J.K. Rowling to release three new Harry Potter Books

Good news for Potterheads! The indomitable J.K. Rowling has just announced that she is releasing three new Harry Potter books on her Pottermore website. The new stories titled,Hogwarts: An Incomplete and Unreliable Guide, Short Stories from Hogwarts of Power, Politics and Pesky Poltergeists and Short Stories from Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardship and Dangerous Hobbies offer new, detailed information about Hogwarts and the colorful characters who either taught or attended there. The eBooks will be downloadable for $3 a piece and will be released on September 6.

Potterheads still reeling from excitement following the arrival of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child may want to sit down for this: J.K. Rowling is set to release three new Harry Potter books on Pottermore.

Taking the form of short eBooks called Pottermore Presents, they’ll delve into the secrets of the Harry Potter characters and universe. Scheduled for release on Sept. 6, the books will include original writings by Rowling and information drawn from the Pottermore archives. They’ll detail everything from the terrible past of Azkaban prison to the inner workings of the Ministry of Magic, and also feature an original piece on Horace Slughorn.

“Pottermore Presents is intended to supplement the Harry Potter book series with short-form content that is entertaining and thematically curated by the Pottermore editorial team,” Pottermore CEO Susan Jurevics tells Time.

The Pottermore website also promises a “new piece of writing from J.K. Rowling on Minerva McGonagall, and her involvement in the second wizarding war,” as well as “why the Black family bestow such odd names to their children, how a witch or wizard becomes a portrait, or what J.K. Rowling really thinks about Professor Umbridge.”

[From People]

Exciting, right? Except for one small thing – I need to get J.K. an extinguisher because her PANTS ARE ON FIRE! I just had to relay J.K.’s crushing announcement after the curtain call of Cursed Child that, “Harry is done now.” Done – as in no more, gone, arrivederci. And then bam! Three new stories appear. You’re killing me Jo! I suppose she gets off on a technicality because the new stories are supplemental information on the history and inner-workings of Hogwarts and the focus of the stories are characters other than Harry himself. So maybe he doesn’t appear and that’s why she felt so free to crush our souls during our Cursed Child high.

Maybe J.K. is just too busy to remember all of her prior statements? Doing things like trying to understand Olympic cycling or getting Quidditch in the Olympics. Whatever the reason, the new books are sure to be societally relevant. Fantastic Beasts’ star Alison Sudol told Entertainment Weekly of the upcoming movie, “There’s all kinds of things going on in our world right now concerning immigration and tensions between different groups. There’s a lot about segregation in this film, a lot about fear of the ‘other.’ … J.K. Rowling has tapped into really deep and pertinent issues.” J.K. has already released supplemental information on Ilvermorny for the Fantastic Beasts series, with the release of new Hogwarts stories, I think the one thing we truthfully know is that J.K. can’t let go of that world any more than we can.

    No, please stop!

    • InvaderTak says:

This. Enough already. She’s going to destroy it.

    • Lurker says:

eto, I was so with you when I saw the headline, and Harry Potter gave me life for so many years, but enough is enough… But, they are just short info books, not new novels. So yeah, I’ll totally buy them 🤓🤓🤓

    • Lady Mimosa says:

Lol,I know, not hate all she can write is Harry Potter, you can tell she lives in the Potter world, by her tweets.

      • SKF says:

Lady Mim, she actually writes a great detective series (2 books so far) and also wrote The Casual Vacancy – which was quite dark. She can definitely wrote non-Potter stuff and different genres.

      • Lauren says:

She can totally write non Harry Potter stories, but they weren’t as well received because “they were normal, real life” related stuff.

Fantastic! Best news of the day.
Sidebar- I’m having trouble getting through The Cursed Child. But I am rewatching the films now, and I was just saying to Hubs yesterday that I want more info on the Ghosts of Hogwarts. I love that she’s been so into giving us encyclopedias. Can’t wait to read these.

  3. Esmom says:

Selfishly, I wish she’d concentrate more on her non-Potter books. I loved The Casual Vacancy and enjoy her detective series. I do think she has a keen grasp on what’s going on in the world and her “adult” books are great vehicles for that. Although I do understand, from a marketing perspective, that Potter is what really sells.

My son was a huge Harry Potter fan, read the series three times. He wasn’t interested in the newest book at all, he said because he didn’t really care about the new generation. So I’m guessing he won’t be into this other new stuff, either.

  4. Pri says:

I wonder with the cooler response to the Cursed Child and her Livermory stories, if JK should at least slow down a bit…

  5. Lucy says:

I mean, the stories aren’t about Harry per sé, so technically, she wasn’t lying. Personally, I’m all for learning more about young Professor McGonagall! She must have been one cool chick.

  6. Gadel says:

I hope it’s not the same as the garbage that was cursed child or the sloppy American school. I can’t get behind those.

    • pikawho? says:

Sloppy is the right way to describe the American school. Its was just like, “I’ll give it a name that no American would ever use and then I’ll just copy the house thing with some culturally insensitive Native American names! Yes! I just caught lightning in a bottle twice, all before lunch! I’m buying another castle to celebrate!” etc

      • Gadel says:

I feel the same way about the culturally insensitive Native American thing. She should have researched with Native American people and included an honestly inspired section. I was so excited to read about how different tribes excelled at magic and started the school like an Iroquois nation kind of thing (or something else) but it was all white savior/white perspective.

She also really missed opportunities with New Orleans, satanic panic, and Area 51. We have such a culturally diverse, fun, and eccentric magical/occult history here in the USA that, with research and sensitivity, could have made that mess amazing.

  7. Betti says:

I always took that comment to mean that she wasn’t going to write about Harry specifically any more but the stories from the HP world would continue.

I cannot wait for the Beasts movie to come out.

  8. pikawho? says:

I really really did not like the Cursed Child. It was like bad fanfiction. In fact it reminded me of some awful Cassandra Claire fanfic I read as a tween. Scorpius is exactly what Livejournal wanted Draco Malfoy to be circa 2002.

I really don’t like this latter day JK Rowling when it comes to HP. I like her twitter and the theme parks were a great idea, but Pottermore has been a disaster. The new content just isn’t very good. It all seems so half assed, IDK. My expectations for Fantastic Beasts are very low.

I like her adult novels. I think she should focus on that.

    • Gadel says:

      Preach, sister.

    • CuriousCole says:

In fairness, the older Pottermore backstories are great. It actually sounds like these mini-books will contain the same info released online. But I’m with you on the new North American histories, Ilvermorny in particular read as terrible fan fiction.

    • Veronica says:

My friend just started reading it, and her very first comment about it to me was, “I’m pretty sure that I’ve read this fanfic before.” I am also not happy about some of the rumblings I’ve heard about Hermione’s character.

  9. teacakes says:

YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! I’m all for this – the Potterverse is a vast and infinite universe, and even if we get no more Harry Potter stories (which is fine by me), I would love to see stories about other people and things in that world.

  10. Cee says:

Am I the only one unable to pre-order on Amazon? Barnes&Noble and Amazon UK lets youy pre-order 🙁

  11. t.fanty says:

She is definitely writing less that she is admitting for this. I just saw an advert a few days ago for freelance writers to write stories for Pottermore.

  12. Andie88 says:

I’m a huge HP fan and I may be in the minority here but I’d love more books about the wizarding world!! I say bring them on!

  13. G says:

I grew up with the series but I wish she would stop.

  14. Hejhej says:

I wish she would just stop. At least with stuff directly related to the original story. The Cursed Child isn’t good at all – it reads as bad fanfiction :O Also the books were perfect as they were – her constant commenting on their just take away from the perfection IMO.

  15. LAK says:

I’m a huge fan of Harry Potter books. You can imagine my disappointment with the cursed child.
