Star: Suri Cruise only eats with chopsticks

Katie Holmes, Suri Cruise

One of the reasons I think most of us believe the stories about Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes and Suri is because they all seem so logical at the time. “Logical” meaning that when you roll with Xenu, anything’s possible. So even though this report comes from Star, it seems completely plausible. They’re reporting that Suri has gotten it into her head that chopsticks should be used for every kind of food. Not only that, Katie seems to indulge this quirk, carrying chopsticks for Suri at all times, even when Suri wants to eat food that isn’t traditionally a chopstick-friendly item:

A silver spoon isn’t good enough for Suri Cruise. The cultured tot eats exclusively with chopsticks!

Since mom Katie Holmes taught the 3-year-old, “Suri doesn’t like to eat with anything else,” says a source.

During a recent visit to Le Pain Quotidien, “She wouldn’t touch her sandwiches and pastries without them!”

So Katie has started carrying a pair in her purse for her little princess.

“It’s the only way she can get her to eat!”

[From Star Magazine]

It seems totally possible, doesn’t it? And not just because of Katie and Tom’s weirdness, but because kids develop those little eating quirks all the time. I certainly had my share when I was a kid, and it certainly helps if you are an actual only child (me) or a lot younger than your siblings (Suri), because then you’re surrounded by adults who indulge your every whim because they think it’s so cute. Taken with Suri’s princess stuff, I can totally buy that whatever Suri wants (“Mama, I WANT chopsticks!”) Suri gets (“Chopsticks, NOW, mama!”). Oh, and I would love to see a three year old try to eat a sandwich with chopsticks. My guess is that there’s a lot of “stabbing” with the chopsticks.

Here’s Katie taking Suri to ballet class on May 18th. Images thanks to INF Photo.

    BS. Just, BS.

  2. HashBrowns says:

Meh, it might be BS, might not.

I definitely went through a chopsticks phase though, but when I was about 11. My mom took us to our first sushi restaurant and we learned how to use chopsticks. My sisters and I thought they were awesome so we tried eating everything with them.

    It didn’t work out 🙂

But yes, I think it’s entirely plausible. Like Kaiser said, kids adopt little eating quirks.

  3. Anna says:

    complete BS

  4. Ashley says:

    Whatever

  5. jess says:

i too went through a chopstick stage lol. i still love them! since they talk about an actual restaurant, im betting if this story is true, one of the waitstaff leaked it.

  6. Amy says:

Even if this was true, who cares? Kids this age do unusual things. Obviously Star is trying to make Suri seem like a freak but if the best they can do is obsessive chopsticks use, they need to find better sources.

  7. Exiled says:

This is plausible… kids will be kids… I had weird quicks. I only wanted to eat on my tea set plates

  8. Wench. says:

I’m 21 and going through a chopstick phase!

  9. Sunnyjyl says:

LOL. My kids went through a chopsticks only phase. I really didn’t mind that particular phase. The one that I had a hard time with was the anti-bathing phase. Lasted two weeks. (You can force anything, or wait it out a week or two, and they usually get over it). My line in the sand was disrespect, being unkind and unsafe behavior.
I hardly see this as ‘princess’ behavior.

  10. Cinderella says:

Katie is looking more beat every day, but that enormous rock still shines on.

  11. Annie says:

As someone who refused to use anything but chopsticks until I was like 10, I think it’s completely plausible.

I mean, if it was a little asian baby who wanted to use chopsticks all the time, no one would doubt it…but since it’s Suri…there’s doubt?

  12. lisa says:

    Oh boy…

  13. Magsy says:

Oh my gosh—-that’s it—call child protective services. Big deal she probably sleeps in her little tutu too! She’s a kid and not only a kid, but a rich kid, and possibly a spoiled kid. Let her be a kid.

  14. lrm says:

it’s not even a ‘weird quirk’. It’s called exploring life…kids do that so well. ‘hey, something new,let me see how far i can go with it’….
    who cares either way?
heck,if an adult wanted to use only chopsticks and carried them everywhere, yea, everyone would think it strange…but honestly,it’s not. enjoy your life,if it’s not hurting anyone,no harm done….

  15. ChristinaT says:

i don’t believe stories like this, where there is ample opportunity for pictures, but no actualy photographs to account for. if suri was having her every meal with chopsticks, wouldn’t there be at least one picture to go with the story?

  16. the original kate says:

no big deal…all kids go through odd phases with food. when i was little i refused to eat unless a place was set at the table for my imaginary friend, simmy, who was a large white mouse in a sailor suit, and my sister wouldn’t eat anything that was brown for about 2 years.

  17. Cheyenne says:

I’d love to see her eating Jello with chopsticks.

  18. tinylady says:

what a stupid story. who gives a rats ass.

  19. BlueSkies says:

Tom’s tool. The both of them.

  20. ziner13 says:

Again, big story for what – chopsticks! Who really cares and where are the chopsticks? Just another reason to expose these two for nothing and boring.

  21. Jag says:

lol That’s cute. I will say that I really like Katie for indulging such creative behavior. And no, I’m not a Scientologist – just someone who thinks that children can be raised in a more flexible manner with clothes and how they eat. Now the bottle for so long? No way.

  22. caribassett says:

ROFL. That must be hilarious to watch. 3 year olds are so determined and serious in their endeavours. Mine will only wear “Dorothy” shoes, this has been going on for a year and a half. No matter the outfit, ruby slippers. She is a hoot.

  23. gg says:

lol, my two sisters and I always ate Thanksgiving dinner (turkey and all) with chopsticks as a contest. I somehow can’t see a 3-year-old managing chopsticks very well.

  24. snorkey says:

how can anyone care? that little girl is not even cute! and that is rare for any child, being mostly all kids are cute. But suri cruise is not. I believe that she is also going to be a very disturbed child. That father is way way too egocentric and now that he’s aging, and not any kind of real actor, not good, not good at all. Katie knows she’s make a mistake, knows she had too much to learn about life, and realizes what am immature statement she made” He’s the most amazing man in the world!” she’ll pull out of it.

y i never toms got a baby no one told me

  26. Violet says:

Ha!! I only eat my popcorn with chopsticks 🙂
