur jacket with a crushed velvet turban that doesn’t match the dress, carrying a large, somewhat informal quilted clutch. She’s all set for like 15 different events.
Also, I just realized that Katy and daenerys are both wearing different colors of the same cat print. I would like an entire wardrobe of outfits in this print!
Yeah, all the elements don’t add up to much except crazy and frumpy.
I didn’t think Gwyneth’s dress was that bad, I thought she’d paired a plain lbd with a patterned blue clutch which would’ve been pretty nice. Then it was ruined as I carried on reading, sigh.
I thought the same thing! Hers was probably the best of the bunch, which isn’t saying much.
That’s what I thought as well. Those shoes though are beyond fug.
I like Katy Perry’s makeup…but she’s looking a wee bit bloated in the face..swollen chin or something ? Her outfit is not good. None of them are
Lily’s dress looks like an overgrown satin baseball jacket from the 70’s.
The empress has no clothes.
Stella seems so smug. Other celebrity offspring with obvious success due to nepotism (ahem, Gwyneth, Kate Hudson) do not fill me with such irritation. There is something about Stella McCartney and her hideous designs that give me a visceral reaction of “yuck.”
Good lord, Stella McCartney couldn’t design a flattering gown to save her life. It kills me that she takes all these women who try to stay stick-thin and puts them in stuff that makes them look hippy and/or pregnant. And they still go to her shows!
Kate Hudson’s s is okay but it’s so average and non-stimulating – safe. The others are flat out awful. Kate Upton’s pants are really ill-fitting, but then I’m one who thinks she has an unflattering build and a big rack does not cancel out. Goop looks ridiculous but she thinks she looks great so that’s entertaining. I especially am tickled by her blue slippers.
Does Kate Hudson ever turn down an event? I wonder how many nights a year she actually puts her kids to bed?
From the waist up, I thought Katy Perry was channeling Clark Griswold’s attic scene in Christmas Vacation.
The satin jacket looks like all she needs is some short short satin shorts and a pair of roller skates and she’s off to disco skate.
About Gwyneth’s dress: I now know where the dress I made in 8th grade Home Economics went.
OMFG. Terrible. All of it. Just awful. And they all look so unhappy too or feigning a smile. My God, you have to work hard to make Kate Hudson look boring. She can rock a burlap bag. But this black dress is boring and cheap looking, like if you saw it on a rack at Macys you’d keep moving.
