Yesterday, Kim Kardashian posted a nude selfie on her Instagram. I’m not going to post it, because… ugh. But you can see Kim’s Instagram here. My initial reaction was “that’s not how her body looks these days,” and Kim later pointed out that it’s actually an older photo, taken from before her second pregnancy. I mean, it’s still Photoshopped like crazy, but whatever. The whole nude-selfie thing had Kim trending on Twitter most of Monday, and other celebrities felt like they should chime in. Celebs like… Bette Midler.

Want me to buy you some clothes?” All said in good fun, right? I mean, Kim loves to post ridiculous selfies and of course she wants a reaction. But then Kim went FULL KANYE on Twitter. I know the joke is “Kanye got a hold of Kim’s Twitter,” but if this was Kanye, there would be like 30 more tweets about leather jeggings and Taylor Swift and how Piers Morgan doesn’t respect art. Personally, I think it’s sort of funny that Kanye is rubbing off on Kim. I mean, going after Bette Midler of all people? And poor Chloe Grace Moretz.

While I don’t think she’s some helpless victim in her life, I don’t really think she has much of her own personality either. She seems like one of those people who absorb the personality and opinions of whoever is around them. They don’t really think for themselves and neither do they want to. She’s heavily influenced by her mother, public opinion and seemingly her husband. It makes sense that what little exists of her is petty and defensive, what else would she be?

I didn’t understand Chloe’s tweet…in one way it seemed like she was defending Kim and criticizing Bette for “slut shaming” Kim while saying that she’d never post a nude selfie herself. If that is the case, why did Kim slam her? Isn’t she sort of sticking up for Kim? Plus it’s kind of ridiculous for Kim not to know the name of a well known and very talented young actress while no-talent Kim thinks she’s “somebody” just because people are stupid enough to pay her for doing nothing except posting nude selfies and being self absorbed!

If every woman needs to cover up so that girls don’t think their naked bodies are all they have to offer, where does that leave other decisions like weddings, engagement rings, marriage, motherhood, sex, modest clothing, abstinence, wearing makeup, being a stay-at-home mom, etc.? Do women need to be ‘called out’ for doing those things and told to stop so other girls don’t think that’s all they have to offer? It also implies that women can ever only do, be, or present one thing. No room for “Every woman can do what she wants with her body and we can STILL do/be/have more than that. If someone randomly went for Chloe Moretz over her semi-nude photoshoot, I’d definitely be defending her, but in this case Kim K (or Khloe, Kris, or Kanye) was actually right about something. You can’t be all, “Teach women and girls that they have more to offer than their bodies by not flaunting yours” to one skin-baring woman and not expect that woman (or other people) to bring up your recent skin-baring magazine photoshoot. Either live the “Our modesty is for the greater good” life yourself, or let people make their own choices with their bodies without policing or scapegoating them. Or even do both of those things, like Adele, Lorde, Janelle Monae, or Zendaya. All 4 of those women are pretty modest, but you don’t see them going around telling other women that they need to be modest for other girls. As a matter of fact, none of them are fans of that message.
I think calling that Nylon cover (not shoot) semi-nude is a real stretch, respectfully. You can’t see anything but her arms, legs, and feet.

At some point midway during last year, I decided that I was done with the Kardashians. I wasn’t going to read any more stories about them, or click on any links about them. I’ve pretty much stuck to that decision really well and still, somehow, I know every f*cking detail of their lives.
Anyway, this one I clicked on because the reactions of celebrities pissed me off and I can’t really explain why. Obviously she did it for the attention and doesn’t really care what kind of reaction she gets as long as she gets some kind of reaction. Maybe it’s because they’re being so critical of somebody who made her name by getting her kit off. Like, it’s pointless to make those jokes, and they’re only doing it for the attention too. Moretz’s tweet just seems so… sanctimonious.
Agree 100%, I don’t watch that show and I know so much just from reading the countless headlines that are published hourly on the web. This is not new, comedians insulting Kim, her whole career is one big joke but she gets the last laugh because she cashes in on these kinds of attention and interaction.
I blame the media, the people do not demand this kind of trash but faced with very little alternative programming with the kind of next level marketing that KKK gets, our young girls are left with one option… Kardashian trash. Her nakedness is a business, a business that is not relegated to specific media. Back in the day, you wanted to see naked women, you go to specific channels, magazines etc. Today, she has broken out and her clan is everywhere in main stream media, infiltrating every crack and crevice in society and its sad beyond words.
She along with the countless famewhores she has inspired is a tragedy for our generation because it is rarely countered with the opposite. Her intentions have no other basis than making money. Anyone who argues this woman encourages more positive conversation about women’s freedom and our elevation, is one I strongly disagree with.
You can come across people who may be sexually liberated but have issues, a lack of confidence, or insecurities with their physical appearance or some other issue/flaw. Just like you can come across people who are okay with their looks but their problem is in some other area. It’s rare for someone to be empowered in every area of life.

The majority of the Kardashians’ fans are teenaged girls. And yes, they are deeply influenced by them. There are LEGIONS of Instagram accounts created and run by young girls who base their lives around the activities of this family. There are also tons of blogs out there recreating their fashion choices. There aren’t all that many women who follow this family, but there are MILLIONS of young girls.

Kim doesn’t need to be a saint, but she has built an empire selling shitty goods (Kardashian Kollection) to young girls and then she wants to turn around and post naked pictures because she likes to pretend her fanbase is different than it actually is. I don’t watch the show and all I know about these people is pretty much from CB, but I get the impression that the one thing Kim has going for her is that she’s actually a nice person. If she retires that persona, what else is there that’s positive?
Oh, she’s never really been a nice person. She doesn’t get all diva in public, which is good, but she treats other people on her shows pretty shabby. Especially her family. Lots of anger brewing under the surface in that one. She uses others as her attack dogs in public to keep her nice persona intact.

Part of what kept Kim relevant for so long was the fact that she seemed harmless and came off almost as “sweet”. If this is the new side of Kim, whatever is left of her fan base may turn out the pitch forks and abandon ship. This is petty Kim.
Also what is it with people’s panties in a bunch about what Bette said? First, she is a comedian, that’s just what she does. It’s just jokes!. Second, it feels like people have a problem calling a duck, a duck nowadays. People please. This isn’t Kim being empowered and owning her sexuality. This is Kim’s insecurity and attention-whoring thirst in full display and it’s tacky. The total opposite of empowering. Kim’s body image is in the gutter and with Kendall and Kylie being younger and in better shape while getting more attention, Kim went the cheap route. Let’s keep it real, ladies. What is the easiest way for a woman (or even a man) to get attention (whether positive or negative)? Getting naked for the world to see. Kim comes off so needy and “look-at-me” that I get second hand embarrassed for her, even though we know it probably takes a lot more to embarrass Kimmy poo. If it was a wedding gift for the second marriage, maybe Bette ticked off Kim by getting a gift not on that obscenely expensive Bridal Registry. Hence Kim (or whoever wrote the tweets) calling it fake?

No, I think she was attempting to aim for the jugular in her own weird little way. The money thing might have been an attempted joke, but the rest- no. She was very defensive and trying to hurt the other women. She really needs to try the 24 hour rule – wait that long before posting. She actually should have said nothing. She wanted to post an old nude pic, for whatever reason, so she did. Why get embroiled in a Twitter feud over it? And in this case, her responses just made her look stupid, it sounds as though she misunderstood the comments. She wasn’t being attacked but responded as though she was.
Kim K brings this on herself and then can’t take the heat. Seriously, she needs to find something to do with herself other than taking selfies. Besides exhibiting a ridiculous amount of narcissism, it’s very, very boring.
The funniest thing is Chloe was actually sticking up for her. This is all kim. I’ve watched the show and she is actually quite mean. I think it’s sad that Khloe is known as the crash/mean one but Khloe has actually been the only one who stuck up for her brother. Putting up an old nude selfie doesn’t seem honest, she could write #goals or something. Then the nude selfie with the black bars on it, it looks like she’s doing the ass out pose with legs apart to get that optimum thinness, so that also seems dishonest, it’s an illusion, and that’s my biggest issue with the nude selfies, not that she puts up a nude selfie. You can be a mom, be sexy and put up nude selfies and she probably just wants to celebrate getting her body back.
