Sarah Jessica Parker: Kim Kardashian is ‘gracious, hospitable & lovely’

kim1

More than a week ago, Sarah Jessica Parker took her son to Kanye West’s Madison Square Garden show. Apparently, her son is a HUGE Kanye West fan. And in turn, Kim Kardashian is a huge SJP fan. Kim Snapchatted the experience of meeting her “idol,” and yes, that’s the word that Kim used. Apparently, Kim and SJP got along really well and Kim got SJP’s son in to meet with Kanye. When SJP was asked about this meeting as she did press in the UK this week, she ended up saying some really nice things about Kim and Kanye. Blasphemy!

What she thought of Kim: “She was lovely. My son is a huge Kanye fan and they were really gracious and allowed him time with Kanye and that was in large part Kim’s doing.” Sarah said she was ‘incredibly impressed’ with the mother-of-two’s ‘graciousness’ and her ‘presence’. She continued: ‘There was a focus that I witnessed, not just with my son – whom she gave a lot of time to – but with everyone in the room. She was never looking over her shoulder, she was hospitable and lovely. It was so cool to watch her with my phone – she took my phone and was like “let me shoot this whole thing” and she shot the whole conversation with Kanye and my son, which was so sweet.’

Does she think Kim is a style icon: “I don’t know what icon means anymore. I don’t think of myself as a style icon. I think Kim obviously has enormous influence and she is more and more aware of what she wants and the images that she chooses to project, which she is in complete control of. I think she is a young woman who is evolving all the time and one shouldn’t make a decision about anybody. She is not baked and done – I’m not either – so let her experiment and delight in the choices she has to make and let’s be kind to one another and be good to one another.”

She loves British snacks: “On an average day I walk, run after the kids, go up and down the stairs and eat and eat! I should be more disciplined about consumption. I love almost anything. I love junk candy more than the finer candy. I love coming to the UK so I can stock up on McVities biscuits with chocolate, Jammy Dodgers and fig rolls. I cannot wait to go and get biscuits; I love them.”

[From The Daily Mail]

People yell at me for repeatedly saying this, but… everyone who meets Kim Kardashian always comments on how she’s very nice and friendly. Like, you can hate her for so many things, but she’s really nice to her fans and to Kanye’s fans and to everyone else. I also like what SJP says about Kim’s fashion and look, and I feel like that’s a pointed comment at Kim’s detractors who judge her for what she is and is not wearing. As for British snacks… what are Jammy Dodgers? Hm…looking it up… oh, it’s just a shortbread cookie. We have shortbread cookies here in America, are Jammy Dodgers so much better in the UK? I dislike shortbread, I always find it so dry. Maybe I’m just not eating the right kind.

I will second this. I’ve met Kim and she’s extremely nice, I have several friends who have worked with her and say the same thing. She is actually very gracious and polite so I can’t fault her there. I don’t think Kim having a nasty personality was ever a sticking point for anyone, it’s more the narcissistic sex-doll fame hungry persona that rubs people the wrong way.

    • eggy weggs says:

I have not met Kim, but the society reporter I worked with did meet her along with some other Kardashians; this was when they were on the cusp of their current prominence. She said they were great to deal with. I think all the Kardashians are aware of the foundation on which their fame is built. Good for them.

      • qwerty says:

Yeah everyone always says she’s nice. That’s basically all she has going for her, character-wise.

    • OhDear says:

I’ve heard that repeatedly about Kim K, too (that she’s a genuinely nice person). My guess is that she understands that her persona and all that surrounds it is a job – and IMO she’s very good at it.

    • Ginger says:

I lived in Las Vegas for 14 years and worked in the hotel industry for a bit. I know some folks who work in photography and club promotions there as well. Kim is known to be highly professional about her personal appearances. She shows up on time and doesn’t act like a diva. I personally don’t understand her fan base or appeal but I give her mad respect for being a consummate professional.

      • lizzie says:

i have a friend who works in marketing at a vegas hotel where the club regularly hosts their headliner parties and she actually said the whole family is known for being prompt, prepared and gracious. she confirmed kim is a teetotaler and despite reporting that she can be a diva – her rider is usually on the reasonable end and every negotiation/arrangement goes very smoothly.

    • Shelleycon says:

Well I like that even tho I dislike everything else that family represents being nice kind and polite is a huge deal to me.

  2. Bonzo says:

I could believe that she’s a nice person, even if she comes off as a famewhore. She’s a damn good businesswoman to go from sex tape star to making the kind of dough she does with her various enterprises.

I buy Jammy Dodgers at World Market, along with Hob Nobs & Digestives. Brits know how to make a good tea biscuits.

But nothin’ beats a Tim Tam — Aussie cookies rule!

    • Flowerchlld says:

Pimp mama K is the one behind Kim and the family, she the businesswoman. Kim is just the face of the brand.

      • Bonzo says:

I think Kim is very savvy when it comes to her publicity. She must know that being kind and gracious is good for business.

I’m not Kimye fan or defender, but just watching the way she stood up for Kanye after Taylor publicly shamed him at the Grammys showed me that she really loves the guy and wanted the truth to come out. I doubt Kim would have brought the receipts if Taylor hadn’t started another of her feuds to gain some publicity for herself. Unlike Taylor who lashed out, Kim was responding to what she saw as someone lying about her huz. I’d do the same thing if someone talked sh!t about my huz on an international stage.

      • Flowerchild says:

Kim standing up for Kanye also has to do with getting ratings for their show.

      • Bonzo says:

I disagree that it was the main reason she did it. However, I will say that she timed the dropping of the snapchats perfectly, right on the heels of Calvin’s twitter rant. That was a stroke of PR genius.

      • Ronaldinhio says:

I think Kim has more sense and ability than we give her credit for. Her mom does a great job but Kim is a hard worker, endlessly polite, on time and I think she has learned and learned about business as she has gone along
Not everyone starts off knowing that business or law or whatever will interest them but as they mature they find that they have a natural liking or ability in something and head that way
I think Kim has learned a lot along the way and is now savvy as they come.

    • Katren says:

      A Tim Tam isn’t really a cookie – it’s a chocolate biscuit 🙂

      • Bonzo says:

I’m using the American term!! I still think of biscuits as soft, fluffy baked good that you put butter & jam inside or pour sausage gravy over.

Man, I’m hungry for a full southern breakfast now…

    • Kitten says:

You can find McVities at most grocery stores these days, so I’m betting that SJP doesn’t do her own shopping lol.

I LOVE all those digestives and biscuit-y things that are so popular in Europe. I could live on them. They’re so perfect because they’re only mildly sweet–just enough sweetness to satisfy without being overwhelming/cloyingly sweet like so many American snacks.

      • Bonzo says:

Exactly. I’ve trained my tastebuds to prefer my drinks and snacks with less sweetness and those digestives are perfect with tea.

      • Clare says:

@Bonzo if you’re looking for something to dunk in tea…those amazing Lotus speculose biscuits. SO GOOD.

    • AnnaKist says:

Well, I love what SJP said about Jammy Dodgers and chocolate McVities. I love English foods, and although we can buy some here in Australia, my darling best friend from Leicester always brings me back so many treats when she goes home to visit her family. Jammy Dodgers are delicious – a softer type of shortbread with jam in the middle. They’re yummy because of the biscuit, but also because of the perfect ratio of jam to biscuit. Bonzo, have you been lucky enough to try the Pina Colada Tim Tams? They’re my current favourite of all the flavours, but I will not – will not – do the Tim Tam Slam. And don’t even open a packet of Chocolate Mint Slice while I’m around – one is too many, but even a double pack is never enough…

As for KK… what Lucy, me, Tris, Kitten, snowflake and Michelina said.

      • bonzo says:

Oh my, I doubt we could get some of those specialty flavors here in the States. I’d have to order them from an importer and it may not be worth the extra fat on my hips I’d put on!

I do the Tim Tam Slam with just the regular biscuits, but only in hot chocolate. Mostly, I eat them normally as I enjoy savoring the flavor for longer.

    • laur says:

Tim tams RULE!! and I say that as a Brit! Love a good Jammy Dodger though

  3. Lolamd says:

I love those yellow heels. That is all i got.

  4. Sally says:

Kim does seem very friendly. I take her over the obviously rude Paris hiltons of the world.

  5. savu says:

It makes me happy to know Kim is very pleasant in person. I thought what SJP said about her “focus” was interesting, there are lots of non-famous people who would spend their time distracted from the people they’re talking to!

  6. Loula says:

A jammy dodger has jam (aka jelly) in the middle! They’re a childhood kind of biscuit. Two layers of shortbread-y type biscuit with jam in the middle and a hole in the top layer so you can see the jam.

  7. AlleyCat says:

And yet every story I hear about Kendull Jenner is the opposite. I’ve heard some pretty nasty stories about her. I find the whole family annoying, but at least I can appreciate when someone is genuine.

    • Flowerchild says:

Are you actually using the word genuine to describe a Kardashain.

    • holly hobby says:

Could be PMK was too busy chasing the cash instead of parenting the younger kids. The older girls were adults when they became infamous. I think they had a pretty normal childhood and PMK was probably more focused on parenting then.

  8. Sarah says:

I hate shortbread, but love Jammy Dodgers. They are not like traditional shortbread, much nicer. They were a childhood favourite of mine.

  9. SilverUnicorn says:

McVities!!!! YAY!!! Nom nom *rushes to the biscuits jar, crunch crunch*

  10. me says:

Why wouldn’t she be nice and friendly to other celebs? She wants to make an impression. Kim’s family tells the truth about her true character though…they know the real her and from what they say, it’s not so good.

  11. Tris says:

A lot of stupid people are very nice. It is not difficult to be nice if you are born that way. What Kim K seems to have difficulty with is the person she has become: a representation of everything reprehensible about the world today: lack of depth, grossly indecent wealth and reckless accumulation, fame without talent, plastic surgery and unnatural physical expectations, normalizing pornography in day-to-day life, addiction to social media…

    • Kitten says:

This. There’s nothing wrong with acknowledging that she’s nice, but I’m not gonna applaud her for it.

    • Bluebelle says:

You hit the nail right on the head, Tris.

    • Ames says:

YES. It’s great that she’s pleasant but her work ethic is not why I object to her. It’s all the odious qualities outlined above that she’s shilling to the young and naive masses that I detest. She’s very savvy how she markets her influence. Her warped view of womanhood and rampant consumption is peddled to young consumers in a way I find troubling.

  12. Snowflake says:

Well she is a social climber. You can’t climb to fame on other people’s backs by being nasty.

  13. Michelina says:

I totally believe that Kim is probably very nice and sweet, but I still can’t bring myself to jump on the bandwagon. I’ve got a love/hate relationship with Kanye, but Kim represents a vapid self absorption that I think is really hurting this new generation (I know I sound really ancient writing that). This new selfie generation that lives for social media is a problem. She’s a huge part of the reason that it even exists. I find it hard to respect that.

    • iralagi says:

This new generation understand Kim for what she is. This new generation love selfie, some of them put make up and dress like Kim but it doesn’t mean they don’t understand their responsibility in society. This new generation still work and go to school and Kim hasn’t hurt any one or any group in this new generation.
People are overreacting with Kim’s significance in today’s society.

      • Lynnie says:

Nah there’s definitely been an affect on this generation (and I say that as a member), and the generation behind it has already been influenced even more so. Yes, young people and teens are still hardworking and doing amazing things, but there’s a shallowness/superficiality that clouds everything. Some of it is good ol’ fashioned jadedness that’s always been there, but increasing access to tech and personas like the Kardashians are factors as well.

      • Moxie Remon says:

Yes. Yes to all of it.

      • Kitten says:

        What Lynnie said.

      • Michelina says:

iralagi, I guess I made a bit too much of a blanket statement with what I said. I am actually a millennial myself as I just turned 30 this summer, and I would never write off an entire generation so I didn’t mean for that comment to come off as though I’m bashing them as a whole. Millennials and the even younger generation are doing amazing things, but like Lynnie said, there is that shallowness/superficiality there. Lynnie said it much better than I did, and I agree totally with her comment.

I know grown women who recreate Kylie Jenner’s outfits, dye their hair the same color she does whenever she does it, and wear their makeup like her. They’re the same ones who can’t really have a good time when they’re out with friends because they’re spending the entire night trying to get the perfect pictures to post on the gram, or making snapchat videos of themselves lip synching to music the way that Kylie Jenner does. There is a serious disconnect.

Superficiality used to be frowned upon. People who spent countless hours in the mirror obsessing over themselves and their looks were pretty much dismissed. With the influence of the Kardashians and the Jenners, this sort of behavior is now not only embraced, but emulated. It’s like giving in to some of our worst impulses because we see other people doing it so we think we can too. The argument is always made that Kim is harmless, that Kylie isn’t hurting anyone, but I don’t really agree with that. If I had a daughter and she went on vacation with her friends for 4 days and chose to spend that time taking 6,000 selfies I would be horrified because it is insanely superficial, it means that she was terrible company to those around her, and because she isn’t really living her life. It’s just very bizarre and unnatural to me.

Every time a Kardashian or a Jenner opens her mouth, eyes roll so hard they’re about to fall out of some of our skulls because they’re SO inarticulate. This is because they’re not interested in pretty much anything but their appearance. I don’t think this is a good thing to begin accepting, but this influence IS spreading. I’ve come across COUNTLESS teenagers who can barely hold a conversation, and there’s a lot more to it than the Kardashians, but the obsession with the self and social media is responsible for that.

  14. Kitten says:

I really enjoyed how SJP politely (and rather masterfully, might I add) avoided the question about Kim being a “style icon” LOL.

I love SJP and I love her style.

  15. Trixie says:

“she’s really nice to her fans and to Kanye’s fans and to everyone else”

Except Chloe Moretz. And Taylor Swift.

  16. ladysussex says:

Don’t know about Kim but Kris (mom) is really very gracious, polite, hospitable, and all the good things. I imagine Kim grew up with that example. As much as I roll my eyes at them, they really do have good manners.

    • CharlotteCharlotte says:

I’ve never watched any eps of their shows, but I know that Kris is really great friends with a lot of people I really like. Genuine friendship, too; not the false visage that is the norm for celebrities.

  17. Clare says:

I actually left my desk and went to the corner store to buy jammie dodgers (and jaffa cakes) after reading this post.

  18. Sumodo1 says:

SJP’s face: Insta filter or facelift?

  19. me says:

British snacks are the best thing on earth ! Whenever I go to the UK I bring back loads of chocolates and Walker’s crisps. I love the cakes, pastries, cheese and onion pasties…allll of it !

  20. Evil Queen says:

Have heard this as well. My mother met her when she was scouting for wedding spots when she married that football player (you can see I am deeply invested). My mom’s boss at the time lived in Benedict Canyon in LA. She said that she was really sweet and nice. Still think her presence in pop culture is a joke but apparently she is not a complete a-hole.

  21. Pmnichols says:

I always thought she seemed nice. I never understood the hate for her. It’s ridiculous. Hate is powerful, how can you hate someone you never met? I’m glad SJP said this. I believe it.

    • Sasha says:

Plenty of really nasty people have been absolutely charming in person. It doesn’t mean anything.
What is more important is the person’s substance.

  22. cd3 says:

It’s great that Kim K is friendly, professional, polite and all, but why all the high praise for displaying qualities that I’d expect from any basic decent human? It irks me when celebrities get praised for being nice. IMO, that’s the bare minimum I expect from any person on this planet.

    • me says:

      Exactly !

    • vaininname says:

YES. Many may find this to be a stretch, but the rise of talent less, superficial, people like her are the reason why we have a presidential candidate like Trump now. Hard work, depth, and intelligence are cast aside in place of pathetic headliners like this. There is no real contribution here, just consumption and concocted controversy. I’m so sick of people defending her saying she can do what she wants and it doesn’t hurt anyone- IT HURTS SOCIETY. We are where we are now because idiots like KK for some unknown reason have become relevant. She can become a nudist for all I care, but I don’t know why that is news. Her relevance is a reflection of the idiocy around us.

  23. Saddie890 says:

Please God NOooooooo! Not someone supporting the kardashians like SLP!
