Ariana Grande got a head start on her birthday celebration with a special gift from one of her BFFs that may or may not make you jealous. Ariana, who turned 23 yesterday, got a package on Friday from Kylie Jenner filled with makeup from her massively popular collection. Of course, Ariana lost it and took to Snapchat to show off her b-day haul. Not only did she take pictures of some of her favorite shades from the collection (Mary Jo K and Candy K, if you needed to know), she also took snaps of her Mom, Joan, rocking one of the shades – a dark blue that makes her look like a frozen cadaver, if you ask me.
Nice gift, and great publicity for Kylie, right? Just last week, Kylie announced 2 new shades being added to her collection. The 2 blue hues (Why?) are the electric blue Skylie and the navy blue Freedom. They are ridiculous, right? No one over the age of 21 would wear them. Twitter lost its damn mind over them, and some tweeters were thinking exactly what I was thinking, mainly that it appears that one may have gotten intimate with a smurf.
In addition to the Twitterverse’s somewhat adverse reaction to the new shades, beauty bloggers have uncovered that Kylie’s collection may not be quite the prestige cosmetics they’re promoted as. Beauty blogger Stephanie Nicole is one of many of her ilk who have noticed that the most recent lip kits have been reformulated and that the resulting shades are markedly different than their predecessors. Stephanie said the new product is a “huge downgrade” from the original. It’s also been noted that Kylie’s lip color, which retails for $29, is from the same company that makes Colourpop lipsticks, which sell for a mere $6 and seem to have the same formula. Of course you’re paying for the name, but that’s crazy. Kylie has yet to weigh in on “lip gate.”
I don’t get the crazy popularity of these cosmetics, but I buy all of my makeup at Target, so I guess I’m not the audience for this stuff. (Give me NYX any day.) I guess it’s a nice gift though. My birthday isn’t until April, so if you all want to start saving up, Target gift cards would be awesome.

I like how the Daily Mail describes Ariana’s mother” Grande matriarch” that is cool. The shade of makeup she put on is hideous. Not a good look
I won’t buy anything Kardashian branded, ever. If I was going to, I damn sure wouldn’t be choosing a liquid lipstick. I find they don’t flatter the majority of people who wear them.
I recently needed to buy a new flat iron for my hair. I am not bound to any one brand so I picked out one that seemed good enough. As I was walking to the register I spotted the Kardashian name on the packaging. I turned around, put it back on the shelf and picked out something else.
Good for you. I can’t believe anyone buys their crap.
Grande is 23 yo ?!
I thought she was 16 yo.
She looks like Maleficent in that hideous makeup. Someone needs to tell the emporer he’s not wearing any clothes.
The blue shades are horrible. Also, Kylies lips look very plumped up again. So plastic and painful.
” Of course, Ariana lost it “. Why? Are they donut flavored?
You win. Drop the mic!
The original Kylie Lip Kit formula was actually really good (or so I’ve learned from a YouTube reviewer that I trust). However, they since changed the formula so that it has all the same ingredients as the Colourpop liquid lipsticks, though some ingredients are in a different order and therefore are present in different concentrations. So they’re slightly different and from what I’ve been told by the previously mentioned trusted YouTube reviewer, they’re slightly worse and they cost a lot more. There are far better liquid lipsticks out there and anyone who invests in Kylie’s liquid lipsticks because of her name on them boggle my mind.
I have to confess, my sister and I bought the Kylie lip kits and they just arrived on Friday. We wanted to see how they were and if they were all that they’re cracked up to be.
I also own a few colourpop lipsticks and while they are extremely similar I have to say that the Kylie ones are slightly better. They last a bit longer and you can’t even tell you’re wearing a lipstick (unlike other lipsticks where it feels like a coating on your lips sucking out all the moisture). The colourpop ones are a very good lipstick in comparison to every other liquid lipstick I’ve ever owned (even better than Kat Von D and Jeffree Star, I have yet to try LimeCrime) and I would recommend that people buy that lipstick instead of Kylie’s, they’re just a bit too expensive when you consider that you can get a very similar lipstick for 6$.
Just a heads up, it’s better to avoid buying from LimeCrime. Around two or three years ago, so many of their customers’ bank account got cleaned out soon after buying their products. Some lost thousands of dollars and many of them were students… Turns out their website was hacked and all their credit card info got leaked and the company knew about the leak but did not warn their customers. Let’s say the hacking happened at October, and only on December or January (when the customers finally realized what was happening and started to flood her Instagram account with angry comments) did the CEO, Doe Deere, admitted that there was a leak. It’s just disturbing how the company deals simply turns a blind eye to the leak and let months pass by and hundred thousands of dollars being wiped out off their customers’ accounts..
I ADORE Colourpop stuff I have I’d say about 8 shades of the liquid Matte ones and then the lippies, I mix and Match those suckers day in day Out, also Loving their highlighters
@Mika
You took the words right out of my mouth.
Use buy Lime Crime-no longer.
So she used a better formula just long enough to get good reviews, then forgot that people with a brain will notice a change … The only reason to change a formula that people liked so soon would be to use cheaper materials in smaller amounts, and possibly from a different source that uses cheaper labor, so the profit per piece increases dramatically.
Yea the colors are so stupid. CP is great though I have a few and the colors last and are super pigmented for a $6 tube. I would never buy a K branded anything really. Kylie is also about to open a makeup store because ÂŻ_(ă)_/ÂŻ
Eh, I like colourful make-up. It doesn’t have to be so serious all the time, not everyone wants to wear a flattering rosy nude every day of their lives.
Kylie’s lip kits are ok. They are still quite different than Colourpop (same ingredients doesn’t equal same formulation at all). The metallics are really nice, the lip kits are a bit of a rip off if you don’t care about the liner.
I’m not going to say what her nude lips remind me of, but it’s not something I’d want to kiss.
Lol, I get it. Hehe. Yeah, i hate that color.
I’m 20 and I love liquid lipsticks but I’ve never really get the whole hype around these expensive, almost always out-of-stock, overrated kylie lip kits. When it first came out,it was sold out within the first 15 minutes! And there were only 3 colours back then..smh. I’m in college and have limited budget anyway so I stick with Colourpop (even Colourpop is already so damn expensive in my country) but even if I’m rich, I don’t think I’ll buy her lip kits…
NYX Liquid Suede YAS
No thank you. Like many have said above, Colourpop is a cheaper dupe, besides I’m not buying anything from the Klan. I think 3 of her kits are almost 100$?
Stephanie Nicole is a great beauty vlogger . Her Jeffrey Star video made me respect the hell out of her. Plus she gives really great in-depth reviews.
I’m a big makeup collector and have head from multiple people her lip kits aren’t worth the money. Honestly even if they were though, I would never give a Kardashian my money.
Ugh that red dress is so unflattering and so is the makeup! Who did that make up? She looks like she has the micro-brows of a rottweiler. The dress doesn’t go with that hair at all and the whole get-up is just NO. She looks sooo much better in the blue dress below.
I’m so happy to see Stephanie Nicole mentioned here, she’s a really great beauty vlogger, very honest and very well informed. She is one of only a few I watch on YouTube these days.
As for the rest of this article, you couldn’t pay me to buy anything Jenner/Lardassian related.
I am really annoyed about Kylie’s marketing method for the lipsticks. She sells on them on the internet on some unannounced day and then they instantly sellout.
My 17 year old has been bugging me for MONTHS to get her a ….gawd I don’t remember the color name, Sand Shark. Whatever. I cannot get near one anyway. Really bugs me.
Sounds as though she is deliberately producing small runs to keep the price up way beyond comparable ones, making it seem as something that is so popular it just accidentally goes out of stock so fast, golly gee she didn’t expect that, oops. She must be pretty confident that her market will wait for the next tiny run rather than do the sensible thing and go elsewhere.
I would be very cautious about believing anything she says about the actual size of production runs.
She must have learned the small run/ get sold out tactic from Kanye. He’s infamous for doing that with his alleged fashion. Makes it seem far more popular than it is. Seems like a stupid business model to me, but her main market might be young enough that it works. Old Kardashian trick, scamming the young and inexperienced.
I’m about to turn 39 and I wear blue and purple shades from other brands. I think it is sad and hilarious when people say stuff like people over a certain age would never be caught wearing stuff like blue lipstick.
