Ivanka Trump’s hilariously petty, wine-drinking neighbor is giving interviews now

Over the weekend, LGBTQ protesters did a big, loud, dance-filled protest outside of Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner’s Washington home. Jared and Ivanka are renting a mansion in the ritzy Kalorama neighborhood of DC, and their neighbors absolutely loathe them. The Secret Service detail on Ivanka’s family is making everything a living hell for the neighborhood and the neighbors have already been shading the sh-t out of Ivanka and Jared to press outlets. So when the protesters showed up this weekend, one beautifully petty neighbor decided to watch the protest from her front porch. This hero’s name is Dianne Bruce, and the photo of a fur-coat-clad Ms. Bruce smiling whilst enjoying a glass of wine has gone viral. So much so that both People Magazine and Cosmo did interviews with her. She is hilarious. She told People:

Why she watched the protest: “I couldn’t resist, it was just great fun, it really was. I love seeing people having fun and doing what they do. It added pizazz to the neighborhood.”

Why she wore a fur coat: “I went back in, it was chilly enough, and I thought I’d grab the first thing I could find. It wasn’t a statement or anything, it was just neighbors enjoying some fun on a Saturday night.”

She loved all of the protest-dancing: “They put on quite a show. My car was parked on the street and they walked right by it. It was very well done. There was no trash left, and they were gone by 9:30.”

She says the Kushner-Trumps have been “a little disruptive”: “When Ivanka and Jared’s children go to the park, they closed down the whole park so the children can play, that annoys people.” Ivanka’s house is on a corner, “and they have big ugly saw horses and crowd control-gates all over, and we’re not allowed to walk on the sidewalk,” Bruce says, “and they put a porta potty on the street (for the Secret Service) around the corner….I don’t know why they picked that house, it’s not a very private house. We were all sort of surprised she picked that house.”

[From People]

She also spoke to Cosmo and she talked about how much she enjoyed watching all of the dancing. She says they put on a great show and most of the neighborhood came out to watch the protesters. She also says that the Obamas now live down the road and they’re not anywhere near as disruptive, and that President Obama goes for walks sometimes with a small detail and he always waves hello. *cough*

      Lol wut?

    • NotSoSocialButterfy says:

She’s like a Monet- pretty from a distance, but get close and you realize it’s really kind of a mess. Personally, I do not find her attractive- her melon/face shape is just like her repugnant father’s.

      • QQ says:

LOLOLOL Yeah.. I was struck in the Gayle interview by how the veneers seem to be not exactly facilitating her natural speech…

      • NotSoSocialButterfy says:

Haven’t seen that interview, but there’s a head shot of He Went to Jared today showing a whole lot of wrinkles on that young man. Drink some water and moisturize, for god sake. I’m 51 and am just starting to get crow’s feet. A toll is definitely being taken on them all.

    • lisa says:

i love you qq, you are my friend in my head

    • LadyMTL says:

I love this post so much…”oranges can’t be touched up” hahahahaha. QQ, I wish I knew you IRL, you must be a blast.

    • Angela82 says:

Very few people look better after plastic surgery IMHO, especially when its as excessive as Ivanka’s and done at such a young age. I don’t get why naturally good looking women alter themselves for men. I hate her, but she looked better with whatever flaws she had before and elected to change. 🙁

      • Sarah says:

The exception to that: Jane Fonda. I stare at her every time she is on screen, marveling at how gorgeous, younger and like herself she looks. Man. She has some surgeon.

      • Rascalito says:

I was thinking the exact same thing today too about Jane Fonda while watching a bunch of Grace and Frankie episodes. She’s really stunning!

    • burnsie says:

Omg I’ve noticed the accelerated aging too!! They’re all aging like crackwhores. I just went back and watched the Gayle interview and those veneers are insane – she has that fake lisp and everything

  3. Dtab says:

Best photo ever…. I would be the exact same.

    • Erinn says:

She just looks SO thrilled, honestly.

Also the ““They put on quite a show. My car was parked on the street and they walked right by it. It was very well done. There was no trash left, and they were gone by 9:30.”” bit got me.

    • Nicole says:

Me too. I would be out there handing out refreshments to protesters and laughing

    • sarah says:

“It was very well done. There was no trash left, and they were gone by 9:30.”

Best.Protest.Ever. It was kind of like a parade going by our front door, she said.

    Love her

    Bahahahaha!!

  7. TheOtherOne says:

I love her. She has become my Patron Saint of Petty. 🙇🏾‍♀️

  8. Dorothy#1 says:

Why would they rent a house on the same street as Obama?

  9. S says:

Other kids are barred when Milord and Lady’s spawn want to play at the PUBLIC park? What the actual f^@k?! This is what our tax dollars go to?

I don’t think Ms Bruce’s complaints are all that petty. I know if I couldn’t walk on the sidewalk in my neighborhood, especially if it was as high end as this one, and had to stare at a porta-potty all day from my multi-million dollar house, I would be p!ssed, to say the least.

This family-who-belives-they-are-king doesn’t give two shakes about anyone besides themselves on the entire freaking planet — or, in fact, the planet itself. Ivanka may have better decorating taste, but she’s just as self-centered, egotistical and insufferable as her Pa.

Gah! A pox on all their (rented) houses.

    • Lightpurple says:

Oh, Princess Nagini, maybe you should let the Secret Service people use an actual bathroom? And how much of this commotion is due to the additional security people you and daddy-lover hired? Don’t expect an invite to the annual block party.

      • jwoolman says:

Why can’t Secret Service use one in Ivanka and Jared’s house? Don’t they have a key?

    • Giddy says:

Does this mean that Moms and kids already in the park have to leave?if so I would be furious.

      • homeslice says:

I wouldn’t leave. Maybe they would arrest me and my kids…

      • Lady D says:

I wouldn’t leave. Do SS really have the right to order citizens around? I’d make them call the cops, and then I’d call the local paper and news station. I’d start petitions, and I would organize a neighbourhood watch, where everyone could circle the park with their children and just watch them and wait quietly for them to leave. I cannot believe the sh*t the Trumps are getting away with.

      • Juls says:

@Lady D: You’re much calmer and poised than I would be. I would refuse to leave. If they put their hands on me, the pepper spray would come out.

    • Megan says:

Maybe if Trump hadn’t bragged about how he was going to kill terrorists and their families his wouldn’t be such a target.

  10. Beth says:

Awesome. I hope I’d handle the situation in a cool petty way.

  11. PunkyMomma says:

Isn’t there a perfectly good playset on the lawn of the White House that the Obamas had installed? Since Jared and Complicit are in the West Wing now, why not let their children play there instead of closing down a neighborhood park.

The neighbor’s not so subtle shade against the Kushners is priceless.

    • S says:

The Obamas donated it because the new admin said it was unwanted/un-needed, as Baron was too old.

But, overall, that’s exactly my point. There are ways to both assure safety AND not inconvenience citizens. Take your lives somewhere private, where you’re not having to constantly shut down streets, etc. That’s how politicians and others who need extra security, but also respect other human beings, do it. Obviously, the Trumps are all about the look-at-me, we’re-so-important-and-special show. That they’re doing it with MY, and all Americans, tax dollars makes it not just rude and thoughtless, but absolutely appalling.

Melania in New York, the Kushers in DC, the Trump Bros ostentatious worldwide trips. You know, they can decline Secret Service protection; There is precedent for adult children doing so. That they don’t, even while on business trips, speaks VOLUMES about this disgusting family of grifters.

  12. Onerous says:

This lady is my current Facebook profile pic. Sheer glee!

  13. Giddy says:

I bet she has a pillow like Alice Roosevelt Longworth’s that said “If you have nothing good to say about anyone come sit by me”. Wouldn’t it be fun to have a glass of wine with her?

  14. RedOnTheHead says:

I don’t care that she’s shading a Trump. I can’t stand them either. But she’s NOT doing anything great IMO because she’s wearing a damn fur coat! If you wear fur, you don’t get a pass.

    • homeslice says:

I detest fur too…BUT, maybe it’s like a family heirloom? I do know some people who inherited fur when I guess it wasn’t so nasty to wear fur. I don’t know but I’m hoping it’s something like that. New fur coats…totally disgusting!

      • S says:

like new leather and new hamburgers?

      • S says:

BTW, apparently two users with same name? I also commented on this story farther above (April 6, 2017 at 9:53 am & April 6, 2017 at 10:08 am) but am NOT the “s says” directly above at 11:20 AM. Confusing, I know, but wholly unintentionally so.

    • Cynthia says:

Can we concentrate on the big picture.

    • ann says:

I would never buy fur now, but I have a lovely coat from my great grandmother when it was fashionable and not frowned upon then. I’m certainly not going to throw or paint something that was handed to me through generations, but no to fur at this day and age.

      • Sarah says:

Yes, if you must have fur for the cold, a good way to buy one is at auction or in a vintage shop. It was killed a long time ago.

  15. Cynthia says:

I would be so mad, I can imagine how disruptive it will be for neighbors, and still no apologies.

  16. Luca76 says:

And she was in the Womens March I totally love this woman.

    • Giddy says:

One more reason to adore her. That, and her other home is in London. Belgravia to be exact. So in my fantasy life where we have wine together and bitch about our temporary neighbors the Kushners, I just know she would want me to visit her in London. There we would switch to gin in honor of TQ.

  17. HK9 says:

How I LOVE this woman. 🙂

  18. TheOtherSam says:

Make no mistake, this kind of stuff -matters- down in DC. If Ivanka & Jared are looking with an eye to the political long haul, and are indeed consolidating their power in the WH right now as a means to insure their own political viability later on, they also need to curb their wild excesses like this crap they pull in Kalorama.

That neighborhood is filled with govt and political types of all stripe, their memories are long and they take petty non-work sh*t like this (closing down the local park – ?!) *very* seriously. This is more damaging to them and their brand in DC circles then some of the hare-brained schemes (‘Jared as Middle East Savior’) being hatched in the West Wing.

  19. Rapunzel says:

Secret Service is forced to use a port-a-potty? Wtf? I bet we’re paying for the potty rental too! So angering!

  20. KJ says:

I have been giggling over this photo of Mrs. Bruce all week long. It’s so fabulous!

Also, I’m not surprised at all to hear that President Obama (the only POTUS I recognize) is a lovely, polite, and non intrusive neighbor.

    • Original T.C. says:

Exactly. Even conservative neighbors applaud the Obamas low key presence and can’t stand the ostentatious Ivanka and Jared.

  21. lower-case deb says:

porta potties. because guarding the Trump-Kushners is like a rave, every day.

  22. smcollins says:

    Ah-mazing. Love it.

  23. Lyla says:

They close down the park? Didn’t princess nagini just say in her interview how nice it was to have a play set in the backyard because they couldn’t have one in nyc?

  24. SmokeyEye says:

This is more pop culture than substantive political stuff. The Democrats are getting distracted with petty cultural stuff when they should be putting their energies into winning back the working class while retaining their hold over the professionals. It would be so easy to win against the right wing on this. It’s all about economic inequality and much less civic rights and cultural issues. Blame it on the Clintons and Obama. Bill Clinton more than anyone led the charge to abandon the working class and it’s backfired. And shame on this woman for wearing fur and the media for not calling her out on it.

    • kacy says:

Civic rights are still very much important!

      • SmokeyEye says:

Yet inexorably linked to income inequality! People living in poverty because their local industrial communities were devastated due to neoliberal economic ideology want to blame someone and they’re in such pain that telling them to respect, for example, equal pay for women can seem like a joke.

  25. kacy says:

I’m very disappointed that my DC peeps had this protest and didn’t tell me!!!

  26. Deeana says:

No, no, don’t ever mace a Secret Service officer! They ARE police officers. Specialty police officers, but police officers. They have fairly broad powers, so very likely are allowed to “clear an area” – such as a public park. Think about it, they shut down roads and highways and tell people where they can sit, stand, congregate, etc.

A port-a-potty in public view on the street or sidewalk is awful and is an insult to these public servants. They have a job to do and should be respected. Surely, surely another solution can be found.

    • RuddyZooKeeper says:

I was thinking the same thing when I read some of the “stand up to the Secret Service” comments. You can sure try, but you won’t be given a second chance to say no. They don’t ask twice. They actually don’t even ask. Their action is swift and sometimes final.

  27. teacakes says:

This is priceless, no matter how much some people try to derail with talk of “neoliberals”.

    • SmokeyEye says:

Not trying to derail but refocus on what can bring the Democrats back to relevance. Your quotation marks imply Bill Clinton and Obama aren’t neoliberals when it comes to economics. They in fact are neoliberals in love in the idea of technocratic solutions and minimal regulation of markets, especially financial, as the new way forward for the blues. 2008 of course again confirms the folly of this line of belief and to add insult to injury, Obama chose not to prosecute Wall Street. Bill and Barack and probably Hillary still believe expertise, globalisation, and economic degrees from ivy leagues can solve everything, but they never understood how economics was hijacked by the Chicago School / the rationalists (and their Excel spreadsheets that have little to do with reality) in the ’80s.

A great book for Democrats doing soul searching in this Orange Era is Thomas Frank’s Listen Liberal, which covers Bill Clinton’s economic rationalism (that directly laid the groundwork for the 2008 GFC (financial deregulation) and hollowing out of the US’s industrial base (NAFTA)), Obama’s legacy, and Hillary’s promise (or lack of). It’s an outstanding overview of how and why Democrats moved to the center, with lots of references to Roosevelt’s New Deal policies, and helps explain why people like Bernie and Liz Warren are likely the way forward if the blues want to thrive rather than just survive. Don’t know how realistic it is to imagine a kind of Scandinavian-style system for the US though, but politics isn’t about being realistic but aspiring for ideals.
