Ali Fedotowsky reschedules Mexican wedding due to Zika virus

Former Bachelorette and E! News Host Ali Fedotowsky is rescheduling her wedding plans for a second time. Originally she and fiancé Kevin Manno were going to get married last January but postponed those plans when they found out they were expecting their first child. They relocated the wedding to a villa in Mexico, scheduled for after their baby is due, but those plans have been scrapped for a much more serious reason: the Zika virus. Although her child would likely be safe to travel to Mexico, Ali and Kevin were concerned for their guests, most of whom are in some stage of family planning, and the risk the Zika virus posed to them.

Ali Fedotowsky has another wedding to plan.

The former Bachlorette star — who is expecting her first child with fiance Kevin Manno — reveals to The Knot that she is calling off her wedding in Mexico because of fears over the Zika virus, which if contracted while pregnant, has been linked to birth defects. “Originally, we planned the whole wedding in Mexico,” Fedotowsky shares. “We were super excited. We found the most amazing location and villa that would allow our entire family to stay with us. Then, all the news broke about the Zika virus and we had to cancel.”

Fedotowsky and Manno also had their guests in mind when canceling the nuptials. “It was such a huge disappointment,” the 31-year-old former reality star says. “Even though we won’t be pregnant when we get married, we just didn’t think it was fair to ask our guests to travel to a location with active Zika virus transmissions… Most of our friends are in ‘baby mode,’ and that just wasn’t a fair ask.”

This is the second time the two have postponed their wedding since getting engaged. “We actually also planned a wedding in California for January 2016, and we ended up pushing that back too because we found out I was pregnant,” she adds. “Could we have kept the date? Sure. But I like to celebrate and celebrate with champagne!”

Although I am sure this was a big disappointment to Ali and Kevin, I don’t think there was any other choice. The Centers of Disease Control and Prevention lists Mexico among the countries to be avoided by women who are pregnant or thinking about becoming pregnant due to Zika. It showed both consideration and foresight. I feel for them, though. I think after the second postponement I’d have found the nearest courthouse or bought a ticket to Vegas.

Ali has been struggling with her pregnancy of late. Although healthy, she misses her old figure and a glass of wine. On her blog, she wrote a post recently reflecting on her feelings about her pregnancy. This is the kind of pregnancy/motherhood stuff I appreciate. The fact is, sometimes it sucks for completely superficial reasons and it just feels better to know someone else feels the same way.

Last bit of Ali baby news, you can see pictures of their professionally decorated nursery here. The silk flowers wall is mesmerizing to me. It is completely impractical and will need to be dusted all the time for the baby’s sake but I can’t stop looking at it.

Sounds like she made the conscientious choice and didn’t just think of herself. Good for Ali.

  2. Detritus says:

The wall flowers, or really, flower wall is crazy. I was expecting some silk flowers, not a Kim and Kanye wedding homage.
I guess this is what happens when you never clean your own house?

  3. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

That’s a shame, but I think she did the right thing. That nursery is awful. Very bland and cold.

  4. what's inside says:

Good decision. I wish more would think like this.

  5. MrsBPitt says:

    Excellent decision….better safe, than sorry!

  6. Lama Bean says:

Would have to dust it all the time? 😂😂😂😂

    • MrsBPitt says:

Can you imagine when the baby is old enought to stand in her crib…pulling those flowers off and, pop, right in the mouth! Very dumb idea….

    • JudyK says:

When I first glanced at the nursery, I thought that was a soft, muted wallpaper and thought it was very pretty, then I looked again and those are REAL silk flowers on the wall. WHAT!!!!!!

How utterly ridiculous…great place for spiders to gather next to a crib. There’s no way to dust those things. Great example of excess (someone with more money than they know what to do with) exceeding common sense.

It would be lovely as a wallpaper or some sort of image. Actual silk flowers covering a whole wall? No. The dust! So much dust.

    • detritus says:

don’t babies projectile expel all the things too?
Have fun (poor maid) cleaning the poop/vomit out of those flowers.

      • JudyK says:

And, as MrsBPitt said, good luck to the maid on performing CPR when the baby pulls one down and chokes on it. This is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen.

Clearly designed by someone with NO experience with babies. Besides the choking hazard of the baby grabbing those off the wall, I’m thinking of all the body fluids that go flying around in a nursery. Babies poop, throw up, pee-and that stuff gets everywhere.

The little shelving thing isn’t baby-safe, either. The room doesn’t look like a warm and cozy nursery. If they wanted a wall like that, why not go with a wallpaper? Where are the toys and diapers going to be stored? And I just can’t get over that wall.

  8. Embee says:

I love the wall of flowers! Sure it’s a choking hazard but surely she will pull the crib away from them? I remember seeing someone’s (Brooke Burke?) nursery with all these ribbons etc done for effect that were horribly dangerous for baby…they don’t actually keep them up.

As for her blog post, I don’t have anything encouraging to say. If she thinks it’s hard to be herself NOW she is likely to really struggle once the little one is here. I don’t wish to undermine her struggles with pregnancy but what her doctor told her is very, very true: they are much easier in than out. Mine is now 6 and I feel like I am only starting to get my life back. Little ones are a LOT of work and leave very little time or energy for “me time.”

I always thought and still think she is so cute. Literally, she has the sweetest face!
