Donald Trump thinks flag-burners should go to jail & lose their citizenship

Throughout the election and in the immediate aftermath of the election, I kept saying that Donald Trump would end up starting a war on Twitter. I believe that even more today. Trump’s inability to simply STOP TWEETING is going to cause major repercussions in the days, weeks, months and years to come. He is a Twitter troll, a childish, immature bully and an unhinged fantasist. First story: Trump is still so mad that Hillary Clinton has a multi-point lead in the popular vote. Over the weekend, he went on an Twitter rant about how “millions” of people illegally voted for Hillary Clinton. He literally has nothing to back up that claim. But he’s running with it. Late last night, he was tweeting about it again:

She didn’t lose in a “landslide.” She won the popular vote by millions of votes. But now we know that Donald Trump is just sitting at home, watching CNN and seething… because he’s the president-elect.

There was also this disturbing tweet bright and early this morning (does he get up early just to tweet?):

So if you exercise your First Amendment rights as a citizen of America, you should lose your citizenship and/or be thrown in jail. Got it.

There’s been a lot of conversation about how Trump’s unhinged tweets are actually a feint, a distraction from the larger stories about his hundreds or thousands of conflicts of interest around the world, his self-dealing foundation, his shady business practices and his blatant violations of ethics rules and existing laws, not to mention the turmoil within his transition team. To which I say… I don’t think Trump is that smart. Don’t paint him a maniacal genius. He is not. While we should not underestimate the damage he will do to our nation and all of us, we should also not build him up as an untouchable madman. ALL of this is awful. All of it. Maybe the unhinged tweets are the best way to clarify that to the largest group of people.

Every time I see a new Trump article I have to take a deep breath before I click on it.

    • Evie says:

I feel this on a spiritual level. I have to prepare myself for the wildness I know I’m going to read.

    • SilverUnicorn says:

      Same!!!

Off topic (or maybe not?) I have noted only yesterday that in some constitutional buildings and on the seal of the American Senate, the *fasces* are displayed, which is a symbol that was born in ancient Italy and used up to the Roman Republic and Empire, which was later re-used by Benito Mussolini.
I wonder why it didn’t disappear in government buildings and organisations in USA after WWII.

      • Jane's Wasted Talent says:

I think because the fascists don’t *own* the fasces- like you said, the Roman Republic does. And many of our founding fathers considered us to be the cultural descendants of the Republic and, of course, modeled our government after it (with some influence from English law). So why should the fascists get the fasces, regardless of the name? Just like I don’t associate the Boston Tea Party with the current abomination.

    • Snappyfish says:

Agree totally. I’m surprised they haven’t at least begun a The Constitution & You course for this imbecile. He has no idea what powers the President actually has, thinks loyalty is more important than competence in cabinet positions & is mercurial to the nth degree. He is petty & trite & clearly not very bright.

I’m still in mourning & I fear the next 4 years. I will wear my safety pin until 2020 & do all I can to help & support those who will be hurt & marginalized until he is safely out of office.

      • Hazel says:

Good idea & maybe a primer on major Supreme Court decisions, too, because the flag burning issue was decided long ago–it’s freedom of speech.

      • Tiffany says:

His conflicts of interest are so important, and he doesn’t get why.

Take Turkey. He has two buildings he’s building there. As they pointed out in the Daily Show, Turkey doesn’t like the Kurdish minority, but the Kurds have been extreme helpful to the US in the fight against ISIS in that region. Does he continue the US relationship with the Kurds (uniting against ISIS) and risk Turkish gov’t interference with his towers? Or does he drop the Kurds to pave the way for low taxes or subsidies for his buildings fromTurkey? Does he care more about making money or defeating ISIS? I’m scared of the answer.

        http://m.motherjones.com/politics/2016/11/donald-trump-i-have-little-conflict-interest-turkey

      • Lama Bean says:

@Tiffany, he says it frequently. He always highlights the fact they are two huge towers in “Istanbooooll”. It makes my skin crawl every time I hear him say it that way.

I thoroughly believe he’s trying to distract via twitter. Only times these things flare up are just when his shady personal dealings come out.

      • MrsBump says:

@Tiffany – I completely agree with regards to Trump’s many conflicts of interest, but it’s important to know that Turkey is also officially an important ally in the war against ISIS

      • jwoolman says:

President-Elect Stupid is such an idiot.

It’s going to be a very long four years. And if Paul Ryan gets his way – our Social Security benefits will be eaten up in the greatly increased private insurance premiums and we still won’t be able to afford medical care. Imagine what will happen as we get into our seventies and eighties and nineties, since private insurers will keep upping the premiums if we live that long. Doubt that Social Security will survive long with privatization either.

I don’t know why Ryan is so fixated on tossing older folks under the bus.

Oh, well, the problem will probably be moot once President Stupid gets his grubby paws on the nuclear codes.

    • EM says:

I am getting more enraged at the media with every minute they spend on these BS tweets. Yes, they are meant as distractions and guess what the mainstream media is falling for it or worse … they know it’s a distraction but they get ratings and thus perpetuate the cycle of stupidity.

  2. Jessie says:

Is it wrong that the first thing that came to mind when I read the title of this post was “I wonder how much time someone would get if they burned the pile of rancid candy floss he’s wearing on his head”? Because just looking at it right now, it’s an affront to my civil liberties…

    • Snowflake says:

Ugh, it’s always men like that who rate women on their looks. And somehow, don’t see the ridiculousness of looking like they do and having the nerve to rate women.

  3. Maya says:

Now Donald – that goes for white supremacists who burn the flags as well right?

And since there are also illegal immigrants from Europe, they will be deported as well right?

Or is it only non white people who needs to be punished?

    • Kitten says:

Damn. YOU should be interviewing him, Maya.

      Seriously.

If only journalists called Trump out on his BS like you did right here.

    • KWM says:

Better have your affairs in order, after that interview we would be looking for you like Jimmy Hoffa. I am dead serious in that I am just waiting for the tweet that suggests journalists who tell lies about him should be punished with jail time.

Sadly I feel that he would be very happy to do this……

      • Kitten says:

He hasn’t already said that? LOL…I feel like that’s something he’s at the very least insinuated. My god this man is a lunatic….

    • kellybean says:

And what if they were born in the US? Where is he going to deport them to? He is such an idiot. Thankfully, I am Canadian and he won’t be the leader of my country but he’s much too close. Ugh.

  4. SusanneToo says:

And I think he should go to jail and lose his citizenship for his collusion with Russia. Not to mention all his other crimes and just general, overall sh1ttiness.

    • Radley says:

All I want for Christmas for the next four years. Impeachment. Resignation. Indictment. Jail. Then Pence losing re-election handily. Please. Please. Please.

As for the flag burning, what a random thought for the President-elect to be up and tweeting about first thing in the morning. I think it may be some kind of distraction. Or at least just some raw meat for his rabid know nothing supporters. I think much like the whole Romney/Sec’y of State shell game, Kellyanne Conway, Steve Bannon and Jared Kushner are very much encouraging Trump to use lies and subterfuge as a political strategy. Disgusting.

  5. Megan says:

I think people who collude with Russia to win an election should be jailed and stripped of their citizenship.

    • Sullivan says:

      Amen.

    • Esmom says:

Seriously. His hypocrisy about so many things is mind blowing. And I agree with Kaiser that his tweeting isn’t a smart or strategic move because no way he’s a secret genius. He is, to borrow HRC’s words, merely a puppet.

    • HappyMom says:

      This times one million.

    • littlemissnaughty says:

I still can’t believe nobody seems to care that Russia helped get this man elected. My mind can’t handle it, it fries itself every time I try.

This man is so bad for my blood pressure. My health is in jeopardy from the serious bullsh*t that flows from his poor excuse for a human face every day. I hate him. Bigly.

      • steerpike says:

I don’t understand this either and it drives me crazy. Putin must be sitting there, like the cat that swallowed the canary, knowing that he publicly interfered in the American election and no one says a word. I feel like we have entered the Twilight Zone.

  6. Tris says:

Oh my god. Americans must be bloody terrified. This person doesn’t have basic knowledge of the constitution or of modern American values. Welcome back, 1930s (including segregation, World War, paranoia, and hatred of women, gays, people of colour, the ‘wrong’ kind of immigrants, the poor, the disabled, the educated, the wise and the right [i.e. the “left”]).

    • Alix says:

      We ARE terrified!!!

      • Megan says:

I wake up screaming in the night and pray it was just a bad dream.

      • Esmom says:

Alix, yes. I haven’t had a full night’s sleep since before the election. I was tossing and turning just before it, too, with fears that have sadly come true.

I was thinking of calling my shrink about the insomnia but I already know exactly what the issue is…and all the med adjustments or therapy in the world can’t do a thing about it. Grr.

      • Megan says:

The stress of this election is overwhelming and it has only been three weeks. Not sure how we all will survive the next four years.

      • SpecialK says:

Thank God it’s not just me. I am honestly scared as sh!t and feel so helpless! How is this happening? I feel like I never knew this country. I knew there was racism and bigotry, I’ve seen it in action, but I never could believe so many could turn a blind eye to it and support a man like this. And they don’t care! I’ve lost friends and family from this….I can’t stomach what’s happened and honestly have nothing to say to them.
As someone who was grabbed by the pu$$y starting at age 8, this has hit me harder than I ever imagined. Watching my gay and minority friends being harassed here in Atlanta….it’s too much. I don’t even want to leave the house.

    • Kiki says:

I have been saying this all the time, so here it is “Donald Trump will make Jim Crow Laws permanent in 2017”. This is your President, America.

    • LinaLamont says:

“Oh my god. Americans must be bloody terrified.”

      I am. And, I don’t scare easily.

      • Mltpsych says:

Same here. Scared out of my mind and yet we have to keep putting one foot in front of the other while watching this go down. I wake up depressed everyday since Nov. 9

    • Carmen says:

At this point, the only thing standing between us and this maniac is our Constitution.

    • Miss Jupitero says:

We are terrified. I am pretty much in the constant state of anxiety now, and i am worried about the impact on my health. I used to live in a highly fundamentalist part of Turkey, and traveled regularly to areas near the Iraqi border, and even that didn’t scare me as much as this. We are truly f*cked. And not just us; this will affect the whole world.

      • Lightpurple says:

@MissJupitero, STAY HEALTHY! Ryan and Price are targeting MA hospitals for massive cuts and our governor stays silent

    • Tate says:

Terrified of what the future holds and pissed as hell at the people who voted for him and put us in this position.

      • Esmom says:

Yes, you said it. I am still in disbelief at the white women, many in my neighborhood I am sure, who put him in office.

      • Tate says:

I keep trying to come to terms with all of this so that I can look certain people in the eye again that I know voted for Trump, but then he appoints another white supremacist or goes on a crazy twitter rant and I am pissed as all hell again.

On top of all this his horrible personality traits he is also UNSTABLE!! We are in for some dark times thanks to 46% of the electorate. 😞

    • ArtHistorian says:

It is not only Americans who are terrified! I live in Scandinavia and am bloody terrified as well. Especially if Trump’s pro-Russian sentiments make Putin believe it is all right to move in on the Baltic states and destabilize the entire area.

Generally, I feel that the entire West is moving in the wrong direction – as in regressing. In Denmark we have just gotten a minister who wrote a manifest against women a few years back where he literally accused women of being without morality and honour and therefore unfit to have any role in shaping society (because we are soo emotional as well).
Not to mention the appaling law that makes it legal to confiscate valuables from Syrian refugees. Our current government is slowly eroding out nation’s goodwill because it is morally bankrupt and borderline corrupt – not to mention that it is hellbent on destroying the socialsystem that has made the country a success that others have wanted to emulate. A system that afford(ed) the citizens security (fx. free healthcare) and the opportunity for upward mobility (fx free education) while still remaining an affluent society. Now the institutions that have secured out safety and welfare are being cannibalized, thousands of unemployed (particularly single mothers) are being forced out in poverty and the rich are getting richer with tax cuts, etc. Last weekend there was a countrywide donation drive for the poor people in Denmark – for the first time in 74 years! For almost 3/4 of a century there hasn’t been a need for private charity for poverty stricken people. Now we are wondering when the government are going to reinstate the poorhouse as well as the withdrawal of voting rights for the unemployed as in the Olden Days.

      • Lacia Can says:

That is so disappointing. I’ve always looked at Scandinavian countries as role models for progressive values. We here in Canada face so much pressure to be more conservative, as in more military and less social care spending. Thankfully Trudeau has 4 more years at least. I completely agree that the west is regressing as a whole. We progressives need to figure out why, and fast!

      • siri says:

But doesn’t this new law (the possibility to confiscate non-essential items of no sentimental value, and at a value higher than £1,000, on arrival only) mimic the handling of Danish (and many other Western European) citizens applying for welfare? Aren’t Danes expected to use their own income before claiming benefits as well?

  7. lightpurple says:

Let’s see, what are we tried to hide today?

Petraeus’s candidacy for Secretary of State? Petraeus, the guy who shared classified information with a mistress? That Petraeus? Because Trump would NEVER consider such a person after all the fuss he made about Clinton’s emails.

The filing of the Pennsylvania lawsuit for a recount?

His selection of a man who wants to rip apart the ACA, Medicare, and Medicaid as Secretary of Health & Human Services?

The right to burn the flag is long-established First Amendment law. BTW, Donald, do some research on the proper disposal of a US flag. Yeah, they burn them.

    • original kay says:

      Nailed it.

    • swak says:

Also the woman for Sec’y of Education that doesn’t believe in public schools.

    • bleu_moon says:

Yup, I agree. I’m not sure if Trump is doing it intentionally, but I’m convinced his henchmen certainly are. Otherwise they would have taken his Twitter away again.

      • Kate says:

This is exactly right. His “handlers” let him have his Twitter when there is a need to draw attention away from a bigger, more important story. Trump isn’t that savvy. What Trump can do well though, is put on a reality tv show. Welcome to the American Apprentice!

    • Kitten says:

      Yep. Another day, another distraction.

And this is why they won’t take his Twitter away from him–he needs it as a decoy.

    • Sixer says:

In the UK, Trump’s tweets would be called a dead cat strategy. Here’s Boris Johnson, our Foreign Secretary, explaining how campaign organiser Lynton Crosby defined it:

“There is one thing that is absolutely certain about throwing a dead cat on the dining room table – and I don’t mean that people will be outraged, alarmed, disgusted. That is true, but irrelevant. The key point is that everyone will shout, ‘Jeez, mate, there’s a dead cat on the table!’ In other words, they will be talking about the dead cat – the thing you want them to talk about – and they will not be talking about the issue that has been causing you so much grief.”

    • Josefina says:

Is he really trying to distract people with those tweets, though? We all saw how succesful the media was in hiding the Cold War from people and twitter didn’t exist back then. That’s what the entertainment industry is for. Make sure no important medium in the press writes about what you don’t want them to write about. You don’t need to have a twitter-ranting president to hide stuff.

I think the truth is as simple as it looks. Donald Trump really isn’t anything more than a bigoted twitter troll.

I imagine there’s a reason why his party hasn’t shut down his twitter yet, and obviously they’d rather have Trump dissenters complain about what they already know about him, than what they don’t. But I really don’t think Donald Trump is smart enough for that. I can imagine a few years from now the Secretary of State will try to discuss international affairs with him and he’d just be writing shit on twitter and saying “okay, yeah, yeah”. It really makes me wonder how the President-Elect of the most powerful nation in the world can find so much time to check twitter and tweet all day.

      • Kitten says:

“Governments in every corner of the world do questionable and shady things everyday, and they don’t hide those behind bigoted twitter rants.”

Look, when you have an incoming president as controversial as Donald Trump, you better believe that he will be under the microscope unlike any other predecessor. This isn’t just another day in the life of an average politician, this is a very contentious and provocative public figure who just pulled off the seemingly impossible win of the century.

“They just make sure no important medium in the press writes about that.”

…and how do they do that, exactly? Seems to me like Trump’s inevitably controversial tweets are an easy solution to that problem as history shows the press is lazy and latches on to any tweet from DT that will garner headlines. The public who didn’t vote for him loves to see how stupid he is and have their pre-existing beliefs confirmed. Meanwhile, his base gets energized with every bombastic, egocentric comment he makes. It’s a win for the public (not really, but shhhh) and a win for the press as they have a ready-made story without having to do the heavy lifting. The story effectively sells itself by virtue of the fact that what he says is insane.

I absolutely 100% believe that the Tweeting is a strategic diversion on behalf of his campaign, much like the Hamilton debacle was a way to occupy the press while Trump was settling a $25M fraud lawsuit.

And anybody who doesn’t think the GOP is that strategic and manipulative hasn’t been paying attention. Don’t underestimate them–they don’t do anything “accidentally”.

      • Josefina says:

“And anybody who doesn’t think the GOP is that strategic and manipulative hasn’t been paying attention. Don’t underestimate them–they don’t do anything “accidentally”.”

I don’t think the GOP is stupid. I think Trump is. I honestly would like to believe he’s smart enough to come up with a simple plan like that, but I really do think he’s no more than the twitter troll he’s proven himself to be for years.

To explain myself better, my point was: If Trump’s tweets didn’t exist, the people who talk about those tweets (and not his actions) would likely be talking about Kanye West’s hospitalization or the Brangelina divorce. You say they are a distraction, but that would imply people would be paying attention to his actions if the tweets weren’t there. And considering the number of people who didn’t even bother to vote, I doubt that.

      • KWM says:

Les Moonves said it best, they don’t care, it is great for CBS, will be terrible for American, they want clicks and viewers and what sucks is more people will click on a twitter rant Donald trump story than they will a story about Secretary of Education, or his lack of a blind trust, or his 1000s of conflicts of interest.

He may also be distracting from the WSJ article today about his son in law Jared and his conflicts of interest.

He might not be smart enough but his chief strategist certainly is and he knows exactly how our American short attention span works, the media and the citizens. He has us looking down while they are doing all kinds of crazy shit above our heads.

      • KWM says:

Kitten, exactly. I have a friend who has started a timeline of his tweets and stories that are unfavorable and their are just too many to be considered coincidence.

      • Kitten says:

@ Josefina- “If Trump’s tweets didn’t exist, the people who talk about those tweets (and not his actions) would likely be talking about Kanye West’s hospitalization or the Brangelina divorce. You say they are a distraction, but that would imply people would be paying attention to his actions if the tweets weren’t there. And considering the number of people who didn’t even bother to vote, I doubt that. ”

Yeah except it’s not being covered as entertainment news the way the Kanye story was, probably because compared to a fascist POTUS, a rapper’s mental health problems aren’t as relevant to the American public.

In reality, Trump’s tweets are consistently turned into front-page news stories, hardly Page Six fodder or Star Magazine shit. Mainstream media literally BURIED the news about his $25M fraud lawsuit underneath the Hamilton debacle, which was a headline in all the newspapers, on the Nightly News, and all over social media.

I think ultimately you’re missing my point. It’s not that I think every single person would be paying attention if the tweets didn’t exist. Of course, the people who have no interest in politics won’t be following what’s happening with Trump’s cabinet picks and likely won’t have much of an interest in his Tweets. This tactic only works on the people who are politically-aware and have an interest in the outcome of this presidency. But those are the people Trump’s strategists care about, those are the people who are savvy enough to see how crucial these cabinet picks are, to understand how corrupt this administration is shaping out to be.

But undoubtedly if the Hamilton story never existed, the $25M fraud story WOULD have been front-page news. Hell, I have friends who despise Trump with a passion who were going nuts about the Hamilton story on social media and not once did I see them share a link to the fraud story.

Do you really not see how well this tactic is working for him?

But hey, you don’t have to take my word for it. I certainly don’t pretend to be a political expert. But Robert Reich and masses of other non-mainstream journalists who have made a career covering politics agree with me: this IS strategic and it IS in line with the GOP’s masterful understanding of the media and their consistent ability to exploit and manipulate to their benefit.

@KWM: “He might not be smart enough but his chief strategist certainly is and he knows exactly how our American short attention span works” ^^^PRECISELY THIS.

      • Josefina says:

Well, if there is a timeline then it’s hard to argue against facts.

I guess I’m just having a cultural block here, because after almost 30 years of returning to democracy my country still has censorship more keen to de facto regimes. It’s more or less proven by now that all the important news outlets here have connections to the government (if you hear negative stories they all came from the opposition), and all the independent news outlets that told “the truth” end up selling out in just a few years. So when I read racist rants are used as cover-ups, it makes no sense to me, since you don’t need to cover up something people would never know about anyway. Here, the $25M fraud would’ve never, ever been a story anywhere outside of a communist blog ran by a 19 year old.

I… feel bad tbh. That I have assimilated limiting of free speech like that, seeing it as a natural part of running a government.

    • Who ARE These People? says:

People who complain about burning the flag never complain about burning books.

    • jwoolman says:

Some of us think the flag needs a good washing. Those pesky blood stains are hard to get out.

  8. swak says:

And who is going to pay for all those he throws in prison – the illegal immigrants that are criminals (or deport them) and now flag burners. Meanwhile all his appointments are passing under the radar along with all his business ventures which at this point should be done by a blind trust or by someone other than Trump.

    • Megan says:

Here’s the thing … if you are an immigrant and you commit a serious crime, you are deported regardless of whether or not you are in the US legally. Trump is merely committing to continue implementing existing law.

But to hear him tell it, he’s protectIng women folk from the bad men.

  9. Jenns says:

This tweet sums things up perfectly:

“Trump is not using Twitter to distract you from his agenda. Bannon & co. are using Trump to distract you from theirs.”

    https://twitter.com/BrooklynSpoke/status/802987793005809666

  10. bleu_moon says:

It’s red meat for the foaming-at-the-mouth rabid far right. The population that believes flag burner is showing disrespect for white Christian working class America in particular and take it very personally. I don’t think flag burning is even as issue in this country, but it gets the conservatives worked up. Plus it will make them happy after all the Romney talk. Next he’ll move on to people buying lobster with their food stamps. That’s another good one to rally the right wing masses.

  11. boredblond says:

Forget the security briefings- he needs a Government 101 course..perhaps using pictures to explain the constitution.

  12. robyn says:

Trump, who managed to avoid fighting for his country and who had NO empathy for a gold star father who lost his son uses the flag as a prop. He hugs it like a lollypop. Oh, look at me and how much I love this country, he says, as long as I don’t have to put my life on the line. Is burning a flag treason and as bad as colluding with Russia to win an election?

  13. HappyMom says:

I don’t understand why people act like burning the flag is the equivalent of torturing puppies. There is such a knee-jerk reaction from the right. It’s a symbol, it’s not a person.

      • Josefina says:

That brand of patriotism always leaves me so confused and distrubed tbh.

I remember when Adam Levine said “I hate this country” on The Voice after one of his guys got eliminated, and ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE. People everywhere were telling him to leave the country if he hates it so much, that he should be proud and grateful to be American, etc. And I remember I told people to chill and that it really wasn’t that serious. And then they ganged up on me.

I’ll just never understand how people can grow so proud (and fanatic, tbh) of things they didn’t choose.

      • Who ARE These People? says:

Yes, it’s hard to understand taking pride on something you were born into. Take pride in helping create it, build it, uphold its values, but blind, blanket pride? Democracy is healthier when challenged.

It’s a power play like Kapernick not kneeling during the anthem. It’s like flipping off your old man and he “just won’t take that crap anymore you disrespectful little……!!!!” These guys are in the power over mindset so much that is freaky.

This type of patriotism, especially where I live (TN) is ingrained in children starting in Kindergarten and force fed for years through our public education system. I never fully understood it, maybe because my parents didn’t exhibit it in the home.

      • jwoolman says:

It’s a religion. Some people worship the flag and get seriously bent out of shape when others don’t go along with their idolatry. The Pledge of Allegiance is their prayer and they don’t like it at all if you refuse to pray to their flag deity. Likewise with the national anthem rituals.

  16. Katherine says:

+1 to ‘he’s not that smart’

  17. NotSoSocialButterfly says:

This guy is so fn dangerously ignorant, omg.

  18. grabbyhands says:

The inevitable, dangerous outcome when the symbol becomes more important than the ideals behind it.

It’s a flag, for f*ck’s sake, not a holy relic.

  19. Rhiley says:

I wake up every morning thinking I can’t wait until January 20th when this shizz will be over and then it hits me THE NEXT FOUR YEARS will just be getting started. All this craziness is just a precursor to the madness that will be our lives. The chaos of politicians walking in front of trump, twirling, while those around him whisper, “will he choose______ or will he decide instead on ________?” And the media is so crazy lately because they don’t know how to cover trump. The only thing clear of late is they are not prepared to cover a man like trump, and so it seems a lot about his character – his insecurity, his chaotic mind, his scary ties to white f’in nationalism– is being overlooked. We now have to accept this chump because millions of people voted for him because he is a business man and says he knows how to get deals done (snake oil salesman) and he has promised to make the world better for them. I hope he does, but if trump starts screwing with our civil liberties to makes things better for a select few, the media better hold him accountable, and if they don’t then we need to hold our media accountable. Yeah, I am still pretty bitter over this election.

    • Who ARE These People? says:

Stay bitter, stay involved, and hold the media accountable NOW. They have ombudspeople and there are Letters to the Editor. I’m starting with the NY Times, which called Steve Bannon a “populist.”

  20. Kiki says:

The Trump supporters who voted for him are ridiculously stupid and RACIST. They don’t care about Donald Trump’s asinine policies are putting Governor officials that make America broke in 2008….. They think they are White and superior to others even though they are white trash and Donald Trump don’t care about those people either.

    • isabelle says:

Son’t think all of them are racist but as far as being gullible and not logical? Not the brightest lightbulbs. NYT had an article where people voted for him Florida whom desperately need health care. They voted on the hope he will do nothing to Obamacare, even though he said he was dismantling it his first day. They believe he won’t do it. I mean that is the brain power they are using and the evil part of me wants him to do exactly what he says, so their delusionary world is shook up.

  21. robyn says:

Yep … If American’s really voted for him and this wasn’t a Russian hack after all, they proved they put a few extra bucks in their wallet (which they won’t get) fear of the “other” and sexism over voting for a smart woman who wanted an inclusive society. America has set the clock backward and “America the good” is now a nauseating joke!!!

  22. Shambles says:

Did anyone see the video of the lady flipping her sh!t and saying really racist things to black employees at a Michaels? She’s a contender for Secretary of State, too.

    • Esmom says:

Yes, it’s been all over my FB. I could barely process her rant it was so crazy. Did you hear people have raised over $4,000 for the employee?

    • MC2 says:

Oh yeah- It was watching the average Trump supporter and their crazy mindset. She really thought that she was in the right and, man, I want to know what she is thinking today. I am sure she spun it to being the victim while she beats the crap out of everyone around her. There is another one right before the election of a white guy with his wife in a truck who is yelling at a black man because of traffic but goes into how his life doesn’t matter- it’s frickin’ horrible. But both of these show the average, good blooded Murican who voted Trump. I’ve seen the KKK supporters but these two are examples of the bulk of the crap in this country that feel okay about their beliefs & mistreatment of others. And their delusion that they are the mistreated ones (wtf).

      • Kitten says:

Yeah I’ve seen both videos..is anyone surprised though?
I’m not saying every single Trump supporter is like that…. surely some have better temperaments yet I do believe that deep-down they all share that same mindset, the same sense of entitlement.

    • Rhiley says:

Ok, I just watched it. Y’all she makes LeAnn Rimes look calm. Also, I have a pair of those stupid Hunter rain boots in the same color. I will be dropping them off at Goodwill this afternoon.

    • Shambles says:

She’s absolutely out of her mind, and Twitter has been taking her to task for it. It’s been really entertaining to watch. People from Chicago who know her say that she is that crazy in real life. And the truth is, she exemplifies your textbook Trump supporter. Nobody asked her who she voted for. After she started being rude to the cashier, said cashier, who is black, said, “We’re all human.” That’s what set her off. It was a “liberal” thing to say, so she started screaming about Trump, obviously as a way to throw it in the face of the POC working at the store. She called a black woman a piece of shit. She called two black women animals. She volunteered who she voted for, waving it around like a badge of honor, and then in the same breath acted like she was being persecuted for it. It is Donald Trump’s train of thought. She sounded like one of his twitter rants come to life. Even some of her mannerisms were the same.

    • SusanneToo says:

She’s a repeat offender. She’s on video going crazy at Peet’s Coffee and Tea, also. Google woman going crazy in Michael’s to see her in all her glory. And she’s been id’ed – good.

  23. LinaLamont says:

Warren tells Dems to grow a pair.. ovaries, testicles, I don’t care… just grow them!

    http://m.dailykos.com/stories/1605019

    • Rhiley says:

I listened to Mika Brzezinsky go off on Elizabeth Warren this morning over this. As if the Democrats are supposed to bow down with their tails between their legs.

      • LinaLamont says:

“As if the Democrats are supposed to bow down with their tails between their legs.”
That’s what they usually do. Sometimes, I’m ashamed to be a Democrat. Warren gives me hope.

God, how I wish the Electoral College would do its job.

    • Kitten says:

I heart that woman SO. DAMN. MUCH.

      • nicegirl says:

IKR? My daydreams lately are of a Warren/Stein ticket in 2020.

      • Lightpurple says:

They’re from the same state so it would never happen. Sorry to burst that dream

      • Lambda says:

Sorry to be a wet blanket, but in 2020 Warren is going to be close to 72. That’s too old. Kamala Harris would be one to watch, I think. And it’s interesting to note that there’s nobody right now who could present himself or herself as the leader of the Dem party coming next year. I guess Obama will have to undertake that role after January, at least for while.

      • Rhiley says:

I am rooting for Tim Ryan in 20/20. I love Warren but I don’t think she wants to president and we need voices like hers in the Senate.

  24. S says:

I agree that Trump is too dumb (and arrogant and ecocentric) to tweet anything he doesn’t believe, or want others to believe, as a distraction … But I’d certainly buy that he could be easily coerced or flattered into doing so by the horde of Machiavellian pseudo-sycophants he’s surrounded himself with.

The thing is, even if this was intended as a distraction, it’s still an utterly and totally terrifying thing for any person in the government, let alone at the highest level, to say. Chilling.

  25. Harryg says:

I feel such rage when I see his dumb orange face. Why oh why oh why did this have to happen?

    • Carmen says:

Because people want to really simple answers to a very complex problems. As someone said, never underestimate the stupidity of the American electorate.

      • Who ARE These People? says:

That was Baltimore journalist and world-class cynic H.L. Mencken. It was something like, “No one ever went broke underestimating the stupidity of the American public.”

  26. isabelle says:

He is an idiot. He probably has no idea it is considered freedom of speech and not against the law. He is that dense and unknowledgeable about the law. A flaming idiot.

    • Who ARE These People? says:

It also reflects his age, because this was an open issue during the Vietnam War protests, too. Therefore we know he’s appealing to the “My country, love it or leave it” crowd.

  27. LA says:

Problem is his supporters don’t see him as unhinged. They think everything he says is gospel and totally fine. He said it himself: he could shoot someone on 5th avenue and his supporters wouldn’t care.

  28. eggyweggs says:

Pajiba has a great article about dealing with someone with NPD (in this case, they are specifically referencing Trump). I won’t link to it, but go check it out.

  29. Ashamed 2 b a Fl girl says:

Let me see if I have this straight…No American flag burning. Check.
    Shredding the American Constitution…AOK!
    got it.

  30. Merritt says:

What a surprise. Donald Trump hasn’t read the flag code.

  31. IlsaLund says:

This country is so screwed up. My mind still can’t process how we got here. All I know is that those of us who truly love and care about our country and it’s future have to dig in and fight for what we know is right. We must be resistance fighters and not give into the normalization of fascism. And if that entails leaving so called democratic politicians in the dust, so be it.

Our country has become the laughing stock of the world. President Obama spent eight years restoring our international standing and its all come undone by idiots who want to “make America great again.” What they fail to see is that they are destroying America.

My son has friends in China who were exchange students attending his university. He communicated with them recently. His friends told him that the Chinese officials are laughing at the U.S. and consider us fools and idiots…. China considers itself poised now to become the world’s dominant country. The U.S. has gone the way of the Roman Empire.

  32. Nic919 says:

He picked a health secretary who will privatize Medicare. The flag burning tweet plays to the same idiots who have now voted their Medicare away.

  33. Scout says:

My GAWD, he is STILL tweeting about the recount? LoL, he is SHOOK.

  34. Ellie says:

Congrats American people, 200 years of democracy and you elected an autocrat. Good luck with that!

  35. Im shocked says:

I was sitting here eating a plate of chicken nuggets that my mom brought me. Read through this article and became upset. Be jailed for flag burning. It’s against thr first amendment. Reminds me of a time,2005,someone else tried to pass a law and proposed the same thing. Of course it did not pass, can’t remember who it was in 2005. It was a female, idk, but guys this is horrible and people who support this need to be educated. Where would he get such a bad idea?

  36. Bliss51 says:

But, but I thought he was working hard, so hard even on Thanksgiving to keep an American manufacturing plant from moving to Mexico??????????

  37. Eric says:

Please ignore the tweets Clockjerk Orange posts but don’t ignore the fact that he uses twitter. It’s disinformation ala Joseph Goebbels.
Collectively, the PE transition team is trying to distract you from the abominable cabinet nominations, the in-fighting that is going on there, the stripping of ACA via new HHR member, immigration legislation, etc.

Try and subscribe to your local newspaper again or a suitable national newspaper if your local paper is shite.

  38. SusanneToo says:

A question for anyone out there – didn’t he go to tony prep schools? If so, why does he speak like a bad actor playing a thug in a b-movie? His voice makes my skin crawl.

  39. Lightpurple says:

Trump is naming McConnell’s wife secretary of transportation in a total kiss butt move to keep McConnell in line.

  40. SusanneToo says:

Potatoe, potahtoe. Dan Quayle just visited trump tower. They’re really dredging the bottom of that swamp. Is d1ck cheney next?

  41. MellyMel says:

For someone who won, he is really bothered about this recount lol. And President Snow is still Mr.Twitterfingers… I wish Twitter would deactivate his account for all our sakes.

  42. frankly says:

I saw something today that read, “Trump’s tweets aren’t a distraction from Trump’s agenda – Trump is a distraction from Steve Bannon’s agenda.”

  43. LinaLamont says:

I blame the gutless Democrats and the media, equally, along with the Republicans… you know the Dems will cave and the media will comply.

I feel there should be more people signing this – not because we believe it makes Hillary POTUS, but because she is the one the majority of people voted for and yes, in a legally valid way.

  45. SusanneToo says:

Please check out today’s All Things Considered for a report on the awful person trump plans to appoint as Treasury Secretary.

  46. Scout says:

This is really happening: Donald Trump will be holding a VICTORY TOUR with rallies planned already in Cincinnati and Des Moines this week. You know who also held victory rallies? Take a wild guess!

  47. Nothingtoseehere says:

A college friend of my mothers (she was a refugee from Hitler’s Germany ) argued the flag burning case in from by of the Supreme Court. His name was Mel Nimmer. I miss them both but am glad that neither of them must witness the desecration of all they held dear.

  48. LinaLamont says:

Recount…Wisconsin tripled the estimated amount to recount.
    Read:
    https://jillstein.nationbuilder.com/recount

The movement is losing steam.. the donations have slowed down considerably.

  49. jinglebellsmell says:

it is going to be a LONG 4 years

I am putting all of my hopes into this recount

  50. AnotherDirtyMartini says:

Well, I’d say he has his priorities straight. Flag burning is a huge problem, just YUGE. I can’t turn around without running into some person burning a flag.

  51. jwoolman says:

Fight Twitter with Twitter. Anybody who already knows how to tweet should consider following President-Elect Stupid and keep bringing up the stuff he is trying to distract us from with his tweets. The media does apparently read the responses to Stupid so that might help them shift their gaze from Mr. Stupid’s shiny and noisy distracting tweets to see the real stories he is trying to hide.

  52. robyn says:

Another sleepless night. Trump and his voters have extinguished the flames of decency in America. He and his band of grinning gloating cohorts will have successes and failures, but it doesn’t matter. Voters chose a leader who will run the country like a mob boss with veiled and not so veiled threats called “negotiations”, strong-arm tactics and colluding with like-minded criminals, dictators and bigots of the world. He is making a sucker out of everyone, including Mitt Romney who I thought was a decent man. Why isn’t Trump in jail for working with Russia to get himself elected and why doesn’t anyone care that his business ties throw any thoughts about ethics out the window. Trump exposed what is rotten in America and I am heartbroken.
