Gwyneth Paltrow takes 11-year-old Apple in for $200 Sonya Dakar facials

Gwyneth Paltrow posted this gorgeous mother-daughter selfie a week ago, probably around the Super Bowl. I’ve always thought Apple Martin looked so much like Gwyneth, but I think the chances are pretty good that Apple will be absolutely stunning when she grows up, and she’ll probably casually fall into modeling and acting. Maybe even rock n’ roll. Anyway, I’m posting this photo of Goop and Goop Jr. because of this amazing story in the Daily Mirror. Apparently, Gwyneth and Apple are both obsessed with $200 Sonya Dakar facials. Just what every 11-year-old needs: a $200 facial?

Gwyneth Paltrow is splashing out £140 a time on facials for her 11-year-old daughter Apple. The Iron Man star, 43, has enrolled her eldest child for treatments with Hollywood guru Sonya Dakar. The therapist, whose clients include Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, offers a range of odd remedies. Her snake venom facial is said to freeze muscles, giving the appearance of Botox without using needles. Other treatments include an apple stem cell facial – a Paltrow favourite – light-emitting diode therapy and a customized hangover facial.

Sonya said of Apple: “She loves it. She said ‘Mummy, you have to go only to Sonya.’ She’s so into health.”

A source said: “Gwyneth has seen Sonya countless times and believes prevention is better than cure. She looks better than ever and thinks it is never too early to start taking care of yourself. There is nothing invasive about the facials and Apple really enjoys them. It is simply a fun mother-daughter bonding day out and something they love doing together.”

[From The Daily Mirror]

I get that it’s a mother-daughter activity and it’s just something special that they get to do together. My go-to activities with my mom involve food and movies, although I bet she would love it if we did mother-daughter facials. So, while I think this is mostly harmless mother-daughter stuff, I also think it’s kind of crazy to give an 11-year-old kid a $200 facial. But maybe we should just shrug and say, “Ah, classic Goop.”

Apple is a gorgeous young lady! I actually see more of her father in this pic.

Now for the subject at hand… I really don’t think an 11 year old needs a facial at all, let alone one that costs this much. But again, this is Goop and she lives a completely different lifestyle than the rest of us. I don’t understand the way she lives and I know for a fact that she wouldn’t understand or relate to the way I live. I could do soooo much with that $200 right now 😩😩😩

    • Sam says:

I think she’ll look like a young Kate Moss when she grows up. It will be interesting to see if she models, acts or both

      • AlmondJoy says:

You think? I can kinda see it *scrolls back to stare at pic* But this kid has a beautiful face. I don’t find Kate Moss beautiful at all, although she does have the IT factor 🤔

      • Zwella Ingrid says:

I thought Apple resembles Kate Moss as well, at least my mind projects her into that type of future look. I always thought Kate Moss was gorgeous.

    • Little Darling says:

Agreed, side by side with Gwyneth she looks far more stunning than Goop ever was or will be. Apple got the best of both of her parents and I actually think she’s by far one of the most gorgeous offspring out there right now.

      • Locke Lamora says:

This is horrible to say about a 11y old, but I don’t really see it. She looks like a regular cute kid to me.
Gwyneth was stunning when she was young.

      • Jayna says:

I think Cindy Crawford’s daughter is stunning.

    • Tash says:

      She’s a beaut! I can’t believe she is already 11 yrs old.

    • QQ says:

I do see more of Chris on Apple… or at least more lips anyways

Edit: I realize this sounded shady towards Gwynneth’s Looks …. and I guess it was LOLOL

      • Shambles says:

Agreed, sooo much Chris in that photo. The nose, the bone structure. She has mom’s eyes though. She’s going to be a heartbreaker.

After looking for a bit, she does have that Kate Moss (like Sam said above) eyes-a-little-too-far-apart, stunningly beautiful alien thing going on. That girl is going to be a model.

And yeah, QQ, the shade is nice under here. Keeps me cool.

      • Birdix says:

I’m a tiny bit impressed goop hasn’t gotten lip injections.

      • teacakes says:

her mouth is actually fuller than either of her parents’…… throwback to a grandparent, perhaps?

Honestly the thought of discussing an eleven-year-old’s looks is even weirder than said eleven-year-old going for $$$$ skin treatments. She’s literally a child.

      • AlmondJoy says:

LOL a little bit of shade never hurt anybody. It’s actually the first thing I noticed about the pic. I have an obsession with lips so my eyes are always drawn to them.

      • Barrett says:

        *1,000

I see More of Chris Martin, she has way bigger lips than G

      • Alexis says:

LOL! Apple looks like a young, female Chris Martin clone to me. Same big wide-set eyes and full lips. (Apple’s nose also looks more rounded like Chris’s but that’s a result of Gwyneth’s nose job; her real nose looks similar to Chris’s.) It’s a very cute look for a girl, and it’s pretty clear Apple will be able to be “a thing” if she wants to be in a few years. I guess the problem is, Chris and Gwyneth don’t look that different (tall, slim-bodied people with blonde hair and blue eyes), and Chris is more distinctive looking than Gwyneth, so of course their kid will favor him. It’s a good thing though, for Apple, because back in the old Parachutes days, Chris Martin was really striking (for some reason he’s aged awfully, in contrast to similar-looking Hugh Laurie, who has aged wonderfully), and if we’re being honest, Gwyneth is not and never was particularly beautiful.

    • Kitten says:

Yeah you covered everything, Almond. The whole thing is ridiculous but, Goop you know?
Boy oh boy is Apple a beauty….

      • Trillion says:

I always am weirded out by her tiny lips, but agree with Birdix that at least she hasn’t messed w/ them. I can’t look at her without thinking about a Raggedy Ann doll.

    • nn says:

Really!? I know I shouldn’t say this about a child but she is not cute to me, she is average at best.
Forgive me father for I have sinned but damnit if some of y’all don’t need glasses lol Gwyneth is plain ugly to me, always has been. Her face looks like a paddle and her skinny/fat body has always been highly overrated. Good legs? I guess the only requirment is long legs for them to be considered good.
And don’t get me started on her bleached and fried hair and her non existing lips, phew..

      • Blackcat says:

I don’t see it either. I see two regular looking people, which if I saw them on the street, I would not give a second glance.

    • Nerdista says:

None of us plebes stand a chance. The Hunger Games are real and poor people will just get uglier.

  2. Sam says:

Apple is going to be a future Kendall/Gigi…according to Goop she’s sure her kids will be in show business and she’s encouraging it

    • nn says:

Yeah but looks aren’t really required, just height if she is going to model.
Apple’s eyes are weird and I am not surprised she is covering one of them. She has what I call “floating eyes”. One eye is headed one way and the other somewhere else, it looks like her eyes are wanting to leave her face.

      • Jag says:

It’s called a “lazy eye” and can happen when some of the muscles holding the eye are too tight or too loose.

I had surgery at age 2 to fix mine, which was looking at my nose. Now it looks away, and when I’m tired can be really out there.

I hate it, and try to do eye exercises that my eye doctor/surgeon had me do to strengthen the muscles; he had me look at the old-timey stereo viewer to try to keep the image as one, while slowly working the card closer to my nose.

I did a web search to see if I could see more pictures of Apple’s eyes, and it saddens me that people are making fun of something that she can’t help.

      • Anne tommy says:

Agree Jag, I too had operations to correct a lazy eye but not really successful, unfortunately it gets more noticeable as one gets older, as I am finding. But we manage don’t we. Don’t need snark though.

  3. Little Darling says:

My mom and I did facials and spa trips in NYC from when I was quite young…maybe not 11, but 13 I think was when I had my first one. We would go to the spa and get in fancy robes, get facials and sometimes body scrubs. It was always a highlight when my mom and I could spend that time together, and even as adults we sill enjoy a lovely spa weekend in Ojai.

  4. sigghh says:

Considering their income and lifestyle that’s fair. Also an okay price for an exotic facial. ..

  5. Artsygirl says:

I think if you’re a rich celebrity, $200 isn’t a lot of money..if you’re a regular office employee then yes, it’s ridiculous. But let’s not forget, she is a celebrity with millions of dollars..$200 is just small change for them.

    • peanut says:

Totally. My peasant-y treat for my daughter and I is that we go for “pedicures”. And by that I mean she gets to sit in the massage chair and they paint her toenails and charge me $7.

But $400 on facials is really nothing for Goop, I’d imagine.

  6. Lilix40 says:

Nah, no issues with that. My mom took me to salon mother and daughter sessions when I was around 11-12 as well, so no judgement here. It’s probably just a nice thing for them to do together.

  7. Aussie girl says:

Crazy, especially when people don’t even have a shoe……
Nah, this doesn’t bother me. I mean really it is classic goop and if they can afford than go for it.

  8. Nancy says:

Oh no a mini Goop. Egads

    • Nike says:

Sonya, like every other person attempting to secure brand loyalty, knows to target the young.

Facials for fun are fine… but does an eleven year old really need to be thinking about ‘prevention’?

  9. Boston Green Eyes says:

My god, Apple looks to be 27! Gorgeous, I know, but still looks a lot older than 11! I wonder if ma will be a little jealous as her star is fading.

    • Mia4s says:

Ma’s star faded a long time ago. If it’s not Iron Man no one cares about Goop in the slightest!

If this is about mother/daughter time…fine. But I cannot help think that this is the beginning of the grooming for “stardom”. Got to concentrate on looks and fashion! After all, mommy peaked at 26.

    • NUTBALLS says:

Yep, I see a bit of jealousy rising in GOOP. Apple is absolutely stunning and already looks model-ready at 11.

    • Hadleyb says:

27? she looks like a child. She does not like almost 30.

Sometimes this age thing is just pushed too far. This person looks SO old, yet my great grand mother still looks 30 even though she’s 90 BS.

  10. Apsutter says:

I swear to everything holy that if we are subjected to the second coming of Gwyneth(her spawn) the same way as we have been to the Smith kids I will lose my GD mind.

    • Pandy says:

Of course we will have the second goop. Easy money and connections are there. Maintains the lifestyle and brand etc etc. See Brooklyn Be kham. Famous for …, his parents.

    • annaloo. says:

Thank you, I am over celebrity nepotism. So over it.

  11. J.Mo says:

People wouldn’t question them getting manicures together, I don’t see this as being any different.

  12. suzanne says:

Well, her spending 200$ on a facial is like most people giving a kid a quarter for the gumball machine.

  13. Chelly says:

Apple favors Chris more, imo. And in that pic of Gwennie….well, i’ll just say that shes not at all as attractive as she believes she is.

  14. Josefina says:

    Apple’s 11 already?! God, I feel old.

I don’t think this is that weird. When our finances were at their best, my mom took me and my sister to spas. We didn’t spend that much and we weren’t that young, but I think we would’ve done it if we had the money. It’s not like she got fillers.

  15. AntiSocialButterfly says:

    *shrug*

  16. Sumodo1 says:

C’mon peeps! I must have spent a total of OVER $200 on two facial peels for my son the week of his Bar Mitzvah. At 13, he had major breakouts. He was going to the derm a lot! I’m not shading GOOP over this, not at all. BTW, his skin stayed perfect after those two peels, with no further work needed.

  17. platypus says:

My mom offered to take me for facials as well at around that age, when puberty hit, and the specialized treatments would generally start at about $200. Doesn’t sound too odd to me. The only party of this I’ll side-eye is that Sonya lady, she sounds like a real quack.

  18. Luciana says:

Actually I don’t think anyone in this family is pretty or beautiful. Gwyneth looks stuck in 1993

  19. Dick Move says:

Apple as a name for a human being seemed preposterous back then but now it seems almost normal.

  20. CornyBlue says:

Well they both look gorgeous in the selfie.
If you are getting $200 dollar facials your wealth should be forcibly redistributed.

  21. Dick Move says:

A facial is different from a manicure because it implies that a child’s face needs polishing up like a grown woman’s might.
    Which, Nope.

    • swak says:

My question is: Is this really good for her skin? I don’t know anything about facials and truly would like to know more.

    • kai says:

swak, my guess it isn’t. But this is Gwyneth Paltrow. She steams her vagina to “cleanse” it.

  22. Farhi says:

$200 is not really that much money for the people that rich. It is nothing.
It could be for acne treatments. Many girls have acne issues around that age.

  23. mkyarwood says:

This kind of sounds like a nice thing. The pricetag is normal for spas, and I am sure Gwyneth learned to hang out with her mom in exactly the same situation. I was carted off to the European Facial cadre when I was 12, because I had early acne. I learned a lot of weird, natural tricks, and survived acne without scarring. I’m sure that sounds snobby, but I’m pretty grateful to my parents for doing it anyway.

    • kiliki says:

It doesn’t sound snobby, mkyarwood. You sound grateful and sweet.

I wish people would understand everything balances out in life. There really is no place for jealousy because it’s only what you see on the outside. There is so much suffering on the inside. Things we will never know.

  24. Betti says:

If her kid has acne or breakouts then I can see the point but it’s bit young to start and it only serves to push the idea that your looks r more important.

  25. dilettante says:

She’s at the age where her skin will have started to change so…I don’t see anything unreasonable about getting a facial.

  26. perplexed says:

She looks like her dad to me. Where did the lips come from? Certainly not from Gwyneth.

She’s pretty enough (well, what else can I say? — she’s only 11) , but her parents are both attractive (not the most beautiful ever, but certainly not ugly), rich, and apparently have access to the best facialists (and I assume fashion designers) — I’ll be more shocked if she turns out visually unappealing. With the kind of grooming these celebrities have access to, it’s more of an anomaly when the kids turn out less good-looking, I think.

  27. JenniferJustice says:

On what planet does a mother think it’s okay to have snake venom injected into her 11 yo daughter’s face to paralyze muscles – and for what? to give the appearance of botox fillers!!!! An 11 yo wants to look like she uses botox? And Goop thinks this is great. Good God! That poor kid will be having colonics at 15, you know, because it’s healthy. As long as it’s organic, it’s healthy. NOT!!

And Goop does not look better than she ever has, take away the makeup and the lighting, like in that selfie, and she’s just a plain woman verging on homely with bad skin and fried hair.

    • Lola says:

She is having a FACIAL ie deep cleansing, moisturizer, scrubs, mud mask. Get it? Not botox. No where is botox mentioned. I think you need to re-read the article, JenniferJustice.

    • Jay says:

      ….. Facial =/= botox

  28. Ash says:

I just assumed it was something that mother/daughter can do together. $200 is a drop in the bucket for Gwyneth.

  29. Tessa says:

If goop used SPF and gave up smoking she wouldn’t need the £200 facial

  30. word says:

Well it’s all relative isn’t it? To some, even going to the movies and dinner is expensive. Goop can afford it so why not? Taking care of your skin at a young age is good. It’s not like she’s using tax payers money. At least she spends time with her kids, unlike many.

  31. kri says:

Damn. All I got was Noxema.

  32. TotallyBiased says:

Eleven seems young for having adolescent skin issues that might benefit from certain types of skin treatments.
Otherwise it seems, I don’t know, medically contraindicated to use skin-changing substances of any kind on the fragilely perfect skin of a child. Unless she’s advanced for her age, I could rationalize this much better if she was thirteen or so!

    • perplexed says:

I always thought some of that stuff only worked well on people over 35 because the skin has built up some kind of toughness that can withstand those kinds of facials. But I don’t have any in-depth knowledge.

    • Lex says:

      Huh?
Girls are going into puberty younger and younger – I was an unlucky one to start having skin issues at maybe 9 or so (genetically inclined). 11 isn’t ‘too young’ for skin problems at all!

  33. benchwarmer says:

It’s their money, I think it’s fine. It’s an experience they share together. I have to say this about Gwyneth…she’s genuine in that when she goes makeup free, she owns it and doesn’t do the faux no-makeup selfies that so many others are guilty of. And one other thing, she doesn’t have the over inflated lips, she’s got regular lips, the ones she’s born with. Everyone is so obsessed with bigger lips, I respect her for keeping her mouth natural. She seems like a good mom too who actually spends time with her kids.

    • Jayna says:

I agree. Gwyneth is actually a low-maintenance woman as far as out and about every day. Casual clothes, no makeup, no inflated face or lips, and hair in a ponytail. I also think she’s a good mom.

    • Jwoolman says:

Yes, I tend to think kindly of her for that reason. She doesn’t pile on the makeup or inflate her lips… I think she looks fine as her natural self.

I would wonder about a child’s skin, being relatively new, and the need for facials. But I know nothing about such things so maybe they are gentle enough for young skin. She’s old enough for beginning puberty also.

  34. lucy2 says:

I’ve seen non-celebs paying that and more for younger kids at salons, which is kind of crazy to me. Her daughter is getting to the age where that sort of thing might be fun for her, and if it’s a nice bonding experience, great. Plenty of other stuff to complain about regarding Goop.

  35. perplexed says:

Apple is half-Chris. I’ll laugh if she winds up preferring becoming a musician who shuns the red carpet to maintain her street-cred.

  36. OrigialTessa says:

$200 doesn’t mean the same thing to Gwyneth. It’s like $10 to the rest of us, so it’s kind of moot. If it’s bonding and they enjoy it, then so be it.

  37. Portugal the Stan says:

That doesn’t sound unreasonable to me. Why must we act as though everyone is struggling and middle class? I can see even an upper middle class family doing this. I used to pay $300 for haircuts and I am by no means rich or elite. Now, if you said $5k, I would scoff at that. Skin care is important and a priority for many people.

  38. Grace says:

Can you imagine how much MORE insufferable GOOP will be when her lovely daughter IS a famous model! Ugh.

  39. KiddVicious says:

I still crack up a the name Apple Martin.

I think I’ll go for an apple martini after work.

  40. Jayna says:

I think Apple is a Gwyneth’s mini-me, except she got her dad’s lips, which is a good thing. Wait, and maybe his nose. I guess she’s a mixture, on second thought.

  41. Nimbolicious says:

Seems to me the kid is doomed. Zero to insufferable at lightning speed.

  42. KBeth says:

Not a fan of Paltrow but I don’t see the big deal, I occasionally treat my 6 year old to a $12 manicure. Goop has a bigger budget than me!
I think Apple is really pretty & wholesome looking.

  43. Breakfast Margaritas says:

Who knew Blythe Danner had such strong genes? Goop and Goop Jr are carbon copies of granny Blythe

  44. Nky says:

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with facials at eleven. I started to get acne at around eight, so yeah, I’m down.
Even if it isn’t about acne, it’s still a fun bonding activity and she probably doesn’t get anything too serious done

  45. Jib says:

Me, when I wanted to bond with my daughter, we’d go on a hike or out to a coffeehouse or to dinner. I honestly never had a facial, and don’t even know what they really are.

  46. Debutante says:

I think she looks just like her Dad, not Gwyneth. What u can see of her, anyway. Half of her face is hidden . Cute enough, I think.
Cute enough not to need facials at eleven !

  47. Shannon says:

I’m not a big Paltrow fan, but I don’t see an issue with it. Sounds like a fun time, and they have the money. Where I live now (I’m a transplant) is a tiny, rural Southern town with a pretty bad economy and mothers still drag daughters around and pay hundreds of dollars on pageant dresses (pageants are HUGE here), and that just seems crazy to me. If I had the money, and a daughter, I’d spring for the facials but not the pageants lol.

  48. Patty frost says:

Its harmless I suppose. I bet Kris and Kylie went for $200 plastic surgery consultations when Kylie was eleven too.

  49. Really? says:

Apple is adorable. She already outshines her mom with her youthful beauty, naturally. Her mother is probably ruining her. To be expected.

  50. Minxx says:

Apple is gorgeous! She has Chris’ mouth. I have to say that without makeup G is quite homely looking.
I bet that Goop will become a stage mom when Apple starts modeling. She’ll probably push her into acting and live vicariously through her.

    • Susannah says:

Apple, from earlier pictures, will need major orthodonture, then will probably have her nose thinned to look more Goopish. She’s cute now, but nothing sensational.

  51. Alexis says:

This is no big deal for wealthy people. A kid that age may already be getting acne or other skin trouble. Facials help with that. And, as Kaiser said, it could be a bonding activity too. I don’t judge GOOP for this.
