Kristen Stewart has a blonde buzzcut now: stunning, badass or blah?

The Premiere Of 'Personal Shopper' In LA

Someone accused me of being anti-LGBTQ because I said I hated Katy Perry’s new haircut. So I imagine the comments in this post are going to be super-fun! These are photos of Kristen Stewart at the LA screening of her latest film, Personal Shopper. The screening was Tuesday night, and she debuted a new look: blonde buzzcut. Before I get into a detailed hair discussion, I just want to make some styling notes: Kristen has an awesome makeup artist and she really has a face for makeup. I’ve always said that about her and it’s still true. Her smoky eye here is amazing. Also, the pants are Sally LaPointe and it really looks like she’s wearing pantyhose under her trousers, right? Right.

As for the buzzcut… I honestly don’t hate it. It reminds me a lot of Charlize Theron’s buzz on Mad Max: Fury Road. Charlize made the buzzcut look righteous and badass, while Kristen’s looks… softer, somehow. I think it’s because she looks so delicate now. I never realized how small her head is. It definitely changes her whole look, and I think the shade of blonde is just right.

K-Stew has been changing her hair so much over the past few years, switching from brown to blonde to a bad ombre, with weaves and without, and mostly grungy throughout. I feel like this look might be an attempt to start afresh after f–king with her hair for too long. I also wonder if this is a Katy Perry-esque signal that Kristen is done with Stella Maxwell. As in, this Kristen’s breakup hairstyle.

I like buzz cuts on women, so I’m all for it.

I kept one for about a year after my hair grew back post-chemo. But it kinda made me feel obliged to wear make up more often – weird how invisible pressures you don’t think you’re subject to sneak up on you when you least expect it – so I eventually binned it. I look back with fondness though!

    • slowsnow says:

My hair is very short now (almost like Kristen’s) and I feel less tempted to wear make-up. I love how it shows the face – whatever face you have, it’s not about beauty but feeling that sometimes what we do beautywise is to hide our features rather than showing them.

      • Sixer says:

That’s how I wish it had been for me!

It’s odd, isn’t it? Because I have no motivation generally to look acceptable to others or make attempts to beautify or any of that stuff. And I love buzz cuts. So why did I feel slightly obliged to wear make up? One thinks one is immune to certain things but it isn’t always true.

These days, I veer between a very short and a medium bob, depending on how often I can be bothered to get my hair cut (not very often). And I’m back to feeling no pressure to present my face other than the state it woke up in.

      • imqrious2 says:

When my hair came back after chemo (3 yrs ago) it was as short as KS’s; I have to admit, it made me feel very “vulnerable” (if that makes sense). Like you, Sixer, I felt I had to wear make-up. I’ve kept it pixie short since, and I have to say, just that 1 1/2″ of hair makes a difference. Also, being 3 yrs. older, I realized (in my ancient wisdom! lol) that I don’t have any f**ks to give about it: this is ME… my face… like it or don’t, I don’t care anymore! I”M comfortable with it, and I think that’s the key. As long as YOU, PERSONALLY, are good with how you are/look, that makes all the difference.

    • Esmom says:

I like it, too. That’s interesting how the buzzcut made you feel you needed to wear makeup. I’ve never had a buzzcut but I have had a super short pixie and I look back at it with fondness, too. My co-worker recently got one and she looks amazing. But whenever I’m tempted I remember the process of growing it out and the temptation fades pretty quickly.

      Glad you are healthy, Sixer!

    • K2 says:

Really sorry you needed the chemo, Sixer. I’m glad it was effective.

    • slowsnow says:

Wow I focused on the make-up bit and not the post-chemo one. AARRGH.
Happy some kind souls sent you messages of love.
      Glad you’re over it @Sixer.

      • Sixer says:

Haha. Don’t worry, m’dear. Like I say, a long time ago now. And that’s one thing I’m not in the least bit sensitive about!

    • David says:

      Love her new look.

  2. juice says:

call me crazy, but this look is fantastic on her.

    • Don't kill me I'm French says:

      Her best look since always

      • Rose says:

Yep she totally pulls this off but I think she looks gorgeous all the time. I love buzz cuts for girls too, closest i got was number 6 on the razor and everyone had Opinions about it.

      • Tris says:

        Agree

    • Kata says:

She looks amazing. She has delicate features that look great with hair this short, and the colur is just right,

      • tracking says:

        +1 Gorgeous

      • Nina says:

Yeah. I had a pixie cut for most of the 2000s (throughout most of high school and half of university – occasionally with chunky blonde or cherry red highlights to boot, yikes), and as much as I tried to make it work for me, I couldn’t. My features are too prominent for me to be able to pull off very short hair. So I love it when a woman can rock a buzzcut or a pixie. I like the look on KStew.

    • LadyMTL says:

ITA with everyone, this look is fantastic. She has the face to pull it off, and it really shows off her eyes.

    • Sandy says:

I REALLY like it on her! Will done Kristen!

    • what's inside says:

She can definitely rock that hair do, particularly with the makeup. She looks really good.

    • dotdotdot says:

Agreed, she looks super awesome with her new hairstyle. Reminds me of 90’s Joan Jett when she went blonde and super short for a while.

    • SJI says:

You’re not crazy at all. I think this looks great on her. She has the face for it.

    • SilverUnicorn says:

Agree! I never liked her but she looks fabulous here.

    • Tiffany :) says:

I love it. It looks so soft, too!

    • Suzanne says:

I agree…that’s the BEST she’s EVER looked. It’s clean…her make up is spot on….I love it and I’m NOT a fan of hers what so ever.

  3. Shambles says:

Amazing. She has the perfect face for this. Sharp but delicate bone structure that’s really highlighted and complimented by the lack of hair. I love it.

  4. Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

She has the facial structure to get away with it – she really suits it.

  5. HeyThere! says:

She has the face for it. Striking features, in my opinion. Wish I could pull off a buzz cut! It would be so easy and no maintance. I’m too pregnant and my cheeks are too full. Hahah.

  6. SusanneToo says:

I think she looks great. She’ll be on Colbert tonight for anyone interested.

  7. Erinn says:

I’m getting eminem vibes in the first photo, haha.

Honestly though, it kind of makes sense. Part of me is surprised she didn’t do this sooner.

  8. smcollins says:

I love it. She has such a beautiful face and is totally rockin’ it. I could never in a million years pull off this look. She looks incredible.

    • Amide says:

All of this. And even if she wanted it long, Mohawk, whatever…….it’s her hair. And just hair.

    • Aren says:

      Do it!
I hate all this comments about how “she has the face for it”, as if only girls that where born according to a certain standard of beauty are allowed to cut their hair.
Don’t conform, enjoy your life, and your freedom to make decisions.

  9. Heat says:

I think it’s nice, and it suits her.

  10. Deanna says:

    She looks stunning.

I really wish I could rock short hair (just a little longer than this), but my hair is so thin that I don’t think it would work.

(Also, I feel a little bad for saying it, but I’m so relieved to see Kristen without her greasy locks. She looks so much cleaner)

  11. saywot says:

Hopefully now she won’t look a greasy mess…

  12. Bex says:

I think I read somewhere that it’s for a role? Either way it really suits her IMO.

    • JulP says:

Yeah I think it’s for Underworld, which begins shooting soon.

She definitely looks better with shorter hair in my opinion, longer hair kind of overwhelms her delicate facial features. I do like the buzz cut but not the bleach blonde color (but then again, it’s for a role apparently)

  13. Zuzus Girl says:

Her posture absolutely kills any look she has. Stand up straight! (Yes, I have become my mother but the constant slumped, hunched body drives me crazy.)

    • Beth says:

When I don’t stand or sit straight up,I get wicked bad back aches. Stand up!

    • AtlLady says:

Back in my teen-aged days (when dinosaurs roamed the Earth), we were told to stand up straight and throw our shoulders back, pushing our breasts out front and tucking our behinds. Now, the girls stick their behinds out to make them look bigger and to get that thigh gap. It looks so uncomfortable and unnatural.

  14. Adrien says:

She looks great. She can pull it off because she has a small face. I prefer this one over Katy’s hairdo which, tbh, looks like Alf’s hair. I am probably the only one who finds her pretty. I always say she is the goth version of Amber Heard but I think she is prettier than Amber. She is the emo version of Teresa Palmer (a compliment btw).

  15. Sullivan says:

    Stunning. She is gorgeous.

  16. Amanda says:

It actually kind of suits her oddly enough.

  17. Kiki says:

@Kaiser. Then I must be anti-LGBTQ too because I too absolutely hate Katy Perry’s haircut as well. I don’t mind Katy Perry hair to be short but if you want be bad ass with your haircut then be bad ass with your hair cut like Rihanna. The Miley Cyrus haircut is just don’t right ridiculous.

As for K Stew. I love her make up. I am not a fan of her buzz cut color blonde. If she had her hair brown I would absolutely love it.

    • Esmom says:

I like the blonde but I agree that brown would also be stunning.

    • Eye rolling every day here says:

It’s just a hair cut, how can it be anti anything? How joyless to have to continually obsess over every action, word and thought lest someone get offended. Do people really want to live this way?

      • Anon33 says:

Also the last time I checked Katy wasn’t lgbtq (fake ass “I kissed a girl” aside), so I’m not sure how it’s anti-anything aside from anti-Katy’s hair. And isnt it just as stereotypical to assume only lgbtq women get buzz cuts?

  18. ElleBee says:

I came here to hate on the cut because I find her annoying but it looks fantastic on her. Her best look to date.

  19. Giddy says:

I’m surprised that I like this, but I truly do. Her delicate features and incredible make-up are gorgeous with this cut.

  20. Kris says:

The thing about Kristen Stewart is that – on first glance – she is a very attractive woman. I always found her attractive. But she seems so uncomfortable with being attractive that it makes her unattractive. I have mixed feelings about that buzzcut – it seems as if she is waering it only because she wants to make herself “ugly” – she doesn’t look comfortable with. She look self-conscious, like always, like when she is biting her lips. But apart from that, she still looks great – it’s just that feeling off being uncomfortable that she gives off!

I don’t envy her – I kind want to shake her a little and tell her to get some self-confidence – every woman deserves to feel comfortable in her body!

    • Blu says:

Really?!? I’ve always found her very plain faced. …This comment made me laugh out loud …”uncomfortable with being attractive”??… She tries to look nonchalant by biting her lips, it nothing to do with her looks(or lack thereof).

      • L says:

Blu … if you think kristen is plain and lacks looks i dread to think what you would thibk about me. Jeez….

      • Kris says:

No, I really do think she looks uncomfortable, and I get that somehow. I am attractive myself (it’s true according to the feedback I have received all my life), and I can tell you that it can be uncomfortable sometimes. I have had times in my life where I wanted to hide (=sacky clothes, slouching, dressing and styling “down”), where I tried the weirdest stylings to distract from – what I perceived to be – my “plain” attractiveness. I felt as if people were unable to see “me”. If you are good looking, have big breasts and measure 1,80m, people WILL stare when you enter a room. It’s a reality and it can be annoying. And it can definitely make you feel uncomfortable (like, do I have something on my nose? – Probably not.; Do I look stupid in this dress? – likely not; Are people staring? – DEFINITELY.)

        And I’m not famous. So.

Maybe I project my own experience onto her, after all, I have obviously never met her, But from the pictures I have seen of her over the years, she gives off that vibe where she isn’t comfortable in her body. Which I found such a waste, because, as I said, every woman has something to feel beautiful about and SHOULD be comfortable in her body. No matter how they look, or what their styling is, or what their haircut is. So seeing a – by most standards – attractive woman like Kristen Stewart look that uncomfortable with herself all the time, is really quite unfortunate.

      • dotdotdot says:

Maybe she is just an awkward person?

      • Eye rolling every day here says:

Beauty is subjective. I think she is pretty but not beautiful and I don’t like her persona or style or anything. Doesn’t make it bad or wrong for her of course, I just don’t like it. And I don’t have to. But I do like her hair here actually. I’ve had similar hair and it is easy to deal with!

  21. Pinar Okur says:

Does she have bruises on her arm???

  22. QueenB says:

If you have a good looking face you can get away with pretty much all hair styles.

  23. Sara says:

It looks good on her, but I suppose anything would be an improvement from her usual greasy mess.

  24. MarcelMarcel says:

I LOVE a buzzcut on her!✨ It looks amazing! A few of my friends have buzzcuts and they all look amazing. I’m sometimes tempted to try it but I’m rocking short dark hair with an undercut, basically à la Rihanna in the Diamonds video (unintentional but I felt stylish as f—k when I realised).

Meanwhile Katy’s hairstyle doesn’t look good and it’s not anti LGBTI+ to say so. Particularly given that she’s heterosexual (or at least I’ve only seen her date men). As a queer woman I feel like that kind of criticism is just missing the point. You’re a fantastic writer Kaiser and assuming you’re straight I consider you a great ally for the LGBTI+ community.🏳️‍🌈💖✨

    • Anon33 says:

Thank you!! I said the same above about the Katy thing. It’s absolutely missing the point.

  25. smee says:

I love it. At her age and weight, she can pull off that hair cut and color. The make-up looks fantastic and she looks comfortable in the clothes. And, if you think back to the greasy long hair days, this is a big improvement.
She seems like she’s coming into her own these days, not so unsure and lip-bitey.

  26. Lolo86lf says:

I love her new look! She looks fresh and effortlessly beautiful. She is growing as an actress. After the disaster of the mini-cooper affair a few years ago, I hope we can forgive and forget and move on for God’s sake, none of us are perfect angels.

    • L says:

Oh for god sake .. who are we to think we need to ‘forgive’ her. Does anyone talk about tiger woods being forgiven? Nope. And kristen was tame compared to him. I always said it was women who slut shamed kristen.. most men didn’t care enough to rip into her the way women did. I think the over reaction to all that was an embarrassment and i love that kristen just got on with her life. I still think it infuriates certain posters that she is still around and has the better career….

      • Eye rolling every day here says:

Sorry but if you are involved with a married person you should be shamed and so should they. The basic disrespect towards others is repugnant and unacceptable and frankly, there is nothing that can be said where I wouldn’t find the people involved in it, disgusting and worthy of shame. If you treat people so callously, the people who are supposed to be closest to you, all so you can get some…you deserve what you get. What is the benefit of making unacceptable behavior ok? All of the complaints about the lack of empathy and compassion and this is ok? Confusing to say the least!

      • L says:

Oh go back to the 1950s. I couldn’t give a hoot who she sees and i’m sick of seeing comments saying she should be shamed and claw her way back to forgiveness while you have a disgusting pig in the white house who thinks it’s ok to grab women’s privates. I bet you are the typical “SHE IS A CHEATER!!!!!” poster prevalant on every story about her. I’m not ok with slut shaming somebody for a mistake they did when they were 21. Oh to be as holy as you.

      • Doodle says:

        I love you, L.

  27. Kristen says:

She looks amazing. She is naturally such a beautiful woman, I think, and this kind of strips everything away so you can really see her facial features. And I don’t think she was really a big shower-er (no shade, I don’t like to shower either), so this just looks cleaner. I’d do this if I had a litttttttle bit more confidence in myself.

  28. Mar says:

Wow it’s amazing. Very few could pull that off

  29. slowsnow says:

I love her buzzcut and the clothes – they are strange and yet, make sense to me.

  30. Lucy says:

Honestly? I love it. Perfectly styled, too, with the makeup and outfit. I remember she once talked about doing this one day. Truth is, she can wear almost every haircut and color there is.

  31. Anon says:

Separated at birth with Susan Powter

    • Tig says:

You made me choke on my coffee-LOL! Wonder if anyone is trying to figure out who Susan P is? And totally agree with the observation.
She can totally pull off very heavy eye makeup, so get where that’s the default to a lot of red carpets for her.

  32. Neelyo says:

Echoes of Jean Seberg. I approve.

    • SusanneToo says:

I had that cut in 1961. I was going for Seberg in Breathless and got Seberg in Saint Joan. After that I let it grow till it reached my ankles.

  33. Brandi says:

She rocks it. Love it on her.

  34. Snowflake says:

    She looks really good!

  35. QQ says:

Never had I ever openly Yasssss Biitttcchh’ed a Kristen Stewart post and yet here we are YAAASSS BIITTTCCHHHHHH with cho bad self (then again im full disclosure Im cut obsessed, have rocked baldies and currently thre bleach on the purple t “fix” something and so Im more compromised here than A Trump on a Russian trip in a room full of sex workers with no available bathrooms and a case of gatorade

I AM PRESSED her makeup clothes, color, the way her hair has swirly growth I AM FOR THIS

  36. L says:

She looks amazing. Not many women can pull this off. I couldn’t do this. She has a perfect shaped head and a delicate face. I am getting early sinead o’connor vibes.

  37. JudyK says:

Stunning! Would like it better brunette, but this works, too.

  38. Jeebus says:

The haircut makes her look androgynous which looks amazing on her.

  39. NOLA says:

She looks so bad a$$ and gorgeous. I love it.

  40. Gene123 says:

I actually…love this. SHe has the bone structure and the “edgy” persona to pull it off. honestly, I am just happy that after Twilight she’s finally able to be herself and if this make her comfortable in her own skin, so be it. do it.

  41. Ginger Gal says:

Holy crap she is stunning. And her eyes look huge in this cut.

  42. Zeze says:

No more dirty, greasy hair for her! Perfect!

  43. Dizzy says:

Beautiful! She has a lovely face

  44. OSTONE says:

    She is stunning!

  45. Clara says:

    She looks stunning.

  46. Beth says:

I think she looks great. Very pretty this way. My long hair is frustrating when it gets tangled and takes forever to wash, I’ve joked about shaving it all off forever. I’d never have the guts to actually do it.

    • Lady D says:

I saw computer sites where you add your picture and you can try out a myriad of different hair styles and colours on your face. I think it was $15 to access the site, but I’m sure there are probably free ones out there by now. You might like what you see rocking a pixie cut.

  47. Beckysuz says:

I actually think this is a great look for her. And I’ve always been obsessed with her smokey eye looks. Girl can pull off a lotta lotta makeup. I love a strong eye. I wish I could cut all my hair off. Sadly since its curly it’s harder for me to cut it. Then Id have to wash and style it more and I’m lazy. Topknot for life

  48. Laura says:

    Stunning, beautiful, and badass!

  49. M says:

It reminds me of Legend of Billie Jean – “Fair is Fair”

  50. Leah says:

I like the buzz cut on her but not the blonde hair.

  51. aerohead21 says:

I don’t particularly mind the cut but I don’t like the blond. I miss the Winona Ryder pixie style really. And I read somewhere that this cut is for a part she’s getting ready to start?? Idk…

  52. JudyK says:

Second Comment: After looking at the latest pic of Khloe Kardashian, I would just like to add that, Kristen, you are far sexier than ANY of them.

    • Anon33 says:

Let’s not got carried away here. Cut absolutely looks great and she has a gorgeous face, but girlfriend is not “sexy” and never has been. That slouch alone precludes it.

  53. Sabby says:

She’s beautiful and I love this look on her!! FYI her usual makeup artist is Beau Nelson and I almost always love what he does with her makeup. <3

    • detritus says:

Her makeup is always impeccable. This look is perfect too, and the brows have me super envious.

  54. sage says:

She has always been a pretty woman and the buzzcut compliments her features.

  55. Penelope says:

I think she looks fantastic. Wow.

  56. zan says:

Stunning! She reminds me of Coco Rocha, same bone structure.

  57. shannon says:

I love it! She looks great. I’ve gone that short twice – both times it felt so great and freeing!

  58. loveotterly says:

My first thought was she looks absolutely stunning, my second thought was “what a beautifully shaped head!”. I guess I’m self conscious of mine because it’s pretty misshapen in the back (accident as a baby). I’m glad I can hide under a mop of hair or it would look very odd indeed. #jealous

  59. L84Tea says:

I’m personally not a buzzcut person (not even on men), but I will admit this is a good look for her and she can pull it off.

  60. Carmen says:

I’m in a definite minority here but she really bugs the bejesus out of me. Same slouchy posture, same vacant expression and same dead eyes. It never changes.

  61. detritus says:

This look is total man repeller wonderful, she’s really leaning in and it looks fantastic on her. Make up is excellent, buzz cut the best since Sinead. Minor quibble, the whole crop top and pant idea is great, but not loving those particular pants, cannot unsee pantyhose.

  62. bitchyarchitect says:

late to the party here- but is this haircut only for youngun/s or can even a middle aged architect have a go? Thoughts? Was thinking about going for a buzz cut once this wrtched winter ends.

    • mädchen says:

Forget what everyone else is thinking about it(age, occupation, etc.)
If you want it for yourself- do it!
Also I love your occupation, very cool, but must be difficult as with any male dominated field.

      • bitchyarchitect says:

        @madchen
thanks so much for the encouragement regarding the buzz cut!. Im afraid I don’t have any encouraging things to say about my chosen career path… ( today)
it sounds really cool at cocktail parties to say you’re an architect but the reality is its a terrible industry for women. But its also not a great industry for men either-unless you’re loaded. Not that I’m bitter.
