Here are some photos from today’s Cannes Film Festival photocall for Money Monster, the Jodie Foster-directed film starring Julia Roberts, Jack O’Connell and George Clooney. Both George and Julia need this film to make money. I’m not shading them for that – I too would like to see more straight-up, mid-range dramas make money. But the current Hollywood model is to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on superhero movies and everything else gets the shaft.
Anyway, George’s wife Amal did not join the group at the photocall, because why would she? She’s not in the film. But she will be attending the premiere tonight, and I’m looking forward to seeing what she’s wearing. Until then, we just have to pretend to find Julia Roberts’ Givenchy menswear-inspired outfit interesting. If you look closely (and I’m zooming in like a mofo), you’ll notice that this actually isn’t a two-piece vest and slacks combo. It’s a onesie!! Julia Roberts wore a zoot-suity onesie to her Cannes photocall. *goose honk*
As for George, he recently turned 55 years old, and while doing press yesterday at Cannes, he was asked what his wife gave him for his birthday. He said: “We have a beautiful front lawn at our house in England and I used to mow lawns when I was a kid. So she bought me this giant riding lawn mower that is sitting at the house right now and I’m very excited about putting that to work when I’m home.” So, she got him a gag gift for his 55th birthday? Because George Clooney is not going to be riding a mower on his English estate. Besides the fact that he obviously has people for that, he just couldn’t do a riding mower with his back. So Amal’s gift seems… wrong.
Also, the second lady in white (besides Jodie) is Caitriona Balfe, best known for her role in Outlander. She has a supporting role in Money Monster and she came to play at Cannes, fashion-wise.

I agree about Jodie and I LOVE her dress. It’s a classic sheath dress that says more with less. The shoes work well with this. I love that the red in the shoes is hidden; great understatement. The hemline is below the knees-thank goodness! i would love to have this dress. And lastly, Jodie has a womanly shape-she is obviously OK with eating ‘three squares’ a day and that is refreshing to see.

@ Amelie – all Loubs have red soles so this is nothing subtle from Jodie. That’s how we know they’re Loubs. For subtle, go Valentino, Blahnik, YSL, etc.

Jodie Foster. Now that’s a woman to look up to. Classiest person in the business. I think she looks so good still because she has no vanity whatsoever. She doesn’t stress out about looking young, wearing the latest fashions, or botoxing to death. She has said she knew she would never win any beauty contests or win most likable. She’s very humble.
What is Julia Roberts wearing? I had something similar to that in the early 90s, but in retrospect I hope it was more flattering.
I’m sure it was. I think we all went through that phase at some point. I mean the stripes, not the onesie thing.

Tall women should never do cute or whimsical, Julia looks ridiculous and so does the tall brunette with the frilly white dress. I think this is why amal always looks so bad. She always chooses the cutesy dresses and it never looks right.

Julia’s outfit is quite awful. To think that she likely had stylists who pulled her outfits, and that she looked in the mirror and said, “yep, that’s it; the pinstriped onsie for the photocall” is some kind of misguided fashion sense.
Jodie looks wonderful, and to your point anniefannie, her dress is tailored perfectly. It’s good to see Jodie!
ETA: just looked at the photos again — Julia’s hair! Looks like she got up late and threw it in a ponytail. And that outfit really is a mess — the length is off, fits poorly, shirt looks bunched. Bad all around — try again, Julia.
Jodie’s dress is simple, classic and elegant. As for Julia’s outfit – if you didn’t know who she was, you’d think Jodie and George were being really nice by getting their mechanic to pose in the picture, too. I suppose Julia chose her outfit for comfort? t

Every time I see Jack O’ Connell I just cannot believe that he was James from Skins. NEVER would have guessed that he would grow up to be such a hottie. He’s like a Prince Harry in that way….
@Kitten, I love Jack O’Connell. He’s become one of my favorite younger actors. I loved him in Starred Up and ’71. I didn’t even realize he was in this movie. Great news.
And, yes, George looks very handsome in those pics.
Julia could use a little more styling. I know she wants to push the natural, care free look but it just does not suit her, unlike Jodie Foster that looks wonderful in that simple ensemble.

She did speak eloquently about her love of Gibson recently – I don’t know that I would have made the choice, but I understand her choice better.
I get the problem with Mel, but you do kind of have to admire a friend who stays with you through thick and thin even when you act like a complete ass, and Mel qualifies for that and more. Plus take the small part of her life that is Mel’s supportive friend out of it, and she is really a cool lady with a lot of talent and interesting projects. I think I’ll stay on her train for a while longer.

I think Jodie Foster stopped aging after 40. She looks fantastic.
As for the movie, I don’t see it being a hit considering the current Rotten Tomatoes score. Honestly, I think HBO is a better vehicle for a movie like this. It seems like it’s either blockbuster, kids movie or bust anymore. There’s no middle ground.
That’s sad, but true for the most part. Although, there is still a little middle ground. Brooklyn and Bridge of Spies and Spotlight did nicely. I loved all three.
Depending on the condition of his back, he might want to use it to just ride around the estate…

Julia looks ridic, weird, and out of place (did someone tell her she’s at Cannes). I love Jodie and she has simple, consistent style and I’ll bet it’s her fav, Armani. I feel #gratitude for George putting away his raggety jeans for an hour or two. That Outlander lady looks the best and got in the spirit of the festival.

I started watching the trailer to the movie, and it looks great. I stopped watching it halfway through as trailers tend to give too much away.

Between Cannes and the Met Gala, I’ve seen more white than I have in the past 10 years.
I’m not thrilled about this development because as a dark brunette, white looks pretty awful on me.

I’ve thought a few times lately that he looks like he wears a truss or some other specialist arrangement around the groin. Something has just not been hanging right there for a while.
In many of his recent photos even the length of his trousers is not tailored correctly. In these photos, at least his pants hem is not dragging on the sidewalk. But, if you notice the trousers don’t hang correctly lengthwise,,,,it also looks as if one of the legs was cut on the bias. Anyway, I have issues with the poor tailoring of men’s suits these days. Where have all the good tailors gone?

The big mower is likely a zero turn, which is easy to board and operate. If the lawn is smooth (not bumpy), his back should be fine. Larger mowers tend to be more cushioned, ride-wise, plus they have many optional features similar to what you can get on an automobile.
Fashion-wise, GC and Jodie look nice. Jodie seems to be a person who just looks better with age.
My next door neighbor has a riding mower, and our lawns are tiny. He just spins around in circles looking like an ass. Why do men love riding mowers?

Given the flooding that is occurring around their new property in Berkshire, I think an amphibious vehicle would have been a more appropriate gift.

He and Julia do have great chemistry on red carpets together when watching the videos they had of the press conference and the red carpets.
Jodie is my favorite of the trio. So classy and smart. She has the best minimalist style too. Understated Armani glamour is her trademark.
