Brad Pitt was out and about in New York yesterday – but he wasn’t schlepping around doing errands at the Stop & Shop. He was filming a commercial for Softbank, a Japanese cell phone company. Judging solely from the pictures, I think the gist of the commercial is that “Famous Brad Pitt is actually a Servant”. Brad was seen carrying an umbrella- but not for himself – Brad “stars” with a Japanese sumo wrestler.
This is not Brad’s first ad with Softbank. He filmed a commercial with them last year, when he was seen in France wearing a fruity canary-yellow suit and fedora. Gawker claimed that the ad was directed by Wes Anderson (The Royal Tenenbaums) That ad is here.
I really hope they’re paying him a lot of money for these ads, because they’re a little embarrassing. Brad has always supplemented his movie star income with commercials and print ads. In the past, he’s done advertising for Tag Heuer, Edwin Jeans and Dell Computers.

Despite being a fame whore & seeming moronic I think his comic ability is truely under rated. He was brilliant in Burn After Reading.
First off I agree: Thank whatever fashion gods conspired to rid BP of that hideious psuedo gottee (UGH…do men not own mirrors?)!!!
Secondly, I doubt Pitt finds the commercials embarassing…from what I’ve seen, he has a mischevious sense of humor and would probably enjoy shooting commercials that are silly or take pot-shots at his ‘Sexy Movie Star’ image.

I agree that the commercials are embarrassing. It also shows me that he can’t really pull it off, whether it’s his attitude, comedic skills, or something else, I don’t know. Maybe he doesn’t have the lightness of touch required? Also, his face is looking a little too chunky for my liking. I know it’s crude, but the man’s career was built on his looks. He can’t help that he’s aging, I know, but it’s the very reason women’s acting careers dry up so soon, whether or not they can act.
