I don’t really have much to say here other than “HATS! HATS! HATS!” These are photos from the annual Cheltenham Festival in England, one of the favorite events for many in the royal family. After her tragic miscarriage late last year, Zara Phillips made an outing at the festival on Wednesday. The Duchess of Cornwall attended the festival today. Princess Anne – HRH the Princess Royal – was also at the festival, and she too had a great hat. So let’s have a Hat-Off. Should I give it a name? The Annual Celebitchy Cheltenham Festival Hat-Off Debate. Who has the best hat??? First up: Duchess Camilla and a strong entry just days before St. Patrick’s Day. So green! And so flattering. Green is one of her colors.
Princess Anne eschews large, fruffy hats. Large hats will get in her way. This is probably the most utilitarian of all the unnecessary hats at Cheltenham.
Zara gets an A+ because her ensemble seems designed specifically to showcase the teal hat. It’s a great size and a great pop of color. I might have to deduct a few points because I suspect Zara is wearing it too low on her forehead.
BONUS HATS.

I love Anne’s sunglasses. She looks like a boss in them. Oh, Zara was my favorite hat.
Princess Anne is the winner, even though those look like pheasant feathers. I like Camilla’s hat, but I don’t like it at ALL with that dress!
Zara’s is…weird.
Three pictures down from Zara’s last picture: I LOVE the woman on the right. Her hat, her attitude, her everything.
Camilla’s hat clashes with her outfit: the pea green doesn’t go with the green of her suit. Zara’s teal doesn’t feel right with the navy (again, seems to clash to me). The others are kind of wild and fun, not *serious* hats 😊 But Anne… that expression, those glasses! Anne is definitely the winner here!
Definitely the best!
For some reason I YELLED ” OH B*TCH” all loud at Anne’s Something about the way those feathers is giving it all to me sooo That’s my Vote
Agreed. Anne is tossing old-school royal attitude and it is FIERCE. Then again, I’ve always adored her no f***ks given attitude.
I thought I was going crazy cause it hit me very deep and thunderously but I see the thread, we all felt it
Anne totally carries that hat off with an attitude (and the spiffy shades).
Anne. My words won’t convey what the hat – sunglasses – coat – her perfect non-smile non-grimace. Bravo Anne!
I loooove Anne’s hat! And gosh does she ever look like her Mum in that first photo!!
I’m going with Anne’s. Zara’s hat is gorgeous but Anne’s is all-over attitude. When someone walked by it, it said, “Sit Down” without setting one hair on Anne’s head out of place.
I love all the fascinators, especially Zara’s. It’s a little low on her forehead, but it still looks lovely to me.
Anne’s hat and the girl’s on the left in the last photo! I like Camilla’s hat too — although I’m troubled by the fact that her hat is a yellow-based pea green, while her suit appears to be a blue-based mint green (at least on my monitor.) I don’t think the hat and the suit have to be all matchy-matchy — but this incongruity in tone keeps gnawing at me.
The combination reminds me of a line from a Cormac McCarthy book, about how the Irish think every shade of green goes with every other shade of green. The hat is great, the outfit is great, just not together.
First thought: what in the f**k.
Second thought: are those feathers of exotic birds or just peacocks?
Anne’s. All day.
I want an excuse to wear a totally extravagant and ridiculous hat. I want many excuses, actually.
Anne’s hat. Then Zara’s (no, it’s not too low, it’s just right, but the teal argues too much with the navy). I usually love Camilla’s things, but this out fit and her stapled purple one are not my favorite.
In one set of photos, Zara’s dress is peeking out. On my computer, it looks like the dress under the coat may match the hat.
I love, and somehow fear, Anne. My first thought upon seeing her hat was that she had one of those Aquis hair turban towels twisted around and pinned with feathers. I love my turban towels and while Anne is surely too no-nonsense to use such a towel, she rocks it on that hat.
Anne is one of my fave royals. I like her style – she knows what she likes/suits and wears it with attitude. She’s just like her father, no nonsense and tells it how it is.
I love the intentional ridiculousness of it so much I can even ignore that practical part of my brain that always says, “But why is her hat attached to the side of her head?”
I don’t like Anne’s hat, but I like it on HER, and give her the win for her total style statement! Agree, she looks fierce, AND like her mum!
Princess Anne is a P.I.M.P. boss in that hat!
