Chris Pine covers the new issue of Men’s Fitness to promote Star Trek Beyond. I’ve always found Chris Pine attractive, and he’s probably the Hollywood “Chris” I find the sexiest. But this photoshoot did Pine no favors, right? He looks… not great. Pine is the only Hollywood Chris without a Marvel contract, although Pine did sign on to play the damsel-in-distress for DC’s Wonder Woman. Pine has been lovely about it too, saying he’s proud to be a part of a superhero movie where the lady superhero gets to go around and kick some ass, for feminism. As it turns out, Pine was also relieved that he didn’t have to go on a superhero diet. Some highlights from his Men’s Fitness piece:
He doesn’t think the superhero diet is healthy: “You’ve got Thor, you’ve got Captain America. These guys are eating 5,000, 7,000 calories, waking up just to eat food, eating 15 meals a day. For your liver, I don’t think that’s healthy.”
He never cared about Star Trek, so playing Captain Kirk never weighed him down: “If it had been a ‘Top Gun’ remake, that would have weighed heavier on my shoulders.”
His workouts include lots of movement while using “giant Bamm-Bamm weapons”: “Before this. I was doing pretty traditional weightlifting. It was so static, so controlled. You know, bench presses…it was so stiff. I started getting into this idea of movement and it led me to Mark, whose philosophy is about moving the body in different directions. This is more functional. With this workout, all of a sudden you start to float more. “Even my friends used to make fun of the way I walked. I was walking in this rigid way, and it had a lot to do with having been an insecure kid trying to move protectively. Now, my body is moving in a more healthful way. It’s because of Mark’s process.”

I’m sort of interested in Pine’s workouts now. It sounds like Pilates mixed with Crossfit mixed with… boxing maybe? And he gets to carry around a comedic-looking “club.” But I agree with Pine that the “superhero diet” of putting on so much weight (muscle weight, mostly) probably isn’t that great for your body long-term, especially if you’re doing it the Chris Hemsworth way. Hemsworth bulks up so hard for Thor, but then he drastically loses weight in between films. That’s tough on the body no matter who you are or what your age. Also: now I sort of want to see Chris Pine in a Top Gun remake.

What is the interest of Photoshop if you can’t recognize who is on the pic ?
I know, right? He looks like Justin Timberlake in the picture with the car, and that’s a serious downgrade.
In the photo of him with the sports car all I see is Eddie Cibrian! Eek!
I half expected to see LeAnn draped across the car in some way…
Well hello sexy – thank you for making this horrible Tuesday a bit better with a picture of my hot husband Chris😍
I will say I think of the Chrises, Pine is the best actor. Pratt is probably the most charismatic but hasn’t shown any range (yet?).
Oh and apparently Star Trek is good, so yay!
That much protein probably doesn’t do your body (or liver) a huge favor that’s for sure.
Pine’s looking good here – whatever workout he’s doing its getting nice results.
And here I was thinking it was the steroids that were bad, not the diet. 😛
ETA: Chris Pine is gorgeous, what in photoshop hell did they do to him here?
*Sarcasm on * What?! What steroids? That’s crazy! It’s all down to diet and exercise! 😐
*cough* bullsh*t *cough*.
All joking aside, one of these superhero actors will have to die before the truth about that comes out.
That was an odd choice of hand placement on the cover.
I really hope the trend of super puff muscular bodies goes away soon. Whatever happened to being lean with muscular definition? It looks so much better! Hiddleston, Dominic Cooper, Gyllenhaal when he’s not bulked up for movies. Or every tennis player out there! That’s sexy.
Agree totally. Give me one of those lean, tight swimmer bodies any day. Swoon. Having said that, the Rock makes me light headed. He’s the only one I can pant over with his big, muscular self.
You can have those guys, I’ll take Captain America’s ass.
I think he looks great.
I appreciate the subtle shade in how he differentiates himself from the 2 other Chris’. I see him as the thinking mans phuckboi.
He’s such a douche canoe, but a good looking one.
Men’s Health is hilarious. Picked up this issue because of Pine and pretty much every article is about getting ripped or jacked. Or jacked and ripped. He does have a point – weight gain/loss diets can’t be healthy.
I’ve always been the least into him of the Chris Quartet (Pine, Hemsworth, Evans, Pratt). Pratt is my fave personally.
Same. He is my least fav of the four. His eye color is just so creepy. My list goes Evans, Pratt, Hemsworth and Pine a distant last.
Yea he’s bottom of the barrel for me too. Mine’s Pratt, Evans, Hemsworth and I suppose Pine (though I honestly forget about him most of the time and don’t include him in the Chrises lol)
I agree. Evans, Pratt, Hemsworth, Pine for me. I like Pine as Captain Kirk, but I just can’t get into him in other movies. Whereas I always like Evans in anything he does; even if the movie is terrible (and he’s made quite a few terrible ones) he’s always good in them. I like Pratt for his personality, and I really liked Hemsworth in Rush (though Thor bores me).
I don’t know why but neither of Chrises is doing it for me. You ladies can have all three of them
HONK.
He’s my favorite Chris. Those aren’t great photos of him, but I think he’s far better looking than the other three.
