Calvin Harris’s new song ‘Olé’ isn’t really a Taylor Swift-specific diss track

One of the best things to come out of The Great & Glorious Tiddlebanging of 2016 is that Calvin Harris just cannot let it go. And the fact that Calvin Harris has been so public about his inability to let it go is extra-amazing. Since Tiddles became a thing, Calvin Harris has run to TMZ at least a half-dozen times to chime in as a “source close to Calvin Harris.” Anyway, yesterday we heard that Calvin Harris had written a breakup song/diss track about Taylor Swift, only it was a song from the perspective of Tom Hiddleston. Lyrically, it did seem to fit the Tiddle situation, sort of. But sources close to Taylor Swift want you to know that Calvin Harris is MADE OF LIES.

Calvin Harris was working on his so-called cheating song long before Taylor Swift hooked up with Tom Hiddleston … according to several sources. According to the sources, Taylor knew all about “Olé” because Calvin started writing it before Tom was in the picture. One source told us, “If Calvin claims he wasn’t working on this before the Met Ball, he’s lying.”

The Met Ball in early May is a key moment in the breakup. You’ll recall Calvin did not go to the gala with Taylor … and she was seen dancing the night away with Hiddleston that night. Here’s the rub. In the song, Calvin wrote, “Low key you won’t tell none of your friends about me.” As you know, Tom famously play Loki in ‘Thor.’ Using the words “low key” would be a big coincidence. Nevertheless, we’re told Taylor’s convinced Calvin is just trying to market his tune with a cheap trick.

[From TMZ]

You see, Calvin? You’re not the only one who can run to TMZ and get them to publish a story! While I think it’s absolutely possible/probable that Calvin was working on “Olé” before the Met Gala, I also think it’s possible that there were some last-minute lyric changes? Still, Team Calvin Harris wants you to know that the story they leaked to TMZ yesterday was total bulls—t. A Team Calvin source told E! News last night:

“This song has nothing to do with Taylor. He likes this song a lot. People can interpret the song how they want to, but in the end it’s just an artist expression.”

Another insider explains to E! News that this song was created months before the Taylor drama happened. So there’s that. Regardless, the lyrics prove to tell a story about a juicy cheating scandal.

“My heart speaks/ I ain’t seen you or been with you for weeks/ But I see online that you’ve begun to be/ A good girl and take trips with your boyfriend/ Being attentive, continue to pretend,” Newman sings in one verse. “But no, cause there’s no telling how far you can go/ You’ve hidden my name on your phone so you can/ Call me to tell me you’ve been going through hell/ Left him alone and you booked in a hotel.”

[From E! News]

The rest of that E! story is about how John Newman and Calvin Harris were talking about the song back in April, which definitely sounds like it was done and in the can for several months now. So was Calvin Harris just prophetic about the situation he would find himself in? Were there some last-minute lyric changes so the song would become more Swifty-specific? I have no idea.

Update: Here’s the song. It’s terrible!

Well, I chose to believe it’s about Taylor and TOM.
Even if he start working on the song before Met Gala, it doesn’t mean he didn’t work on it after.

    • Erinn says:

I don’t think the lyrics work with the theory.

“you’ve begun to be/ A good girl and take trips with your boyfriend”

Taylor was taking trips with CH for a while, was she not? It wasn’t a case of her ‘beginning’ to do so. Within months of dating they were together in different states for concerts and award show type events. So if it’s supposed to be from Tom’s perspective, that part doesn’t really work.

      • Laura says:

You’re being extremly literal. I don’t think it’s meant to be a chronological account.

  2. Hannah says:

Of course Taylor own sources would say it’s not about her and Tom Hilarious how quickly her team ran to shut this down 😂

    • Cricket says:

Totally agree.. and how precious to call it a ‘cheap trick’ from Miss Queen of Cheap Tricks.. love that she is having her usual MO thrown back at her..

In regards to the timing.. didn’t we read in one of the many Tiddles posts that Calvin suspected she was cheating on him a while ago. How do any of us really know the real timeline of the birth of Tiddles? Plus, didn’t she start following him on Twitter or whatever months before the Met Gala?

Instead of the sound being called Ole.. maybe he should have called it Touche …. lol

      • Tiffany :) says:

” didn’t we read in one of the many Tiddles posts that Calvin suspected she was cheating on him a while ago”

But that was after he ran to TMZ and was saying that he dumped her because she wanted marriage and babies and a forever home with Calvin. He’s trying to save face by saying that she was cheating, but it just looks weak and petty since he was saying the exact opposite immediately after the break up.

Taylor certainly has flaws, but “Calvin” seems so pathetic to me.

  3. margaret says:

    It’s totally about them.

    • Hannah says:

Especially this line sung from the point of Tom (lowkey)

“I can’t control myself when I am around you! I can’t control myself when I am around you!! Olee! “😂😂😂

  4. Talie says:

He’s used to steam-rolling over his exes, but Taylor is a different beast. Oh, well…typical male ego BS.

    • Mo says:

The irony! Taylor is used to steamroll over her exes -.break up songs for everyone of them. He’s just giving her a taste of her own medicine. To speak on hurt ego is funny. If that’s how you see it Taylor is the queen of hurt ego.

    • Cricket says:

From what I read about Rita Ora.. She cheated on him.. her hit song – he wrote and produced as well as the album she was about to release – Calvin put in many hours writing and producing the album so it cost him $$ by stopping the release.

Didn’t Rita Ora also cheat on Rob Kardashian? So how is Calvin the steam roller?

  5. Chelsey says:

    Sure, Jan.

  6. Bridget says:

The way he acts, one would think that this was the first time Calvin hasn’t come out on top. At what point does he just admit defeat and step back?

  7. Kita says:

Ha, National Enquirer may soon say that Calvin’s song was *still* actually from Tom’s perspective, but in the sense that Tom is hiding Elizabeth Olson’s phone number and talking to her about how his life is hell, while being a good boyfriend going places, pretending. WE SEE HOW YOU ALL CONNECT THESE STORIES! All from The Source, baby.

There you go, Sixer and others. Plot twist. 😉

  8. margaret says:

It seems she cheated Calvin with Tom since Met Gala. Tom arrivied to the Met Gala After Party at Up and Down Nightclub in one of Taylor Swift’s cars, and was immediately escorted inside by her Personal Security guard, Jimmy.

  9. Mo says:

Sorry I believe Calvin. T &T have been hooking up on the down low for some time. Imao.

  10. nicole says:

If he didn’t write this about Taylor it is somehow even more embarrassing because it is an awful song. At the very least if it was about TayTom then we can forgive him as it was rushed and based in this weird insane press situation. Now he has no excuses for the whole song.

  11. Lynnie says:

Is the song good though? Taylor’s had the success she’s had in trashing her exes, because all her songs about them were hits. Calvin is only going to win this round if this song becomes his next smash.

    • Mo says:

It’s a John Newman single. Calvin wrote and produced it. It’s not released in his name. It’s not EDM. It’s a laid back chill out tune. I don’t think it will be a huge single for those reason. He’s still winning though his single with Riri is like number 3 on billboard right now,

      • Lynnie says:

Ohhhh. That sucks for John then. To have your work overshadowed by some petty feuds. Hopefully it drives traffic/listeners over to it and he benefits from that. I’m in the mood for some laid back tunes though haha. Love trap and edm, but after a while I need to give my brain a break.

That’s great about his single being number 3! Too bad it’s not one of his best songs lol

  12. RuddyZooKeeper says:

I haven’t heard the song. Don’t care about the song. I know nothing about the level of talent we are dealing with here. I just wonder why no one can believe that songwriters can write anything that’s not purely autobiographical or taken directly from a page of their life experience. I wrote songs years ago and sold them to other performers for their use – pretty good songs that were zero reflection of my life and times. Why must we always assume it’s personal these days? Because it sells, I guess? The whole Coal Miner’s Daughter thing? You connect the music to the performer so you buy it AND you buy it? Ugh. Can we just go back to music touching MY life instead of reminding me of the “artist” and theirs. Music for my enjoyment instead of their ongoing cat fight or catharsis?

  13. Harryg says:

The singer of this song has one of the most annoying voices ever.

  14. K.C. says:

I don’t care if it’s about them or not. Taylor does this all the time to her exes, so it’s fair game, and she’s busy Tiddlesbanging, so I doubt she gives a hoot. He could’ve reworked some of the lyrics last minute to fit (the “low-key” thing cracks me up). Or the media could just be skewing it to drum up more headlines. Meh.

  15. Cricket says:

I wanted to listen to the song but it’s gone now 🙁

  16. OriginallyBlue says:

Honestly, I do think Calvin is over it and is not as invested as people are trying to make it seem. It bugged me that people were saying that Calvin went to the media and was using sources to make Taylor look bad after the break up. Anyone can contact a tabloid, claiming to be from whatever camp they want, especially someone as calculating and powerful as Taylor. All these stories supposedly came out from Calvin and Taylor never responded, just waited for those Rhode Island pics to come out. It doesn’t seem unbelievable that Taylor knows how people feel about her and decided to switch up the storyline a bit and have a new image. Old Taylor would not have ended one relationship and jumped into another in a week. Now look, (some) people think she is this unbothered desired woman wanted by 2 men instead of a clingy girl who can’t let go. Calvin could just ignore it, but why should he? He is still being dragged into this mess, so why no clarify what people are writing about him. Look at the narrative now that he is speaking, “Taylor has upgraded and Calvin is pining over her”, “Calvin talked sh*t and Taylor came out on top” All because of what we think we know.

    • Laura says:

This! It’s like some people choose to believe any sources just because it’s Calvin. People mag had sources from hiddlestons fam and its was like oh no they would never too classy,There’s too much of a pick and choose mentality since people are invested in this or that celebrity,

Calvin himself has not said he dumped her. When they first broke up he released that statement said there was a lot of respect and love, he dismissed all the other rumours as BS. He’s not actually said anything else, he hasn’t changed his story like people her like to say,

      • Starkiller says:

I am fed up with the “classy” narrative. What exactly makes these people “classy”? Their “noble blood”? Their accents? They may well be classy, I certainly don’t know them, but unless you know them personally, you can no more vouch for their alleged “classiness” than anyone else.

This looks taken from some high school movie scene in which the most popular couple in school breaks up in an incredibly messy and public way…oh, wait.

  18. Laura says:

The singer on the Calvin Harris track which is apparently aimed at Harris’s ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston today said: “People make good and bad decisions — and sometimes it’s on camera.”
“In apparent reference to Hiddleston’s Avengers character Loki, it says: “Low key you won’t tell none of your friends about me.”

When pressed about the meaning, Newman said: “Life’s life. People make good decisions and bad decisions, and they’ll do what they want, and sometimes it’s on camera”

    taylor diss track

  20. LM says:

Wait, hasn’t he been cheating on her for years? I remember a massage parlor thing. Things probably started to go downhill from there.
My first boyfriend cheated on my and after a few months, I did take him back BUT things were never the same and eventually, I broke up with him.

  21. Musiclover says:

    Interesting lyrics lol!
Calvin denied a previous track was about Rita ora. Video: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uzAC0Gr7Z-Q
He would do the same thing if this track isn’t about tay tay.

  22. LauraH says:

Noooooo no no no stop buying into it come on it’s not real! Here playing us for idiots.

The relationship was fake. Served them both for a while.

The thing with Tom is also fake. And planned. She danced with him at the Met gala and got press to flaunt it to test how people would respond to them as a couple. It went well. All set.

Calvin and her PR people negotiate how to handle the breakup to make all parties look good. He writes a single ready to promote that will stir things up and get great promotion. He’s back all over snap chat.

She has an album to release soon contractually. She gets to control her image as this sweet fun loving girl not an asexual or possibly lesbian control freak and take some of the attention away from other things including the Kanye video. She can’t write about her break up as she is all to aware she will get bad responses for that but she can write about this new fun happy relationship that’s all over the news.

Tom wants Bond and has a film coming up and is just generally thirsty and self promoting. Happy for paparazzi to be called everywhere, photographers to follow him around.

Of course Calvin wrote the song ages ago yet it’s this perfect. It’s all too much of a competent fake looking set up to be anything else.

  23. AllieC says:

I’m so lost with these immature control freaks. How pathetic that your life is revolved around your image and media placement rather than being authentic? It’s exhausting. IMO, the Calvin/Taylor relationship was just PR. Maybe she met a guy she really likes and then got rid of the fake BF? Maybe the new one is fake too. All I know…Taylor seems completely nuts, but I’ll still buy her music.
