Susan Boyle now has dyed hair to go along with her new eyebrows

Susan Boyle has gone Hollywood, and there’s no saving her now. In the last 48 hours she’s had her boobs raised 3 inches, lost 45 pounds thanks to liposuction, had Ken Paves hair extensions put in (and not the fake hair ones; the good stuff), and got 2 nose jobs – I don’t know how. While that’s all obviously utterly impossible, you’d think that’s what Susan’s done, judging by the way the British press is treating her. They’re making her out to be some vampy harlot who’s turned into a glamour queen overnight. When in fact Susan got a haircut and plucked her eyebrows. What a hussy.

In a 90-minute makeover in a salon near her home in Blackburn, West Lothian, Boyle had her frizzled grey hair dyed and styled to wavy auburn. She also had eyebrows plucked and had new additions to her wardrobe, such as a print dress and leather jacket. Salon management said: “The TV folk might not like what she’s done with herself. She looks really nice – nothing like the image that’s had the whole world talking about her.”

British tabloids have gone into a frenzy over the makeover, with front-page splashes suggesting her smoother face could be the result of Botox injections. But some fans were concerned the makeover could change the “Hairy Angel” into another bland reality TV beauty.

The Sun reported that the talent show’s producers were concerned about her smoothed-over appearance. Judge Amanda Holden said: “It wouldn’t be right to dye her hair and suddenly make Susan all glam. People have fallen in love with the real Susan. We don’t want to change what they fell in love with.”

Holden wanted to protect Boyle from further superficial changes, saying she did not want her to experience the overhaul past winner Paul Potts had.

[From the New Zealand Herald; Quotes from The Sun]

Jeeze, I wonder why a woman dubbed the “Hairy Angel” on national TV would want to go to a salon and spruce up her look? Clearly Susan Boyle was just waiting for the first excuse she got to flit about in revealing clothes and smooth hair. You know what the nuns say…

(I don’t remember what the nuns say, but I’m sure it’s uptight and condemns vanity).

Not surprisingly, in Los Angeles they’re all over Susan’s new look.

“Britain’s Got Talent” singing sensation Susan Boyle appears on the cover of the British tabloid The Sun with a startling new look. Gone is her matronly gray frizzy hair and those bushy brows, frumpy frock and old lady pearls.

Now she has freshly dyed and styled reddish brown locks and newly shaped eyebrows. She definitely does look hipper and younger. And we like the black leather jacket, khaki pants and Burberry muffler. Not what we would have expected to see her wearing AT ALL.

But let’s hope she stops here and doesn’t head for the tanning booth or the gym. Or worse, to the dermatologist for some Botox and filler.

Toni Jones, assistant fashion editor of The Sun, praised Boyle for getting a 35-pound ($51) haircut and color locally at Miss Toner salon in Whitburn, near Blackburn, West Lothian, instead of going to a swanky shop in London.

[From the L.A. Times]

I think Susan looks wonderful. I understand the point about not wanting her to turn into everyone else. Because we’ve got plenty of those. I mean this in the kindest way, but Susan stands out for the contrast between her outward appearance and her inner beauty – both her talent and her charming personality. That said, she didn’t get her boobs done, I doubt she had Botox, and… a patterned dress, really? We’re going to critique her for getting too posh because of a patterned dress? Something tells me it’s not Pucci. I think it’s safe to say she’s still Susan and hasn’t gotten all full of herself. She’s found cause to make a few minor improvements, and if it makes her happy more power to her. And if she never wants to pluck her eyebrows or cut her hair again, so be it.

Here’s Susan after her makeover. Images thanks to Fame Pictures . She’s also shown after she got her eyebrows plucked – Images thanks to Pacific Coast News.

oh give her a break, she looks cute!

  2. Embee says:

I think she looks very nice and still very much herself.

  3. SolitaryAngel says:

She looks great, and more power to her! It’s nobody’s business but HERS as to what she does with herself. Damn these people have nothing better to do! Grrrr.

  4. Victoria says:

    She looks so cute!

  5. ChristinaT says:

she was so charming the way she was 🙁

  6. Nony says:

    OMG HOW DARE SHE!?!?

Christ on a tricycle but people like to tear down others.

She looks good – not so much changed, but like she had the confidence and energy boost to enjoy a little primping. And mostly what I’m seeing in her face is that confidence. Good for her. She’s the one who gets to decide.

  7. Lisa says:

I go shopping, get a haircut, and do other primping before a job interview. I certainly did it all the time before some dates. We all want to look our best when the occasion is important. Give Susan a break. This is a huge deal, and a life-altering event. She did no more than any one else would have done.

  8. j. ferber says:

Yes, she looks great. She’s a star now. If she can’t color her hair or get her eyebrows plucked, what’s the world coming to? She should do whatever makes her feel good. God knows she sings like an angel and that’s all that really matters. So if she wants to spiff up, what with all the attention, more power to her.

  9. maritza says:

    She looks pretty good.

  10. Mairead says:

Frumpy frock? Which frumpy frock? That lovely damask dress she wore on BGT? I haven’t seen it in the shop nearest to me, but I’d lay money on it being Monsoon, and their stuff always has gorgeous fabrics and colours, is constantly well-cut and that can be washed to death.

To paraphrase someone on another thread her forte was never hair and makeup, but she always dressed and accessorised very well.

Bollocks to the British print media say I!!!

  11. Shelly Shellz says:

She’s 47! She’s waited her whole life for her big break. Before this she was a nobody, now not only is her voice finally being heard but she’s become a somebody. She’s lived a life of isolation and loneliness, let her enjoy the spotlight for a change and live her life the way she’s always wanted to live it. If it means dying her hair, waxing her eyebrows & applying a ltl make up…who cares! Even if she wanted to take it a step or 2 further she deserves to…I say more power to her!

  12. BluePlanet says:

Her freshening up is something she probably wanted to do anyway, and now she’s got the means to “splurge” a little.

  13. Indeed. She hasn’t even gone through any surgery yet whatsoever and, here, people already bash her about it. Yes, give her a break. Whatever enhancement she feels like doing, then so be it. She did say she wanted to be a famous singer right? Might as well she starts doing something about it 🙂

  14. gilly says:

I cannot understand the fuss being made over susan’s hair do and eyebrow plucking WHY NOT she certainly deserves to be made a fuss over, she has spent years caring lovingly on her mum good for her go susan go .having a little makeover certainly wont change your voice you sing brill…..

  15. rbsesq says:

I think Nony has it exactly right. She probably spend most of her life blending into the background and her outward appearance reflected that. Now she has more confidence, she’s feeling really good about herself, and maybe she wanted a little change so that the outside showed off her new self-confidence. Who among us hasn’t changed our hair or gotten a new dress to celebrate now and then. Good for her.

And those are some rockin’ shoes girlfriend’s sporting with that leather jacket. Love it.

  16. Cinderella says:

She’ll never have to pay for her own drinks again.

  17. I Choose Me says:

She looks fab but still very much like herself. Doesn’t mean she’s gone all Hollywood.

  18. Bub says:

Oh, so what? So now she looks 47 instead of 67. Everyone wants to look their best – why can’t she? There’s nothing wrong with good grooming. They should leave her alone already.

  19. Rebecca says:

Leave this woman alone already. All this press must be a tad much. For Susan, who was lonely prior to the performance, to now being hounded on her every move and criticized for her appearance, even to just a bystander, the behavior of the media is appalling. Leave her alone. If she wins, or gets a recording contract, then start to follow her around. If I were her, I would have a case of nerves. We love you Susan, no matter what you look like. Your voice is incredible!

  20. RhymesWithSilver says:

I’d say she hit exactly the mark she was hoping to- no drastic changes; she just looks like her best self. Sometimes seeing yourself on camera makes you realize what you’ve been missing in the mirror every morning, and might like to do differently. I think she has decent taste- I love the dress she was wearing in her TV debut.

  21. mamafogle says:

rbesq, I’m with you and Nony. She’s finally getting some incredibly positive attention for something she did herself. So she wants to feel pretty too? Any woman would want to feel good about herself.

And she’s got a date lined up with cute Piers Morgan. He’d better tread lightly or he’ll get hate mail for he rest of his life.

  22. skldfj says:

shes just made herself look presentable! its not like shes gone glamorous or anything!!! she deserves to look put together and feel good about her appearance! she doesnt have to stay the way everyone first saw her just because people want her to!

  23. anastasiabeaverhausen says:

Geez. I get my hair colored every eight weeks and I keep my brows groomed. If that’s all it takes to qualify for a huge makeover…..that’s weird.

I think she looks great. More her age now.

  24. e-non says:

gawd, i wish they’d leave this wonderful woman alone. some of the newspapers have been absolutely ugly in their descriptions of her. and what was her crime? a plain looking woman with extraordinary talent — and unapologetic to boot.

    clearly, she must be destroyed.

well, here’s to a win on that program; a number one release; and a command performance for the queen. you go, girl.

  25. Jenna says:

    She looks quite lovely. 🙂

  26. the original kate says:

let’s see…tabloids repeatedly called her “ugly” and “plain jane” but when the poor lady tries to fix herself up a bit she gets derided for that, too? fuck those tabloids – she looked okay before and she looks fine now. she has talent to spare so who gives a crap?

  27. cherryblossom says:

She kinda looks like my old violin teacher…and that’s a compliment.

If the paps called me a “Hairy Angel” you bet your ass I’d be getting my brows done. She looks like the same woman, but with better fashion sense.

  28. Darlene says:

    I think she looks great.

  29. boomchakaboom says:

She looks very nice, and anyone who knocks this lovely lady just for fixing up a bit, now that she can, are the ones who would have been bullies in school or card carrying members of the Mean Girls club. For shame, shame, shame, little people.

  30. ccoop says:

She looks wonderful. Yes, more power to her.

The tabloids just love to build people up only to tear them down, and then build them up again. It’s called “marketing”.

  31. Levi says:

She’s a lovely woman, so she had her hair done and has a few new outfits. She is unique, talented and an absolute joy to watch in these times of limited talent over-exposed individuals achieving star status, maybe it’s time we recognize talent and charisma instead of what is produced by the cookie cutter star machine.

  32. Raunnie says:

    Susan Boyle ROCKS!!!

  33. Lara says:

    Bless her.

Who cares if she isn’t glammed up like those fake Hollywood bitches.

She’s real, she’s someone you want to cuddle and love. There’s warmth there. I hope she never loses it.

  34. heh-heh says:

TEAM BOYLE!…We thought she was too frumpy — even JOY BEHAR said so, and Joy is too frumpy by half — so she gets a makeover and now everyone’s upset. I guess she didn’t want to read complete strangers in the tabs telling her she needed a makeover (when they probably need one themselves).

  35. eternalcanadian says:

She looks fabulous now! Why not capitalize on your 15-minutes of fame with free makeovers? Maybe she’ll find someone cute to snog with (didn’t she mention she hasn’t been kissed in like 20 years?)! 😀

  36. pebbles says:

for the love of Pete! I’m with Team Boyle as well…when I finally got around to seeing the clip of her singing, it gave me freakin’ goosebumps…and I’m usually a cynical b*tch.

  37. Paris Troika says:

I think she looks fantastic. Her clothes fit her beautifully, her hair is nice without being over-done (which is a huge thing for those of us with curly/wavy/frizzy/crazy hair)and she still looks very happy and self-possessed. Best of all, she neither looks like she’s trying to look 25, nor is she buckled into some lilac primeministerial suit. I’d say she knocked it out of the park.

  38. She hasn’t spent a minute on herself or her looks in years, despite in living a beauty-obsessed society. This is pent-up “me time”, well deserved. I’d rather see this than a perfect pedicure on Octomom!

  39. staramour says:

I totally agree with Nony, Bub, RhymesWS…She’s probably one of the 20million ppl who saw her YouTube clip & thought (like so many would) “Gosh, that’s what I look like?!” She’s probably never seen herself from that outside perspective before.

Susan seems wonderful and selfless. Taking care of her mom for the last 2 years was likely a difficult burden & she probably didn’t take care of herself 100%. You can tell she has style and sass – as Simon suggested with his “you’re a little tiger” comment. Her dress from the 1st show was perfectly lovely – even if it aged her a bit. But no one can disagree that she had some smokin’ 3″ heels that she obviously rocked & felt comfortable in, since she walked very confidently and steadily in them. She’s probably like so many of us – taking small chances that are not the most noticeable (conservative dress + sexy heels) and now she’s breaking through this shell. She’s going all out, with a spunky, well-deserved “nothing to lose” attitutde, to live her dreams and make her mom proud. She already has succeeded! Go Team Boyle!!!

  40. british bitch says:

How Susan looks has no bearing on her talent, which is real. Who cares what she looks like, I´m sick of botoxed perfection. The Daily Mail is the worse paper in Britain, it constantly plagiarizes this and other American celebrity sites, the writers there are sexless humorless old hags who are frustrated and ugly. The DM is shite.

  41. Gracie says:

She said that after she saw the tape, she was mortified to see what she looked like. She jokingly called herself some funny name (can’t recall it, but it almost made me LOL) but seemed pretty distressed by it.

  42. Mojo says:

    I’m with Lisa

  43. Christina says:

i see a lot of outrage toward naysayers… but no actual naysayers…:/

  44. Hieronymus Grexx says:

Step one in selling out is to change your appearance.

  45. JACQUELINE says:

    HELLO!!! SUZAN VERY GOOD….
    GUARAPARI-ES
    BRAZIL

  46. Marianne says:

Oh, man, I’m almost praying for someone else to come and end up this circus. Yeah, she sings nicely. What of it? Many other people do, too. And sing much better too. I heard so many absurds from people worshipping this person, comparing her to Aretha, Ella, Billie Holiday, calling her an angel….oh, gimme a break, will ya? She showed up virtually yesterday. She did nothing to be compared to these ladies who gave us so much with their careers. Susan’s story was completely set up by the production of Britain’s Got Talent. Simon is not stupid. He knows how badly people wanted a Cinderella story is those days of harsh economical crisis. The whole mocking thing from the judges and the audience and even the song Susan sang, everything was calculated. You don’t have to be really smart to see that. No rocket science, you know? They’re selling her the same way they sold Britney, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, etc. The only difference is the way Susan looks. But the whole machinery behind her is the same. People are giving Susan these mythical proportions after she sang one or two songs. Less, please, OK? Where will she be next year? Probably Glasgow. Yeah, I’m prepared to all the hatred my comment may cause. You have to like Susan. It’s a law.

  47. geronimo says:

Marianne – no arguments from me on most of that except why direct your irritation at Susan Boyle? It’s not her fault the media have decided to do the equivalent of a ‘Jade’ on her. She’s the only one in all this without an agenda.

But it IS only a matter of time before the tide really turns and the media will begin its ‘enough already’ campaign. She can’t be held responsible or accountable for people’s reaction to her, a reaction that was wildly and cynically exploited by the media. Direct your anger at the puppet-masters, not the puppet.

  48. Marianne says:

Hey, Geronimo, I have nothing against Susan, I don’t even know her. When I said you HAVE TO like Susan, I mean that people simply won’t let you point out how exploited she’s being. If you try to say anything realistic about this case, people will just be rude and even call you names. Of course the one to blame about this whole circus is the media. By the way, the media is the one to blame for so many problems of this world… And the audience in general, who’s easily brainwashed. I even feel sorry for Susan, because this kind of overnight stardom can mess up with her life completely. The press is fickle. They’ll easily find a new distraction and maybe she’ll find herself in the same place she was before very soon.I hope she’s enjoying herself and saving some money. Who knows how this story will end up?

  49. geronimo says:

Michelle, you’re right, I agree. Media manipulation again. At heart, she’s just a very sweet woman with a very nice voice, deserving of and happy with the opportunity she’s been given to perform in front of an audience. I just hope her experience is a positive one, financially and/or otherwise. If they haven’t actually done it yet, I reckon the media will end up ruining this entire experience for her.

  50. barneslr says:

I say good for her. She seems to be a humble woman who is suddenly a celebrity–truly a genuine overnight sensation. Who can blame her for wanting to spruce up her appearance a bit? What woman wouldn’t when they know they are going to be in the public eye, photographed and on TV?

Quite frankly, I’d be far more shocked if she DIDN’T do a few things to make herself feel more comfortable with being in the public eye. A new hairdo? Fixed up those brows? Hardly shocking news.

  51. geronimo says:

Oops. My post at 9:13 was to Marianne, not Michelle!

  52. Wow says:

Why do I get the feeling she is going to turn into a diva? This is usually how it starts.

She has all the right in the world to fix herself up since she has an audience and for herself. However I do have a feeling this is the begining of the end. 🙁

  53. Kira says:

Isn’t this the woman that played THE PIGEON LADY in Home Alone?

  54. JUSTINE says:

sooo she changed her hair brown big woopee it didnt make a difference to me at all she looked fine eitherr way she wouldnt have changed the way she looked if some of the people voted her to change herself. she lloked fine the way she was. and i think britian learned a valuble leasson now that the judges and the people in the auidence and the people at home seen such a pure voice come out of such a person that had the bad looks no offense its just it was a little shocking at first to hear that kind of voice.

  55. Jobie says:

Good for her! Still love her!
