Daily Beast: Donald Trump allegedly referred to Marlee Matlin as ‘r-tarded’

wenn25054829

Every morning this week, I wake up and one of the first things I wonder is “what fresh hell has Donald Trump wrought for today?” At this point, Trump gossip is the only gossip. It feels like even celebrities know that, because celebrity-gossip has been suspiciously low-key this week. Everyone in America must be waking up the same way, wondering what new horrors await us in this final 24 days. So let’s breakdown some of the hell-on-earth:

Trump had a thing about Marlee Matlin. Yesterday, we heard about Trump harassing Marlee and making sexually explicit comments to her while she appeared on Celebrity Apprentice. Now the Daily Beast reports that Trump allegedly referred to Matlin – who is deaf – as “r-tarded.” He would often treat her like she was mentally disabled… just because she was deaf. Ugh.

Trump’s unearthed 1994 interview. Nancy Collins interviewed Trump for ABC’s Primetime Live and the Hollywood Reporter just published the transcript of the interview, which you can read here. Here’s a pearl of wisdom from Trump: “Psychologists will tell you that some women want to be treated with respect, others differently. I tell friends who treat their wives magnificently, get treated like crap in return, ‘Be rougher and you’ll see a different relationship.’ Unfortunately, with people in general, you get more with vinegar than honey.” *shiver*

Donald Trump had a go-to line to pick up little girls. In the 1990s, whenever he saw girls from the ages of 10 to 14, he would say some variation of “we’ll be dating in ten years!” Gross.

The NYT responds. Trump is making a lot of noise about how he’s going to sue the NY Times and his lawyers even sent the Times a letter, and the NYT responded – go here to read. The NYT’s official position is that their reporting is not libel because Trump is disgusting in his own words.

Donald Trump Jr. is a pig too. Just in case you ever wondered about how his father’s views affect future generations, in a 2013 interview, Donald Jr. dismissed sexual harassment in the workplace, saying: “I’m of that mindset — and I’ll get into trouble, I’m sure I’ll get myself in trouble one of these days – if you can’t handle some of the basic stuff that’s become a problem in the workforce today, then you don’t belong in the workforce. Like, you should go maybe teach kindergarten. I think it’s a respectable position. You can’t be negotiating billion-dollar deals if you can’t handle, like, you know…” Donald Jr. trailed off. What? You can’t negotiate billion-dollar deals if you’re a sexual predator obsessed with grabbing women by the p-ssy? Because that’s what I think.

Donald Trump Jr. keeps talking. When trying to explain his father’s comments, Junior said: “I’ve had conversations like that with plenty of people where people use language off color. They’re talking, two guys, amongst themselves. I’ve seen it time and time again. I think it makes him a human. I think it makes him a normal person, not a political robot. He hasn’t spent his whole life waiting for this moment to run for the presidency. I think it means that he’s a human being that he’s a regular person like everyone else. I think that’s what endeared him to the American public.”

Melania Trump wants People Mag to print a retraction. Melania says she never spoke to the journalist, Natasha Stoynoff, in public. And that’s what Melania wants retracted?

The only good thing I have to say at this point is that Hillary Clinton currently has an 85% chance at winning the presidency according to FiveThirtyEight. She’s been hovering in 80s all week, and I suspect that’s where she will remain.

  2. Brunswickstoval says:

I truly hope after this nightmare is over Trump and his smug children disappear and are never heard from again. They all have incredibly punchable faces. And I’m a pacifist.

    • AreYouKittenMe? says:

They really do. The one on the left looks way too much like Daddy Dearest.
Remember that the two boys are trophy-hunters too so yeah, deplorable like their father.

      • SMD says:

The Republican party has lost any credibility it possibly could have left when they wouldn’t denounce him early on. Now, as far as I’m concerned they are all complicit in keeping him in the race. We see you, we see you! This campaign has opened my eyes and I need to get involved on a local political level.

      • Bettyrose says:

SMD, exactly! It’s one thing to be an economic conservative. Another to be a family values conservative. Both, IMO, are willing to overlook bigotry because it suits their world view, but supporting a man who celebrates hatred and ignorance? Who encourages hatred and ignorance in his followers? There’s no justifying that.

    • V4Real says:

Speaking of smug children. Did anyone happen to catch the meme’s of the Trump kids campaign ad for their dad? Click here for your viewing pleasure. I love the Children of the Corn reference. There was one meme that put up a side by side picture of The Trumps kids and the kids from the Children of the Corn that said “they grew up. ”

    • Bridget says:

I am really curious what’s going to happen when this debacle is over if Trump loses. He has singlehandedly destroyed the reputation of himself and his children. They have revealed what terrible people they are, how truly faithless and underhanded. And the only supporters they have left are people that they despise.

  3. Donna Martin says:

At first I thought this was rigged and somehow this was set up to have an awfu person run against Hilary so she could win but now he’s looking like an awful clown. I thought no one could really be this awful but the facts are yes they can. Gross.

    • Looty says:

I did the opposite, early on I thought people were paranoid ssaying he was a plant to destroy the republican party. Now, I really can’t imagine deliberate sabotage succeeding any better so who knows?

      • meh says:

I think a deliberate plant would try to be more subtle! This is a stranger than fiction situation.

      • Bread and Circuses says:

I think Russia tried to plant him, but underestimated just how off-kilter Trump is.

Not that it wasn’t all Trump’s idea in the first place. The razzing he got at that one White House Correspondents dinner obviously infuriated him; when they showed him in the audience, you could see him seething.

And narcissists obsess about pay-back when they feel slighted.

    • ladysussex says:

I really believed they were in cahoots and that he was a plant to make sure she won. Only recently have I thought about changing my mind because he’s recently been bringing up her criminal activities and the Bill Clinton rape allegations. I don’t think she’d let a person she was in cahoots with bring up those things.

  4. noname says:

He really is disgusting. I thought his campaign was slightly entertaining at the beginning. I even thought that maybe the response he was getting for his “transparency” may help lead the way in changing the direction of how we hold candidates accountable in terms of their funding, but it ends there and it’s gone on far longer than I could have imagined. I never thought he would be the Republican nominee. What’s even scarier to me is the support he has from so many “deeply conservative Christians” in the south. I live in AL and an overwhelming majority of people say they may not like him but he’s better than the alternative. I can’t help but think if we did away with these corrupt, extremist parties and actually focused on the candidates, we’d be much better off.

    • CL says:

Tell me about it! I live in GA, and we are surrounded by church-goers who have drinking the Fox kool-aid for years. A lot of them think the Clintons are the worst people ever, and can’t be bothered to try to educate themselves, because if it isn’t Fox, it’s liberal propaganda.

Their emperor has no clothes, and they’re too indoctrinated to see that.

      • SMD says:

CL same, another GA CB poster here! He has tons of vocal support here. I know people who are voting for him because they are so anti Clinton. I’m hoping people get out and vote!

      • ladysussex says:

Yeah. People who go to church are soooooo stupid! You are right to criticize those idiots. Darn Christians and stupid Georgians!

    • Ange says:

Well the ones that vote for trump ARE stupid and like it or not he has a huge fanbase of evangelical Christians. Make of that what you will.

  5. OSTONE says:

Trump himself is digging his own grave. I just hope he stays in the race, continues to act like a privileged, lunatic asshole and that nothing bad comes out about HRC. So done with this election already and for all the political analysts and law experts on my timeline to stfu.

  6. Ninks says:

First thing I do every morning now, is check twitter to see what’s happened while I was sleeping, and I always feel such dread – wondering what awful thing has occurred the night before.

Also, he gave a speech yesterday that was so anti-Semitic. He never said Jews, of course, but it was pretty clear that’s who he was referring to. It was politer, vaguer version of the stuff you would find on far-right websites. SO gross. I can’t imagine what mental gymnastics its taken for Ivanka’s husband to continue to support him.

    • Mike says:

Remember that Hitler had a ton of followers. So did Stalin and Paul Pot. So does Putin. Hate works often. Blaming others for your support also is very popular. Trump appeals to the darker angels and they are responding. Fortunately there are plenty of people who see the abyss in that approach and will stand up and fight it.

      • Ninks says:

He spoke about a large international conspiracy working against him. He didn’t use any specific anti-Semitic language. But the whole speech was a dog whistle to the far right message fans who worship him. He doesn’t have to say it’s the Jews for them to understand that’s what he means. He (or somebody in his campaign) has previously tweeted graphics that came straight from far right message boards and had anti-Semitic imagery (that was no Sheriffs’ star.) His son in law is Jewish, his daughter converted, her children are being raised Jewish, yet he peddles this stuff all the time.

    • Clare says:

May I ask what he said? I can’t bring myself to watch the actual speech

    • Kaye says:

Me, too, Ninks! When I get up and see more than about 10 new responses on my Twitter feed, I get this feeling of impending doom.

  7. Carrie says:

I will not feel comfortable until this election is over. I am not an optimist, and still think that Trump might win this election. I think a lot of people who don’t normally vote will vote in this election, lending an unpredictable edge to things. If this man becomes President, I don’t know what I will do!

    • Kristen820 says:

@Carrie – the flip side of that coin is that there is going to be a group of people who *would* normally vote who will be sitting this one out. I know a couple personally.

I’m conflicted about this, because at least one was/is a Trump supporter. I feel like they *should* vote, but also kinda feel like abstaining from the process entirely is the lesser of two evils…

    • Erica_V says:

I get nervous when sites report her high percentages. I worry people might see that and think oh I don’t need to go vote then if she’s winning. Nope it’s so important for people to go & actually vote.

I said yesterday but i think my comment got deleted – i’d love to see a high 60s low 70s percentage for voter turn out.

      • Lorelai says:

Erica, I think in a normal election, that would be true and my concern as well.

However, this is no typical election – so my hope is that people will be too scared to sit it out under any circumstances. I live in NY but I’m still going to vote regardless of the fact that it’s a foregone conclusion that my state will go to HRC.

This is an utter shitshow and the stakes are too high; I hope others don’t get complacent.

    • Imqrious2 says:

What I get VERY nervous about are the ones that feel they can’t vote for either candidate, and vote Libertarian or Independent. That will effectively split the vote (esp. when people stay home because they think it’s a foregone conclusion that that their vote won’t matter, or someone “has it in the bag”), and time and again it shows that it reduces the chances of the candidate with more votes winning. The only hope is the Electoral College. It usually causes me great outrage thinking that the popular vote won’t be held up, but in this case, if God forbid the unthinkable happens, I think the EC would go for Hillary.

  8. minx says:

I’m a political junkie and usually enjoy this run up to the election, but this year I can’t wait for it to be over. I can’t bear seeing or hearing this horrible, despicable person.

    • Annetommy says:

I feel the same way minx. And I’m terrified Hillary will get a coughing fit or trip over, have a nose bleed or have some other perfectly “normal” minor accident, and that this will effect her chances. Why on earth would that matter? Because we are in a surreal situation. Please make it stop.

    • Lorelai says:

Minx and AnneTommy, your comments are my thoughts exactly. And it makes me want to weep.

“Please make it stop” is really the only rational response at this point. 24 days sounds unbearable 😩

    • Kath says:

Me too. I’m not American, but have always been oddly addicted to watching the US election cycle. Not this time. I feel sick to my stomach.

  9. lightpurple says:

Kindergarten IS a workplace, staffed by trained and licensed professionals who must deal with budgets, extremely strict regulations about reporting suspected child abuse and neglect, curriculum, other teachers, superiors, school committees, 5 year olds, and parents.

I really want to see how many discrimination and harassment cases the Trump corporations have had filed against them at the EEOC, equivalent state agencies, and in the state and federal courts and the outcomes of those cases.

And Donald Jr., there are laws against the behavior you think belongs in the workplace. If you cannot handle that, maybe you need to start your education again. In kindergarten.

    • SMD says:

Preach Light purple! I know many businessmen who wouldn’t last an hour in a Kindergarten class. I still can’t get over how DT, his sons and his supporters think he can disregard or run roughshod over the constitution and the current laws of the land. He truly believes if he is president he can run this country any way he wants. No, no you can’t. There are checks and balances and other bodies you know like Um Congress, the House of Representatives, etc., who you will have to work with to get things done. I’m with you 100%, he has clearly run his businesses and brands this way which if he has done so is blatantly in disregard of the EEOC and current laws regulating the workplace. His money and power have allowed him to not only survive but flourish. I want to see every single complaint, lawsuit, payoff. Forget the ridiculous emails he demands be released! Let’s see the tax returns and details of his business dealings! I want to see his personal assistants emails for the last 15 years.

      • eggy weggs says:

Donald Trump and his followers are like if Breitbart News Network and the Dunning-Kruger effect had a baby and Alex Jones was the wet nurse.

      • Lorelai says:

SMD it is truly unreal how they manage to insult an entirely new subset of people every single day. Absolutely unreal.

And I agree that no one in the Trump family could hack it for a day as a kindergarten teacher. Nor would I want any of those creeps around my child anyway.

  10. Vaya says:

And they’re OK with this behavior!?! Further example of how sick and twisted this family is.

  11. boredblond says:

I still believe that the impact of one tape that can’t be disputed is worth a hundred of these articles..it’s frustrating to think there are instances of him saying deplorable things..reputedly including racial slurs, which would finish him–that no one has the courage to release.

  12. greenmonster says:

According to Trump Jr., teaching kindergarten is no work? I’m so sick of people acting as if educating children is no work. I’m a social worker myself and I’m just in the right mood for an idiot like Trump Jr. to look down on people in not “billion-dollar-deals”-related work.

He is his father’s child: if you can’t handle a little bit of sexual assault go home (or teach kindergarten), because that’s how it always has been. I just can’t with this family. And I just wanna punch people who still support Trump sen. (or any of this awful family) in the face.

    • doofus says:

thought I LOATHE to defend any of these deplorables, I think what he meant was that you’re not likely to face “locker room talk” or sexual harassment if you’re a K teacher as opposed to working corporate.

but teachers get sexually harassed too…ANYONE can be harassed at ANY job. but this dumbf*ck is so sheltered that he doesn’t realize that. to him, teaching is “an easy job” where everything is sunshine and rainbows.

  13. LinaLamont says:

    And this surprises you, why?

    • SMD says:

Hi Lina Lamont, not this kitten and the other lovely CBERS this am. This is SMD, also known as Pissedpussyriot from yesterday. I want to know all products, shows, and deals of any kind that DT and his family and businesses partners are associated with. In addition to voting in November, I refuse to buy any product he is involved with, any shows, any hotels, resorts anything! Boycott every single thing he/his faily/brand and supporters are associated with. He only cares about his wealth and power, and the second came from the first! I’m exercising my rights.

  14. Margo S. says:

At this point, obviously Hilary is going to win. You know the closer we get to the election, the more crap is going to be released about Donald.

  15. Bess says:

Once again, I am astounded that about 40% of my fellow Americans are still going to vote for Trump.

  16. KL says:

The threat to sue the NYT for libel is hilarious… isn’t this the same guy who thinks anyone who gets offended by anything he says is just too sensitive, and political correctness is ruining this country, and blah blah blah…?

I would hope even a staunch Trump supporter would be able to see through that kind of blatant doublespeak.

I guess Donald Trump is allowed to be offended by things, but no one else is.

  17. Colette says:

    WTH
The People Magazine reporter never suggested that she and Melania were friends/friendly.The woman covered Trump so obviously if she saw Melania in front of Trump Towers they would engage in small talk.
It’s not like the lady said they were BFF’s.So I guess that’s the only issue Melania has with the People article.LMAO

  18. PunkyMomma says:

I find Melania’s retractions to be quite telling. Are these really her issues – that she was not a friend of this woman? I hope after November 8th she runs like hell.

    • Boxy Lady says:

I’m starting to wonder if Melania is subtly trying to take Donald down. I mean, the plagiarized speech, the pink “pussy bow” blouse, this retraction thing where she doesn’t try to deny her husband’s dirty deeds. It may all be coincidence of course. On the other hand, maybe she has plotted to undercut Donald in the quietest ways possible (she couldn’t be too obvious and keep her position as rich trophy wife). I wonder what their marriage will be like after this election. Will she stay or will she go?

      • Lorelai says:

I don’t know if she’s necessarily smart enough to actively sabotage, but I think this is NOT what she thought she was signing up for, she wants to be a trophy wife only, and that she will be voting for Hillary in the privacy of her voting booth!

  19. Thaisajs says:

“I’m of that mindset — and I’ll get into trouble, I’m sure I’ll get myself in trouble one of these days – if you can’t handle some of the basic stuff that’s become a problem in the workforce today, then you don’t belong in the workforce… You can’t be negotiating billion-dollar deals if you can’t handle, like, you know…”

Tell that to Sheryl Sandberg, a**hole. Or GM’s Mary Barra. Or Pepsi’s Indra Nooyi. Or Xerox’s Ursula Burns. Each and every one of them could kick your a** in a negotiation.

  20. Rice says:

The extent of Drumpf’s “Make America Hate Again” campaign become so clear when I saw a clip of Ava Duvernay’s documentary “The 13th”. Nothing but vitriolic and inflammatory statements that encourage violence and, well, hate.

  21. Abbess Tansy says:

Somebody stick a fork in him, he’s done. Overdone.

  22. Mamunia says:

I think the most important thing to look at as we joyfully watch the public demise of this gross human being and his Stepford children, is the money situation. Not only are supporters refusing to give him money, but after the video, they are asking for refunds. He built that hotel near the White House that he bragged about. No one is coming. Companies won’t use it for fear of offending everyone. Locals won’t eat there. The prices of rooms are being slashed and they still can’t get people to stay there. This is the ONLY message the Trump family will understand. People need to vote NO TRUMP with their dollars!

    • SMD says:

Yes Mamunia! See my comment above. A complete and utter boycott of every single DT product, brand and all of those supported by him and associated with him or his family. We must be vocal and firm in refusing to let him make another cent off of us! I’m a pissed kitty who will pay more more non DT anything!

    • PortlandJan says:

According to a few people who’ve seen the interior, it’s decorated in Early Ming The Merciless.

    • Christin says:

They probably expected this campaign would increase their brand value, when hopefully it has all but destroyed it.

  23. Sam says:

There are so many awful statements to comment on, it’s hard to pick just one.
But shut up Donald Jr. I can handle, and have handled, pathetic men who think it’s appropriate to sexually harass women in the workplace. I can handle them by standing up for myself, or making a complaint to HR, or hiring an attorney. I am not afraid of them — I earned my place in the boardroom, and I have negotiated multi-million dollar deals.
The thing is, I should not have to handle them. This type of behavior is offensive, unprofessional, degrading and reflects poorly not on women like me, but on men who engage in it. So just because I “can” handle it (and I do realize my definition of “handle” differs from Donald’s) means nothing.

  24. Lorelai says:

I can’t believe I’m stupid enough to still be surprised by anything he says, but I am truly surprised that he called her a retard.

I honestly didn’t think that anyone, even this shitstain who is a poor excuse for a human being, used that vile word anymore.

    Just…wow.

  25. Christin says:

Marley has released a classy statement in response. Her voice will be her vote.

  26. Tough Cookie says:

Tiddlesbanging seems so long ago….I miss those days 🙁

  27. Molly says:

Trump is as low brow as they come. Just look at his vocabulary. I have grown to hate the word “tremendous” thanks to him.
