Stana Katic is leaving ‘Castle’ because she & Nathan Fillion hate each other

Hot on the heels of Nicole Beharie’s sudden exit from Sleepy Hollow – an exit that should not have surprised anyone, considering her vocal displeasure over the years – comes another high profile “split.” Stana Katic is leaving the long-running ABC drama Castle. Since I have a bizarre affection for police procedurals of varying quality, I’ll admit that I’ve pretty much seen every episode of Castle seasons 1-6. I like Nathan Fillion and I always thought he and Stana had a lot of chemistry together, although there were always rumors that they hated each other from the very beginning of the show, and that Fillion was sort of a diva about screen-time. Now that Stana is suddenly leaving, those rumors have cropped up again.

There’s a major change underway on ABC’s Castle. Leading lady Stana Katic and fellow original star Tamala Jones are exiting the ABC procedural, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Meanwhile, the network and producers ABC Studios are in talks with lead Nathan Fillion to return for a potential ninth final season. While the drama has not yet been renewed for a ninth season, producers are considering multiple avenues to shake up the aging procedural and renew the series for a ninth season.

“Kate Beckett has been a beloved character on our hit series Castle for the past eight years. We are grateful for Stana Katic’s talent and dedication to the series and we hope to continue our relationship,” ABC said in a statement. “Tamala Jones has also been an integral part of the series and we are grateful she was a part of Castle.”

News that Katic would exit the drama ahead of season nine should come as little surprise. Sources tell THR that the actress, who negotiated a last-minute return for season eight, has been unhappy on the series and has had repeated clashes with lead Fillion. That led producers to split up the on-screen couple this season — drawing the ire of dedicated fans who had been waiting eight years for the couple to marry. Insiders stress that it was ABC and ABC Studios’ decision to let Katic and Jones exit the series as they look for avenues to reduce costs on the pricey drama and return it for a ninth season.

[From THR]

THR goes on to say that ABC is looking to do more police procedurals like Castle, and that ABC is starting to get a bit wary of focusing so much on the “prime time soap opera” shows. As in, they’re looking to move beyond the Shonda Rhimes model of prime time programming, which is a development just as interesting as the Stana-Nathan beef. As I said, I love a good police procedural, and one of my saddest days as a TV viewer was when NBC dragged the corpse of Law & Order out into the woods and buried it. I do think that the world needs more police procedurals, damn it! And not of the CSI-variety.

As for the Stana-Nathan beef… I want to believe Nathan Fillion is a good guy, but the stories about the on-set drama over the years have made me wonder about him.

This is so terrible. Hard to see how it will continue without one of the main players. And Lainie too. Bummer.

    • Locke Lamora says:

I love both of them. I hope this isn’t true.

    • Samtha says:

They need to just give them a happy ending and end it this season. The whole point and appeal of the show was the interaction between the two of them.

      So disappointing.

      • nicole says:

I was hoping they might have a baby, but doesnt look like it now. Dont think I would watch it without stana, she was my favourite charecter, loved her personality and style. Maybe since she got married recently she wants to start a family, who knows, know for one thing I wont bother watching series 9 if she is gone.

      • Kelly says:

It would be fun to see Castle totally lose over a pregnancy and a baby. Too bad.

  2. Hottunasandwich says:

I’ve liked him since he was captain of a spaceship and I know he’s aging BUT he has drunk bloat. I wonder if that’s part of the problem?

    • Bridget says:

Dunno, but he’s already slimmed down quite a bit.

    • Hudson Girl says:

He had a debilitating back injury that the show had to shoot around- it may have made him chub up a bit?

As for Fillion’s character, he is very close with the other actors/crew and hang with them off set. Fans that meet him talk about how sweet, silly, and willing to geek out he is.

Stana is very shy and reserved in real life, but, it is very odd that he who everyone adores can not get along with her? (If the rumors are true)

So, I’m thinking either they once hooked up and things went South.
Or she did something he didn’t appreciate with the filming/network- the show IS called Castle after all.

      • Erinn says:

        http://www.celebitchy.com/333040/nathan_fillion_threw_the_ultimate_diva_meltdown_over_screen_time_on_castle/

Just as an example – and that article lists other alleged tantrums. So who knows. I think Fillion – at the very least – is a man who knows how to market himself to the people who love him.

      • RocketMerry says:

Just because of Firefly, I will forever love Nathan. I never really liked Stana anyways, so news of them two not getting along doesn’t disturb me. I also believe that not everybody has to be friends… it’s impossible afterall, sometimes people just rub each other the wrong way. And after nine years of working with somebody you don’t especially love, I would leave too; doesn’t mean that either of them are bad people!
Also, about the diva rumors… I think everybody has some situations when they can be testy; frankly it would be weird if an actor did not have the occasional diva moment (as long as it’s not a habit, you know).

    • Carol says:

I had a friend who worked on the show and she said that Nathan and Stana HATED each other from almost the very beginning. I don’t remember why though. And I may be the only one here, but I never liked any Shonda Rhimes shows (to be fair, I haven’t seen the Viola Davis show yet).

      • Sarah says:

I never watched the show since it’s not really my type, but even from afar I’m aware of the niche fan-base or “shipping” fans have for Fillion & Katic..
I actually can’t stand SVU anymore, and have never liked CSI, NCIS, Chicago Fire, type shows.. I think they’re way too straight forward, not creative or original, and just have no artistic visual elements to keep me interested.

      • Annetommy says:

SVU never recovered from the loss of Chris Meloni IMO. Classic Olivia / Elliot SVU, early and mid series L&O, and Goren and Eames Criminal Intent are great shows. I watched Castle occasionally, but was never invested. Always thought she was very pretty.

  3. InvaderTak says:

Does Agent Carter have a sister? Stana looks like she could be it. Someone pointed that out to me and now it’s all I can see. As for the gossip, eh. It’s time to move on from Castle. It was cute in the beginning but it’s worn thin now. I don’t think it’s an indictment of either that they don’t get along; some people just don’t get along. They don’t have to be besties. And they stuck it out for 9 seasons and made a pretty good show so they have to tolerate each other to a degree.

  4. Original Kay says:

I couldn’t watch Castle because I just didn’t enjoy her character. Same with Bones? And Blacklist. Can’t stand the female leads.
As for Captain Mal Reynolds, I will forever love him. Also he played Hermes 😂

    • islandwalker says:

Same on 2 out of 3 on the female leads. Never got into Blacklist.

    • lucy2 says:

I didn’t like the one on the Blacklist. I didn’t care for Stana on Castle at first, I thought the role was very generic, but she grew on me and by the time I gave up on the show (it was too formulaic for me) I liked her.

    • anne_000 says:

I don’t like Liz from Blacklist either, but unfortunately her death might not be ‘real’ to the story arc of the show.

I don’t like the Bones lead female actor either. Way too bitchy and annoying.

I liked Kate from Castle though.

    • Timbuktu says:

I actually like Liz a lot for some reason. But yeah, Bones and Castle, I’m with you.

  5. Anon says:

I had never heard stories of him being a diva on set, I always got the impression he was down to earth. Someone fill me in!

    • vauvert says:

Same here. Where and when exactly are these rumours coming from? I have loved him since his Firefly days and he always seems to get along great with costars and is super gracious to fans. Last year (I think) he had a cute, funny online short with some of his Firefly costars that was a hoot. People who come together after a decade to do a spoof take of their old show clearly have no beef with one another.
Sorry but not buying the “he is a diva” story. From the sounds of it, given that Ryan and Esposito are out as well, I think it has to do with $$$, in which case I wish the show runners would just write a graceful ending.

    • dana says:

idk, but I have to admit that I side-eye him for being bff’s with someone as openly racist & misogynistic as Adam Baldwin.

  6. paleokifaru says:

So what specifically are the rumors? Wanting screen time doesn’t necessarily mean he’s a jerk.

  7. The Original Mia says:

They’ve had issues since the beginning. There were rumors she was a diva in the first season. But…Nathan can be a pill as well. The success has gotten to him. I love my Captain, but I’m realistic about him too. Don’t revoke my Firefly fan club membership. Still…they marketed the show based on their relationship and it doesn’t work/won’t work without her.

Don’t get me started on Shady Hollow. I’ve finally stopped ranting.

    • anne_000 says:

Awww. I liked Abby from SH, though she could get a little pushy, but that’s what was needed to get Crane motivated sometimes, imo. I dunno how they’re going to resolve the need for the 2nd Witness. I hope it’s not a character that comes off worse than Abby because Abby was the perfect fit, imo. This new story arc about Washington’s secret militia being part of a federal agency makes me think it’s not going to be as much fun though.

      • The Original Mia says:

I loved Abbie. Nicole Beharie was treated so badly and so shabbily by the producers & Fox that she finally got fed up and walked. That’s why it’s called Shady Hollow now. They can take their new story arc and shove it. I’m done with the show. It doesn’t work without Abbie.

      • Miss Melissa says:

Sleepy Hollow is probably donesville anyway. Killing Abbie should just kill the show.

    • Shoe_Lover says:

sorry to start you up again but i’m out of the loop. what happened behind the scenes of Sleepy Hollow?

  8. islandwalker says:

I don’t know about his reputation, I hope he’s not a diva. I always have trouble watching that show because she is just a terrible actress! She is so wooden and her speech pattern is so odd. While I like the show for a few seasons, it ran out of steam years ago. Time to put it to rest. He needs to go back into space.

    • Hazel says:

I felt that way about the Bones lead actress, odd speech pattern, as though she were reading her lines & pausing in odd places. And she never got better.
I loved Castle at first, stars & supporting actors, but it’s become a bit of a long slog lately. Time to hang it up.

  9. teacakes says:

Bummer. Nathan’s always been super sweet to fans and never embarrassed of his Firefly days but it’s a shame to know he and Stana don’t get along.

  10. Bridget says:

Nathan has always had a steller reputation as a pro who goes out of his way to treat his fans well. The rumor about these two is that they’ve never particularly gotten along, and it’s pretty clear which one of the two is the draw for the show. At this point I thought they’d last through to the end since they’d already made it this far. That said, I hope they don’t kill her, and to be honest I’ve only watched the show through occasional re-runs for the past several seasons.

There’s a long tradition of co-leads/romantic interests that can’t stand each other. People forget that Duchovny and Anderson disliked each other for years while they worked together. It’s hard to spend that much time with people.

    • H says:

Stephanie Zimbalist and Pierce Brosnan from Remington Steele also hated each other, as did Bruce Willis and Cybill Sheppard from Moonlighting. Both those couples acted together until the end of those shows which were super popular at the time (I’m showing my age here). Too bad Fillion and Stana couldn’t hold out.

      • InvaderTak says:

Heck, Natalie Wood and Richard Beymer in Wes Side Story; Could not stand each other.

      • Bridget says:

Castle has been on significantly longer than either Remington Steele or Moonlighting were – they’ve been on for 8 seasons, and at 20+ episodes a season for a network show, that’s almost 200 episodes. If these two have always disliked each other (which is what the rumors have been) that makes for a long 8 years. And with Castle, it’s sounded like they just clashed from the start.

      • Naya says:

The major conflict on both those shows was that although the ladies were promised equal footing, they were quickly sidelined for the guys. The men got better storylines, more screen time and dialogue that didnt make them look like humorless shrews. I can see that being the same problem with Castle.

The thing with these shows is that the audiences are mostly female, they want to “coo” over Pierce (Remington Steele) and Bruce (Moonlighting) and Nathan (Castle) and Ian (Vampire Diaries) and Tom (Sleepy Hollow). The showrunners and the writers are majority white male. Naturally the show slowly starts to centre around the guy and the female character becomes disposable. I think Chris Carter worked hard to keep Scully from following this path, under a different show runner, Gillian may have been pushed out to keep David happy.

      • Bridget says:

@Naya: I don’t necessarily think that Castle is an apples to apples comparison, because Fillion was always the draw on the show whereas I think they were hoping to see Katic be a breakout star. And Cybil Shepherd and Bruce Willis legitimately hated each other (another example, though not 2 co-leads: GIlmore Girls, where Luke & Lorelei really didn’t like each other. Or Cheers, where Shelly Long didn’t get along with anyone). 2 co-stars not getting along doesn’t instantly mean that one of them is a bad person, but with close quarters and long hours, I can see how it would be a miserable experience.

      • Naya says:

@Bridget. I didnt say that either he or any of these other examples were bad people. I said that the way the storyline developes on these types of shows invariably makes the female lead disposable.

Also, Cybill actually fought for an unknown Bruce to get the role and I think it is now well established that both have huge egos and both have had conflicts on other productions. Her problem was that she was initially the bigger star but almost immediately after the pilot she had to fight for funny lines. The writers established her character as the stuck up bitch and actually wrote David Madison dialogue in which he called her that to her face. David on the other hand was the roguish, spontaneous, funny guy. Her power on set diminished as his increased and you can see why that made for an explosive mix. (Also they did a Taming of the Shrew episode in which David was the tamer and Maddie was the shrew. Cybill says when she refused to do it, they called in the network execs and she was formally warned of a lawsuit. She did that episode under protest and I think in 2016 we can all agree that concept was screwed up)

    • Hudson Girl says:

How else would you end it though? (I haven’t watched it in a few years).
Wouldn’t it seem odd for them to just break up/give up after he chased her for years? Maybe they could pretend that she was just back working in DC (was it?)
I think it would be tough to write a LOGICAL and believable exit for her that doesn’t include death. The problem there is, fans of the show (or me anyway) want light and fluffy because that’s where he absolutely excels. The first few seasons his character was pretty funny and enjoyable.

      • Bridget says:

Tonally, killing her doesn’t really fit that we’ll either.

      • paleokifaru says:

I agree Hudson Girl. I’m a fan of the show and while I love the supporting actors too I think we’re all there because the main relationship has worked for us. And a divorce or a move for work just doesn’t make sense for their relationship. I don’t know how the writers could keep them alive and not have her on the show.

      • Bridget says:

Didn’t they already have them be separated this year anyhow?

      • paleokifaru says:

Yeah. They were publicly separated to protect Castle from the big bad group behind the murder of Beckett’s mom. But that charade has since been scrapped and they’d be hard pressed to try it again and keep the fans. Castle is at it’s best when they’re together.

      • anne_000 says:

Maybe Kate can go work with Castle’s stepmother as a spy to go after Lockjet (or whatever that’s called) and there’s scenes of Castle talking to Kate over the phone or getting email or texts? I dunno.

      • paleokifaru says:

Anne000 that is a brilliant solution!

      • CharlotteCharlotte says:

They can go the “Three’s Company” route. She be like Chrissy, talking to him on the phone, whilst he pretends to be so happy to hear from her and talk about how much he misses her. When in reality they film those scenes isolated, with someone else reading the lines for the other character.

So much history of leads who hate each other!

    • d says:

@Naya re Cybill Shepherd: I actually think the way they treated CS was terrible and that history (writers, BW calling her a b!tch, etc.) sounds like a form of harassment, quite frankly. The irony is they created a monster in catering to Bruce Willis, because by many account, he is quite insufferable now. I don’t know what Cybill Shepherd is doing these days or what she’s like, but I regardless, I think she’s a better actress.

  11. QQ says:

Sh!t EYE don’t watch this show but all I EVER read is about how much these two hate each other… EXCLUSIVELY

  12. Nic919 says:

Castle needs to be put out of its misery. The last few years have not been good and keeping Castle and Beckett apart has just killed the show. If the chemistry between the leads can’t be recreated then its time to move on. The procedural aspect was always pretty bad and predictable.

As for diva behaviour, I recall reading that it was Katic who was mean to the crew and Fillion called her out. And there aren’t bad stories about him from Firefly days. I am inclined to believe it was Katic who was a lot of the problem.

    • anne_000 says:

I hope that if it goes onto a 9th season, the comedy angle gets put back in more. Castle’s character hasn’t had as many funny scenes as he used to.

  13. Linda says:

The only rumors I have ever heard is that she is a diva bi–h. He is from Edmonton and returned there to help out with a theater . I think its her that has gotten an inflated ego.

    • Cat says:

This. I read the 1st season NF told her she was being a c*** because of how she treated the crew (like they were beneath her) and that she settled down some after that. Sounds like she started it back up once she got a few seasons in. Have never heard anything bad about him. He’s supposed to be a sweetheart to work with and the fans rave about how he treats them when they meet. He has too many fellow actors loyal to him years later to be too much of a diva.

  14. Linn says:

I love the first three seasons of Castle, but after that the show became worse and worse. Somehow Kate and Rick never worked as a couple for me and Castle was much more fun living with his mother and daughter.

That said, while I like Richard as the Protagonist, my favorites where always Ryan and Esposito. Please don’t tell me the actors hate each other in real life.

    • SloaneY says:

This. I honestly thought Beckett was the weakest part of the show. They could ditch her and get back to writing for the cases instead of writing around them not having screen time together and it would be good again.

    • anne_000 says:

Yeah, I like to skip over the more recent years’ scenes between Kate and Castle because they’re annoying to watch. I liked it when Castle used to be funnier. Hopefully he can resume that with Espisito and Ryan. I hope these latter two don’t hate each other either. They’re great together. I like how they play off each other.

    • Hazel says:

Oh, me, too. Those three guys at the Elvis convention–laugh out loud fun!

  15. K says:

Don’t really care about the backstage stuff-
Let’s be real we all have coworkers we dislike and can’t get a long with as long as you buck up and work with them who cares. And from what we’ve seen they have.

I do think this is a misstep by ABC, I mean how does the premise of the show keep going without her. I admit I quit watching years ago but she is the cop so she is tied to the crimes.

  16. Sabrina says:

I was surprised when I read about this news yesterday. What was most surprising to me was that ABC would announce this news so early and not wait till after the season 8 finale. I used to love watching this show until they came up with ridiculous forced separation storyline in season 8. It will be interesting to see how the ratings do for the remainder of the season.

  17. TT says:

For the longest time, I thought she was Emily Deschanel……

    • anne_000 says:

      Oh, I can’t stand Emily’s character. That’s why I stopped watching Bones.

      • The Original Mia says:

Ditto. Hate Bones. People can be super smart and not culturally dumb. I hate that aspect of her character. Like seriously sis…you weren’t hatched fully grown.

      • Hazel says:

And the writers were lazy. I watched a lot of episodes during Christmas season, and one show made a big deal of her losing her parents at a young age at christmastime & having no family, while the very next evening I saw a different season’s Christmas episode where — Tada! — she’s got a dad (Ryan o’neal) & a cousin (her sister). Lame & lazy writing.

  18. FingerBinger says:

I just started watching sleepy hollow thank you for the spoilers.

  19. Paisley says:

As a side story, the new showm The Catch, a Shonda show, is incredibly good. Oh how I hope it does well.

    • Dara says:

I always seem to miss it when it’s on in the evening – but it has become one of the shows I always search for On-Demand when I have time to catch up on the weekends.

    • Lurker says:

I watched one episode and it was a typical Shonda show – addictive and totally unrealistic. Also, someone needs to tell Mirelle Enos’s makeup artist to tone down the fake lashes! SO distracting!

    • Mika says:

The Catch is like a modern version of Thomas Crown affair with Faye Dunaway. It is good right now but they have a little bit of corniness going on with the solving of each case. If they add a bit more mystery and a bit more gravitas, this series can be really good!

      • islandwalker says:

That’s exactly what I said when I watched it, Thomas Crown affair. While I like it, it reinforces that Hollywood has no new ideas. It’s the first Shonda show that I have found mildly tolerable. I do love that the star is a mature woman and they have an age appropriate relationship.

      • Hazel says:

It reminds me of a new Janet Evanovich series, co-written with an author whose name escape me–with titles like The Job, The Chase, The Heist. The female lead is an FBI agent & he is a con-artist/thief. i thought the tv series was a poor copy.

    • anne_000 says:

I like The Catch too. I didn’t think I’d like the main actor, but I get why he was casted. He fits perfectly as the character.

  20. Annie says:

    Wait, what?
Nicole Beharie has been vocal about her displeasure? When? How come I didn’t know this?

    • Marty says:

I’ve never seen her voice her displeasure of the show. But she would have every right to, they treated her like crap then made it so she can’t ever return.

      • anne_000 says:

It’s SH. I think if they wanted her to return, they could work it out supernaturally.

I heard that she didn’t like how she wasn’t getting a meatier role. It’s too bad, because I think her character worked well into the show and that she was perfect as Crane’s partner. Oh well.

    • browniecakes says:

I never heard anything either about Nicole complaining. I loved Sleepy Hollow and used to love Castle prior to this season. Went to the Paley Center to see the Sleepy Hollow cast in 2014.
If the show runners have any sense they will put these shows out of their misery and avoid an X-Files Doggett and Reyes situation.

    • The Original Mia says:

Nicole didn’t come right out and say how they were treating her, but it was obvious in the writing and promotion of the show. She was told she couldn’t helm a con without Tom because people would only want to see him. When she finally did an European con and got massive support and applause, she went on record to say she was shocked and honored because she truly believed what the producers/execs told her. Then in S2, she was sidelined for Katrina. On her own show where she was supposedly equal in story importance to Tom Mison. Then, the producers didn’t have her do any commentary for the s2 DVDs. Then she had to ask the official SH twitter to follow her. At that point, she asked them to release her from her contract because it was obvious they didn’t value her. I think they continued to hem and haw to get her to come back in s3 and when she saw things weren’t getting any better…probably about the time they brought in Betsy Ross and the new FBI agent to replace her, she bounced. Don’t blame her at all.

  21. lucy2 says:

I think Castle just needs to end. 8 years is a long run for any show, time to let go, especially if the costs are high. While I’ve always heard they didn’t get along, I haven’t heard bad things about either outside of that. Sometimes people just don’t gel.

I finally quit Sleepy Hollow after watching this season pile up on the DVR. I’m sad to hear Nicole was unhappy and leaving though, I really liked her on the show, and thought she and Tom had great chemistry (and seemed to be friends off screen too). I hope she moves onto something better, but that show should probably be given the ax (ha ha) too.

I think it’s odd ABC wants to move away from the prime time soap, that seems to be what has worked best for them for a long time.

  22. Mrs. Darcy says:

WOW, somehow I am only just hearing about Nicole B. leaving Sleepy Hollow, that to me is much more shocking. I know Stana was a big part of Castle but by all accounts this has been on the cards (I don’t watch it)/on its last legs. So those things peter out, what is it on season 9?

But what Fox did to Sleepy Hollow/Nicole is an utter travesty. Season one was joyous, a great double act, and for some inexplicable reason they wrecked it (I’ve only seen through season 2) and took away most screen time from the female lead who made the show popular by its sophomore season. And now she has understandably left. That to me is so weird and messy and sad, I can’t believe they are going on without her.

  23. Marty says:

There has been a string of leading ladies leaving their shows recently and it’s just goes to show you how little value is still placed on the female leads of shows. It’s depressing.

  24. holly hobby says:

Ugh this. I’ve been a loyal fan since the beginning and heard the rumors. However this season pretty much killed the love I had for the show. First they split them up for something flimsy – why are we rehashing the Bracken/Beckett mother murder thingy again (what was a great story btw)? Now they marginalized her. He’s solving crimes with Hayley who I don’t care for. They also marginalized Lanie because you don’t see her often this year.

I just read on US Weekly that the working relationship got so bad that ABC made both stars go into couples counseling. Wow, that’s different and totally not appropriate for the work place.

The actor playing Esposito also tweeted that he and Ryan have not been invited back to season 9.

At this point, ABC should let this show die in grace. It’s done. I couldn’t even watch last night’s episode knowing what I know now. Great way to kill the mood ABC. Please cancel this show!

    • SloaneY says:

Ryan and Espo are the best parts, besides Castle.

      • Della374 says:

I’m still not over the total cheeseball video and song Huertas and Dever made last year. It ruined their characters for me.

    • lucy2 says:

So what would the show be, Nathan Fillion standing around talking to himself? Geez. Kill it, ABC, and save yourself the trouble.

    • paleokifaru says:

WHAT?! Are they thinking it’ll just be Castle’s PI business. I love Fillion but no, that won’t work.

    • Samtha says:

Ryan and Esposito make the show! That’s crazy. Just end it, for pete sake.

    • islandwalker says:

The Haley charater is a complete snooze fest.

  25. Scal says:

I don’t think it’s a beef between these two actors-as they are also cutting the woman that plays Lainey the medical examiner. From what I’ve seen-they both signed a 1 year contract last year that took a long while to sort out-and then weren’t asked back this year because of the budget. So it sounds more like $$$$ drama to me.

The show doesn’t work without Beckett. Just cancel it and let it go. 8 seasons is a great run.

  26. Lurker says:

I read years ago the problem was her, not him. That she was a total bag on set and making the crew miserable, and he gave her what-for about it.

  27. A.Key says:

Nevermind this, but Nicole Beharie leaving Sleepy Hollow really broke my heart.

    • browniecakes says:

Nicole will be in a redo of Jacob’s Ladder with Jesse Williams the hottie from Grey’s.

    • Samtha says:

Yeah. The first season was so amazing, and it was exciting to have a show with a woc co-lead who was treated as being just as important as the white male…and then season two happened.

    • Mrs. Darcy says:

I am still in shock over this. I was kidding myself it would get back on track at some point (even though I’ve only seen through season two as I’m in the U.K,). How could the writers be so dumb/ignore the fandom and the chemistry of the two leads which was what made the show great? Why aren’t THEY the ones out of a job? There is so much weirdness in this situation that I think will come out eventually. Tom and Nicole seemed to have genuine rapport, he really seemed to respect her work. I don’t know if he will say anything about this but I feel like/hope it’s less of a Castle ego situation. The twists and turns this show has taken, veered so completely away from what it started as, are inexplicable to me.

  28. Cait says:

I was an extra in a scene featuring Stana Katic on a film here in New Orleans. Her costars, the director (JONATHAN FRAKES, y’heard?) and the crew were all lovely. She was pretty unpleasant, though, which was such a disappointment.

  29. bellebottomblues says:

I thought I read somewhere that she and Nathan actually dated at beginning of show and by the time it was over, they really disliked each other. I dont see anything about it on here so maybe I’m wrong, will do some research.

    • Anna says:

I researched a lot about it but found just rumours. But I cannot really imagine that they were ever a couple. They are so completely different in their characters and interests. Just look at his choice of girlfriends which he had during all those years… completely contrary to Stana. So I think they liked each other in the beginning, but are not each others types

  30. Marianne says:

They might as well cancel it then. I doubt rhe show we’ll survive much longer without her.

  31. vv007 says:

He wouldn’t hold twine for a damn picture for the Bloggess so yeah I believe it when people say Fillion is a bit of a dick lol He seems kinda douchey which I hate saying about a hometown boy.

    http://thebloggess.com/2012/02/youre-ruining-nathan-fillion-for-me-nathan-fillion-alternate-title-but-i-forgive-you/

    • islandwalker says:

Seriously vv007? That blogger is an ass.

      • Della374 says:

That whole twine thing with The Bloggess was cringe-worthy. I like Jenny’s blog and books, but her mania about that photo was bad. It made me feel bad for Fillion because her fans were off the wall obsessed/angry.

  32. perplexed says:

I figured maybe she wanted equal pay.

  33. 5minutes says:

Used to watch this regularly on DVR – agree the quality is a down the last few seasons. Maybe someone with more TV experience can chime in but it seems so weird they’d announce this in advance of even a renewal order from ABC. Is that not really harsh?

  34. Ellen says:

Nathan Fillion IS a diva. Remember how a few years ago he walked off set because he wasnt getting paid enough? Anyone ever follow him Twitter? The man is self absorbed, conceited and flippant to everyone. One time he was abusing another user because his name was Nathan Fillion, too. From what I gather, he is also rude to fans and such and often ridicules them. I would not be surprised if his constant bitching and moaning and diva attitude were the reason his co star wanted quit his ass.

    • Meadow says:

The crew seem to side with Nathan, none of them really liked Stana.

    • d says:

Yeah, his letter on twitter is classic HR-ese, so I’m inclined to believe they did not get along. She may be better off doing something else anyway. Eight years is a long time and the storylines had gotten old and dumb.

  35. Meadow says:

I watched it the first 4-5 seasons but Stana was always the same , never really grew, exactly the same week after week. Castle put up with a lot of sh*t from her . The show lost it with the amnesia, kidnap plots and has been ridiculous for the last 3 seasons , so basically I couldn’t care less.
Did I hear a rumour that Nathan is dating Clooney’s long term gf Krista Allen, I’ve always liked her, she put up with a lot from Clooney.

  36. Mrs. Darcy says:

Oh well since this is CB, I am going to give out my very own Blind(ish) Gossip! Re: Castle. I’ve only ever watched a couple of episodes but in the last year someone I once knew has become a (supporting) series regular (I haven’t seen her in it but she seems popular with the fans). I was in a play with her in college. TOTAL diva. As in not memorizing her lines, always late/not showing up for rehearsals (she was the lead in the play), and full of really outlandish stories about her exotic upbringing. ALWAYS the one upper with the stories. It’s possible she’s matured, is more professional now I’m sure to still be working. The British accent (off camera) is something she acquired since I knew her though, that’s all I’m sayin’.

  37. Anna says:

I am devasteted by Stanas dismissal. I loved both the actors and their characters right from the beginning. My absolutely favorite series which distracted me many times.
I dont think that they hated each other from the beginning. I watched and read nearly every interview with them which was published. And you could feel and see the chemistry and friendship between them. (The funniest was where they read out of a ‘Nicky Heat’ – book. This was definitively no feigned chemistry.) She was chosen for the role because they had this instant chemistry, after he had castings with 150 other women and so far I remember he also had a say in it.

This drifting apart was slowly. Some day they did not show up together anymore. And my explanation is, that they are very different persons in real life with completely different characters and interests. Stana is the intellectual “saver” of the world, she commits for environment protection and other important things. She is not so much the type which pushes herself into the center of the attention. Nathan is the big boy, the fun guy which loves super heros, comics and computer games and spends a lot of time on conventions. Also in their private/love live they are completely opposed in their choice and liking of a partner… I think it is normal that such two different worlds clash with each other finally… sadly.
