True story: it sometimes feels like Scarlett Johansson can go a full year without even walking a red carpet. It’s not that she never works or anything, but g—damn, ScarJo is GREAT at going underground. If she doesn’t want to be seen for six months, she will not be seen. It’s a surprising quality in a movie star. Anyway, these are photos of Scarlett in Toronto for the TIFF premiere of her new animated film, Sing. I love her in red! Her blousy dress is by Haney. It looks like an updated version of a costume from Nine-to-Five. My favorite part of this look? ScarJo is keeping her hair pretty short, and it seems like she’s completely borrowed Hillary Clinton’s old hairstyle. I actually wish Hillary would go back to this hairstyle, I think it’s more flattering on Hills than Scars.
As for this animated film… I mean, it’s weird because the concept seems so weirdly obvious. Take the popularity of singing-competition shows and use animated, anthropomorphized animals instead. BAM!
I imagine this will be a huge hit? Right?
I’m also including photos of Reese Witherspoon at the same premiere – Reese wore Ulyana Sergeenko. This looks like a cocktail dress from the 1980s. It’s so weird that both Scarlett and Reese chose such dated looks!
Photos courtesy of WENN.
Reese looks like the twin of her 17-year-old daughter Ava. It’s creepily uncanny!
Scarlett should grow her hair out but she pulls off even this dated look.
What a cute look on RW!
This dated look works better in Reese cause she’s not the fashion girl as Scarlett believes she is.
Absolutely, I love that dress and it’s the first time in a long time that I don’t mind nude heels? They really fit here.
Both cute dresses IMO. Just don’t like the curtain toile pattern of Reeses’ dress.
Same thoughts here.
I think they both look great.
I don’t like Scarlett with the short hair.
her hair game is the worst – EVER – ALWAYS!
Agreed! I don’t understand it!
ScarJo looks terrible. That hair is awful.
The hair works on ScarJo because she did that hipster movie with that old dude. Since “lost in translation” she can do “off” with irony.
Reese makes her dated look look good, and the dress flatters her. Scarlett, no. Dress is awful and the hair just compounds the dated-ness. This whole look is frumpy and aging on her.
Agreed!
I wore something like that in the early 80s.
Scarlett’s outfit, I mean.
Awhen Reese looks sexier than you, you have a problem.
Ha ha, yes, And who’d think RW could out-sexy SJ?
Both look terrible. Scarlett’s dress should have been 15 cm longer and it would have been OK. The other is plain terrible.
Ah…scarlet can do NO wrong in my eyes.
I find the dress elegant with a contemporary flare – not dated at all.
And Reese looks lovely as well.
Perhaps my taste is more classic and timeless.
Both of these looks never go out of style.
Agreed. The dress is classic and quite fitting for an ordinary lady but I understand the sentiment in this post that the dress does not “fit” in a red carpet setting.
I feel like Scarlett just gets better and better looking as she gets older
I know! I wasn’t aware of her until Lucy, and now I can’t see her movies enough. There is something compelling about her, her look and acting.
I feel the same way. I really like her with short hair. I hope she keeps it
Talk about aging gracefully but looking edgy! LOVE Scarjo’s look, and I have to say red hair really doesn’t suit her…Love this dress and colour.
Scarjo isn’t even 32, let’s hope she resists the temptation to get (or, failing all else, overdo) botox and fillers. She seems pretty self-aware about aging in Hollywood = less work, so I hope she doesn’t do anything crazy to her face, it doesn’t need it.
yikes. aging gracefully? our society (if you’re an American) sucks.
I’m a woman myself and I never meant or saw ageing as a negative term
I would wear Scarjo’s dress, I’m all about those pussy-bow blouses and the neck detail+cute silhouette does it for me.
I would not, however, wear her hair but that is because it takes her face to pull it off. It’s totally political-grandma Hillary Clinton hair but on her, weirdly, it’s working.
Both very cute and fresh
80s style is coming back in home decor so it’s prob coming back in fashion too, so their dresses are edgy and new rather than old.
The ’80s are coming back in fashion and they’re definitely back in make-up. All that ‘plum’ lipstick that’s hot right now? Straight out of 1985-88.
The highwaisted shorts and pants. Good gawd they were bad the first time around and make the best butt in the world look like a grandma butt.
Scarlett look is cute and I saw that bow ties are back in, so its not dated as much as a trending fashion redux. Reese’s look is an upholstered 80s or 50s sofa. I don’t like fussy southern belle styles so that’s just me
She looks like a young Hillary Clinton in the header pic.
It’s what the hot secretary wore to the office Christmas luncheon in 1982.
I thought it was Tea Leoni in the header picture! Sometimes Scarlett looks she’s a bobble head squeezed into a dress too small to accentuate her boobs, but she looks so lovely here.
Lucy!
I love Scarlett, but that dress is godawful.
This bright red color really suits Scarlett. But what is noticeable to me right away, though, is not her dress but her “star” quality. She has so much charisma.
I love that color on Scarlet but the hair, NEWP. Reese on the other hand has great styling which works great with the dress.
I really like Reese’s look here, she looks very fresh and the outfit is really flattering to her figure. Scarlett… imo doesn’t pull off outfits and hair like the one she is sporting here. I like her better with longer slightly wavy hair, which softens her face. Being compared to Hillary at 32 is not the look to shoot for.
Love the dress & shoes on her….hair is terrible.
Reece’s dress is terribly unflattering.
I love ScarJo’s dress, the color on her is fabulous!! I’m not a fan of the hair, but she pulls it off better than other stars have. Reese, just NO. Nope, nope, nope. I hate the fabric of the dress, the color AND the buttons. Ugh, it looks terrible.
Reese looks like she stole that off the set of Working Girl.
That’s some bad 90’s soccer mom hair on Scarlett, but she manages to pull it off.
I like SJ more and more each year. Yes, the hair is arguably an ageing style but when everyone else in the industry is desperately trying to look younger, it strikes me as refreshing. And yes, she does just disappear for months at a time, which just goes to show that you can do it if you really want to.
Scarlett looks great. Love her hair. Cute and refreshing compared to all the Housewives of Wherever hair (ahem, Reese).
[*I’d rather see some originality and uniqueness than cookie cutter BORING.*]
