Lily Allen is not a Susan Boyle fan. Unfortunately for Susan, while she’s received a record amount of support thank to over 100 million YouTube hits, there’s been an inevitable backlash. Lots of people have complained about suffering from Susan Boyle fatigue. I’m a big champion of the underdog, so I could read about her all day. But I understand how people get tired of her – especially considering that Susan didn’t even give her second performance until Sunday! That’s six weeks in which we were all marveling over just one song.
I thought her version of “Memories” from Cats was fine, but the timing was a bit off in spots. It’s easily attributable to nerves. And frankly, Susan’s been so built up that we probably expected nothing short of shocking perfection from her. She did a great job. But Lily Allen doesn’t get what all the hype is about – and claims Susan’s gotten all of the attention because of her looks, not her talent.
Lily Allen doesn’t see what the big deal is about Susan Boyle.
Last weekend, the 48-year-old Scottish singer landed in the final round of Britain’s Got Talent after beating out seven other performers by belting out “Memory” from the musical Cats.
But Allen said (via Twitter), “I thought her timing was off on Britain’s Got Talent on Sunday – no control, and I don’t think she has an amazing voice.”
“She can sing,” Allen admitted, “but it’s not about talent with her, is it?”
Boyle “seems like a lovely lady but, if the show is about talent, then that Shaheen [Jafargholi] kid should win.”
The Britain’s Got Talent finale competition takes place this Saturday.

Lily Allen gets as much attention for criticizing others as she does for her own music. She wasn’t incredibly snarky – at least given some of the things she said about other celebs. She’s not a fan, and that’s okay. And I think her point about Boyle’s timing was fair. But Lily is a professional and sings all the time, whereas Susan Boyle probably doesn’t have the advantage of all the help and coaching Allen gets. Boyle’s talent is more raw, and given that, it’s reasonable to think she could beat just about any singer if given enough practice and coaching. I still bet she’ll win – not only does she have the requisite talent, but she’s got an endearing personality and has captured worldwide attention.
Since we’ve seen Susan’s performance, here’s another “Brittan’s Got Talent” semi-finalist dance group Flawless.
I think the only person Lily Allen is impressed with is herself. Maybe she should try recording music, instead of insulting others to give herself press. That really seems to be her thing these days.
Lily’s opinion is only meaningful to Lily.

I agree absolutely with Lily. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: if “SuBo” looked like, say, Lily Allen, she would have been yawned off the stage before the judging round.

I agree with Lily. I am so sick of Susan Boyle. The only reason anyone gives a damn about her is because she’s ugly and can sing. Everyone seems to be stunned that an ugly woman can sing, that’s the only reason this has gotten to the point it has.

Maybe if Boyle was stumbling around, half naked and drunk as a fool, then Lily would be impressed with her.
How exactly was this “over-exposure” her fault? It seemed to me that her instant fame was spread by “the people”, instead of by professional marketers like most celebs and shows.
Her Memories performance did have mistakes noticeable by this untrained ear. She recovered pretty good IMO.
But in addition to her mini-makeover of trimming those natty brows, and slightly smoothing her frizz, she needs to make-over her behavior. I’ve noticed people that get their 15 minutes of fame fade more quickly if they’re annoying. She initially comes off as being humble, but then does those dufus body moves. Stop it.
Oh, and as far as Lily Allen, while I’ll comment on others in the limelight, I’m a nobody on the social/celeb scale. If I were a celeb or public figure, I’d try very hard not to be heard speaking negatively about another public figure. I hold celebs to a different set of rules than everyday people, and don’t care for public snarky remarks against others getting their little piece of fame-pie.
I agree with Lily, it seems so many people are more amazed that a pretty voice can come out of maybe what many deem an unattractive person. The trick is for judges to close their eyes and concentrate on the voice. That seems the fairest way to decide. However looks always seem to enter into things at some point.

Lily Allen does mention that Susan Boyle can sing, she did write, that Susan Boyle, seemed like a lovely person. At no point did Lily Allen compare, her singing voice, to the voice of Susan Boyle. however the writer of the article is suggesting that this is exactly what she means. People that don’t like Lily Allen won’t go to her twitter page, simply because, well, in this case it’s written down, but those people are not hearing what is written. They do hear that Lily Allen gets more attention for criticizing others. They add up every bitch slap fight, that the tabloids image in their own heads. Then the hater’s disappear, and don’t react, until they find something negative. This is not lily Allen”s problem, it’s yours. Most of what she has written is about unfair judging, and how Susan Boyle received special treatment, away from her talent, because Susan Boyle became more of a peoples champion. That is not even close to reality! The fact is, a person’s entire being – voice, manner and looks – ALL come into play when deciding who we like.
I think what is appealing about Susan Boyle is that many singers’ good looks overcome their poor singing, whereas Susan’s singing overcame her looks. It’s the opposite of what we all too often see in pop music.

Didn’t she complain about negative people on the internet who write rubbish about others? Poor Lily, been around for 4 years and still can’t get more than a few hits on the internet. Why blame Susan for ebing over exposed? It is not her fault. She has not courted publicity like the Lily Allen’s of this world.
She is just trying to get attention for herself by ripping on someone else who is getting attention. The thing about British celebrities is that they don’t seem to get the concept of “hating” and it doesn’t occur to them that they just look desperate and jealous by talking smack about another celebrity. Susan Boyle is overrated! Not because of her singing abilities but, because Susan Boyle appeared on a reality show, that provides “INSTANT” fame for people with natural talent. It would make anyone appear overrated!
