I’ve been avoiding all of the insular media-critiquing-the-media coverage on Emperor Bigly’s Syrian bombing. Which isn’t to say I disagree with those critics who say that professional pundits and journalists need to stop praising Bigly for throwing some Tomahawks at an airfield (after giving Putin the heads up). Bigly should not be praised and pundits need to stop trying to make “Bigly is so presidential because he bombs things” happen. Still, questions linger about just how and why Bigly decided to act so suddenly – in the middle of a highly sensitive visit from the Chinese delegation, no less – and with such emotion. Well, guess who convinced him? Precious Ivanka. Of course.
Donald Trump’s daughter persuaded him to strike targets in Syria, according to reports of a diplomatic memo. A cable briefing to Theresa May and Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson by Britain’s ambassador to Washington Sir Kim Darroch said Ms Trump was influential in bringing about the bombings, those who saw the memo said.
It claimed Mr Trump was “genuinely shaken” by pictures of more than 80 who died in a Sarin nerve gas attack that were broadcast on cable television, according to The Sunday Times. Sources who read the message said the first daughter’s position on the atrocity was a “significant influence in the Oval Office”. Ministers were told it meant the administration’s reaction was “stronger than expected”.
Sir Kim reportedly pointed to a tweet sent by Ms Trump in which she announced she was “heartbroken and outraged by the images coming out of Syria following the atrocious chemical attack”.
Marking a striking U-turn from the anti-interventionist stance Mr Trump took during his campaign, on Friday he ordered the firing of 59 cruise missiles at a military target in the war-torn country. Reports said the barrage of Tomahawk missiles, fired from two US Navy vessels located in the Mediterranean Sea, targeted Al Shayrat air base in the central city of Homs, from which Syrian aircraft staged Tuesday’s chemical weapons attack.
After the missile strike, Ms Trump wrote on Twitter: “The times we are living in call for difficult decisions. Proud of my father for refusing to accept these horrendous crimes against humanity.”
So, now we know. This actually explains a lot. Bigly does whatever his Precious Ivanka tells him to do, and now that Precious Ivanka knows that she can literally convince her father to bomb countries, how will she proceed in the future? And beyond that… hey, we knew this would happen. We knew it would happen as soon as she got that gaudy title, security clearance and a West Wing office. Next up: Precious Ivanka will get her daddy to threaten to bomb Canada unless Justin Trudeau comes down to Washington just to kiss her.
Also: while Bigly was bombing Syria, Precious Ivanka’s children were “performing” for the Chinese president. This sh-t is like Versailles.

Sorry, it is the VOTERS that “OWN” their choice. They were given thousands of examples of why Trump would be a horrible president, and they still voted for him (or sat out, voted 3rd party) anyway. And people were willing to vote for- and continue their unapologetic support afterward- of Trump, either DESPITE his history of sexual assaulting and harassing women and bragging about it, his misogyny and the combined homophobia and sexism of Pence and the threats to reproductive rights, the racism, the Nazi-endorsement, the xenophobia, and his childlike impulsivity and lack of good judgment, or BECAUSE of one or more of those things. For some people, those were things they were either willing to overlook, things they were ignorant about (I suppose if someone has extremely limited access to cable TV, internet, or the newspaper, they could claim total ignorance about certain negative details about Trump, but let’s not act like that applies to most of his supporters), OR, one or more of those things actually appealed to them.
Unfortunately Hillary had no message. People want jobs. She never talked about that – at least that I am aware of? What was her message about jobs? Middle class want better health care? Did she talk about that. Obamacare is falling apart some people (who are not wealthy) are paying from $800 – 1,500 a month. They can barely live after their Obamacare payments. What was her message on health care? What was her message on crime? What was her message on tax reform? She didn’t have any message – that will never win an election. Campaigning on the fact that you are better than your opponent just does not bring votes. You have to talk about the stuff that is effecting the lives of people and she didn’t. Yes LGBT rights are important – but how many are there in the US – less then 5%. How many people are out of jobs and in poverty. Way more then 5%. And someone who can barley put food on their table like the coal miners don’t really care about bathrooms for less then 2% of population. And yes if people are desperate for jobs falling into poverty they will vote for someone who talks about this even if they are a “white nationalist”. To have food on your table people will do overlook alot. I just think that people on this board don’t get it. The US is increasing in poverty daily because there are no jobs. Hillary rarely spoke about that. That cost her the election. And yes it was her fault not the voters.
Hillary talked about all those things. She talked about them in the debates. Her policies were available on her website.

She admitted the press could have done better and mentioned that they didn’t report on the listening tour Hillary did on the opiate crisis. I consider myself fairly politically aware and I had no idea she had done a listening tour on this topic. The only candidate I remember talking about this problem was…you got it -Trump! SMH
People are going to flame me for this but in some ways I feel like we got the POTUS we deserve. There have been a thousand think pieces (by both the alt right and alt left interestingly) telling us that we should pity the economic anxiety of Trump voters but IMO the larger problem is that alot of Americans are just lazy and entitled. We want information spoon fed to us. We don’t want to do the work of finding out a candidates policies or fact checking the crap that shows up on our Facebook feed. We need to be INSPIRED to show up at the polls to vote against a misogynistic, Islamaphobic racist idiot. We want to fancy ourselves as being part of a MOVEMENT! I believe all the “fake news” was coordinated at first, then took on a life of its own and spread once people saw the moneymaking opportunities. I believe Putin wanted chaos sewn and knew that many Americans were low information voters. I believe Putin thought he could use trump as a well controlled puppet. One problem is that trump has no real guiding philosophy apart from money and ego stroking and like in a horror movie the puppet came to life and started acting crazy. Putin must be trying to figure out how to gain control again. He may have to weaponize the pee tape.

I’ve been thinking along the same lines. There’s been so much lying, deflection and distracting that at some point I think it really is a coordinated effort to keep us all off balance and confused. That way they can continue to do behind the scenes shit to destroy us all and steal as much as they can. I saw an article that said Trump’s travel visits (at taxpayer expense) conveniently allow him to visit and check on his various properties. Obama would have been crucified, hung in effigy if he traveled the way Trump does.
This is the story of an abusive personality writ large and superimposed on the Executive Branch of the US government. Chaotic, unpredictable, unstable, cruel and controlling. It’s ridiculous for the media (or anyone else) to try to impose meaning and order on this situation.

Anyone who has seen the puffed-up costs from organizing a business meeting at well-known convention centers-hotels, realizes what a money maker this likely is. The basics are three to four times what you’d expect to pay outside the property.

This “attack” (after warning russia who warned Assad) was to turn our eyes away from he fact he is a man under criminal FBI investigation for Treason.

Trump certainly wasn’t shaken about the 2013 chemical attack that killed even more people. We have his tweets saying that if Obama retailiated it would just be to bring up his poll numbers (seems prophetic now). He said directly that Obama shouldn’t attack in response to avoid getting involved in the Syrian quagmire, and the Republicans in Congress refused to approve Obama’s planned retaliation. Which turned out to be a good thing, in my opinion, because then Obalama went and pursued diplomatic means to deal with it. A chemical weapons ban was signed and large stocks of chemical weapons were destroyed. There have been unconfirmed rumors that Assad has used chlorine occasionally since then, but this is the largest confirmed attack in several years. The Russians were supposed to monitor compliance, but I don’t know the details (and there always need to be several actors in such monitoring so nobody has to trust anybody else).
Since the Russians have people on the ground and chemical weapons have a tendency to backfire during use or storage or transport, it would be in their best interest to seriously monitor compliance but who knows with Putin in charge. He may not care and could be selling the stuff for all we known (although synthesis isn’t that hard). But it’s a treaty and many other countries have an interest in compliance. A unilateral action by one country like this, before the investigation is even done to verify violation by one of the signatories, is simply out of line and counterproductive. It comes off as an unthinking temper tantrum rather than as a well-reasoned response to actually solve the problem.
The important thing is to enforce the chemical weapons ban, not to make chest-thumping moves like this for domestic consumption. I doubt that Trump even understands the ban. He probably is pretty hazy about why chemical weapons are specifically banned or how conventional weapons can be quite horrendous in themselves so it’s only one little attempt to humanize a dreadful war. But it’s something other countries can legitimately demand without getting involved in the civil war itself.
People calling for more US intervention just have short memories. Hundreds of thousands of civilians (including babies and children) died in Iraq due to US actions. Once those bombers first take off, they keep on bombing and people die and homes are destroyed. The infrastructure civilians need, including clean water supplies, are deliberately targeted as a matter of policy. I remember in Gulf War One, the US astonishingly stepped up the bombing raids on Iraqi cities just as Russia was starting to succeed in talking Iraq into peacefully withdrawing from Kuwait. Then the US pilots engaged in what they called a “turkey shoot”, attacking Iraqi soldiers who were leaving Kuwait to go home. It makes no sense to trust any US Presidents in such matters but rather people should do everything possible to keep them from tasting blood, because they just lose their minds in such cases. Obama was not immune, either, although he was not prone to insta-war like Trump but did wait and consult.

It didn’t work in Iraq, Libya, Kosovo, etc. I’m the furthest thing from a conspiracy theorist but I don’t trust anything about this administration. The optics are just that, but it’s the motivation that I question.
I’ve heard the same unconfirmed range. I hope the people investigating can come up with the real figures and tell us who they were and where and how they died. That will be important to know.
A large percentage of Americans have always been delighted by war as long as their own loved ones are not injured by it. The media love the booms and flashing lights also. They need to be reminded that it’s not an action movie or a video game, and when people die they stay dead and foreign victims of our weapons have families that love and mourn them also. In that tweet, I think he (unwittingly, of course) gave even more away re: both his real motivation and cluelessness. He said runways are easy to rebuild, so that’s why you don’t bomb them. False. Tomahawks don’t really destroy runways. Other (conventional) bombs – which we have and could have used – do. Several military experts have said, we hit what we wanted to hit, didn’t hit what we didn’t want to hit. If we’d wanted to put the runways out of business, we certainly could have, but not with Tomahawks. So, combo platter of dt is too dumb to know, yes, of course we can take out runways and/or admission that they didn’t WANT to take out the runways. Just makes it look even more like a pr stunt, intended to change narrative – and not piss off Assad/Putin.

I’m not buying it. Ivanka has been assisting her father with decisions in the WH since day 1 and not once has he done anything right or what the press calls “presidential”. Where was Ivanka when her father was tweeting that Susan Rice committed a crime and Obama wiretapped him, giving interviews about how Devin Nunes vindicated him, and was offering support to Bill O’Reilly? There was a change in the administration, but that might be to due to HR McMaster taking control, not Ivanka. You have to wonder why all of a sudden Ivanka is trying to take credit. Is this like the time that Ivanka took credit for her father not issuing EO against LBGTQ and then 2 weeks later, Trump demolished the bathroom bills and discrimination laws protecting LBGTQ? Is Ivanka trying to take credit because more journalists are becoming vocal about how they suspect that it was Russia, not Assad, who orchestrated the gas attack? Where was Ivanka’s concern for humanity when her father was blocking refugees and Muslims from entering the US and arresting Mexican men and women as they were taking their kids to school?
It’s much more likely that the order to bomb the airfield with as little damage as possible, came from Putin, not Ivanka. It was obvious that something was up when Kristen Welker and Haillye Jackson were pushing the storyline that Trump was a new and changed man after he saw those photos of the kids. It was emotion that changed Trump. Like he tweeted, it was his ratings dropping to 35% and all talk about Trump’s bad behavior since he has been in office. Trump and Putin orchestrated the entire thing and they used the bombing to change to the focus of the press.
It is very sickening that the press was praising Trump was “presidential”. The press has failed us Bigly!

I haven’t watched the news in the last few days because refuse to watch MSM fawning over comrade cry baby for distraction bombing and dead stopped talking about his Russian collusion. They have a short memory and are egging Donnie on to a much bigger war.
I doubt that Precious Ivanka knows much more about the complexities of the Syrian situation than President Tweeter. So she, like her father, is also practicing foreign policy without a license. Okay, he has the license but he never passed the written or practical driving test and can’t see two inches in front of his face without the glasses he doesn’t seem to have .
Do either of them even know how chemical weapons bans are usually handled among grown ups? How they are monitored and who does the monitoring and how violations are dealt with? Did they even know there was a ban agreement in the first place? Or that there are other countries in the world to consult and act with? Or that there is this thing we call Congress that is supposed to approve acts of war? Or that logging 59 missiles at somebody’s airbase just might be in the category “acts of war”? I have no objection to destroying weapons of war (too bad somebody doesn’t do that to our WMDs), but people did die from either a hit or from the effects of the blasts, and they had families too. So did the hundreds killed previously in direct US attacks in Syria.
If the two of them watched more than Fox News, they could have seen plenty of terrible pictures of dead and injured people of all ages who were hit by non-chemical weapons. This is why you don’t just use any weapons on a whim. At least consult further than your own house with people who can tell you how complicated it is and warn you if your plans might actually make things worse even though you yourself will feel better, and suggest other ways to have a stronger effect.

So far, there is no concrete proof that it was Assad. It might surprise the Trumps, but ISIS is operating in Syria and this could have been their doing. Assad is fighting against ISIS and they should not be so stupid as to act so quickly. I do not believe that the detailed info is available since the attack on those people only happened less than a week ago. Since Trump is always in Florida, put bluntly, he’s clearly not at all been informed about the particulars of the attack.

We have no concrete evidence that it was Assad that did this. ISIS is embedded in Syria and it could have been them, not the Syrian government. Trump has done this without getting all the facts known (first to Congress and himself and then to the American people) and he’s used up to fifty major missiles. The Chinese and North Koreans are being jointly threatened by Trump while the Russians and Iranians are furious at how Trump’s move has likely derailed their own effective strategic campaign against ISIS.
This idiot is going to get us into a war against Russia, China, and Iran; he’s upset the military strategy that Russia has been using against ISIS (in conjunction with Assad) and the Chinese might be furious that Trump is agitating North Korea (run by a ruthless dictator in itself) and as for Iran, they’re ISIS free and want to keep it that way. The last thing China needs or wants right now is an agitated North Korea and in a way, China might feel duty bound to defend North Korea against US aggression, which might lead to a confrontation with China.
As it is, China believes that they have rightful suzerain authority over Taiwan and ownership of the Taiwan strait and frankly relations are tense enough because of the issue of Taiwanese independence (not currently recognized by many nations around the world) and Trump brainlessly issued an ultimatum to the Chinese government (stupidly if I may add leaving no room for backing out while preserving ‘face,’ which is another topic entirely) leaving China in an unenviable position and Trump has inadvertently positioned the US in direct confrontation with the Chinese with no possibility of backing out.
So if Princess Nagini actually did in fact encourage her father to do this, the bimbette has in fact put the rest of the world in a position where for the sake of their own regional stability and safety of their people, they will be compelled to unite against the US. These are three countries that with the right handling could in fact become priceless allies of the US, but apparently Princess Nagini prefers in fact to egg on her already volatile father/President.
As for North Korea, China considers herself to be a senior ‘older sister’ to North Korea and China may in fact feel honor-bound to protect what they likely view as one of their tributary states. IN exchange for protection from the wider world and a guarantee of protection (military/economic, whatever is needed), North Korea will always listen and value China’s perspective and often defer to China’s stated goals and decisions.
Put bluntly, if China has to end up protecting a lunatic dictator with nukes and North Korea becomes determined to ignore China and just step things up to a hot war, China will get dragged into it and here in the States we’ll all go up in radiated flames. As will the Middle East and Asia. There is no way that we can get out of this except for some kind of maneuvering that would test Machiavelli.
