Jessica Simpson is back in the spotlight, if you can call hawking rental cars being “back in the spotlight.” The 35-year-old singer and fashion maven recently signed on to be the spokesperson for Budget Rent-A-Car. It’s not the first time Jessica has used her image to sell you stuff. Remember her Dessert Beauty line of edible lip glosses and cosmetics? She’s also done commercials for Proactiv, Pizza Hut and DirecTV and also, of course, has promoted her own fashion line and cute but painful shoes. Jessica recently spoke with Huffington Post about the new gig as well as her adorable kids, daughter Maxwell, 3 and son Ace, 2 who have pretty much taken over her Instagram account.
On her public image: I don’t really believe that paparazzi control the image that I have, you know, at all. It really is me who controls my own image and I do take that very seriously. When I do post pictures of my kids on Instagram, it’s not necessarily trying to outdo someone else. I’m not trying to get something out there before someone else can, [but it’s] because I think my kids are beautiful and adorable.
On her kids’ love of music: Well, my daughter [Maxwell] really is a fan of of “Mikki Naj.” [Laughs] Not Nicki Minaj, “Mikki Naj.” That’s her inspiration at the moment. And Ace is — I could brag — but he has perfect pitch. He’s got such good tone. He can sing so well, but the words don’t always come out correctly. It’s cute, they both love music and they like to dance and circle around each other. My daughter is trying to learn to break dance at the moment, she has one move — she puts her hands down and puts her leg up like she’s break dancing.
On returning to music: It’s been a very exciting time to rediscover music and I definitely have so much inspiration. I’ve been in the music business for so long, and it’s interesting to see what I come up with as a mom and the perspective I have after all the records I have made and all the life situations I’ve been through. There’s a lot to talk about. There’s a lot to sing about. There’s a lot I feel like people will relate to.
I don’t know if I should admit this, but I don’t mind Jessica, even though her shoes are like gorgeous torture devices for my feet. She’s gotten her share of flack over the years, from her “mom jeans” to maybe showing up drunk to hawk her wares on the Home Shopping Network. But, for a mother of 2, Jessica isn’t looking too bad, showing off her curves in a form-fitting outfit while out on the town with husband Eric Johnson and sister Ashlee this past Saturday night.
She told Entertainment Tonight back in January that she credits Mom duty to her toned bod, “I think being a mom is enough of a diet. You have to run around chasing your kids, but I do eat a lot of their corn dogs, so I have to get on the treadmill a lot to watch my TV shows.” Guess she’s no longer contractually obligated to talk up Weight Watchers.

“I think being a mom is enough of a diet. You have to run around chasing your kids”
Sigh.
THIS. Because of this, if I could, I would buy shares of Jessica Simpson stock over shares of Goop. I just think she’s the Coca-Cola of celebrities, and Gwyneth is some weird moonwater thing people don’t get.
She gave the answer that moms HATE. No one loses weight that way, it’s just the celebrity BS answer. She may as well have said that she does yoga a few times a week and drinks a lot of water.
Bless you for picking that first pic, the dress is fighting for its life.
I love her, I really do. I re-watch Newlyweds at least once a year, there is something so entertaining about her to me. If she ever descides to do another reality TV show, I’m THERE.
always had a soft spot for her too. seems like a genuinely nice person. and her kids are so cute!
one thing that bothers me about her clothes/shoes. yes, the shoes are cute but can be painful, but what really irks me are her jeans/pants. she doesn’t seem to sell “petite” sizes that I can find, and it’s strange because she’s so short!
and then I see how she wears her pants, OVER her shoes so they look like hooves. no wonder.
She went away for a but and allowed me to miss her. Welcome back, Farty.
That first pic makes me sad for her boobs-it looks like they have been tried and found guilty, and are now in Boob Prison. OTH, her kids are lovely.
Whatever happened to Papa Joe and is he still “managing” hot young male models?
Am I the only one a scoge concerned about her tiny daughter’s love of Mikki Naj? (I’m referring to the appropriateness of the lyrics at her daughter’s age, nothing else.)
No, that struck me as inappropriate as well. The subject matter in pretty much ALL of Nikki’s songs would be too much if it was my kids. I also cringe at little girls in 2 piece bikinis as well. I just figure, why sexualize a child? Just kinda weird in my opinion. To each their own I suppose.
Maybe it’s just the generation. I wasn’t concerned about my daughter in a bikini at a young age, and I’ve got a lot of photos of myself in two-piece suits as a young girl. But then we didn’t think much about creepy men ogling younger girls, etc. and worse. I think the increased accessibility to news has make people more conscious of such things. I guess what I’m trying to say is that JS’ daughter sporting a bikini didn’t hit me one way or the other. Maxwell’s constant duck-face pose on Instagram on the other hand…
It’s probably more about the beat of the songs and the colorful visual of Nikki, it does makes you wanna dance and for a tiny kid that must be it.
Yeah she is long gone from WW, she didn’t do much for them and they are all over Oprah right now anyway.
Has she gotten some work done on her face? That bottom pic especially makes her look different, but in the IG pic with her daughter she looks like she’s paid a visit to whoever did Ashlee’s nose.
Her singing career was never that great. Why is she bothering? She’s already super rich. She barely has to do anything and the money keeps rolling in from that clothing/shoe line of hers. I don’t think she’d be able to handle the music business of 2016.
The fact that she’s shilling for Budget begs the question of whether or not she’s actually rolling in the money.
Good point.
Her husband reminds me of Tori Spelling’s husband.
You guys remember when she tried a big musical comeback with A Public Affair? That sank like a stone lol
Jessica was able to leverage her singing recording & reality show into her highly successful clothing, shoes etc where her income outranks many successful actresses so I admire that. Her line accommodates higher sizes in a cuter sexier way, and her own yo-yo size image helped maintain her positive public image. I worked at Sony music briefly in 2003 and she was a bid deal at Sony then.
