Jennifer Lopez is speaking out about a health scare she and husband Marc Anthony experienced with their daughter Emme, when Emme was just three weeks old. According to Jennifer, Emme had a lump on her head, and Jennifer and Marc had no idea what it was. It all turned out okay, because Jennifer and Marc rushed Emme to the hospital. where “Luckily, in the end… she turned out fine.” That’s not much of an explanation, Jennifer. But babies do have very lumpy heads, so I’d imagine it was just something natural. Jennifer is telling this story because she’s trying to promote her involvement with the Mirabel Foundation, an organization devoted to providing pediatric medical services to the less fortunate:
Jennifer Lopez will never forget the night she and husband Marc Anthony discovered a lump on daughter Emme’s head. Emme and twin brother Max were only 3 weeks old at the time.
“We both got very nervous, very very nervous, and I just remember my heart sinking to my feet,” Lopez recalled at last night’s Noche de Niños gala benefit for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA). “I looked at [Marc] and I said, ‘You know if anything happens, I’m not going to be OK, you know that, right?'”
Lopez and Anthony rushed Emme to Children’s Hospital, where she underwent a battery of tests, including an MRI. “Luckily, in the end,” Lopez said, “she turned out fine.”
But it turned into something more for the hospital…
Shortly after the scare, the singer-actress joined forces with CHLA to form the Maribel Foundation to help provide pediatric medical services to the less fortunate.
“I started to wonder,” Lopez said, “what if I couldn’t afford a doctor or receive the medicines, the procedures?”
Lopez also debuted a new song last night, which she wrote for her twins. A recording of the ballad was played during a video highlighting the Foundation’s work. In it Lopez sings, “Let’s keep this time for us and make it last as long as we can. It’s already going too fast.”

It’s a good cause, and one I hope Jennifer sticks with. I’m sure Jennifer and Marc were truly worried about their daughter, and it seems like the health scare gave them some perspective. When she participated in that triathlon last year, the more than $100,000 she raised also went to the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. It seems like Jennifer has found her cause – children’s health.

Too many Body Thetans, that’s all it is.
Did she wear her “concerned mommy wig” to relate this tale of horror?
But, props to JLo for helping out, anyway.
After the twins, she had to find a “cause” to champion or she’d be considered more shallow, which she is.
i love how her immediate reaction to her daughter’s health scare is how SHE is going to ultimately feel and be affected: “i won’t be okay, you know that, right?”
oh, jennifer. spoken like a true narcissist.
She’s just now realizing that there are children all over the world who don’t receive proper medical care?
Good cause but still can’t stand her
It kills me the way these celebrities spend millions of dollars on themselves and yet want to be congratulated for donating the equivalent of chump change to an organization. Yes, any donation is much needed, but keep it in perspective. Someone as outrageously expensive as she is could pony up more
what really bothers me is they always start a new foundation. do you really need to have your stamp on the charity? the one’s in place are not worthy of your time / support
yoyoyo… i woulda thought that jenny from the block would have been well-acquainted with the limited options of health care available for low income peeps.
That doesn’t even look like her, in the photo of her head! What happened to her?!
Well, at least she is helping out the kids. She chose a great cause.
I understand that Jennifer Lopez is interested in exploring ways such as through technology reaching the best doctors in the world so that they can communicate with each other, giving children the best care possible. We know of a child who has a very rare chromosome condition. She is only 10 months old, but only looks to be 3 months old. Her prognosis is not too promising. She has 12Q14micro deletion.
