Billy Ray Cyrus: Jamie Foxx’s comments about Miley were ‘hurtful’

Jamie Foxx

Billy Ray Cyrus is obviously pretty pissed about Jamie Foxx’s crude, nasty comments about Miley. Though Jamie Foxx apologized on The Tonight Show, it doesn’t seem like Billy Ray is going to just leave it at that. Billy Ray was on Bonnie Hunt’s show when he said, regarding Jamie Foxx, “It was hurtful. There wasn’t nothing funny about it. And, quite frankly, I think if I said those things about his daughter, he might not find it so comedic.”

Jamie’s comments were so over the line, there are probably very few people who didn’t think it was a total bone-headed, horrible moment. No matter what you think of Miley (little brat, in my case), a sixteen-year-old doesn’t deserve to be mocked in such a cruel and degrading manner by an adult. That being said, Jamie’s comments were directed at Miley, not her father. US Magazine has more:

Billy Ray Cyrus says Jamie Foxx was out of line after making crude remarks at his 16-year-old daughter, Miley Cyrus.

Foxx, 41, apologized Tuesday for saying on his Sirius radio show that the Hannah Montana star needs “to get a gum transplant … make a sex tape … do some heroin.” (His other insults were too vulgar to reprint.) Foxx — who has a teenage daughter — told Jay Leno, “I didn’t mean it maliciously. You know I’m a comedian.”

But on Thursday’s Bonnie Hunt Show, Billy Ray says, “It was hurtful. There wasn’t nothing funny about it. And, quite frankly, I think if I said those things about his daughter, he might not find it so comedic.”

Foxx said he plans to call Miley and apologize: “I got a daughter too, so I completely understand.”

[From US Magazine]

It will be interesting where this goes. Will Billy Ray continue to talk about the incident? Will Miley? I’ve been surprised at Miley’s restraint, actually. She hasn’t issued any kind of statement, no “that sucks, y’all” or anything. I’m just thankful Billy Ray and Miley haven’t made this into a racial thing, because it easily could have been. Personally, I don’t think it had anything to do with race. It was just about a really talented guy who thought no one would notice if he spoke in such a crude way about a sixteen-year-old girl.

Can you imagine that this grown idiot would say something like that about an underage little girl.
This is a man with a daughter, she must be hanging her head in shame, to have such an idiot for a father.
I plan to boycott ANY movie he is in.

My question Mr Foxx is a simple one, ist that the message you give your daughter?

  2. Mis says:

Jamie is a very talented actor and I couldn’t wait to see “The Soloist”. However, it makes me wonder what kind of man he is if he even REMOTELY thinks his statements were funny. I’ve never been a big fan of Miley but I don’t think that kind of humor was appropriate for any girl/woman.

He had better be careful…country boy’s protect their family’s!

  3. CrazyLikeAfoxx says:

I don’t think there was anything comedic about his remarks. I think it shows just what kind of man he really is, and the fact that he has a teenage daughter just makes it even dumber and creepier. I’m sick of the way people think they can say anything and well I’m a comedian. Don Imus was fired from his job, and what he said doesn’t hold a candle to this.

  4. J-Lin says:

I thought his comments about Miley “Gummy” Cyrus were hilarious.

  5. Obvious says:

Wait till sh’es 18. Then we’ll all agree. But while she’s underage it was a low blow.

  6. Cyndi says:

If the roles were reversed and Billy Ray had said these things about Jamie’s daughter, Billy Ray being comedian or not, THEN the race card would have been pulled and fully played out especially by the media. Can we now turn to Michael Richards (Seinfeld’s Cosmo Kramer) and let him say “I’m a comedian” in reference to his remarks that were considered degrading? Or the other comic (older gentleman who’s name escapes me) that was in the news recently for his remarks? Probably not. Strangely, the race card never seems to be played in the reverse. And what does age have to do with it? She could very well be just as good of a girl as say Mandy Moore or Jessica Simpson. They don’t pull the Amy Winehouse or Lindsay Lohan crap. You don’t hear comments about Mandy Moore or Jessica Simpson, being seemingly good girls they just wouldn’t be funny. However, comments about Amy Winehouse or Lindsay Lohan may be amusing considering their lifestyles.

  7. Wow says:

Give me a break. Her Dad pimps her out in sexy provacutive photo-shoots, introduces her to her latest older boyfriend, makes sure she is all glamed up to look way too older on the red carpet and NOW he somehow wants to get all upset about someone having an opinion about her? Too bad.

Miley does seem like she’s on her way to a self-made sex tape. Wasn’t she the one who sent those sexy pictures of herself to one of those Jonas kids or some other ex-boyfriend? Those were the preliminaries.

She’s following in the foot steps of the get out of the car without undies set. Miley is annoying, her Dad sorta sucks, and Jamie Fox loses some respect for apologizing for that mess. Billy should prepare his apology speech for when Jamie’s predictions of Miley end up coming true.

  8. gg says:

    Wow, project much? LOL

“Miley does seem like she’s on her way to a self-made sex tape.”

wtf? Please tell me what she has done to earn this comment. Please also tell me how many other teenagers take photos of themselves and send them to their boyfriends (lots, for the unsarcastic amongst us). Then please tell me how that makes her a whore.

Comments like this make me shake my head in wonderment. You must be having a bad day, wow.

  9. Dan says:

    Y’all are a bunch of cry babies..Miley isn’t a human being… she’s a celebrity.

  10. GimmeABreak says:

I’m sorry but I think everyone has forgotten that she’s just a kid. A kid who is doing what she’s told. Jamie Foxx is an effin’ idiot who got caught up with the peer pressure from his stupid immature friends.

@CYNDI: I couldn’t agree more. It would have been an absolute sh*t storm if the races were reversed. Don Imus ring any bells?

  11. denise says:

So Miley Cyrus is finally breaking free from all the kiddie stuff. It is being reported that she is spending lots of her time in the studio with the lead singer and songwriter of the band MEAN VENUS–who goes only by the initial ‘J’. We’re told she is striving to “heavy up” her sound and is embarking in a new hard rock direction. Should be interesting!

  12. cherryblossom says:

It doesn’t matter that the comments weren’t directed towards him, it was his infamously UNDERAGE daughter the asshole was talking about. Of course he’s going to say something.
And I too am shocked and somewhat pleased over how Miley hasn’t said a word yet. Maybe she has a chance to grow up afterall.

  13. Sauronsarmy says:

So I take it nobody is ever going to say anything bad about Miley Cyrus? Or are we going to go back to talking crap once this dies down?

  14. gg says:

“And I too am shocked and somewhat pleased over how Miley hasn’t said a word yet.”

    me too. 😀

  15. Ceenitall says:

Wow, have you been to a high school prom lately? All the young girls dress up to try to look older. I don’t think Miley is doing anything any different then 16 year olds girls across the country do for school dances every weekend.

I also think Jammie should lose his job just like Don Imus did. This is just as racial a comment as his was.

  16. gg says:

Reminds me of the Russell Brand radio stink.

  17. Kerry says:

Jamie Foxx is a pathetic person that he felt the need to go all out on a 16 year old girl. He used to be funny and had some really good stand-up but I can still not for the life of me understand why people think that he is a good actor. He did an IMPRESSION of Ray Charles for Ray and even though it wasn’t a very good one the man got an oscar. And don’t even get me started on his singing “career.” Anyway….I feel really bad for Miley. I personally think that she is a bad actress and singer but it is obvious that her parents are behind her whole carrer and have forced her into it. She may think that this is what she wants but it only because she doesn’t know any better. She has been fed this idea from her family for her whole life that the only good life is a celebrity life. Can you really blame the girl for wanting it? Yes she makes mistakes but nothing different than what every other kid her age does. She isn’t even as bad as Lindsay was as a teen. Remember the 16 year old going clubbing and staying at hotels parentless to party? That is not Miley. I wish people would just let her be a teen and make mistakes just like everyone else. People really expect too much from her.

  18. Lee says:

Cyndi, shut up. Race isn’t an issue here.

  19. Brown Sugar says:

It was in bad taste but he will not lose his job cause it was on Sirus Radio and if that is the case so should Howard Stern

  20. Eileen Yover says:

I’m not a big Miley fan-but my daughter is and since all she sees is her music and her show, I have no problem with it. I can tell you, I don’t care HOW old my daughter is..be prepared for the horns if you were to ever say something like that about her. From another parent as well! Ridiculous.
Another girl told my daughter her lips were too fat and her “Blondie” shirt was stupid-and they are both 6 yrs old! I wanted to go kick her little butt-but of course I didn’t. It’s bad enough coming from your peers, but an adult?

  21. Lee says:

while race is an important issue and there really needs to be discussion about racism (on both ways), its implications, etc..

people who overplay the race card by claiming there is racism in a situation only because it involves a white and black individual.. this only serves to demean and degrade any intelligent conversations concerning race.

  22. Zoe (The Other One) says:

I think Wow has a point. It’s the same as the people who cry about Britney getting called fat. You can’t have it both ways – if you build your career on a schoolgirl outfit and a red vinyl catsuit you are going to get sh*t when you put a few pounds on. Suck it up or lose weight.

Same goes for Chipmunk Cyrus – walk about dressed like a 40 year old s1ut and you’ll get talked about and earn a name for yourself.

Cry me a river Papa Cyrus.

  23. KateNonymous says:

Foxx’s remarks sound horrible, and I hope that he apologizes.

But I do think this illustrates how we as a society sexualize young celebrities–and we’ve seen a lot of it over the last 10 years or so. “How long until she makes a sex tape?” As if that’s some rite of passage into adulthood. But we both treat it as an expected development and decry it at the same time. I can’t think of a teen girl in the past decade who hasn’t had this speculation aimed at her.

Jamie Foxx’ words aren’t the only problem here. It’s actually a much, much bigger problem.

  24. KateNonymous says:

A teen girl who is a celebrity, that is.

  25. hmm says:

I guess Jamie Foxx is being held to a standard from regular people who post on this site and others because I have seen countless remarks dissing Miley about something or other including her looks but Foxx is beyond the pale? How many people go on this site or others talking about how unattractive Demi’s children are or critiquing the looks of celeb babies? And when everyone read what Miley said about Radiohead, the boards went crazy with criticism about her, but by all means let’s act like what Jamie said is so offensive.

  26. HashBrowns says:

Jamie Foxx didn’t make the “white bitch” comment; a female dj who was in the room did. So you can’t fault him there, as it didn’t come out of his mouth.

How some of you don’t understand that he’s making jokes about the state of celebrity and the state of young celebrities is a mystery to me. Not only was he quite clearly JOKING but if you actually read into what he said, you’d quite clearly see that he obviously doesn’t want Miley Cyrus to make a sex tape or get chlamydia.

He’s saying that Miley Cyrus, being yet another white female Disney-packaged “celebrity” with barely any talent outside of entertaining tweens (Britney Spears, anybody?) trooping towards adulthood, will end up making a sex tape to “grow up” her image or get an STD like Paris Hilton because that is what makes you famous now.

Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton are “famous” because of sex tapes. Britney Spears is still famous because she sexed up her image and then showed her vag all over town and then went nuts (poor thing) and now has to be friggin supervised like a child. I don’t think I even have to say a word about Lindsay Lohan and her descent after Disney.

While I agree that he was a little over-the-top, it was still funny and I feel that some people are knee-jerk reactionists just waiting for something to get offended about.

  27. Lalala says:

I think its more than reactionary — its about a kid. I teach high school and they all send each other “sexy” pictures and have myspace pages that make me blush (and I am 25) Its part of being a teenager, exploring your sexuality and breaking out of every “role” you feel like you are supposed to fit in. If we are going to punish Miley Cyrus for it then maybe we should look into our own high schools first.

Jamie Foxx and his cohosts comments were insensitive and unkind. All 16 year olds think they are the best and the worst this world has to offer and NO kid needs a radio host discussing what is wrong with her. He and his ADULT cohosts should have shown more class in the situation. But that may be to much to ask for a Sirius radio talk show.

  28. judy says:

People who think those comments were ok are as bad as he is. What provocative photos? LOL there was nothing sexy about any of those that she has done. People see things and all they think about is sex sex sex and about a teen yet..how sick is that?? Good old Jamie? I hope some one make remarks like that about his skank kid and see how he likes it. I for one am donr..will never spend another penny to see anything that he does. He is a racist pig and a sexist pig and a pervert..probably doing his own kid ..how about that?? see if he likes these comments about his kid. Billy Ray should just invite him down south for a day or so lol

  29. J-Lin says:

Kerry – Jaime went to college on a classical music scholarship. He actually had an album in the mid 90’s and has a solid R&B fan base.

I wish the term “race card” would be eliminated from the English language. Nothing about race or discriminiation is a game.

  30. hmm says:

Judy, exactly how are his remarks racist? BTW, it is telling that you criticize him for bashing a child yet you refer to his daughter as a skank. Judy meet hypocrisy.
I’m with J-Lin about the overuse of the “race card” and it is beyond ridiculous and so overblown. Simply because he happens to be black and she is white does not make his remarks abour her teeth racist. OMG, I just realized that her teeth are white and it was totally racist in a subversive way (eye roll).

  31. Casey says:

Foxx was way out of line. Adult celebrities are fair game, but taking shots at a kid, especially the shots he took, was unforgiveable. He does owe her a huge apology.

  32. Zoe (The Other One) says:

Judy – your psychotherapist called and said you left your entire brain behind after your last visit.

You are the pervert, ‘doing his own kid?’ – wtf?!?!

  33. HashBrowns says:

@Casey: Miley Cyrus is 16 years old, she isn’t a “kid”. How much more mature/adult/grown up/less sensitive will she be in less than two years when she turns 18 and becomes an “adult”?

  34. Autumm Leaves says:

Yes Jaime needed to apologize because what he said was wrong, but when she hits 18, the gloves come off. This victimization of Miley as some delicate, hot house flower is so laughable. Spare me! The media “outrage” is hot garbage. Pure hypocrisy.

The meaning of context is lost art in the media. It is laughable that some of the “outraged” posters going off on Jaime and bringing up his own daughter. Miley is a 16 year old celebrity making money off her image as a role model & she’s a brand. Jaime’s daughter is not a celebrity, nor a brand, nor in the public eye, nor blogging, nor shacking up with her 20 year old boyfriend, with her daddy’s blessing. So spare me the “let’s protect Miley” rant. Apparently her parents aren’t doing such a great job, henceforth her antics as of late.

  35. Zoe (The Other One) says:

    @Autumn Leaves – awesome response.

  36. Casey says:

    @Hashbrowns. 18 is fair game. I’s a legal adult. 16 is not.

And it probably won’t hurt her feelings any less then, but that isn’t anywhere near the point.

The fact that he’d say those things about a 16 year old speaks for itself.

  37. j. ferber says:

Could Billy Ray look any more like a pimp?

  38. MC says:

Awww her dress is really pretty!

  39. Kelly says:

What’s “hurtful” is those highlights and that soulpatch! EWWW!

  40. davud says:

I think it is absolutely absurd that a man the stature of Jamie Foxx could belittle himself so far as to have to take shots at a young girl to get a laugh. Come on, man, if I was to come on here and say that his daughter has nappy hair, it would be racist, but his cohost can call a 16 year old a white bitch, but there is nothing racist about that at all. As was said before, if the shoe was on the other foot, BET and the NAACP would be all over that and whoever said it would be out of a job. I think it is a disgusting double standard that our country as well as EVERYONE in it should recognize

  41. davud says:

I know that I will personally not spend another dime to watch a washed up Jamie Foxx movie. I used to think he was funny, but that’s just like I used to think Kramer from Seinfeld was funny. What I don’t find funny is racism from people in the position of these celebrities. Grow up and have a little bit of dignity. Don’t say things about children that you wouldn’t want said about your own

  42. Tanya says:

You know what, if your a comedian, then pick on the adults you idiots!
This is a child, no matter what your idiot heads think, this is still a little girl! Even Perez Hilton on his site, referring to Miley as a Disney Slut on a daily basis. This poof should have to pay fines for talking about a minor like that! Leave the kids alone, it’s below the belt and absolutely disgusting, on every level! Typical yankee shit talk. Haven’t you pigs shamed yourselves enough in this world, show some fuckin’ class!

  43. Jenna says:

I found the whole ‘gum transplant’ funny. I know I remark on her and her large teeth on a very frequent basis. Just because this incident happened doesn’t make me want to stop poking fun at the girl. But I will agree that some of his other comments were harsh. But eh, no use crying over spilled milk. He said what he did and he can’t take it back.

  44. Autumm Leaves says:

🙂 thank you Zoe, the other one. Folks act like Miley’s pristine reputation has been “sullied”. I look forward to reading more of her obnoxious antics in the years to come. She’s well on her way.

  45. eternalcanadian says:

no sympathy for billy ray. he made his daughter the way she is today–now a very unacceptable role model for today’s young and impressionable girls. jamie was just calling it like it is.

  46. Sam says:

I don’t quite get the uproar over these obvious jokes – yes they were crude, but they were jokes! Miley is a celebrity – she has to take all that is thrown at her – dirty or not. It’s what happens when you sign on the dotted line for fame and stardom.

  47. Zoe (The Other One) says:

@Autumn Leaves – so right, heres to more of Chipmunk Cyrus behaving like an ignorant brat for many years to come!

  48. Autumm Leaves says:

ITA Sam! Miley is a popular and public celebrity and not a private citizen, therefore she is in the public eye and subjected to all the jokes and comments coming her way.

  49. Autumm Leaves says:

Eternalcanao & Zoe, the other one, it would be more impressive if Billy Ray showed that he was “hurt” that his 16 year old jailbait, underage cash cow, er I mean daughter shacking up with a 20 year old, taking Lolita type pics in Vanity Fair (without much fuss from him), and please. Don’t preach about being protective when you let your daughter do what she wants.

Oh yes, she’s going to give us lots of tabloid enjoyment in the years to come. Miley is obnoxiuos enough to pull it off.

  50. HashBrowns says:

@all of you saying she’s too young to made fun of by a comedian:

    Huh?

So all people under the age of 18 should be left alone? She’s a celebrity. She forces her hideous gums and tiny teeth on me every day and I’m not allowed to say anything because she’s 16 years old?

Again, 16 is NOT a child. 16 is NOT a little girl by any standards, much less a teen who has been in the entertainment industry for I don’t know how many years now.

  51. Autumm Leaves says:

ITA Hashbrown! LMAO @ hideous gums and tiny teeth. I literally laughed out loud! It’s so true.

  52. Anoneemouse says:

If that was my daughter he was talking about, I would have spoken to him with my fists. How low can you go for a laugh?

  53. Zoe (The Other One) says:

LOL@hashbrowns – forcing her hideous gums on us! Ha! Genius. We should all club together and send her some money to get something done about the state of that mouth of hers!

  54. Autumm Leaves says:

@ Anoneemous, is your daughter in a “role model” to young girls, yet shacking up with a 20 year old? Is she in the public eye? Is she doing rude and obnoxious things in the press, yet trying to get a pass because she’s “16 and a Disney star”?? GMAFB. Stop projecting. It’s not about you or your daughter.

  55. me says:

Yeah well. I have to agree, being a 16-yr-old myself, that I don’t like Miley Cyrus but if I called her a bitch or insulted her no one would care because(1)I am a MINOR and (2) I am NOT a CELEB. Celebrities- professional or not- are held at a higher standard than us regular folks because they have INFLUENCE on not just a small group of peers but the entire country. Yes, I do think what Mr.Foxx- comedian or not- did was wrong; She’s free game when she’s a legal adult, but now is simply tasteless. However, I am not his mom so I can’t exactly forbid him from doing it. This is indeed a free country, so he and his “cohorts” can share their opinion of her if they want. BUT, he should be prepared for the surge of negative critiques back from a public holding an obviously different set of morals than him.

  56. lady_jay says:

It’s sad that everybody knows that Miley is a whore except his father…. Jamie was right in what he said and should not have said sorry!

  57. Hugh says:

I have known Eric, alias-“Jamie Fox” and how he was raised. He has a great heart and was raised right. Unfortunately, he made a mistake like we all do as the mouth gets overloaded sometimes. Consequently, when one gains fame and fortune, they sometimes forget where they came from. I think he knows he made a mistake and his apology was made in correct order. If his apology was “true” and from his heart, then it will stand the test of time.

  58. Jenn says:

To me, Jamie Foxx became a great comedian turned great actor turned great disappointment. I remember the story he told about being raised on the right path of life. He shared his story with the world about how he had to play the piano at parties for snobs. I thought when hearing his story he could be proud of himself today and forget the snobs. But why has he become one of them?

  59. get real says:

I’m not in agreeing that what jamie foxx said was the most appropriate thing to say. But, he is a comedian and the last time I checked he’s considered human. Nobody can do what miley cyrus or jamie foxx does to survive in this industry. So who are we to put a label on someone as a bad person. Comedians make fun of people and situations whether you like it or not he is doing his job. Your willing to boycott someone who has disrespected a under aged girl but, your not willing to boycott real situations such better schools in america or health care. People really need to think about where we are putting are energy towards. Things that really matter. What jamie foxx said is not going to damage miley cyrus’ money or fame so GET OVER IT!!!
    !

  60. I’m starting my very own blog to share my personal pictures encounters. Are you finding this hard or easy to post regularly?
