Modern Family’s Sofia Vergara celebrated her 44th birthday in Los Angeles on Sunday night. Guests, including hubby Joe Manganiello’s co-star and BFF, Paul Reubens (better known as Pee-Wee Herman), celebrated with Sofia and her 23-year-old son, Manolo. The party had a lemon theme, featuring lemon decorations, a lemon cake, a limoncello bar and cocktails with lemon-flavored vodka. My kind of party. Sofia even had her own custom Snapchat filter with a “Feliz Cumpleaños, Sofia” banner.
Side note: I was trying to figure out the connection between lemons and parties. Heed my advice, do NOT Google “Lemon Party.” That is something you cannot unsee. Here’s what it means though. (SFW)
Sofia’s party was rather spur of the moment, or so she says. She told Extra that she made no plans because, “I thought I was not going to be in town…I organized something really fast last week, so it’s just going to be, like, a dinner; it’s not going to be that big or that crazy, it’s just going to be simple, ’cause I thought I really was going to be in New York.” Looking at some of the pictures from the festivities, her party looked nothing like my spontaneous celebrations, which usually involve a 12-pack of Michelob Ultra, a pizza from the local Mom and Pop parlor and lots of store brand tortilla chips and salsa. Yes, I’m jealous.
It’s obvious Sofia’s sense of humor has been passed down to Manolo. On Snapchat he modeled a lemon costume next to a lemon tree with the caption “My family tree.” He later posted a video to Instagram, wishing his Mom a happy birthday and then being jokingly urged out of frame by Sofia before he reveals her age. Later, Sofia donned the lemon costume and damned if she didn’t look gorgeous in that too.
Sofia and Joe enjoyed a pre-party dinner at Studio City Mexican restaurant Maradentro. Nothing says “I love you” more than fajitas and chips and salsa. Really. I’m sure the dinner was romantic, especially because Joe looks like the hunky cover of every romance novel I’ve ever seen. In keeping with the theme of birthday romance, Joe posted a photo from their wedding with the caption, “¡Feliz Cumpleaños para mi amor!” That’s Spanish for “We are the best looking couple in showbiz. Suck it, haters.” Not really.
Don’t you want to hang with this family? I sure do. I wonder what presents Sofia got for her big day. But, really, the woman is married to Joe Manganiello for Pete’s sake. That should be her one and only birthday present every year. Feliz Cumpleaños anyway, Sofia.

I love it! Cute and fun, and I appreciate immensely that while she obviously cares about presenting a lovely, stylish home and party, she’s not so uptight about it that she can’t enjoy it.

They were seated next to us in a restaurant here in Boston last year when Manolo was graduating from Emerson. There was lots of laughter, lots of hugging, Manolo is adorable and Sofia and Joe are a stunning couple.
I would love to hang with them some more.

They were part of a large group that must have been her extended family and they were all having a great time. Joe seemed to fit right in with them all.
