A Paris Hilton documentary is coming, filmmakers call her ‘a modern day Marilyn’

wenn23830144

Finally, folks – FINALLY – someone is making a documentary about Paris Hilton. Sure to pick up where her last reality show, The World According to Paris, left off, this groundbreaking film promises to “reflect on how the spotlight has contributed to the person she is and examine the impact her image has made on young women today”. To tear off the mask covering Paris’ long 35 years of life, documentarians Don Argott and Sheena Joyce are apparently going to interview Paris about all things Paris.

Anyone who has turned on a television or looked at a computer screen over the past decade may well assume they know everything there is to know about Paris Hilton.

Apparently not.

9.14 Pictures and XYZ Films on Wednesday used Cannes to announce an as-yet untitled documentary peering into the life of the “businesswoman, entrepreneur and media icon.”

Don Argott and Sheena Joyce are set to direct the project, which will kick off production in Ibiza at the end of summer, with Hilton, Jamie Freed and 9.14 Pictures producing. XYZ Films, which also is executive producing, is handling worldwide sales and will be introducing the doc to buyers at the Cannes film market.

Billed as a “unflinching, authorized documentary,” the project will see Hilton discuss the thing that made her famous, reflect on how the spotlight has contributed to the person she is and examine the impact her image has made on young women today.

“Paris Hilton is a modern day-Marilyn Monroe — beautiful, iconized, world famous, shaped by mass media and misunderstood,” said Argott and Joyce. “We are thrilled to work with Paris to explore her complicated relationship with the public, the press and the politics that shape our perception of a modern celebrity.”

[From The Hollywood Reporter]

“Hilton will discuss the thing that made her famous” – would that be her great grandfather’s last name or her first authorized documentary? Seriously, where to begin? How about discussing how Paris is not anywhere near the same zip code as Marilyn Monroe. Of course this will be an “unflinching” documentary; we are getting all of our flinching out with the mere mention of this. I wonder if they will delve into her love of animals – like the endangered ones she likes to dress up and take photos with?

This is set to film this summer in Ibiza, where Paris is resident DJ at Amnesia, something I wish I had since hearing about this documentary. However, I saw another 9.14 Pictures documentary, Two Days in April, about the NFL Draft and I liked that. Argott and Joyce also made Rock School and The Art of the Steal, both of which were critically well-received. They seem to find the right angle to tell a story, maybe they will find the pulse to Paris’ story. She did enter the ground floor of reality TV and she was instrumental in creating the phenomenon of getting paid just to show up. I just worry about getting a straight story with the “authorized” caveat stamped on this. If you can’t wait for this oeuvre, don’t fret, you can whet your Paris appetite with her new single on its way soon.

I swear I just heard the Kardashian Klan scream in unison.

    I forgot all about Paris.

    • Kimbers says:

I forgot about her too. I think she has an international fan base for rich people and not us regs. Not sure how she’s relevant to today’s young people besides a perfume line.

Now i feel like listening to her Stars are Blind lol

    • Tifygodess24 says:

Surprisingly She’s huge overseas. Between all her stores, fragrances, a hotel and now her DJ gig. (Thanks Wendy Williams lol) I wasn’t a fan of Paris when she was all over our media, but hell I would take her back in a heartbeat to get rid of the Kardashian/jenners. Only one of her to ignore unlike that family.

However famous, shes no Marilyn Monroe though.

      • annaloo. says:

Agree agree agree. I would rather Paris than any Kardashian. And I remember reading when she hit the billion dollar mark with her trademark and licensing overseas. She is definitely not Marilyn though. Marily was loved by the masses, Paris annoys and reviles them.

I have to admit that I watch her snapchats a lot. The summary of the life she posts seems very …one note, and kind of isolated. She is never with friends. All she does is shop and go to events and hoards clothes. The only time that she seems unguarded is with her menagerie of pets. I think she secretly doesn’t like to be around people/is very introverted…but definitely narcissistic. She loves herself, like really loves herself. And her refrigerator has no food. Only drinks and condiments. So weird.

  2. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Um, a modern day MM? How is that, exactly? Background? No. Looks? No. Charisma? No. Personality? No. Talent? No. Level of fame? No. Career? No. Romantic history? No. Ohhhh. They’re both blonde. Ok, yeah, I almost mistook her for MM because they have nothing in common whatsoever but they are both blonde, so…

    • Naddie says:

Stop reading my mind, woman! And I wonder how she looks like without make up and expensive clothes, since looks and money is all she’s about. Oh wait, I’m being ignorant, she’s another “misunderstood free-spirit”.

    • Erinn says:

Yeah, I mean… I don’t even know where to begin. I can’t say I’m a MM fan – and I laugh soooo hard at the girls that keep sharing Marilyn quotes that aren’t REALLY Marilyn quotes.

I have to say – I really miss the styling of the 40’s and 50’s. I was looking through some of my grams photos and holy hell, she was a stunner. Just the tailoring of the clothes was so amazing as well – and then when you look at 2000’s Paris… hahahaha.

    • Gabrielle says:

Yeah, MM came from nothing, and made herself into one of the most beloved movie stars of all time through hard work and talent. Sadly, couldn’t escape her demons and destroyed herself. Not sure why so many women still want to be like her when she was so unhappy.

PH was born on third base. Became a star just by showing up and people lost interest in her because she’s so vapid. More so than Kim K who has managed to hang onto fame longer.

But MM and Paris must be the same because they’re both blond.

    • crtb says:

I always thought of her and her sister as modern day Gabor sisters: Zsa Zsa and Eva. With Paris being Zsa Zsa.

      • pnrh says:

Gabor was already pretty old by the time she became famous. She will literally be 100 next year. I don’t think she was famous until the 1950s when she would’ve been in her 40s.

  3. teatimeiscoming says:

Marilyn Monroe has been dead longer than Paris Hilton has been alive for, and people are still fascinated by her. Hilton is a has-been that few people are interested in for anything more than the entertainment of a trainwreck. I wish people would stop invoking MM when they discuss female “celebrities.”

    • Lucy2 says:

Yes! People are still fascinated by Marilyn decades after her death, but no one gives a crap about Paris Hilton now.
There is nothing interesting or likable about her, why did someone waste their time making this movie?

  4. Sam says:

And Blake Lively is the next Meryl Streep. See how easy it is to talk nonsense.

    • teatimeiscoming says:

lololol…. you mean Ms. Marbles Mouth-McGee herself?

      • JFresh says:

Horrible marbles-mouth on that girl. So other people do notice this? It’s not just me? She has gotten slightly better over the years. Do you think she was responding somehow to poor direction in Gossip Girl? Or was it all just her?

  5. NewWester says:

So is Paris Hilton sensing the decline of the Kardashian juggernaut and attempting a comeback?
I wonder if this will be just “rose coloured glasses” view of Paris or will it be a no holds barred view( animal hoarding, rumours of her forgetting pets in closets and then dying, racist comments, drug use, etc)?

    • guest says:

Never mind, I take what I said back. PH does bother me.

    • LookyLoo says:

      It’s authorized, so no.

    • JenYfromTheBlok says:

I just love that a Kinkajou -bit her- at an event on the red carpet; that, and the police raided her mansion for animal hoarding. My favorite image is that of her coming out of Jail without human trafficked hair extensions with all the cameras exploding. I thought that was the death of all things PH- but now the ParisHIlton Zombie Apocalypse?

      • SusieQ says:

My favourite image is her sitting in the back of the police cruiser bawling her eyes out, picks me up whenever I think about it.

  6. guest says:

Mmm…last week the Botched plastic surgeons were saying Kylie Jenner was the modern day Marilyn Monroe. I don’t know, PH never bothered me.
Though she should’nt be compared to MM.

  7. anniefannie says:

This seems so random. I mean of all the people? Over exposed w/ zero substance is a thing now?

    • Jill says:

It’s a thing she kind of started.

      • JenYfromTheBlok says:

Pretending to be mortified over an unauthorized sex tape release is an age old trick…haven’t millions of starlets used the same strategy? Did she start the “famous for nothing” or did she commandeer the term?

  8. Amelia says:

    Paris is 35?!
For real? I’m not entirely sure why, but this surprises me.

Honestly, I’m mildly interested in watching this. A few years back there was a series of mini-documentaries on ITV2 hosted by Fearne Cotton, and Paris was the subject of one episode. She came across as quite a shrewd businesswoman, who calculates pretty much everything.
Maybe I’ve got too much time on my hands, but I find this farcical celebrity-playing-dumb persona quite interesting, particularly how it’s just spread and spread and spread in the last decade or so.

    • JenYfromTheBlok says:

The “celebrity playing dumb” card has worked for many celebs, sadly, mostly women in this society from Charo to Suzanne Summers. However, Paris is cruel to animals and a flagrant drug use offender who uses her wealth to absolve her of crimes. I loathe this woman; I’m only responding to make sure people realize she is worse than “famous for nothing”.

    • SusieQ says:

Some old rep of Paris wasn’t sure how to market Paris and so came up with the playing dumb story while saying in interviews she really is dumb. How much grey matter is needed to steal others ideas and throw your name on them?

    • annaloo. says:

Just watch her snapchat for a few days. I don’t think she’s dumb, but she is definitely not plugged into others or the world– she is def plugged into herself. She’s a weird case – narcissistic, yet weirdly introverted.

      • Susie Q says:

She’s alone all the time because no one can stand her, she has no friends.

      • JenYfromTheBlok says:

Her whole schtick is a black hole of substance. I am officially sucked in.
        H E L P M E…

  9. DanaG says:

Paris just isnt relevant she is trying to be but since she has no actual talent she is down the bottom of the pile. Marilyn could act I doubt even she would like Paris. I thought she had given up on the “singing career cause she is just bad. The only thing she is good at is….hmmm can’t really think of anything. Going to be a very short doco if they are trying to find out the impact she has had on women most I know think she is an idiot….

  10. Green Is Good says:

    *eyeroll* Really? *eyeroll again*

  11. LookyLoo says:

Hecate! Love the write-up. Made me giggle. 🙂

  12. grabbyhands says:

The documentary that NO ONE was asking for.

Apparently someone was tired of being ignored.

I don’t think the Klan has much to worry about as Paris Hilton outlived her relevancy ages ago, but I’m sure it won’t stop PMK or KK from doing SOMETHING to immediately draw attention back to them. I assume another nude selfie or new bleach job is imminent.

    • Bex says:

Yes, she has outlived her relevancy. My 15 year old daughter has no idea who Paris Hilton is.

      • Pandy says:

And that burn by your 15 y o daughter just made my day. I’m sure this will be a hard hitting documentary with Parasite as one of the producers. Let’s hope they include the crying in the cop car scene.

  13. missmerry says:

honestly, I wouldn’t call her a modern marilyn because they are famous for different things, and I don’t understand why people always have to be “the new ______”

Unlike the Cardashians, at least Hilton was the first of her kind, albeit a terrible, useless kind in the grand scope of things…lol

but I think this sounds fascinating considering where we are today in terms of reality stars, shows and celebrity famous and paid for DOING NOTHING!

I’d love to re-see the path she followed (not to mention HER view of all that has happened, you know, from the inside of the crystal fish bowl) to get where she is and get the media and Hollywood where it is, if not only to re-remind myself why I still just CAN’T with any of these people.

  14. Calico Cat says:

    Paris is a modern-day moron!

  15. Katttt says:

Lohan will be FURIOUS when she hears about this…

    • guest says:

I would actually love a transparent Lindesy Lohan story. Her parents are horrible people, not to blame them for her own personal choices…I don’t know I always had a soft spot for LL.
I just want her to just chill and get true help. Then she could do a documentary looking back in her life.

    • boredblond says:

Not to mention Monroe turning over in her grave.

  16. Jwoolman says:

Paris isn’t in our face 24/7. She just does what she wants to do and doesn’t need to be well known anywhere except her particular market. She seems to have learned a few lessons from her stint in jail and actually has kept it relatively low key.

So I doubt she’s staging a comeback of any sort or that she ever even thinks about the Kardashians. She seems to be happy enough where she is. She was born of rich but neglectful (and possibly abusive) parents and has become richer due to her own business ventures. Not bad for someone who is probably a functional illiterate (not snark, I think she really does have trouble reading).

    • Jayna says:

She’s low-key because over here in America she’s a has-been. She gets work overseas DJing, etc, so that’s why we don’t hear about her. I think she is probably very jealous of the Kardashians and their huge popularity over here, where there is little interest in her anymore.

  17. Darkladi says:

    Haha!!! April Fo…wait, what?

  18. Jayna says:

Who? LOL She has to go overseas to get work (DJ’ing, red carpet) and get noticed. Nobody has cared about here over her for many, many years. Her last reality show years ago was cancelled in the middle of it.

So how is this vapid twit the modern day Marilyn Monroe, who was a beauty icon, an actress? What a crock.

  19. Jessica says:

Bish whet? Who even cares about her anymore? She didn’t have Kim’s longevity because, unlike Kim, she’s mean, messy & racist. Whatever my problems with Kim’s constant overexposure, at least Kim is known as a nice person with a reputation for showing up on time and treating everyone with respect and courtesy. She isn’t known for partying or being messy like Paris, Lindsay and the whole crowd before her are. I don’t put Marilyn on a pedestal because she did have a lot of problems, but she was genuinely charismatic, vulnerable, glamorous, etc. She had completely different life experiences and attitudes from someone like Paris and that’s why we still talk about her decades later while no one talks about Paris. The Simple Life is the best thing Paris ever did and that’s only because Nicole made it so funny.

    • JustCrimmles says:

Agreed. I can’t get mad at Kim K, because overexposed or not, she just doesn’t come off as shit as Paris always did. If there’s news about her being a racist, animal hoarding coke head, then it’s been hidden extremely well. She’s the lesser of two evils, and really, she’s more like EviLite™. I used to hate hate hate all things Paris, I’m not looking forward to any return from her. But, I’d be willing to watch the film.

    • Jwoolman says:

I’ve watched enough clips from the show to know that Kim is only very selectively nice. She’s arrogant and nasty to her family and others when she can do so without losing anything. She doesn’t get plastered and apparently rarely even drinks alcohol, which is good. She doesn’t seem to engage in diva behavior at public places such as events and restaurants, which is also good. She also doesn’t seem to habitually step on the peons usually, with some exceptions, another point in her favor. But she is not nice from the heart and certainly not universally nice. She is cold and self-absorbed and a pathological liar (they are quite definitely not nice people). She simply has discovered that letting out the nasty in some public situations would be bad for her image and thus not in line with her goals. She lets it out on her shows for some reason (both she and her mother have creative control, so she must like to see herself that way), I assume it draws viewers. (It just makes me dive for the remote control.) Also she is so self-centered that it may not occur to her that she is showing an ugly side of herself in such cases – she thinks she is showing “tough love” and being the voice of reason and truly deserves to have the world revolve around her. She is actually a quite toxic person with only a thin veneer of “niceness” to fool people who have been lucky enough not to run into such people in real life.

My mother was a truly nice person. She didn’t need a camera focused on her to be genuinely nice to everybody without getting anything out of it. I never heard her say a mean thing about anybody, no matter how aggravating they were. So I know the difference.

      • Jessica says:

Jwoolman, on the show she’s not always nice, I give you that. On the show I think they’re playing characters to at least some extent, but I was speaking about her professional reputation. Her professional reputation is very, very good as surprising as that may be. When she shows up on a set she’s known to greet everybody, ask their names, she shows up on time, she’s easy to work with, she doesn’t complain or act arrogant/rude/entitled. More recently on the show she took Kylie aside because Kylie was starting to develop a bit of a diva reputation, was known to always be on her phone during jobs, etc. and she lectured her on the importance of being professional and likable to the people she works with because that’s how she’ll achieve longevity. She’s not always kind to her family, at least on the show, but none of them are. She is known to show up and put in work and not be a bitch. She’s no saint but she’s a lot better than Paris in that regard, and I think that’s part of the reason why she’s still around and Paris isn’t.

I do revise my comment about Paris being racist and Kim not being racist. Actually, the entire K family is pretty racist for their collective fetishization of black men and the way they appropriate from black culture.

  20. poppy says:

really? this girl first attracted attention by flashing her kooter at nyc parties to get noticed because even her name wasn’t enough. literally bending over for photographers, sans knickers, and giving them a full shot of her bits.
    smh.
she’s bankrolled this documentary, directly or indirectly.

  21. JFresh says:

Any claims that a person is the modern day Marilyn can do nothing but backfire. Not even in her sweetest fantasies could PH have a fraction of a molecule’s worth of the grace, wit, hard-earned talent and irresistibility, iconic femininity, and tragic, inimitable beauty that Marilyn possessed.

  22. Hazel says:

    Modern day Marilyn? Hardly.

  23. KiddVicious says:

I’ve never paid attention to anything Paris Hilton, (unless she was getting arrested, that’s always funny), but years ago there was something on TV about Paris and her sister, they were going to Japan to promote some jewelry store line. They were allowed to take anything they wanted from the store and it was like a free for all. These two extremely wealthy girls who could probably buy the whole store were grabbing at anything and everything they wanted for free. They took so much there is no way they could ever wear it in their lifetime. It was sickening. That told me more about her character than any “documentary” ever will.

I will say, though, that she has amazing clothes and wears them well.

  24. NotSoSocialButterfly says:

    Paris Hilt-who?
    *crickets*

  25. Miss M says:

I can’t wait to watch this documentary! *insert sarcasm*

  26. knower says:

…..have we taken a time machine back to 2005?

Cause that’s the only way she’s relevant.

  27. what's inside says:

Ummmm, no, just no to all things Paris Hilton. And while we are at it, let’s include Lindsey, Kim, and all the rest of that nosebleed crowd.

  28. The rat McGee says:

    seriously?

    she said that?

must be that somebody said that…

    seriously?

  29. TOPgirl says:

More like Rich Modern day Trash. Her and the Kardashian are all in the same category.

  30. Serenity69 says:

Paris Hilton….the herpes- infected rich bitch is famous for nothing except her family name. To compare her to Marilyn Monroe is laughable after the feeling of wanting to gag. She thinks everyone should bow down to her like she is royalty. She is so irrelevant. Wonder how much she paid to have the documentary to be produced. How pathetic. Thirsty…thirsty nasty skank.

  31. Blackbetty says:

Paris Hilton- “Heiress”, no charisma, has everything handed to her on a plate, famous for “being famous”, spoiled brat, has ZERO idea how the average joe lives.
Marilyn Monroe- Actress, actually struggled financially early in her career, actually had charisma, financially supported her mother while she was “sent away/ in a home”.

They had two completely different life experiences.

  32. allkekes says:

    I can’t even with this one… sigh.

  33. kgg says:

Does anyone remember when she went on an Australian morning show and got asked about being a fading celebrity and she basically walked off the show? If this documentary doesn’t address the fact that she is nowhere near as popular as she once was, then it’s just going to be one long commercial.

    http://www.examiner.com/article/paris-hilton-bans-australian-show-sunrise-over-fame-question-video

  34. IcedGreenTeaLatte says:

Another delusional Hollywood narcissist so utterly self-obsessed she can keep a man or relationship for very long. Paris will be doing the same exact shit when she’s 80. Wallpapering every inch of her Beverly Hills mansion with pictures of herself, talking in a toddler voice, posting heavily filtered selfies on Instagram, and striking poses on the red carpet that make her look like she has scoliosis. #livingthedream

  35. Aubrey says:

I followed her on snap so I guess I am one of the factors keeping her relevant enough for the documentary. The only thing she has posted that is remotely interesting is her sister Niki’s baby shower, other then that she just posts outfit changes.

  36. Classy and Sassy says:

I would sooner watch anything about the Hiltons than the Kardashians.

  37. Meg says:

Except that Marilyn was a talented, hard working, pain-filled struggling actress, who came from NOTHING to become a star… pretty much except the opposite from Paris expect for the bleached blonde hair. Not that I’ve ever watched a Paris movie, but if you did and then watched Bus Stop, or Seven Year Itch, or Some Like it Hot, or Don’t Bother to Knock, you would instantly recognize there is NO comparrison.
