Reese Witherspoon’s ‘Big Little Lies’ HBO miniseries looks so good, you guys

Here are some photos of Reese Witherspoon at this weekend’s Sing premiere. Sing is the animated film where various animals are entering a singing competition, basically. Reese plays a singing pig named Rosita, and she apparently sings a lot of Katy Perry and Taylor Swift. As for this premiere, Reese wore a cute little Elie Saab dress. I like it, it’s appropriate for this premiere and it’s flattering. Is it a tad boring? Sure.

Meanwhile, there was another reason why I wanted to talk about Reese! Earlier this year, Reese and several other actresses were hard at work on the HBO miniseries adaptation of Liane Moriarty’s Big Little Lies. Moriarty is an Australian writer best known for her very readable “women’s fiction,” books like What Alice Forgot, The Husband’s Secret, and this one, Big Little Lies. My mom read this book and she loved it, but I haven’t gotten around to reading it. I will now, because the trailer for the miniseries looks amazing. Here you go:

Reese not only stars, but executive produces this as well, which is SO SMART. She must have read the book and decided that this character was perfect for her, plus it was a perfect vehicle for a female-led cast. The miniseries also stars Laura Dern, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Alexander Skarsgard, Adam Scott, Zoe Kravitz (who looks so much like her mother, my God) and more. This looks so good, y’all.

Oh, I’m also including a photo of Matthew McConaughey and Camila at the Sing premiere too.

She loves the cross leg photo. She usually annoys me but will give it a go.

    • Zut alors! says:

I have noticed that she and other celebrities pose like that ALL THE TIME. Is there some kind of red carpet posing school they all attend? Is this the go to pose for everyone? Enquiring minds want to know!

      • bros says:

it’s visually slimming, yes. people who have had professional coaching are usually told to stand this way for photos because it makes you look half as wide.

is it just me or does that trailer not look that good at all.

      • Jen says:

Yeah, it helps to twist at the waist so it looks smaller in photos.

      • Bread and Circuses says:

If you get photographed from the hips up, it creates an optical illusion of a more hour-glass shaped body (especially if you twist at the waist, as others have noted).

Sure looks awkward when you get photographed from the shoes up, though, doesn’t it?

  2. Abby says:

I love Liane Moriarty, I’m excited to see this!!

  3. OTHER RENEE says:

Camilla Alves is gorgeous; and although I generally abhor anything with circles or polka dots, she makes that dress look amazing.

    • detritus says:

She’s beautiful ,her skin is beautiful, and the dress is making me rethink my polkahate.
Her hair mirrors the neckline if the dress. Not sure if I love that or hate it.

  4. Lucy2 says:

I am excited for this, it looks really good. I just finished the book a few weeks ago, I think it is my favorite of that author’s.
Reese has been producing some good stuff in the past few years.

    • Esmom says:

I read it but I’m embarrassed to admit that I can’t remember a thing about it. Even the trailer didn’t jog anything for me. My brain tends to be very sieve like these days but this is an extreme case of forgetting for me!

      • ab says:

same here, I read it but for some reason I can’t remember the story at all. I remember liking it, though, so I’ll have to catch this when it gets to netflix or wherever.

      • Pamela says:

You have NO idea how good your comment made me feel. I read so many books that I cannot remember a damn thing about 4 weeks later. But it seems like that is not uncommon at all, so I will stop worrying about my memory.

    • Rhiley says:

I don’t really read a lot of “chic lit” but I do love a good Liane Moriarty book. I also quickly forget their plots , or jumble them together in my head. Still they are fun, and I will certainly purchase this miniseries from Amazon to watch.

    • Nicole says:

I agree it looks amazing. I’ve been waiting for this for a while. Haven’t read the book yet I’ll have to give it a look

  5. OSTONE says:

It’s a really good book! I really enjoy Liane Moriarty as an author. Reese has been SO smart as a producer and the casting for this mini series is dead on!

  6. Bex says:

I don’t like Reese as a person all that much, but I’ll give her this: she is a seriously smart producer. The book is great and the casting is spot on. That trailer has been cut impeccably as well. Excited for this!

  7. Kaye says:

I’ll watch it for The Skarsgard. Of course, I’d pay to watch him read from a telephone book, so . . .

  8. Jayna says:

Camilla is stunning in that gown. I call it one of the absolute best red carpet looks of 2016, which is soon to be over, but had many lackluster red carpets. Camilla is a goddess in that gown.

  9. mia girl says:

I’m looking forward to watching this.
Haven’t read the book so after seeing the trailer I’m getting vibes that Reese’s character could almost be the 40 year old Tracy Flick.
Maybe it’s just because I love Election so much.

    • Rhiley says:

Yeah, Election is Reese Witherspoon’s best role. That is one movie I never get bored with, and she is superb.

  10. DesertReal says:

I love that there is a solid, talented, seasoned female cast. I’ll probably get around to watching this one day after I take a personal day & want to zone out to something during the entertainment drought after the Price is Right.
    But.
    No. Just no.
Reese irks my nerve & whenever I see her all I can think of is how shes “an American citizen” who doesn’t like to work with POC if she can help it.
I hope this does well for the sake of the other people involved…but meh.

    • Timbuktu says:

When did she say that about POC?

      • DesertReal says:

I thought it was a badly kept/somewhat open secret?
A friend of mine in NY is a production assistant & his stories about her…aren’t good.
They’re just stories, it’s cool, I get that. But they did kind of more or less confirm a feeling I’ve had about her since meeting her briefly when I lived in Charleston, SC (if memory serves her & Ryan got married there many moons ago).

  11. Lucy says:

I hadn’t paid much attention to this Sing movie until I went to see Fantastic Beasts on Friday and the trailer played before it. Now I really want to see it!

  12. MellyMel says:

I love this book so much, so I’m really looking forward to this. Reese seems to do really well as a producer and at book-to-movie adaptations. Plus this cast is amazing!

  13. Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

I LOVED the book and am looking forward to this. I find Reese somewhat annoying but she can act.

  14. mm says:

It is so strange to me that this is set in Monterey? I’m about to move there and I keep panicking because it is such a relaxed hippy area.

  15. Mannori says:

I’ve never liked as an actress, I don’t think she’s particularly gifted nor charismatic, but boy she does know how to play the Hollywood game. And that’s just another reason why I always disliked her as well.

But recently she started doing great, interesting work as a producer, focusing on stories about women, directed by women, aimed to women. Like the next series she’s developing with Robin Wright as a director and producer as well, based on the book First Women, focusing on the lives of the First Ladies of the past years. It’s a super interesting project and I’m hyped about it, because the book is really good and the people involved as well (also Spotlight producers are on board , so I expect nothing but quality stuff)

So now I have a newfound respect for Reese in what she’s putting her money where her mouth is instead of just b*tching and just talking and debating about gender disparity. Kudos to her. It’s time for action, so I hope the other Hollywood ladies will follow her example: DO. THINGS.

    • kira says:

She also has Draper James’ clothes made in Georgia. So she puts her money where her mouth is with producing her clothing line in the USA too – and manages to sell them at comparable prices to J. Crew and Banana Republic who outsource. So I too have more newfound respect for Reese.

  16. Rocío says:

    I’m totally watching this one.

  17. Josefina says:

I’ve always liked her and I’m definitely checking this out. Reese has been producing so much great stuff recently.

What I wish is she’d do another truly smart, excellently written dark comedy like Election. Movies like that are so hard to come across and she was SO. GOOD. Definitely her best performance ever. I like Reese in dramas but I’m dissapointed that’s the path her career took. I definitely enjoy her more in comedies.

  18. Beckysuz says:

Sooo…less trashy looking real housewives of Monterey?

  19. cakecakecake says:

I can always count on this site to give me a heads up on good movies and tv shows.
Thanks I want to see this, looks good! yall ROCK!

  20. Gippy says:

Anyone know if this will be available outside HBO? Like on Prime, Hulu, or Netflix? 🙂

  21. Lyla says:

I read it awhile ago and I don’t remember much about it, not even after viewing the trailer. I remember the ending and the “twist” but I won’t spoil it.

  22. Lex says:

I really enjoyed The Husband’s Secret (it was flawed but enjoyable still) and I’m planning to read her other books next. I’ll definitely watch this! I didn’t watch the preview as I am at work but I suspect it’s being set in America? That’s a shame but I’m sure it’ll be okay regardless.

  23. Andrea says:

I love this author, but I thought this was her worst book—The Husband’s Secret and What Alice Forgot were far better IMO. Still going to watch the miniseries though.
