Carrie Underwood was one of the first celebrities on the red carpet at The Grammys and she was nothing if not predictable. Carrie was in a strapless black Nicolas Jebran gown with a high slit and a bow on the side. This is some prom level fug, as Kaiser put it to me. Carrie usually goes for big gowns and this was no exception. She’s ditched the big hair, although this slicked back look isn’t much better. Giuliana Rancic was crowing that she had the same hairstyle, which has been inexplicably popular lately. Carrie had better hair on Talking Dead Sunday night. Oh and she said the necklace was a Valentine’s gift. If she wasn’t joking then damn that must have cost a fortune.
Carrie performed a mashup of Take your Time and Heartbeat with Sam Hunt (you can see a clip here). It was the second performance of the night and one of way too many slow songs. I mean the performances were incredible but I wanted more high energy numbers and dancing. Show me dancing and sets! We didn’t get a choreographed number until Kendrick Lamar performed nearly two hours in. (Yes there was Hamilton too.) Some people are comparing Carrie and Sam’s performance to Grease, but again there was no dancing so I’m not seeing it.
Zendaya was in this Dsquared2 black power suit but everyone is talking about her mullet wig. I like the choice of a suit, but given how high she’s set the fashion bar this is somewhat of a letdown from her. She towered over Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet, which makes me wonder what kind of shoes she’s wearing under there. They look like platforms. She’s a chameleon with her looks that’s for sure.
Elle King looks just like my neighbor. I think they have a similar kind of cherubic face, or maybe they’re both drunk all the time, six to one. She was wearing black lace and fringe Christian Siriano. At least this dress is one solid color but it looks too busy. Fringe and lace do not belong together. Plus there are feathers! It’s like an art project. Those shoes are all wrong too.
Tove Lo, also in black, was in a terrible lingerie look Malene Birger gown. I think I actually owned a cheap nightie cami like this at some point. On every level this is bad and it’s even got a see through skirt. Look at her styling. She has pink-orange eyeshadow and nude lips. It looks like she’s ill. Tove’s nosering is Givenchy, if it matters. This is even worse than the same one-note look Tove wore to the AMAs.

I disagree to me Carrie looks like budget prom, but with the most amazing necklace gift from her hubby! She even sang like it was high school musical.
Zendaya’s outfit is nice, but sorry can’t get over the mullet!!! Mullet just rules everything.

Tove Lo just wow no one should ever wear that eye makeup!!! I mean ever, but if you do be sure to throw in the bull nose ring. After that I can’t even see the dress. Is it just me or is she throwing a bit of a Kristen Stewart vibe here.

I agree with the slow numbers. Initially I thought well they sucked why did this performer or that performer decide to go in that direction? Later I came to the conclusion some idiot made acoustic slow songs the theme of the evening. No way was that a coincidence.
It was overall a disappointing show. I was hoping more bang. They should have had Bruno Mars perform.

Wow, that nose ring hanging down in front of her mouth was a fabulous idea. I mean, it just really adds to her face. Maybe next year, she can black out one of her teeth to go the extra mile.
That nose ring reminds me of a fancy door-knocker! And I hope she didn’t try to drink or eat anything…that thing would go into her mouth every time. Blech.
Re the performances, I kept saying that I know the Grammys are when everyone tries to prove they can really sing, but I wanted flames and dancing and bubble machines. Then, KENDRICK BROUGHT THE FIRE!!!
Zendaya’s hair and entire look was a tribute to David Bowie, and I honestly love that she’s so fearless with her style

I like it too. Not loving the hair, but love that she’s willing to try different things, and that she had no problem being fully covered in a suit, especially after reading the post with the ladies wearing spiderwebs as dresses.
I agree. I loved her hair and she’s so cute she can wear whatever make up she wants! When I saw her, I was wishing my hair could lay like that in a short, shag ‘mullet’ cut. Alas, my fine, textured curls won’t let it and I’m too old to damage my hair with too many styling tools.
Tove Lo: She rocked her eye make-up because she can. The nose ring was a bit big and the dress looked like a F21 dress. But her make-up was daring and her hair on point.
The X’s &O’s girl: Could have used some make-up help. Black is a good color for her. Don’t have much else to say.
Oh yeah, Carrie: Her skin is AH-mazing. Loved her make up. Her short hair is a nice change, but a different short style may have been better for her. I like the top of her dress. below the waist-not so much. A bit prom-like. That was a very ornate necklace from the hubby. I did adore the white dress she performed in. So beautiful and flowy.
I like Zendaya’s hair for whatever character she chose to be on this night. I also liked her red carpet interview with Ryan Seacrest.
