Sometime around the age of 22, I stopped paying attention to any of the MTV awards shows. The Video Awards peaked (in my opinion) in the 1990s, and the Movie Awards were never really that great, except when several of the better comedians showed up and acted wild. Like the time Jim Carrey showed up as a Jim Morrison-esque stoned hippie. That was a good show. But now a whole new generation is having their movie thrills, and they want to see their kinds of movies honored. Movies like Twilight, High School Musical 3, and Wanted. Thus, the 2009 MTV Movie Award nominees have been released.
It’s about what you’d expect. Angelina Jolie is nominated in three categories, all for her performance in Wanted – Best Kiss (with James McAvoy), Best Female Performance, and Best WTF Moment (for curving the bullet). “Best WTF Moment” is a new category, and Angelina is nominated against Jason Segel and Kristin Bell (naked break-up in Forgetting Sarah Marshall), Ben Stiller (tasting the decapitated head in Tropic Thunder), the Slumdog Millionaire scene where the kid jumps into the poop, and Amy Poehler (for peeing in the sink in Baby Mama).
Angelina Jolie is being honored her smooching skills.
The actress, 33, scored three MTV Movie Award nominations, including “Best Kiss” for her lip-lock with James McAvoy in Wanted. She is also up for “Best Female Performance” and “Best WTF Moment,” a new category, for her “curved bullet kill scene.”
Twilight leads the show, however, with seven nominations, including “Best Movie,” “Best Female Performance” (Kristen Stewart) and “Breakthrough Performance Male” (Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner).
Slumdog Millionaire follows, with six nominations, including “Best Movie.”
Also vying for the honor? The Dark Knight, High School Musical 3: Senior Year and Iron Man.
Late actor Heath Ledger also earned a “Best Villain” nomination for his role as the Joker in The Dark Knight.
Votes can be cast online through May 27 for all categories except “Best Movie.” Voting in that category will remain open through the live show, airing May 31 at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, Calif. Andy Samberg serves as host.

I expect Twilight and The Dark Knight to pick up the bulk of the awards, with Robert Pattinson probably taking Breakthrough Performance and Best Kiss with Kristen Stewart. Yes, even I don’t think Angelina and James stand a chance against R-Pattz and K-Stew. Proabably because Angelina and James had about zero sexual chemistry. But here’s the biggest question: will Andy Samberg be funny as host? I actually love Samberg, even though I think he’s kind of self-indulgent with his weird sense of humor. Standing alone as a host is sink or swim time, and I’m not sure Samberg’s up for it!
oh jeez, and if they do win for Best Kiss, I’m sure the audience will expect the 2 to kiss and make it totally awkward. Can’t wait for Kristen and Rob to be more awkward in the spotlight than they are now!
with those lips no wonder angelina has been voted!
ok. so i’m rotting for twilight to take home best kiss. i have the feeling it took them about a zillion takes for any of their kisses, and getting them to do it on stage un-coached could very well be the highlight of my year.
Twillight the best kiss? They took ONE HOUR to have a kiss in that movie and it wasnt very hot…I miss True Blood.
Best Acting Award – Jolie for the Scarecrow in “The Oz 2008” somehow MTV makes up for the lost Oscar and GG.
Actually Jolie should win for best acting…for the “HE IS NOT MY SON” ‘face at Changelling. It was priceless. So funny!
soooo tired hearing about Twilight…
Hands down, best kiss ever was Rachel McAdams/Ryan Gosling in the Notebook.
No one can compare.
*dreamy sigh*
Annie, great kiss scene I agree.
One of my favorites was Richard Gere & Julia Ormond in First Knight.
The sexiest & most celebrated…
Burt Lancaster & Deborah Kerr in From Here to Eternity.
I was thinking about voting, but I’m not going to bother. Twilight and the Dark Knight are going to sweep the board.
Although I really want TDK to win for the best fight scene. Twilight is nominated for that when it really shouldn’t have been. That wasn’t a real fight.
I’m surprised they don’t allow voting on Best Movie, though if they did, “Twilight” would win for sure, even over “Slumdog Millionaire.” That would be a travesty.
