Earlier in the month JayBird reported that Goran Visnjic is involved in a paternity suit with a woman back in his native Croatia who claims her four month-old baby is the result of a brief fling she had with the married ER actor when he was visiting the country. While refusing to acknowledge the baby is his, Visnjic has been sending the woman $1,500 a month toward the child. What’s worse is that Visnjic and his wife just adopted a baby of their own in April.
The woman with whom he had an affair, 36 year-old Mirela Rupic, has filed a paternity suit against Visnjic and wants him to acknowledge legally that he is the father of her baby daughter. She seems to have been willing to keep the entire affair and resulting baby a secret were it not for threatening calls from Visnjic’s wife.
Visnjic has admitted the affair to a Croatian Magazine, and while his excuse is laughable, he does seem to be a better man for fessing up:
Goran and Mirela’s chance meeting took place at Cafe S in Goran’s hometown of Sibernik, Croatia, last year…
Goran and Mireal sipped coffee, and before long they found themselves in bed together, she says.
Now Goran’s terrible mistake could cost him a fortune, as well as his marriage…
Although he already sends Mirela $1,500-a-month in child support, she insisted he take a paternity test to prove he is Lana’s father, which he has not agreed to do.
Goran confessed to the affair with Mirela in a Croatian magazine called “Story.”
“I guess it was the time difference and the alcohol that affected me,” he explained in the interview.
“I have no need to cheat on my wife. I have always been against infidelity, and it is unbelievable that I did this.”
[From The National Enquirer, print edition, July 30, 2007]
The time difference? Did he think his affair happened in some alternate universe and he’s somehow not responsible for it? I understand that he’s saying he was tired and drunk, but unless there were roofies in that drink he doesn’t have anyone else to blame.
Still, at least he’s not pulling an Eddie Murphy and denying it up until the DNA results come back. He has also agreed to take a paternity test, and from the way the article is worded it doesn’t sound like he has yet been legally forced to.
Visnjic also acknowledges that his wife made threatening phone calls to the other woman, and says “She was not polite in those messages, but who would be in her position?”
What do you guys think? Was this just a one-off affair that resulted in a baby or a pattern of cheating in which the guy finally got caught?
