Duchess Kate wears decade-old boots, skinny jeans for Bhutan hike: cute?

It’s been said before, but it’s worth repeating: the Duchess of Cambridge is at her best when she gets to do something athletic. When the photo-op involves running, hiking or being sporty, she does well. So these photos are totally fine with me – William and Kate took a three-hour hike today in Bhutan. It was an uphill climb/hike to the Tiger’s Nest monastery built into a clifftop. It’s one of the biggest tourist sites in Bhutan, which brings me to another point that a lot of the royal reporters have been making… just like Will and Kate’s Australia/New Zealand tour two years ago, this tour has seemingly involved a lot of tourist activities, almost like this is a government-sponsored vacation. Of course Will and Kate wanted to see the Tiger’s Nest and of course they enjoyed themselves. But don’t call it a royal tour, you know? Call it what it is: a vacation.

For the hours-long hike, Kate chose a decent ensemble. Meaning, at least she didn’t attempt a lengthy hike in wedges or heels. She actually pulled out some brown Penelope Chilvers boots which she’s had in her closet for more than a decade. Kate was actually wearing these boots in one of her most famous college-era photos (go here to see). The boots cost £475. She paired her old boots with skinny jeans (that likely have some stretch), a simple white blouse and the £495 Nubuck vest/waistcoat. I don’t understand why a three-hour hike wouldn’t have been a perfect moment for a ponytail, but then again, I’m not a duchess.

Apparently, as they were hiking, Kate joked that they were “burning off the curry.” The Daily Mail also points out that William was working up a sweat but that Kate is so sporty that she was breezing through the hike.

I love that the @KensingtonRoyal Twitter manager posted the butt shot like that was the big take-away image from the hike.

    Skinny jeans!!! 👏👏👏

    It can be done.

Not just Kate, but William too.

    • Esmom says:

William looks so much better, more youthful, with the slimmer pants he’s been wearing.

      • Vava says:

I think he needs to work with his tailor, he’s been showing too much anatomy, imo. Either that, or he needs to buy better underwear (assuming he wears it!).

      • Zimmerman says:

I don’t understand why William does not wear a hat!!!

    • Anne tommy says:

I just can’t be doing with the Farrah Fawcett Charlie’s Angels hair. Or maybe it’s more like a Farrah crossed with Jaclyn Smith’s Charlie’s Angels do. Whatever, it’s naff.

      • ABC says:

The hair, his underwear, it’s too much my eyes are bleeding. Need some brain bleach for the daily shots of Wills junk. Does he really have to ‘rub our faces in it’ to the extent he does? I shouldn’t have to wonder if he wears underwear, it’s bad enough with her!

  2. Locke Lamora says:

The pictures look like they’ve been taken in the 80s. Like a still from Dynasty.

    • kcarp says:

My husband watches Dynasty on Amazon, you are right this is something Blake and Crystal would do, but Alexis would be lurking to shove Crystal off the cliff…..It’s so embarrassing I know these characters.

      • LAK says:

In high school, there was a girl whose every sentence started, ‘on dynasty blah, blah, blah’ no matter the subject of conversation and occassionally answering questions in class. Her personal motto was ‘what would the characters in dynasty do/say?’ Consequently we nicknamed her ‘dynasty’.

Years later, when she became a mother, she named her children after the characters in the show.

      • Liberty says:

@LAK sorry to reply so tardily. I read your comment, and fainted.

  3. Jaded says:

Well looky that! She finally left off the 8 lbs of eyeliner and she looks great, much younger and fresher.

  4. littlemissnaughty says:

She looks good, the outfit is perfect for a hike. Her hair looks good but if I did mine like that and went on a hike in warm weather, it would be wrecked after 30 minutes.

As someone else pointed out in the other thread though … Wills needs to rectify that pants/bulge situation asap. I do not need to see his royal chandelier every time he goes out.

ETA: In the DM photos her hairdresser shows up. Judging from her own hair, she CAN do good hair. Guess we know who’s making the choices then.

ETA2: Okay, doesn’t seem to be that warm where they are.

    • serious says:

Yep, just popped in to say…..it’s still to the left and I don’t need that level of detail. Mind you in these photos I think there is something extra in his pocket.

    • TheSageM says:

The outfit is perfect for a hike, really? WHO wears skinny jeans to go on a hike?

      • littlemissnaughty says:

Uh, if they’re super stretchy, why the hell not?

      • layla says:

I agree. The outfit is great.. but not a for a supposedly “hours long” strenuous hike. Perhaps a walk, yes.. but not a hike. There is a difference.

I hike. A lot. This outfit is ridiculous for that… don’t even get me started on her choice of footwear.. FOR A HIKE!

      • Cee says:

I once hiked in skinny jeans and it was the worst decision. I was in Karlovy Vary, in Czech Republic, and the valley/mountain/whatever was super steep. The only thing that saved me were my trainers and being somewhat elastic.

I doubt they hiked that far because their footwear alone could have cost them.

      • Hazel says:

I hike a lot, too, and would not have worn this outfit, except for maybe the blouse. It all seems more fashiony than practical. And I would have worn a hat. Oh, and brought water, too, but I don’t have minions for that.

      • Kitten says:

        That’s what I’m saying!!! LOL
I would NEVER wear skinny jeans OR riding boots for a hike, EVER.

Even if climbing isn’t involved (but especially if it IS) you need adequate and supportive footwear to grip rocky surfaces and comfy pants with enough stretch that you can properly move on rough terrain.

I cannot imagine anyone who actually hikes thinking that this is adequate hiking attire. I can only assume that this is a very easy hike on amateur trails. Otherwise that outfit is not appropriate or safe, even, for hiking.

      • TheSageM says:

Thank you ladies, I hike too and go on long distance walks and would never ever wear skinny jeans, however stretchy! Oh, and walking boots are a must too. People who think that’s appropriate hiking wear obviously don’t hike.

      • Magnoliarose says:

Nobody would wear them. For a photo and a light walk definitely but otherwise no one.

      • littlemissnaughty says:

Guys, seriously. This is ridiculous. How much of a “hike” do we think this actually was? Just because Willy was sweating??? Come on. They didn’t climb anything. This looks like a glorified stroll on a well-worn path.

      • Liberty says:

I think her outfit looks good on her. That seems to be more her style. BUT I hike too, and I am agog at the idea of doing so in skinny jeans and those boots (though I do like the boots). Never!

EDIT!!!! SHE OWNS HIKING BOOTS but…. chose not to wear them? Photo from the Telegraph of that Borneo jaunt in 2012:

        http://www.telegraph.co.uk/fashion/people/how-duchess-of-cambridge-is-packing-for-her-tour-of-india-hiking/

      • Harla Jodet says:

Rather disrespectful of Kate and her posse to wear skin tight jeggings and tank top (her hairdresser did) to visit a monastery.

    • teacakes says:

It’s Bhutan, not 38 degree Delhi hell, they’re way up in the Himalayan foothills and probably getting a nice breeze even with the summer sunshine.

    • Green Is Good says:

      Loling at “Royal Chandelier’!

    • Katydid04 says:

I just can’t believe she kept her hair down for a hike. Maybe it’s me, but whenever I do any exercising I can’t stand to have my hair down. A ponytail would have been perfect for her! But liked the outfit other than that.

    • SKF says:

Hmmm… Jeans are terrible for hikes. Also the boots I’m not sure about. I would think they would be rubbing after 3 hours! Looks good on the surface of it I guess but I hike a lot and this is not a very practical outfit for a real hike. My mother always looks wonderful in proper hiking gear, somehow looking stylish in proper bushwalking kit – it is possible! I don’t but I don’t have the expensive gear like my mum. She’ll wear something like a white lightweight collared hiking shirt in that special material, black hiking pants (again in the special material), and the sneaker-style low hiking boots. With a small silk scarf tied around her neck to keep the sun off and catch sweat basically. She looks fantastic and is comfortable. Hair always up obviously!! And a hat or visor.

Anyway, I also just came to say that them doing stuff like this brings enormous international attention to key destinations in the countries they visit which is then likely to boost tourism. I have no doubt that the countries visited suggest those activities themselves. This is marketing and promotion for them, make no mistake. They are working for the countries when they do this, even if it is awesome and fun.

      • Kitten says:

Are we sure she actually hiked? Maybe she was airlifted up there..
Is it like Mt. Washington where you have the option of driving a car up there instead of hiking and slap a bumper sticker on your car that says “This Car Climbed Mt Washington”?

      • Fallon says:

@Kitten – the King had sent horses along in case they needed to ride for a bit, but they apparently walked the whole way.

    • Meadow says:

I’ve actually ‘hiked’ that trail, but I’d call it more a steep walk, old ladies do it (fit old ladies but still..). It’s not that strenuous, take it slow and it’s easy. There is a cafe half way up to take a rest and then continue on. The hardest part is the last bit where you have to go down and up again to reach the monastery. It’s much faster coming down. The real difficulty lies in the altitude some older or unfit people can take that and just stop at the cafe which has a nice view of the Tigers nest, but it’s worth the extra half hour walk.

      • Vava says:

        🙂
the trail didn’t look that difficult to me, to be honest. But it’s difficult to tell what the pitch is like in the photos. Thanks for your comment.

I think Kate was into the FASHION thing with this particular pap stroll.

  5. Alexa de Vere says:

I have had the most horrendous, shitty, traumatic Mum day today. 2 wee accidents, 1 incident of toddler-running-off, I left the cafe and forgot to pay so now have to go back and I slammed the car door so hard my son cried so now I feel awful. Seeing this pair on their smug holiday is just too much today. Can she not fall on her arse or get jabbed by nettles or something to at least make her vaguely human and fallible? I agree this just looks like a tax-sponsored jolly while the rest of us are stuck back here just getting on with muddling through the usual shit.

Sorry for the rant- it’s just they’re so bloody annoying.

    • Capepopsie says:

      Poor you!
      Some days are just terrible!
Have a nice cup of Tea and
      Some hobnobs and listen to
      Your favorite music !

Kiss and Hug the kids and move
      On. You will survive. 😊

    • LAK says:

Oh Alexa, hope the day improves.

    • manda says:

I’m so sorry cheer up! I’m sure your little boy has forgotten all about it!

But eww, you think she’s infallible? I feel like she fails on a daily basis, at least from what I read. She just doesn’t seem to care, which is what annoys me.

    • ClaireB says:

Chocolate. Those kinds of parenting days require lots of chocolate and occasionally medicinal alcohol. Hugs to you!

    • CynicalCeleste says:

Tough days do feel tougher when faced with those who did nothing to earn their vast privileges. Maybe it will make you feel the tiniest bit better to know that Jamaica is talking about kicking those royal bottoms to the curb.

    • Jib says:

      I hope your day improves.

      And I agree – I think this is a taxpayer-funded honeymoon.

    • Magnoliarose says:

      I hope it improved.
This elongated postcard trip is nauseating. On a bad day it can bring up some very dark feelings toward the dynamic duo.

    • Liberty says:

Alexa! hope your day got better!!

Yes….watching a glam vacation mascarade as work on a day like you’ve had is maddening!

  6. Anna says:

    That hair is problematic.

  7. lower-case deb says:

i hope this news will stop people from saying that Kate is too frail, too malnourished, etc. she clearly managed the hike better than William who plays competitive polo and whose job requires a certain level of fitness!

    • Cee says:

He really doesn’t play competitive polo – it’s more vanity polo than anything else. I actually know world class, competitive, polo players.

    • Magnoliarose says:

The sexy ginger is a better polo player but you rarely heard about it.

  8. Capepopsie says:

I have longer hair than K, but I
Never ever do a ponytail, because
It just wont stay up! It keeps
Sliding down, so I have to pull it
    Tight constantly! Very annoying.

Maybe she has the same problem
    You know Kaiser?

    • Sharon Lea says:

I’ve had that problem too with ponytails, where the band keeps slipping down. If anything, I use a clip with a French twist.

    • Erinn says:

I don’t have this problem – but I think it’s mainly that while I have a ton of hair – it’s pretty fine. Length wise, it’s past my bra-back. So it’s super long, but I do know other people who have had and issue keeping ponytails up.

      • Lady D says:

I have the same hair Erinn. Tons of it, really fine, and just past my strap. I don’t have a problem keeping a pony tail in place. Are you by any chance blonde too?

    • Wren says:

Extra long bobby pins are the only thing that holds my hair up when it’s really long. That and doubling up sturdy hair elastics if I want a ponytail. Braids are good too.

I guess what I’m saying is where there’s a will there’s a way. Obviously Kate has no intention of pulling her hair back because if she did it would happen one way or another. I personally don’t understand how she can function with her hair in her face all the time but whatever.

    • Green Girl says:

I have a lot of hair, and what’s saved me is finding a sturdy elastic hairband. They’re a bit more than the usual, but my hair stays in place.

      • MC2 says:

+1- I finally spent the extra money on the spendy textured bands & never looked back. Totally worth it.

    • hmmm says:

She wears a pony tail to go shopping sometimes. It looks good on her. So, she doesn’t seem to have a problem with slippage.

    • Magnoliarose says:

I have elbow length hair and too much of it, but I do a braid ponytail for exercise or when I’m active, but for fashion I found wrapping a lock around a no breakage elastic and pinning it, stopped the problem.

      • Timbuktu says:

Exactly! If pony tail really doesn’t work – braid it! Braids hurt your head less and hold better, and given her access to professional help and her long hair, she could’ve had them do something very sturdy yet sophisticated on her, and it would’ve been a very different look, too.

  9. NUTBALLS says:

My neck is sweating just looking at Kate with her hair down. That’s the fanciest, shmanciest looking couple on a hike that I’ve ever seen.

Must have been a walk, rather than a bona fide hike. pfft.

  10. Eleonor says:

She looks good. I like everything, minus the hair.

  11. Yummymummy says:

I think she looks like a pirate. I hate the outfit

    • Olenna says:

Ditto. The boots aren’t for hiking but are OK. However, the vest (and that hair!) through it into the territory of fashionably contrived. But, that’s her *style*, theme dressing.

      • wolfpup says:

“Fashionably contrived” is definitely Kate’s style. Those boots are not for hiking, but a device for her contrived style. I thought the Tony Birch gown the only truthful piece of clothing that she wore – her clothing is manipulative, not a compliment to her host country. I am tired of the way she sexualizes her clothing – regardless of custom, she must show us her legs – again, and again, and again; ad nauseum, like she’s the only woman in Bhutan who has a pair.

      • Vava says:

I like that term and it’s true. Kate has no class – she has to show off some part of her body.

      • The Original Mia says:

“Fashionably contrived”. Definitely stealing that phrase. That’s her fashion sense to a tee.

    • Esmom says:

Ha, agreed. The boots are ok (borderline, imo, for hiking) but a leather vest and a linen blouse for hiking? I can’t think of worse garments. The skinny jeans can’t have been all that comfortable either for 3 hours of hiking, unless they have a lot of give.

    • Vava says:

The outfit would be good for archery!

      • NUTBALLS says:

        You are absolutely right!

      • Moneypenny says:

Just giver her a hat with a feather, and she’s good to go. I’m envisioning Puss in Boots.

      • Magnoliarose says:

She’s the original Lady Swashbuckler. She fights crime on the high seas. That’s where she is when she’s not doing royal duties.

      • Karyn says:

Puss in Boots! Exactly what I was thinking! Or a lady swashbuckling pirate! Am so over the theme dressing. For the love of god can’t the woman just wear a Tshirt and hoody and some comfy trousers and normal hiking boots/trainers! And a ponytail.

    • minime says:

I have to agree. I really liked her style till now (I loved all of the dresses, what can I say), but this looks like the most uncomfortable clothes someone could choose for 3 hours of hiking! Skinny jeans and those boots?! It looks like she is ready to ride a horse not for a 3 hour hiking.

    • Sharon Lea says:

The boots have a thick sole so probably good for a hike. But yeah, going to the knee, they seem like they could get really hot. So no water bottles on the 3 hour hike? No power bars? 😉

      • Cee says:

the ankles need to be secured to prevent twisting it or losing balance. Hiking up a mountain trail is not the same as strolling down the woods/gardens.

  12. ldub says:

    OMG! Yes!
But is she Falon or Amanda?
    I think it’s 40/60. Falon had a personality.

  13. PinaColada says:

Everyone talks about how thin Kate is, but William is super thin, too. I’m sure it’s natural- everyone in my family is super, super thin and it’s entirely natural/genetic for us. But I’m pregnant and thinking about food nonstop and I can’t stop thinking about how they can have amazing food 24/7 and chefs and idk- I’d be all over that!!

    • LAK says:

Genetics or not, he has to keep his weight down to play polo.

    • mp says:

I think they are both thin naturally, but I don’t know if her size now is her natural size?

I see her and I hate the world we live in where Kate ever thought she was fat pre-weight loss (that throwback pic Kaiser posted). You can see a huge difference. She was beautiful then, and still is now, but just seems very aged in her face and neck from being so thin.

      • Cee says:

That’s not her natural size. She was never big/fat/chubby, she was always slim. But a decade of dating him did something to her and her weight started to come off. It became especially evident after their engagement. Those of us who have followed these two since the first photos at St. Andrew’s know how much she has molded and changed herself. Even if ignoring the hair extensions/wiglets/hair colour, her teeth and even her nose, her weight has been the biggest change over the past 15 years. Right now she is painfully thin because that is not her natural body/weight. and she’s not the paragon of health.

    • This Face Believes You says:

William is not extremely thin though. He is tall and not overweight, but no one would look at him and think he was starving himself because he simply doesn’t look unhealthy, Kate really does. As to her genetics, while the Middletons are all fit, Kate is by far the thinnest and the only one I have ever heard people comment about being too thin. I’ve heard just about every other negative opinion on the looks of Ma Middleton and Pips, but never that they look emaciated. Kate was never overweight, but she was most certainly thicker with distinct muscle tone when prior to the engagement. Without keeping up a rigorous work out schedule her body may have lost muscle tone and mass instead of gaining weight, but this is still an extreme. Especially when you compare it to the women who share her genetics.

      • mp says:

do you think she has an eating disorder though? Because that would be so sad.
I just can’t get over the difference of how fuller her face and body were before, it makes me so sad that she thought she needed to lose weight.

  14. Maum says:

That outfit is ridiculous for a hike! Everyone round her is wearing hiking shoes and she wears knee length thick leather riding boots? Her feet must have been so sweaty and full of blisters.

She looks like a Ralph Lauren ad with the riding boots and the leather waistcoat. I think she’s channelling Jecca-in-Kenya.
Maybe that’s why Wills looks happy round her for a change.

ETA oh, and nothing about the beauty of the landscape and how lucky they are to visit such an amazing country? Instead her only comment about the trek was a ‘joke’ about burning off calories.
Now what’s the bet she will be wearing some form of red jacket when she goes to the Taj Mahal this weekend. Time to channel Diana!

    • SamiHami says:

She’s wearing ten year old boots that are well broken in and comfortable for her. I’m sure her feet felt just fine after that hike.

      • Maum says:

Six hours on rocky mountain tracks? Sure.

      • Esmom says:

Maum, you never know, especially if she’s fit. My husband once forgot his hiking boots on a day hike in the Cascade mountains and did it, rocks and ruts and boulders and all, in nice leather work shoes! It was crazy, like something out of a TV ad. But he was fine.

      • Erinn says:

Maum – probably just as well as if she’d bought brand new hiking boots that she hadn’t worn. If your shoes fit properly, and you’re wearing proper socks, you should be reasonably okay.

      • Cee says:

@Esmom – my father did the same for a 1 hour hike that turned into 3 because of his blasted shoes. We were all on edge, anticipating him slipping and falling off.

      • Esmom says:

Cee, ha, funny. Glad he didn’t hurt himself! I wasn’t on edge so much with my husband as just pissed — who forgets their shoes/boots to go on a hike?

      • Cee says:

Esmom – my dad was 64 at the time and his idea of excercise is to walk from the house to the car. I was also mad at him because I was worried and I basically took the lead in the group to scout the place and tell him where to place his feet LOL It was the worst hike, ever.

    • KK2 says:

I think she looks cute overall, but yea, the boots are weird to me because those are not hiking boots. Same looks with lace up hiking boots and ponytail would have been perfection. I know the vest is definitely more “theme dressing,” but it’s cute and different from the same crap she always wears so I’ll give her that.

    • Locke Lamora says:

Also, isn’t she hot in boots and a leather vest?

    • lala says:

I hike a lot. I have been twice to Nepal, one of which just few months ago, so I quite well know what it is being up in Himalayas. No way you go on a hike which lasts longer than 2 or 3 hours wearing the outfit Kate did today. Breeze or no breeze you will sweat in a leather jacket and knee high boots. Besides that there are certain reason why hiking boots are recommended on the trails like that. One of them is that they have a special sole called Vibram that prevents you from having difficulties with the terrain. Moreover, there are so many great outdoor brands out there who produce clothes for hiking which looks just amazing and fashionable but also 100% functional for the activities like hiking. DM claims Kate broke no sweat since she is fit. You know guys, I used to be a professional alpine ski racer, and I still train a lot in gym and outside. And I can tell you that even the fittest person in the would would break out a sweat after an hour of a moderate physical activity. Especially at that altitude where you need twice as more power and energy than while hiking in Scotland for a example. It just feels so set up the whole hiking story. And Kate just proves it once again how little knowledge she has about common things and how poor she is prepared for her engagement.

      • MinnFinn says:

I have also done 2 treks in the Nepalese Himalaya. Highest altitude I reached was about 13,000 feet on the trail to Everest Base Camp. I agree with everything you’ve said. For those who haven’t been in the Himalaya, it is hiking rocky terrain and steep rocky steps with intermittent short stretches of relatively flat terrain.

Here’s an incredible photo from Trip Advisor of the final stretch to Tiger’s Nest.

        https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g321541-d581056-Reviews-Taktsang_Palphug_Monastery-Paro_Paro_District.html#photos;geo=321541&detail=581056&ff=182821969&albumViewMode=hero&albumid=101&baseMediaId=182821969&thumbnailMinWidth=50&cnt=30&offset=-1&filter=2

      • Vava says:

Absolutely, lala. You are correct. This story is flawed. If the press pack didn’t see Kate at least glowing, it’s because her makeup team was there to touch her up before they saw her. Also, not dressing appropriately for the task at hand is something Kate does quite often. She’s well known for theme dressing, but this time she got mixed up on just what exactly the theme was. It was hiking, not being Robin Hood.

I hiked (bushwacked) during my entire career in the woods of the Cascades here in Oregon, and I hike a lot for pleasure now on trails – if I saw this chick out on a trail like this one, I’d just chuckle because those boots are absolutely RIDICULOUS. Shows how ignorant and vain she truly is.

      • lala says:

Vava, I would chuckle too 😉 lol
But theme dressing is good and fun while celebrating a whatever in the Middleton castle where Michael Midd wears his famous sumo suit, yet being on an official tour and practicing your skills of a film dresser is at least weird I guess. Just cannot understand how someone can have so little feeling for such simple things.

      • Lucrezia says:

If you exercise regularly you actually break into a sweat a lot sooner than someone who doesn’t exercise. The slightest exertion and your body thinks “Ah, she’s exercising again, I’d better start the cooling systems”. Meanwhile an unfit person’s body is thinking “What fresh hell is this? Why is my heart beating so rapidly? Are we having a heart attack? What is going on? Is it getting hot in here? Can we stop for a drink? Pleeeeaase? Oh. Right. Turn on cooling systems.”

I’m being flippant but it’s true.

      • Magnoliarose says:

Thank you. Impossible. It just is.

    • Jib says:

I noticed that too. Her first comment on such a hike was working off the food.

For the first time on this trip, she looks great IMO. She also looks happy and relaxed. Yeah, I would hate my long hair down on a hike, but if it doesn’t bother her, who cares.
Outfits aside, the place looks amazing. Unfortunately I don’t think I can ever make it there (chronic health condition which severely limits the places I can go to safely), but I sure would love Bhutan from what I see. Sigh.

  16. Canadian Becks says:

So far, I still don’t know the reason they are on this tour. I really don’t- no snark.

Are they drawing attention to some charitable cause? Or educating people about a concern that affects people’s lives? Coming out of this tour, it would be wonderful for some initiative that strives to improve something other than their own very privileged life.

They tour, and sight-see, are afforded face-to-face meetings with officials, get front of the line access to wild-life (a big thrill for anyone), but do they come away with something useful or educational to impart to the world?

If nothing useful comes of all this, then yes, it does seem like a free vacation. Even when we ordinary citizens win a free vacation, we still have to deal with packing, arranging travel insurance, booking time off, arranging for the pet sitter, etc…..They don’t do so much as even lug one piece of bag.

In the developed first world, we supposedly live in an equal society; why then are some people so WILDLY more *equal* than others?

    • Vava says:

Well, I’m not sure I’d consider visiting the slums in India a vacation. But certain aspects of this trip seem very much like a vacation! I’d love to go to Bhutan and parts of India. I’d probably come home with a trunk full of glorious fabric and gemstones.

They look good. Kate’s hair stylist and makeup person where on the hike too, so I think she had a touch up before the photos were taken. William’s underwear situation is ridiculous. I think his shoes are more appropriate for hiking than her boots were. He should be wearing a hat, though.

      • LAK says:

The inability to detour to a shopping excursion or even to have a proper look at all the sites and explore is the only disadvantage to these tours.

That said, they aren’t curious, so unless it’s branded goods, and enforced official scheduled stops, they probably don’t miss much.

And it’s curious that much of this seems influenced by others eg

        1. Conservation park – Camilla ( her beloved dead brother did alot of work with this park and WK were accompanied by representatives of the charity organisation he set up. Ditto those painted elephants)

        2. Slum kids – Harry and his various tours

        3. Govt officials/monuments – British govt, but that is expected and a given for their status.

        4. Monastry – Charles

        5. Bollywood – Charles, surprisingly. His charity organised that.

      • mp says:

visiting slums is a vacation to rich people! Like the song by Pulp ‘Common People.’ Makes me think of the book Shantaram and just how some people can romanticize poverty. until they actually live it.

    • The Original Mia says:

This was just another vacation disguised (not very well) as a tour. I’m sure some will say the purpose was to strengthen ties but these lightweights are not the ones to do it.

      • Chrissy says:

I can just imagine these two in the meeting about saving the steel jobs in the UK. Why would anyone think these two dolts know, or care, about pleb jobs and sent them to negotiate anything?
Also, 500 pounds for a vest? Good to know that taxpayer money is being well spent on these two undeserving lay-abouts.

  17. cindyp says:

    That hair is just ridiculous

    • SamiHami says:

Her hair looks great in these pics. What’s “ridiculous” about it?

      • Tess says:

What’s ridiculous is that she wore it in the sausage curls for a multi hour hike. Any thinking, logical person would have put theirs up, but she does it purely for vanity. Then again, this “tour” is nothing more than a vacation.

      • Maum says:

She had he hairdresser and stylist treck with her to fix her hair for the pictures. Apparently they had an issue with the press being there at all and there was a bit of an argument between the media and Kensington Palace until it was resolved by the Press being allowed photo ops at the beginning and the end of the treck.

Plenty of time for a quick blow dry to make sure she was photo ready.

      • Betti says:

@Maum – now that’s the Waity we know, having touch ups done while hiking in the baking sun for 3 hours.

      • wolfpup says:

Their effort to control the media has not been working out for them. The DM gave them the lead header only once this week – when they met the King and Queen of Bhutan. Kate seemed happiest when around her own kind (royalty). I can’t see what Will and Kate are attempting to accomplish – perhaps a nice coffee table book of their exploits, without them ever breaking a sweat: which translates, “Entitled”. Trouble is, Kate doesn’t dress or have appropriate mannerisms, so she remains an outsider of the truly regal.

      • cindyp says:

Wearing her hair in sausage curls for a hike is ridiculous. She is such a child.

      • hmmm says:

Yes, and the entire tour is an exercise in vanity- The 2016 Cambridge Vanity Tour.

      • snapdragon says:

SamiHami – something tells me you’ve never done any high elevation hiking if you don’t see what’s ridiculous about it . . .

  18. The Original Mia says:

Riding boots for a hike? Really? More like boots for riding one of the King’s horses that accompanied them on the hike. There’s no way she could do that hike without sweating her arm pits or her hair. Come on!

She looks good. Probably the best she’s looked in a long time, but no to the boots.

    • Azurea says:

Those aren’t real riding boots, the toe/sole/heel are too big for that. They’re fashion boots with a riding boot style.

      • manda says:

Which I think are sort of funny looking. I love me some boots, and I really like the top part of the shaft of those, but the actual boot/shoe part reminds me of a timberland or a construction boot. Maybe it was the sole of the boot that made her think they were hikers.

      • Malificent says:

The soles look reasonably sturdy, but no ankle support and probably not much arch support. Even if it’s a smooth path, I can’t think that they would be comfortable for a long walk on an incline.

      • Liberty says:

They’re ten years old, per the article, so that was maybe a look at that time. I like the upper shaft.

    • Chibichchai says:

Let’s be real here. No one looks photo ready like that after a 3 hour hike. I hike and I look at the least flushed after a good hike. She had hair and makeup there to fix her up before photos were taken. She probably was resting for a while too so she wasn’t seen as panting if she needed to catch her breath. I do believe she’s sporty and works out but there is a difference between a treadmill workout and an actual outdoor incline.

      • Chrissy says:

She/ they probably changed her top too what with wearing a leather vest over it.

      • Vava says:

And, they were at 10,000 feet. Kate was feeling it, I’m sure.

      • LAK says:

That’s what she did in the dating years.

Prior to exiting the clubs, she would fix hair/ make up before exiting front door of club to be photographed by the paps.

      • Poisonous Lookalike says:

        Exactly.

And if anyone here thinks she was joking about “burning off the curry,” I have a bridge to sell you…

      • Polly says:

Who can blame her for not wanting to be photographed all red faced and sweaty. I’d be getting hair my makeup redone too if my photos were going to be seen worldwide and picked to pieces.

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

Hmm. Smooth soled boots are recommended for stirrups, aren’t they? These are heavily lug-soled.
I guess that just means she probably completed a full costume ( including footwear) change after dismounting.

      • Hudson Girl says:

She could trail ride in those boots just fine. I’ve gone for trail rides in sneakers, etc. Not the same as trying to handle a gallop or trot with any skill.

  19. KJB says:

Huh. I’m loving her outfit and her hair doesn’t bother me at all in these shots. I also have long hair and, like another poster mentioned, when I’m active it just falls down and becomes a nuisance. I love the jacket…wish it wasn’t so damn expensive, though.

  20. Lainey says:

How was she not sweltering in that? My feet would be torn off me if I went hiking in those boots. But then I’m not in the least bit athletic.

    • lala says:

it has nothing to do with being athletic or fit

      • ABC says:

I read elsewhere that Botox prevents you from sweating and goodness knows she’s had a fair bit of work done, her forehead hasn’t moved once – you can see her muscles fighting it in the archery shots. So yeah, it’s easy not to sweat when you physically can’t because you’ve injected yourself with so much poison for the pap shots..

  21. jh says:

all i want to say to her is “Dr. Livingstone, I presume?”

She looks like a 19th century colonialist! Maybe it’s because I lived in Colorado and hiked a lot but her outfit is bugging me. NOBODY dresses like that! It’s theme dressing at its worst. Why the vest?? WHY THE VEST? I feel pathetic because this made me mad this morning. Ugh, maybe I need more coffee. Sorry guys.

  22. Betti says:

I kinda like it, boots and all but THIS outfit would have been perfect for the Safari, it has that safari feel to it more than what she did wear.

As i said in the other thread – her Buhtan fashion game is on, guess it only took being compared to Queen Jetsun to spark the well known competitive streak in her.

Willy is another one in desperate need of a professional stylist.

  23. manta says:

Don’t see the problem with her outfit or her hair. I usually tie mine when I run or hike but she seems fine. Funny but my focus was rather on him: a fair skin, bald guy walked 3 hours under the sun, in altitude, without a cap and she’s the one who draws the critics because her hair is down? One may be ridiculous, but the other just seems reckless.

  24. Citresse says:

DM said Kate didn’t sweat. Just wait a few more years hon

    • Janis says:

Botox injections in the pits? I wouldn’t be surprised by anything she does for vanity reasons really.

    • Vava says:

That’s because the press didn’t see her staff give her touch ups before the photo op.

  25. ClaireB says:

Something has been bugging me for the last few days, but this is the worst example: Is she really wearing enormous leather boots and a leather vest for a hike in a Buddhist country up to a Buddhist monastery? To them, that’s people-skin you’re wearing, Duchess. You’d think with all the cultural sensitivity information available and all their money, she could have gone shopping for some nice man-made boots and clothes.

I’m sure regular tourists wear their leather stuff, but she’s got enough money and advisors to have got new.

All right, it’s off my chest now. She’s such a screw-up, either through stupidity or disinterest, that I’m tired of criticizing her on this tour.

    • Caela says:

Apparently they are made from ‘Spanish vegetable-dyed leather’ so maybe not real leather??

      • bluhare says:

The dye is vegetable based. The leather is leather.

      • Caela says:

Lol thanks I really have no idea about these things…I thought maybe it meant they made them out of veg *hangs head in shame*

I’ve always wanted to visit Bhutan but never been able to afford it so I’m sick with jealously following this tour!

I know what you mean ClaireB I should stop clicking on the posts because it’s so frustrating that they/she can’t seem to get even the basics right….

    • Bridget says:

Dunno about the boots, but the vest is described as nubuck, which I thought was a leather substitute?

    • Melly says:

THANK YOU! This is just basic stuff.

    • Jib says:

I have an awesome pair of “vegan” boots! They look just like leather. Good point about some cultural sensitivy when visiting a Buddhist monastery.

    • CeeCee says:

That’s what I was wondering, too!

  26. Citresse says:

Skinny jeans are not a good look for them especially William.
I for one do not want a reminder of the royal package. Say what you will about Charles but at least he dressed with class and style.

  27. Murphy says:

Not just any old boots–they are RIDING boots.
And the King sent along horses incase anyone needed them.
And the press wasn’t allowed access for a good chunk of the “hike”
And at the top of the mountain, Kate looked flawless and cool while William was sweating his a$$ off.
    Hmmmmmmm

    • Citresse says:

I thought they looked like motorcycle boots. Then add the (patchless) vest and she’s biker chick.

    • SilkyMalice says:

Phtt. Those are fashion boots, not real riding boots. I’m guessing we will never see her real hiking outfit or sweat since she almost certainly changed clothes (and had her hair and makeup done) for the photo ops after they reached the top.

  28. NotSoSocialButterfly says:

I still think he looks like a whiney version of Wallace, and more so each day: http://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/t_original/kc4wo5j9vtpmttlrhvfa.jpg

  29. MinnFinn says:

Daily Mail says KP officials prevented media from accompanying them on the last half of the hike which was contrary to what Bhutanese officials told the press. KP’s designated photographer, Chris Jackson who is dating Tash, must have been their designated photog.
    http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/04/15/12/3335635A00000578-3541233-image-m-108_1460718564863.jpg

  30. anne_000 says:

The DM article from the link reports that KP blocked reporters and photographers from accompanying W&K on the final half of the hike to the temple, even though the King of Bhutan said he was fine with the media going all the way to the temple with W&K. KP said that W&K wanted private time.

Richard Palmer tweeted that the media was only at the bottom and the half-way point and none in the hour trek in-between.

Private time means private vacation. Unless this trip was privately paid for by W&K and not in any way by the taxpayers of either countries, then this hike is part of official work duties and no part of it should have been banned from the media. Each host country pays in some part for them to be there in order to publicize their countries in terms of tourism and business relations, not to give them publicly-paid for private vacations.

    • Betti says:

Didn’t know about this. It was purely a vanity thing – didn’t want the press taking photo’s of her getting her hair and make up retouched doing the hike. Palmer makes reference to it on his twitter account.

Again they have demonstrated that they are the special snowflakes, even if their host (who is a King) said it was fine. Sheesh – talk about throwing away all the good will they may have gotten from the press from the tour. They need to be sweet with the press.

And yes am sure the Chris Jackson got preferential treatment.

      • anne_000 says:

I read a theory on another site that since the King had horses or whatever accompany W&K on this hike, those parts of the trip banned from the media might have involved her or them riding on the animals.

There are also photos of her stylist, hairdresser, and assistant to her PA (iirc) on this hike with them. All of these women wear also wearing skin-tight pants with hair down too, just like their Queen Bee.

      • Betti says:

@Anne i wouldn’t be surprised if they did get up the hill with a little help and they knew it and dressed accordingly. Whats certain is that there was a bit of a ‘to do’ with their PR and the accompanying press pack. Apparently the King didn’t mind the press following them for the entire hike, it was W&K that had the problem with that.

It was all going so well.

      • Liberty says:

@anne_000 I am hooting at the mental image of her beauty bees tripping along in Dynasty bouffants and pumps, up into the mountains, to brush her hair. Oh god.

(Wait! Actually — I see a total AbFab “Edina and Patsy Go Hiking” thing in my mind’s eye!)

    • Murphy says:

I love how the King wants to do the right thing and Whiny William is just like “No. We do not do the right thing. That’s just not our style”

      • anne_000 says:

I agree. The last three Kings of Bhutan (including this one) have been trying to open up the country more to the Western world and be more inclusive with the rest of the world in general. So of course this King wants the media to go with W&K, and the latter should have obliged as they’re paid-for guests in order to show respect, gratitude, and some diplomatic tact. But for them, what they want is the only important thing in the universe, regardless.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t they get a free stay at a Maldive resort which newly opened but didn’t advertise that they were there though it was contrary to what the resort operators wanted in terms of publicity? So the resort leaked it out themselves so that they could get something in return?

It seems to me W&K believe that all should be given to them with no expectations that they should reciprocate in return in at least an equal amount.

  31. lila fowler says:

Those boots are ugly. And I don’t get what is going on with her hair and why she insists on those curls. She’s not the prettiest woman in the world but she would look a lot better with a fresh, modern hairstyle.

    • anne_000 says:

She’s forever trying to give the look of a young 20-something from back in the early 2000s. She’s not known to differ much from that image. She got her hooks into William with that look and she’ll forever be Baby Jane if she thinks that’ll keep him with her.

  32. Betti says:

Has anyone seen Richard Palmers tweet about the hike where he’s compared photos of William and Chuck – they are even wearing similar outfits.

    https://twitter.com/Express_Pics/status/720886912882331648

He also makes a comment about her having a ‘quick touch up’ stop before the staged shots and that Willy was sweating and she wasn’t. But in her defence, given that she’s a massive gym bunny she’s clearly very physically fit.

  33. Citresse says:

Didn’t the press release say it was a six hour hike??? All this false advertising with Waity and Wallace because the product doesn’t sell itself 😉

    • anne_000 says:

One of the DM reporters tweeted that it was only a 46-minute hike from the bottom to the half-way point.

      • JoyBells says:

The header picture is taken at the halfway point. The last picture in the article is the starting point. It easily takes 1 and half hour to reach the halfway point from base. And from halfway to the monastry another hour and half. Im not very athletic so it took me complete 3 hours for the hike…but i took rests in between. 🙂
My fren walked ahead and claims she took only about 2 hours and waited for me over an hour.
I guess depending on your speed it takes between 2-3 hours on foot. (There were donkeys/horses available if you wanted to ride.)
But there is no way for first timers on the trail can complete the hike in less than 2 hoursm

      • anne_000 says:

Yeah, the timing seems odd, doesn’t it.

There’s a theory that maybe they took horses or whatever riding animal at some point. Since the KP banned the media from following them between the base and the half-way point as well as from the half-way point to the temple and back to the half-way point, as well as reporters saying there’s no sign of sweat or exertion on Kate, and that it only took them 46 minutes to get from the base to the half-way point, it seems like these are the factors that add to this theory.

    • Betti says:

It’s been reported it was 3 hours either way but who knows. This hiking trip has certainly created some sort of drama between them and the press.

  34. mellie says:

I’d keep those boots for a decade too, they are awesome. I like the whole look.

  35. cannibell says:

I want a pair of boots like that. Also, I want to take that hike.

  36. Cee says:

I seriously doubt they hiked for thar long and that far. Their footwear alone is ridiculous for a “strenous” hike. They might have taken a stroll down the easy track, but there is no way they hiked.

I once ended accidentaly hiking in the Czech Republic while I was weaing skinny jeans and it was the WORST, especially when you have to cover long distances in once step. I managed to go down the mountain due to my footwear and a lot of small jumping to avoid hurting myself.

I call BS on this photo op.

    • anne_000 says:

Yeah, those $700 boots don’t seem like they were made for hours-long hiking (and I don’t know why she needed a $700 vest too).

The DM article link states that there was a group from San Francisco on the hike who asked W&K to take a photo with them, but the latter laughed and refused. Also, the media was banned except at the bottom and the half-way point. Nothing in between and no media from the half-way point to the temple and back.

I don’t know why W&K want so much secrecy and no photographic evidence of their hike even though William told reporters that he’s going to rub it in with this father that the latter couldn’t make the full hike himself (because of a polo injury).

      • Cee says:

I find no fault in having a team helping you along and giving her make up and hair retouches, especially if the press is there. But don’t front it as if you hiked all the way up in steep conditions while wearing ill-suited clothes and foot wear. It’s reckless and stupid, especially for those who actually hike or did so at least once.

My bet is they used the horses the King of B offered. But they have to keep polishing the idea of the athletic, healthy, young couple, so keen on everything they manage to do the unbelievable without the essentials.

      • anne_000 says:

It’s so self-serving of W&K to have the stylist and hairdresser go with them to look good for the cameras and publicize themselves, but then ban the media from seeing them for much of the hike, especially as the King of Bhutan wanted the media to follow them all the way to the temple and back, as he and his two predecessors have been trying for decades to get more publicity for their country.

      • hmmm says:

        anne_000
Heaven forfend! Thia trip wasn’t about publicising Bhutan, it was about publicising themselves against a gorgeous backdrop. They exploit slumdwellers and royals alike.

    • Vava says:

Don’t the photographers have high powered lenses? Couldn’t they see them on the trek to the monastery?? It’s visible from that halfway point, right?

  37. VIVIEN says:

I always loved those boots. One of Kate’s best looks of this Tour, for sure.

  38. AlmondJoy says:

This is definitely one of her better looks! Very cute

  39. zappy says:

    couple on vacayyy …
maybe I am too picky but i dont like the way her hand on her hip when they talk with the monk. for me, it show disrespect. maybe because I am from asia ..

    • dawnchild says:

I’m with you. I would feel weird putting my hands on my hips talking to someone like a monk. I think the Western equivalent is having your hands in your pockets which is considered disrespectful?

    • Tough Cookie says:

It’s weird to see her hands on her hips and not clutching her crotch

    • marjiscott says:

I saw that too. I felt the same way. Her body lanquage seems disrepectful, confrontational for meeting a holy man. Strange.

  40. Darlene says:

I love the boots. I have boots I’ve worn for about that long and I’ve gotten them re-soled, so they’re walking like new. <3 I love that she loves them so much she has kept them all these years when certainly she could have new ones.

  41. Nikayna says:

To be fair – isn’t the point of nearly every monarchy nowadays (especially the European ones) tourism? Getting people to come to your country and spend their money to look at your castles and artifacts and history and what not? So this kind of a tour for a modern monarchy makes sense to me.

    • anne_000 says:

Except W&K & the KP banned the media from the hike except from the bottom area and the half-way point. If the point is to promote tourism, then W&K should have allowed the media to follow them all the way through and back, especially as the King of Bhutan said he was happy for the media to do so. And especially since W&K are being comped to be there.

    • Sisi says:

idk about other countries, but the states visits of the Dutch royals are often business oriented instead of touristy, to support international relations for Dutch businesses who travel along. Aside from a banquet & wreath laying here and there, they usually just have meetings. Never have I seen pictures of them like these here.

Back when the king and queen were only in line to the throne they both worked with the UN in the subjects they are most knowlegable in, often focussing on area’s that are struggling in the world (watermanagement & sanitation for him, financing for small businesses, emancipation & integration for her). So there is some substance there.

imo tourists don’t care if a palace is still in use or not, they will come to look at it anyway. Royals are useless for that.

Im not a super fan of the royals, but the netherlands is a tiny speck of a country with little to say internationally, and it probably helps that outside of the borders we are represented by a familiar face who’s already connected and who won’t be changed to somebody no-one knows or cares about every 4 years.
We have a guy for that too though.

  42. KiddVicious says:

I like her outfit. Not sure if it’s appropriate, but it looks good on her. Isn’t Kate afraid of horses? Doesn’t ride well, or something? Maybe that’s why they didn’t want photogs on that part of the hike. I can imagine the photos coming out had she fallen off her horse.

I like that they’re showing a bit of PDA, they need to do that more often.

    • anne_000 says:

Some years ago, someone told the media that Kate told her that she’s allergic to horses. I don’t know if this allergy is real or not, but if they rode horses or another animal on the parts of the hike where the media was banned (which was most of the hike), then no wonder they banned the media as they didn’t want to show that they didn’t hike the whole thing.

    • Tough Cookie says:

there have been photo ops of her at polo matches so maybe she’s only “allergic” to peasant horses..

  43. hmmm says:

Dolittle looks like a fashion plate, not a hiker. Why not hiking boots, for example? And not a hair out of place, no sweat either. Must be that miraculous Bhutan air. No hats or caps. I wonder how much they really ‘hiked’. The King did send horses with them. Then a dustup with the British media asking for privacy- on a public trip. Loathsome.

Oh, and the PDA. Lots of PDA. A foreshadowing of the Taj Mahal. Get your vomit bags/insulin shots ready.

    • Citresse says:

      LOL

    • Tough Cookie says:

what’s left on the Duchess Fashion Bingo card? We’ve seen the royal biscuit, nude heels, wedges, sausage curls, back molars, boob flaps, ….

    • marjiscott says:

I know those “assistants/make-up” girls were there for Kate, but they couldn’t dab William’s sweat off with at least a kleenex?

  44. potatopie says:

Did I miss the Taj photo shoot? Did they forgo that since the scaffolding couldn’t be removed? haha.

  45. qtpi says:

Daily Mail reports that the press was not allowed to continue all the way to the top with them. I think that is utter BS. Not only are the Brits PAYING for this vacation but it would have been lovely for Bhutan to have the publicity of the pics at the top. More selfishness. Step aside Will if you aren’t up for it. And Waity – you knew exactly what you were signing up for.

No wonder the British Press is up in arms over these two.

From the HuffPo, the headline reads, “Duchess Goes to Bhutan and Finds Her True Calling – and I have to agree with their assessment, after she worked with the HP on her mental health initiative.

The story reads, “Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge has fiercely and impressively committed herself to raising awareness and campaigning for children’s mental health. Oh, and also to being a duchess.

But after seeing these photos of the royal formerly known as Kate Middleton on day five of her royal tour to India and Bhutan, we’re kind of convinced she should give that all up and become a professional archer”.

Those boots are to die for. I’d keep forever if I had them too.

  48. Mandy says:

I always love when the media freaks out over celebrities wearing an outfit more than once. What are they supposed to do? Just throw them away after one wear? Kate recycling old outfits is one of the things I like about her.

As for wearing skinny jeans and boots while hiking, I do the same thing and live in Utah in high altitude and where my hikes are usually in the hot desert. I can easily climb up big boulders or go down slick, sandy trails. My jeans are stretchy and I’m really flexible so I don’t feel constrained. Plus there are ticks, snakes, mosquitos, spiders, scorpions etc.. and I’d way rather have my legs and feet protected by tight jeans and boots than not. I don’t sweat on my thighs or feet, though. If I did, it would probably suck but I’d still do it.

I’m sure if she wore anything showing her legs, people would freak out over that too. Or if she wore sneakers or any kind of athletic wear. Or had her hair up in a sweaty ponytail. Geesh. Look at the uproar she causes when the wind blows her dress and we can see her knees.

    • Who ARE these people? says:

Um, it was a lot more than her knees.

    • anne_000 says:

What on this trip is she going to recycle? Her thousands of dollars of ‘ethnic’ outfits and jewelry?

She’s already showed thigh, butt, stomach, and cleavage on this trip as well as having her hair down and flying around wild in the wind. It would be nice if she dressed appropriately for each event and didn’t raise suspicions of ulterior motives.

      • Liberty says:

If McQueen were still alive, perhaps he would have designed her a special wardrobe with skirts already drawn up to the naval in front, and cheek bottom in back.

They can save the outfits for a future lovely exhibition of her style. Glam & Gormless: The Kitty Years.

        @Liberty……………….LOL.

        PERFECTION.

  50. JoyBells says:

I have been to this monastry “Taktsang” and lemme tell you every 3 hours of that uphill hike is worth it. The scenery is beautiful on your way up. And just when you reach on top a hill (where Will and Kate is giving the butt pose),there is a narrow path/staircase which drops down and then rises again leading to the monastry all along the steep mountain side.People who are afraid of heights……haha. And if you ever go to Bhutan for a vacation, don’t miss this place.

Kate looks like she enjoyed the trip. Also the hike trail isnt very difficult (there are unpaved but wide rural roads along the middle) and she would have no trouble walking in those boots (for people who are wondering) and besides if she’s had those boots for years, its probably broken in well. And Paro must be cool enough for those skinny jeans too.
This entire trip looks fun and they seem to be having a great time. If they come back in future,i hope they bring Prince George and Princess Charlotte and give us some adorable photo moments with Bhutan King’s and Queen’s little prince. All adorable babies together. 🙂

    • Vava says:

Well this does look like fun. Why did they restrict the press for the final leg? They are there on the taxpayer’s coin and they were BONEHEADED.

      These two are tone deaf.

  51. MrsK says:

I have no doubt that Her Majesty the Queen wears even older boots and older trousers when engaging in active sports. I know I do, too. Perfectly understandable that someone would choose tried-and-tested clothes when they’re headed out on a strenuous hike.

Kate’s boots are cute and they look like a very sensible choice for a day of walking.

How can she spend a whole day in the sun with all that hair on her neck? I’m sweating just from looking at her. Today would have been a day for a pony tail.

I still think she looks more and more cheerful the further she gets from her mother. I have a feeling that in private, her mother finds (unwarranted) fault with her constantly in her (Mom’s) insane quest to keep William happy.

  52. Kate Bush says:

I love her casual looks . Love the boots and the vest thingy. I would almost go as far as to say this is the best she’s ever looked.
I too would wear my hair up for a walk but maybe it just doesn’t bother her

    • Vava says:

Her sporty side is definitely her strong point. The “Charlie Angel’s” hair, the boots, the leather vest – it’s all completely staged. I’d like to see her in actual clothing appropriate for the hike and schlepping her own water bottle.

Note to Kate: There is nothing wrong with ‘glimmering’ or feeling the altitude. Those of us who do this sort of hiking can relate. (We’re not going to have our make-up artist with us, though.)

  53. TyrantDestroyed says:

She looks like Brendan Fraser in The Mummy. Why it all has to be thematic with her styling?
Kate never seems to over perspire when is in hot and humid weather, I wish I was that lucky.

  54. Liberty says:

Channel 4 is starting a television parody called The Windsors…will these trips be a plot line, so we can find out what they are for

    Hugh Skinner as William:

  55. what's inside says:

I think she looks very relaxed and they both look happy. Fashion on a hike be damned.

  56. Tough Cookie says:

at first I read “cluckiest” as “clutchiest” LOL

  57. Hazel says:

I think it’s interesting that when the trip itinerary was first published, this was described as a six hour hike. Now they’re telling us it was three hours. And going by all the comments, I’d say there’s something dodgy about all this. Apparently they didn’t do the full hike we plebs would do. And did anybody watch the video of their post-hike comments? I get so irritated with Kate letting William do all the talking. It’s the 21st century, woman! Tell people what you think!

  58. Karyn says:

Mmm I’m going on a hike. Let me see….will I pack my leather waistcoat and my big leather boots and curl my hair? What weird choices this woman makes. She lives in a parallel universe of theme dressing parties and is uber aware of the press. Wants to be treated like a ‘normal’ person and then pulls out a Hans Solo ( or puss in boots) instead of just dressing like a normal person out for a big walk in a beautiful location.
