Ivanka Trump convinced her dad to bomb Syria, British memo claims

President Donald J. Trump Air Force One Arrival

I’ve been avoiding all of the insular media-critiquing-the-media coverage on Emperor Bigly’s Syrian bombing. Which isn’t to say I disagree with those critics who say that professional pundits and journalists need to stop praising Bigly for throwing some Tomahawks at an airfield (after giving Putin the heads up). Bigly should not be praised and pundits need to stop trying to make “Bigly is so presidential because he bombs things” happen. Still, questions linger about just how and why Bigly decided to act so suddenly – in the middle of a highly sensitive visit from the Chinese delegation, no less – and with such emotion. Well, guess who convinced him? Precious Ivanka. Of course.

Donald Trump’s daughter persuaded him to strike targets in Syria, according to reports of a diplomatic memo. A cable briefing to Theresa May and Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson by Britain’s ambassador to Washington Sir Kim Darroch said Ms Trump was influential in bringing about the bombings, those who saw the memo said.

It claimed Mr Trump was “genuinely shaken” by pictures of more than 80 who died in a Sarin nerve gas attack that were broadcast on cable television, according to The Sunday Times. Sources who read the message said the first daughter’s position on the atrocity was a “significant influence in the Oval Office”. Ministers were told it meant the administration’s reaction was “stronger than expected”.

Sir Kim reportedly pointed to a tweet sent by Ms Trump in which she announced she was “heartbroken and outraged by the images coming out of Syria following the atrocious chemical attack”.

Marking a striking U-turn from the anti-interventionist stance Mr Trump took during his campaign, on Friday he ordered the firing of 59 cruise missiles at a military target in the war-torn country. Reports said the barrage of Tomahawk missiles, fired from two US Navy vessels located in the Mediterranean Sea, targeted Al Shayrat air base in the central city of Homs, from which Syrian aircraft staged Tuesday’s chemical weapons attack.

After the missile strike, Ms Trump wrote on Twitter: “The times we are living in call for difficult decisions. Proud of my father for refusing to accept these horrendous crimes against humanity.”

[From The Independent]

So, now we know. This actually explains a lot. Bigly does whatever his Precious Ivanka tells him to do, and now that Precious Ivanka knows that she can literally convince her father to bomb countries, how will she proceed in the future? And beyond that… hey, we knew this would happen. We knew it would happen as soon as she got that gaudy title, security clearance and a West Wing office. Next up: Precious Ivanka will get her daddy to threaten to bomb Canada unless Justin Trudeau comes down to Washington just to kiss her.

Also: while Bigly was bombing Syria, Precious Ivanka’s children were “performing” for the Chinese president. This sh-t is like Versailles.

So it was never President Steve Bannon or President Donald Trump, it’s Madam President Ivanka Trump. Jared and Ivanka will find a way to kick Bannon out.

    • Megan says:

Well this is a terrifying turn of events.

    • INeedANap says:

When we said we wanted a woman president this isn’t what we meant.

That’ll teach us to be more specific.

      • NotSoSocialButterfy says:

I want to laugh at this, but I just can’t bring myself to do so.

      • bunny ears says:

I think I just burst into tears a little internally.

To think, we have 3.75 more years of this.

      • Canadian Becks says:

I appreciate your wit. It made me laugh.

It’s maddeningly frustrating that we can’t stop them.

      • WeAreAllMadeofStars says:

You beat me to it. Hats off to you, friend.

      • Otaku Fairy says:

Right? L.O.L. And hopefully this won’t even last another 3 years because Trump will have a glorious breakdown… or resign….or get himself impeached.

      • Kelly says:

All I can think about with that comment is Amy Poehler’s Hilary in the first SNL skit with Tina Fey as Sarah Palin: “I didn’t want any woman to be president, I wanted to be president!”

    • EM says:

No it’s President whoever speaks to him last & most convincingly. Ivanka has a lot of pull but so does Jared, as did Bannon as do other people. It’s not that Trump lacks ideology (except money) it’s that he can flip opinions on the drop of a dime and now has the authority to act on these new opinions.

TY again to all those that voted 3rd party or sat out the election !

      • Ruyana says:

Enough! Hillary got almost 3 million more votes than Cheetolini and she STILL lost. If she had gotten 5 million votes she would have still lost because she did not pay any attention to the states that would have helped her.

Sick and tired of people blaming others for the loss that Hillary OWNS.

      • bleu_moon says:

@Ruyana- Gotta say I’m with EM on this one. Third party voters were so eager to cast a protest vote, they turned their backs on the fate POC , immigrants, women and the LGBT community if the Desiccated Tangerine won. Easy to do if you’re middle/upper class and white like most third party supporters. By a quirk of the Electoral College, the Orange Monstrosity won due to 80,000 votes in 3 counties. If you voted third party or didn’t vote, you own this.

      • Shambles says:

        Ruyana,

It’s coming out that Hillary’s campaign had a literal army of Russian cyber-warriors working against it, and you’re still spouting that sh!t? Please.

      • bleu_moon says:

Had to add, I’m really tired of hearing that Hillary didn’t campaign hard enough in certain states so those voters didn’t know they shouldn’t cast their ballots for a white nationalist.

      • Tiffany :) says:

Sorry, it is the VOTERS that “OWN” their choice. They were given thousands of examples of why Trump would be a horrible president, and they still voted for him (or sat out, voted 3rd party) anyway. I am sick and tired of my fellow citizens acting like they need to be coddled in order to vote for the candidate that is most qualified. Elections are serious things. I wish citizens took their responsibilities seriously. They aren’t being sold timeshares. They are voting for f’ing PRESIDENT.

      • Baby Jane says:

My 3rd party vote was not a protest- it was FOR the person I actually preferred. The only people to blame for a Trump presidency are his voters. Not Hillary, not her voters, not 3rd parties, not their voters. I know no one on this site likes a simple answer but that’s it- I am not to blame for the decision of others. I will do my best to support those unfairly subjugated and marginalized by this president or any other. But I will never use my vote for anything other than to identify the candidate I CHOOSE.

      • Keaton says:

“Had to add, I’m really tired of hearing that Hillary didn’t campaign hard enough in certain states so those voters didn’t know they shouldn’t cast their ballots for a white nationalist.”
        Thank you @bleu_moon!

I will forever side eye anyone that wasn’t motivated to stop the racist, Islamaphobic misogynistic, utterly INCOMPETENT, pathological liar Drumph from becoming POTUS.
I will always remember the people who claimed HRC was as bad as Donald Trump. They are on my sh*t list forever. I know I’m not alone in this anger and bitterness. I wonder what it’s going to take to bring this country closer together again? We’ve been polarized for quite a while but Trump and his traitorous enablers in the GOP have made the situation significantly worse. I was angry & annoyed when Bush was re-elected in 2004 but nothing like this. NOTHING like the election of his POS.

      • noway says:

Reality is there are multitude of reasons why Hillary loss the electoral college you really can’t pin it to one thing. Sure the third party voters are one reason, but so is the media who gave Trump so much free coverage, the media and people who made it seem that Trump would never win and helped create the apathetic non voter, the sexist of all kinds who couldn’t get past the fact that women should be seen the same as men (really honestly why did people just give him a total pass on the crazy and she was supposed to know everything and be everything), the crazy conservatives whose only issue that matters is abortion, the uneducated who apparently didn’t really know what Obamacare was or the fact that they liked it, Donald Trump for lying so effectively to the American people, and Hillary Clinton for not campaigning enough in PA, Wisc. and Michigan. Feel free to add, and unfortunately we are all in this sinking boat together, but don’t worry Ivanka will save us! (Don’t you all feel better now)

      • Otaku Fairy says:

@Ruyana: Hillary lost and Trump won mainly because there were enough people willing to vote for someone like Trump. And people were willing to vote for- and continue their unapologetic support afterward- of Trump, either DESPITE his history of sexual assaulting and harassing women and bragging about it, his misogyny and the combined homophobia and sexism of Pence and the threats to reproductive rights, the racism, the Nazi-endorsement, the xenophobia, and his childlike impulsivity and lack of good judgment, or BECAUSE of one or more of those things. For some people, those were things they were either willing to overlook, things they were ignorant about (I suppose if someone has extremely limited access to cable TV, internet, or the newspaper, they could claim total ignorance about certain negative details about Trump, but let’s not act like that applies to most of his supporters), OR, one or more of those things actually appealed to them.

    • Cheryl says:

Unfortunately Hillary had no message. People want jobs. She never talked about that – at least that I am aware of? What was her message about jobs? Middle class want better health care? Did she talk about that. Obamacare is falling apart some people (who are not wealthy) are paying from $800 – 1,500 a month. They can barely live after their Obamacare payments. What was her message on health care? What was her message on crime? What was her message on tax reform? She didn’t have any message – that will never win an election. Campaigning on the fact that you are better than your opponent just does not bring votes. You have to talk about the stuff that is effecting the lives of people and she didn’t. Yes LGBT rights are important – but how many are there in the US – less then 5%. How many people are out of jobs and in poverty. Way more then 5%. And someone who can barley put food on their table like the coal miners don’t really care about bathrooms for less then 2% of population. And yes if people are desperate for jobs falling into poverty they will vote for someone who talks about this even if they are a “white nationalist”. To have food on your table people will do overlook alot. I just think that people on this board don’t get it. The US is increasing in poverty daily because there are no jobs. Hillary rarely spoke about that. That cost her the election. And yes it was her fault not the voters.

      • Lightpurple says:

Hillary talked about all those things. She talked about them in the debates. Her policies were available on her website.

And Trumpcare is not going to give anyone better healthcare

      • Sandy Eggo says:

Hillary actually had very detailed policies about jobs and healthcare and foreign policy, etc. She did have a message; it’s just that the press didn’t cover it and no one wanted to listen to her because OMG emails!

      • Keaton says:

Thank you @Lightpurple and @Sandy_Eggo. Several months ago I saw Andrea MItchell talk about the coverage of HRC. She admitted the press could have done better and mentioned that they didn’t report on the listening tour Hillary did on the opiate crisis. I consider myself fairly politically aware and I had no idea she had done a listening tour on this topic. The only candidate I remember talking about this problem was…you got it -Trump! SMH

People are going to flame me for this but in some ways I feel like we got the POTUS we deserve. There have been a thousand think pieces (by both the alt right and alt left interestingly) telling us that we should pity the economic anxiety of Trump voters but IMO the larger problem is that alot of Americans are just lazy and entitled. We want information spoon fed to us. We don’t want to do the work of finding out a candidates policies or fact checking the crap that shows up on our Facebook feed. We need to be INSPIRED to show up at the polls to vote against a misogynistic, Islamaphobic racist idiot. We want to fancy ourselves as being part of a MOVEMENT! All that policy stuff is yuck and boring and NOT cool.
I think one of the smartest things the DNC could do going forward is push flash over substance with their candidates. Worry more about marketing and less over nuanced thoughtful policy. Depressing but true.

      • Bootsie says:

Actually, she talked about those things – all the time. You are the very definition of an uninformed voter and you are blaming her for that.

      • Kitten says:

Seriously, how hard is it to just click on the woman’s campaign website?

@Keaton-“but IMO the larger problem is that alot of Americans are just lazy and entitled”

ITA with this and your other points.

      • SusanneToo says:

@LightPurple, Sandy, Keaton, Bootsie and Kitten. Thank you, thank for your statements. And I am sick of the sanctimonious third partiers who drop in here with their “I voted my conscience,” and “Hillary blah, blah, blah,” when anyone with even a frontal lobotomy could see what a murderously incompetent diaster trump would be. I wish I could personally say FU to every one of them.

      • AnotherDirtyMartini says:

@Cheryl…did you not watch the debates?! She addressed everything you’re saying she didn’t address, and she did it more intelligently & cohesively than Trump ever could.

      • Esmom says:

Cheryl, I know I’m piling on but I can’t believe what you wrote. If you didn’t hear Hillary’s detailed, thoughtful plans for everything you mentioned then you simply were not listening.

      • Anitas says:

Josh Lyman: When voters want a national daddy: someone to be tough and strong and defend the country, they vote Republican… When they want a mommy: someone to give them jobs, health care – the policy equivalent of motzah ball soup, they vote Democratic.

      • Otaku Fairy says:

Again with the innocent, destitute Trump voter card. What’s your excuse for the Trump supporter of average income who apparently has enough money to rent a 700-dollar-or-more apartment or own a home, not be dependent on public transportation or walking to get places, and pay for wifi in their apartments or houses so they can rant on facebook, yahoo, or MSN every freaking day about how sick they are of their tax dollars going to help people who have even less than them and how great and persecuted the Trumps are? (not even going to get into some of the more unsavory ‘beliefs’ they spew on the regular. You can check it out on your own any day of the week. I challenge you to do that while still keeping your blood pressure nice and healthy). Better yet, what’s your excuse for the above-average and high-income Trump supporters? Because the majority of them were not destitute. How do you explain all the poor people who voted for Hillary instead of Trump? I caught the dismissiveness of the LBGT community, but notice that you didn’t mention women and people of color, who combined definitely make up more than 2% or 5% of the population.

  2. Esmom says:

Trump was “genuinely shaken?” Yeah, right. And Ivanka talked him into this? Every day gets weirder and more worrisome.

Speaking of which, I just read an interesting article in Vanity Fair about how the chaos in and conflicting info coming from the White House could be strategic. Apparently that’s Putin’s MO and Trump’s erratic, untruthful approach is very similar. Not sure what I think about that.

    • SusanneToo says:

Don’t we all remember how shaken he was in 2013 when many, many more Syrians died in a gas attack, so shaken he urged President Obama to take decisive action? Yeah, I don’t remember either.

I read that article in VF last night. They’ve been doing great reporting on this monstrosity of an administration.

      • Esmom says:

Yes VF has been great, I’m so happy I resubscribed after more than 15 years. So what did/do you think? I find it really hard to imagine Trump’s bluster and Twitter rants and his team’s infighting to be carefully orchestrated. I think that gives them, and especially him, too much credit. But then again I couldn’t imagine him ever being elected…

      • SusanneToo says:

I believe all the “fake news” was coordinated at first, then took on a life of its own and spread once people saw the moneymaking opportunities. I believe Putin wanted chaos sewn and knew that many Americans were low information voters. I believe Putin thought he could use trump as a well controlled puppet. One problem is that trump has no real guiding philosophy apart from money and ego stroking and like in a horror movie the puppet came to life and started acting crazy. Putin must be trying to figure out how to gain control again. He may have to weaponize the pee tape.

      • Esmom says:

Agreed, the fake news was definitely coordinated. But like you said it’s hard to imagine the chaos within the WH right now actually being part of Putin’s plan, it all seems a bit too off the rails.

    • Original T.C. says:

      +1
Just like it was Ivanka and Jared who talked Trump into leaving policies alone that provided protection to LGBTQ citizens. Then a month into office Trump Co. decided “just kidding, we hate LGBTQ!” people. The WH PR machine loves to promote popular items as Ivanka’s idea until they drop it later.. See equal pay, child care, insurance for women and children.

A month from now, Trump Co is going to walk away from the Syrians just about when the media stops blowing him and starts asking why he won’t let those adorable Syrian babies come to America.

Last but not least, I legit wanted to vomit watching those poor Kushner kids being put on display by their Mom to kiss up to a world leader just to gain favor for future shady business dealings. Then she is going to be outraged when anyone comments on her family-Sarah Palin style. These people would sell their souls for money…well already have.

    • IlsaLund says:

I’ve been thinking along the same lines. There’s been so much lying, deflection and distracting that at some point I think it really is a coordinated effort to keep us all off balance and confused. That way they can continue to do behind the scenes shit to destroy us all and steal as much as they can. I saw an article that said Trump’s travel visits (at taxpayer expense) conveniently allow him to visit and check on his various properties. Obama would have been crucified, hung in effigy if he traveled the way Trump does.

      • Who ARE These People? says:

This is the story of an abusive personality writ large and superimposed on the Executive Branch of the US government. Chaotic, unpredictable, unstable, cruel and controlling. It’s ridiculous for the media (or anyone else) to try to impose meaning and order on this situation.

As for Princess Ivanka, what other shallow and meaningless but very costly gifts is she going to want from daddy?

      • Christin says:

Does anyone believe those properties are not charging for meeting/sleeping rooms, meals/beverage, etc.?

Anyone who has seen the puffed-up costs from organizing a business meeting at well-known convention centers-hotels, realizes what a money maker this likely is. The basics are three to four times what you’d expect to pay outside the property.

    • bleu_moon says:

I bet “genuinely shaken” means he said something like, “Well, okay let’s bomb them then, Ivanka” on his way out to play golf. He’s never been “genuinely shaken” by Syrian gas bombings before- at least not enough to stir his sympathy for Syrian refugees.

    • Snappyfish says:

Shaken by the photos of Dead ‘beautiful children’ but not concerned enough to offer the living beautiful children refugee status. These people are vile. Those who voted them into power are vile. This “attack” (after warning russia who warned Assad) was to turn our eyes away from he fact he is a man under criminal FBI investigation for Treason.

      Period.

    • jwoolman says:

Trump certainly wasn’t shaken about the 2013 chemical attack that killed even more people. We have his tweets saying that if Obama retailiated it would just be to bring up his poll numbers (seems prophetic now). He said directly that Obama shouldn’t attack in response to avoid getting involved in the Syrian quagmire, and the Republicans in Congress refused to approve Obama’s planned retaliation. Which turned out to be a good thing, in my opinion, because then Obalama went and pursued diplomatic means to deal with it. A chemical weapons ban was signed and large stocks of chemical weapons were destroyed. There have been unconfirmed rumors that Assad has used chlorine occasionally since then, but this is the largest confirmed attack in several years. The Russians were supposed to monitor compliance, but I don’t know the details (and there always need to be several actors in such monitoring so nobody has to trust anybody else).

Since the Russians have people on the ground and chemical weapons have a tendency to backfire during use or storage or transport, it would be in their best interest to seriously monitor compliance but who knows with Putin in charge. He may not care and could be selling the stuff for all we known (although synthesis isn’t that hard). But it’s a treaty and many other countries have an interest in compliance. A unilateral action by one country like this, before the investigation is even done to verify violation by one of the signatories, is simply out of line and counterproductive. It comes off as an unthinking temper tantrum rather than as a well-reasoned response to actually solve the problem.

The important thing is to enforce the chemical weapons ban, not to make chest-thumping moves like this for domestic consumption. I doubt that Trump even understands the ban. He probably is pretty hazy about why chemical weapons are specifically banned or how conventional weapons can be quite horrendous in themselves so it’s only one little attempt to humanize a dreadful war. But it’s something other countries can legitimately demand without getting involved in the civil war itself.

People calling for more US intervention just have short memories. Hundreds of thousands of civilians (including babies and children) died in Iraq due to US actions. Once those bombers first take off, they keep on bombing and people die and homes are destroyed. The infrastructure civilians need, including clean water supplies, are deliberately targeted as a matter of policy. I remember in Gulf War One, the US astonishingly stepped up the bombing raids on Iraqi cities just as Russia was starting to succeed in talking Iraq into peacefully withdrawing from Kuwait. Then the US pilots engaged in what they called a “turkey shoot”, attacking Iraqi soldiers who were leaving Kuwait to go home. It makes no sense to trust any US Presidents in such matters but rather people should do everything possible to keep them from tasting blood, because they just lose their minds in such cases. Obama was not immune, either, although he was not prone to insta-war like Trump but did wait and consult.

One movie? No, this is a gold mine for at least 5 TV shows, a movie every decade, at least 20 novels… that is, assuming anyone is left alive outside Princess Nagini and her brood in some bunker.

    • Anitas says:

Well, there’s Game of Thrones already. The Trumps are America’s Lannisters, just without any of their redeeming qualities. Down to the obsession with gold.

It’s a future series — a bigly mash-up of Dynasty, Dallas and Capitol soap operas.

In other words Ivanka and her husband are in charge. His supporters really voted for the whole Trump family.

    • Pumpkin Pie says:

Yes, they voted for the whole family. It was obvious from the beginning to those with a critical eye.
I am willing to bet the Nagini convinced Drumpf to run for office. I remember an interview with her, it was before the 2012 elections when she said Drumpf would make a great president who would make the country great again because he was a great businessman – that’s the idea, not the quote. And when the elections came he was not there. Until he was there. But I am pretty sure it was not HIS idea.

    • Christin says:

They voted in the cast of his reality show and their ‘plus-ones’.

  7. hnmmom says:

Unfreaking believable. I hope she and Jared go down with 45 and they are all lead out of the WH in handcuffs.

I sent faxes to my senators this weekend, literally begging them to see the dire straits we are in and to please step in and stop this madness. But since I’m in Texas, I am 100% sure it all falls on deaf ears.

    • KB says:

I’m in Texas too, it’s so frustrating. I still make the calls, but it’s frustrating.

They’re too busy killing wildlife in Africa. Easier to prove your manhood that way than in an actual war. Hey, a guy could get hurt in a war.

    • Megan says:

I’m sure they will all find some way to make money off of the wars their daddy starts.

      • madonami says:

I think we’re already there. I’ve read that he/the “business” hold shares in Raytheon.

    • Annetommy says:

I think they’ve inherited their daddy’s incredibly disabling “heel spur”, otherwise they’d be right there in the front line….

  10. Lightpurple says:

Congratulations, Princess Nagini the Corrupt, you killed seven people and pretty much accomplished nothing else. Well, except you and daddy have stock in Raytheon so you’ll have to buy some more tomahawks to replace the ones you shot off but that’s okay because you and daddy Voldemort profit once again.

BTW, Princess Nagini, pictures like last week’s have been coming out of Syria for a few years now. You might want to do some research for your new job as “Special Advisor.”

And I doubt very much that listening to your kid mumble in Mandarin made those people “feel at home.” And while you were exploiting your kids, Melania’s kid was nowhere to be seen. Parenting points to Melania!

    • Esmom says:

Yes, that’s what struck me, too, that they really had no idea until now about the extent of the atrocities in Syria? They’re shaken but not enough to actually want to do anything about the refugees trying so hard to flee the madness. Ignorant and opportunistic, what a gross combination.

      • Lightpurple says:

When he issued the Muslim ban and families were being torn apart at airports, she tweeted pictures of herself having her ass groped by Jared. Unless there is a way to make money for the Trumps, Ivanka has shown no interest in the world. Syrians being destroyed by their own leader has no profit for the Trumps but this latest round of atrocities took place immediately after Daddy Voldemort & Tillerson said they Assad was fine with them so it was on them. And now this botched attack is too.

      • Christin says:

Low polls numbers and a another distraction needed? Money and PR rules these folks.

      • madonami says:

The only thing they were shaken by was their poll numbers – and the constant Russian story drumbeat.

      • Tiffany :) says:

Your post sums it up well, Esmom. They are acting so ignorant on the history of what has happened in Syria and how it ties into the refugee question.

        Dangerous idiots.

    • swak says:

Couple thoughts. First, what an opportunity they are throwing away to have Barron meet people from different cultures. Second, wonder if using the story that Ivanka convinced him to bomb Syria as another way of Trump not taking responsibility for something that has gone wrong. What worries me is that he will continue to do things like this on a whim or because someone who has no knowledge of what they are saying tells him he should and that will truly start WWIII.

    • Kitten says:

Seven people..? Do you mean seven people from Assad regime?
Because I read sixteen, nine of whom were innocent civilians, four of whom were children. But this came from Syrian government so who knows how accurate.

Needless to say, Ivanka has absolutely NO f*cking business getting involved in something like this JFC what a mess…
Also, I continue to be surprised by liberal friends who support the attack.

      • MC2 says:

I heard seven intially, then fifteen & abc news now says 21. I’d be curious because….
I spent time with a huge Trump hater this weekend & she woke up with a spring in her step on Friday morning. She said “Well, Bannon is out and he’s finally listening to the right people! Things have taken a turn!”
WTF. So Trump bombs a country & we love him now?! America! But she is so desperate that hearing he listens to Ivanka or Kushner (rather then Bannon) is like a god send to her. I told her that kids died and I wasn’t convinced the gassing & reaction wasn’t planned to up his poll numbers she said I sounded like a conspiracy theorist just like the Trumpers. I am so pissed. I remember Iraq, the (lack of) chemical weapons that we were promised SH had & W’s war.
This is scary & we need to remind each other that This Is Not Normal.

      • Kitten says:

I completely agree with you, MC2. I’ve seen similar reactions from some of my liberal friends: they’re just desperate to believe anything that points to this administration being less insane that they appear to be,

It didn’t work in Iraq, Libya, Kosovo, etc. I’m the furthest thing from a conspiracy theorist but I don’t trust anything about this administration. The optics are just that, but it’s the motivation that I question.

      • jwoolman says:

I’ve heard the same unconfirmed range. I hope the people investigating can come up with the real figures and tell us who they were and where and how they died. That will be important to know.

A large percentage of Americans have always been delighted by war as long as their own loved ones are not injured by it. The media love the booms and flashing lights also. They need to be reminded that it’s not an action movie or a video game, and when people die they stay dead and foreign victims of our weapons have families that love and mourn them also. It’s not something you get used do, but I’ve run into otherwise intelligent Americans who really thought foreigners we’ve attacked don’t feel such losses as we do.

    • Original T.C. says:

There are pictures of Melania and Barron arriving together in Florida. So Barron was at the estate/country club but somehow pushed to the side.
I hate to say it but Ivanka’s children are the apple of Trump’s eyes. Just see the video above. Instead of his own son, it’s the Kushner kids that he does ‘WH family photo-ops’ with. Barron equals Tiffany 2.0–he appears to be completely ignored by Daddy dearest except when required to deflect from his sexual assault of women.

      • Megan says:

I think Melania is keeping him out of the spotlight. She is so over protective of that child I wonder if she isn’t deliberately keeping him away from the entire family. They are so creepy, I can hardly blame her if she is.

      • SusanneToo says:

@Megan. That’s my opinion, too. Keeping him out of the loop is the best thing she can do for him.

    • Tx_mom says:

I noticed that Ivanka and Co. had no problem uprooting their kids in the middle of the school year (unlike Melania). Whatever’s expedient, y’all.

      • jwoolman says:

They are much younger than Barron. This makes a big difference with school and friends. I moved around a lot as a kid and that was my experience. Before military brats chime in about how they were fine moving around frequently – moving within the military is a very different experience for kids than moving with an isolated family. There’s a support system that we didn’t get.

Why bomb an airfield with the not so successful tomahawks that didn’t damage the runways. The runways are still operational and the Syrian president gave Trump a big F U by taking off from that runway. My answer is follow the money. Guess who has stock in the company Raytheon, the company who makes the tomahawks, yep, Donald Trump. Now that they used over 50 of their missiles they have to make more. This was reported by the Bill Palmer of The Palmer Report.

    • Lightpurple says:

And then tweet about why he didn’t target the runways.

      • Rapunzel says:

The runway tweet really pissed me off. Isn’t that kinda strategy supposed to classified??

      • SusanneToo says:

Classified means nothing to Mr. Diarrhea of the Keyboard.

      • madonami says:

In that tweet, I think he (unwittingly, of course) gave even more away re: both his real motivation and cluelessness. He said runways are easy to rebuild, so that’s why you don’t bomb them. False. Tomahawks don’t really destroy runways. Other (conventional) bombs – which we have and could have used – do. Several military experts have said, we hit what we wanted to hit, didn’t hit what we didn’t want to hit. If we’d wanted to put the runways out of business, we certainly could have, but not with Tomahawks. So, combo platter of dt is too dumb to know, yes, of course we can take out runways and/or admission that they didn’t WANT to take out the runways. Just makes it look even more like a pr stunt, intended to change narrative – and not piss off Assad/Putin.

        Bombs of fury, signifying nothing.

      • jwoolman says:

It was just a token attack, not intended to do much damage. It was intended as a poll booster for Trump and a deflection from the Russian investigations.

    • Kyra says:

Weakening Assad strengthens ISIS & Al-Qaeda – because the moderate opposition has collapsed and that’s who he’s currently fighting against. I guess there’s one person in the White House smart enough to realise this and so £50 million worth of munitions was fired purely to distract from 45’s Russian ties and general corruption without actually doing any REAL damage.

Unless you count emboldening terrorists, extending the war and most likely ensuring an extra couple of thousand innocent Syria civilians die as “real damage”…

  15. alfaQ says:

It really starts to look like there’ll be another big war in a few years. Does Trump really think Putin will just watch? And don’t forget Syria’s other allies like Iran. I wouldn’t want to have Putin & co as enemies.

    • IlsaLund says:

And we there may be fighting on two fronts: the Middle East and Korea. Hope Trump supporters are ready to sacrifice their children to his monstrous appetite.

      • Who ARE These People? says:

      • swak says:

Not a Trump support and am scared to death that when my 18 year old grandson graduates this spring from high school, he’ll be drafted.

    • pinetree13 says:

I’m totally in on the conspiracy theory that Putin and Trump planned this so they could look distanced from one another. Why else warn the Russians first who leaked everything to Assad? And both leaders gained public support from it (Putin from speaking out and the Don from the bombing itself).

Also, Ivanka has no control over her father and probably little influence. Narcissists just don’t work that way. She probably just parrots what she knows he wants to hear from her.

    • Sarah says:

I hope the Trump mouth- breathing poorly educated voters send their kids, because my sons are NOT going to fight in any war started by this monstrous POS man and his daughter-wife for their benefit. They will never fight for this lying crew.

  16. grabbyhands says:

sent by Ms Trump in which she announced she was “heartbroken and outraged by the images coming out of Syria following the atrocious chemical attack”.

But not heartbroken enough to get him to stop demonizing refugees, apparently, or get him to stop trying to enforce Muslim bans.

She’s a combination of Madame DeFarge and Lady MacBeth.

    • swak says:

Want to know if she was “heartbroken and outraged” by the images of the people her father was responsible for killing on the Yemen raid. Probably not, just some collateral damage because it was her father that ordered it.

Obviously this is the first glance of reality outside the gold bubble she’s ever had. I’m floored by the hypocrisy of Congress who refused to do anything for years, turning a blind eye to atrocities and the UN and Nato for their endless talk-with-no-plan. Proof once again that trump gets all his input from Fox news and family who keep the secrets.

  22. Beth says:

Wow. Is this what happens on a “bring daughter to work day “? Jeez. I never got to go with my daddy to work.

  23. adastraperaspera says:

Not sure of course but still think that the whole thing was probably a plan with Putin to deflect from Russia ties investigation. Seems like a whole lot of attacks fired up after the House and Senate interviews of Comey and others (St. Petersburg, Stockholm, Egypt, more dead Russian officials, etc.). Many have claimed that Putin supports some elements of ISIS to pull these off. Who knows? But if Ivanka is involved, it may be that she is playing a role as info courier. It is documented that during her Aspen trip a shady Russian oligarch was also there. Also that Tr*mp believes the most sensitive biz should be done in person so there is no record. We desperately need the investigations to get moving faster, because separating rumor from fact is a matter of life and death for many.

    • Rapunzel says:

      +1000
This is all coordinated misdirection. Russia, and probably even Syria, knew about this before Congress. No way this is about humanitarianism.

    • cr says:

Doesn’t haven’t to be coordinated at all, do you think Trump and Co. really have that skill set? He’s impulsive, so they took advantage of the attack to launch the missiles for a brief distraction. It doesn’t have to be that complicated.

    • mee says:

agree with you – i think we’re being played by the puppet master. interesting about ivanka being in aspen at the same time as a russian oligarch. i’m all about conspiracy theories with this insane bunch in the WH bc really, things have gotten crazier than reality. also read a theory online that there have been plans (by britain, and not just us) to invade syria for a while (actually bolstered by a 2013 guardian article) – to gain control of oil and gas pipelines, which makes this just another phase following the iraq invasion.

    • pinetree13 says:

I fully agree. This was all planned.

If he really felt bad for the “Beautiful Syrian Babies” he would let them into the country. He doesn’t give a crap about them. This was a calculated move to distract and boost his popularity.

How can a bimbo with a clothing line have more influence on foreign policy than (presumably) everyone else in this administration? Did they all agree? My limited knowledge of how these decisions are made comes from watching too much West Wing and reading stuff online here and there. I should probably fix that. But this can’t be the process.

  25. Tan says:

Ivanka and her children should be given to the mobs of the affected regions and to be torn apart alive

Only that would teach all the dictators and future dictators and their princesses or mistresses a lesson , if you go back to middle ages, when tides turn you will be given Guillotine.
And please don’t say her children are innocent and shouldn’t be brought in.

Thousands of children suffered and continues to suffer because of them.

Geez, I just want them all out of the White House. Let’s not be Trumps. Must be contagious.

  26. Who says says:

Actually, by Sunday afternoon President Bigly was being highly criticized for the bomb attack. Many said 59 missles don’t equal a plan or a foreign policy. Also, many thought his administration demonstrated a dangerous degree of incoherence and inconsistency from the time there was a chemical attack until yesterday. Some Republican supporters of the bombing have gone quiet.

      • margie says:

Haha, that seriously is some hideous sh*t. But for real, I do want to know what the heck is going on with her face. Not even because I hate her (I do), just because no person looks like that natural, right?

    • Laughy saphy says:

Versailles is so so so GOOD. I caught it on Netflix and binged the series in a weekend. I can’t wait for the next season.

  30. robyn says:

Who voted for her for president and why does she always seem to flaunt her kids. I see her children and I think of the children that have been killed in Syria not only by Assad but also by her dad’s administration, including an 8-year-old American girl. C O M P L I C I T Ivanka … and not in a “good” way!!!!

  31. why? says:

I’m not buying it. Ivanka has been assisting her father with decisions in the WH since day 1 and not once has he done anything right or what the press calls “presidential”. Where was Ivanka when her father was tweeting that Susan Rice committed a crime and Obama wiretapped him, giving interviews about how Devin Nunes vindicated him, and was offering support to Bill O’Reilly? There was a change in the administration, but that might be to due to HR McMaster taking control, not Ivanka. You have to wonder why all of a sudden Ivanka is trying to take credit. Is this like the time that Ivanka took credit for her father not issuing EO against LBGTQ and then 2 weeks later, Trump demolished the bathroom bills and discrimination laws protecting LBGTQ? Is Ivanka trying to take credit because more journalists are becoming vocal about how they suspect that it was Russia, not Assad, who orchestrated the gas attack? Where was Ivanka’s concern for humanity when her father was blocking refugees and Muslims from entering the US and arresting Mexican men and women as they were taking their kids to school?

It’s much more likely that the order to bomb the airfield with as little damage as possible, came from Putin, not Ivanka. It was obvious that something was up when Kristen Welker and Haillye Jackson were pushing the storyline that Trump was a new and changed man after he saw those photos of the kids. It was emotion that changed Trump. Like he tweeted, it was his ratings dropping to 35% and all talk about Trump’s bad behavior since he has been in office. Trump and Putin orchestrated the entire thing and they used the bombing to change to the focus of the press.

It is very sickening that the press was praising Trump was “presidential”. The press has failed us Bigly!

  32. Layla says:

I really have no words. But I will say this: there is something deeply troubling about those kids performing for the Chinese president. I don’t know what exactly. But seeing it made me want to dig a bunker and live there until this entire national nightmare is over.

    • Embee says:

I feel precisely the same. They truly are trying to establish themselves as a ruling family where power is handed down from one generation to the next. I am sickened that my fellow Americans don’t see this. I feel certain there are many who see this and say “Oh how sweet. Family values.”

  33. Eric says:

Emperor Zero is a Russian agent, now installed in the WH. Apparently, 7 congressional investigations, along with the FBI investigation, are underway. The media bit, and chewed heavily, on the bombing in Syria, which had little effect on changing minds there. Assad can fly planes from the very airport that got hit to deliver fresh rounds of chemical weapon drops on Syrian civilians.
The tomahawk launches were the equivalent of bringing up “Susan Rice,” deflecting the horrid approval ratings and distracting from the real issue: trump/Russia.

Ffs we live in a clouded country.

    • Christin says:

There are reports that a ‘100 days of success’ PR onslaught is planned.

What in the world will they claim as ‘success’? Diversionary topics, and the sheer number they’ve launched? Grifting?

The real story involves laundering, a foreign adversary and emoluments. I hope the Tax Day march is a bigly success and puts the spotlight back on the grifters and the things they don’t want known.

Cloudy, indeed. We’ve got a cloud-making, fog machine laden DC right now.

  34. robyn says:

John McCain in an interview had praise for Trump’s actions in Syria. In that interview, he also spoke about the North Korean leader: “Everything I have read about him is he is not rational. Mr. Kim is the worst kind of adversary because he is an irrational person with nuclear weapons.”

Hmmmm …. irrational person with nuclear weapons? I think that might also describe Trump who is apparently Senator McCain’s new-found hero. Ironic.

  35. Lola Lola says:

Holy Sh*t. That’s insane. I’m surprised he listens to ANY woman. Not to go off topic but if Russia was warned, doesn’t that mean that Syria was warned (by Russia)? I mean, if the US got a heads up that England was about to be bombed, we’d tell them immediately too wouldn’t we? So what was the point? Oh wait, Bigly trying to pretend he actually has any leadership skills? (not supporting what he did at all but trying to get inside his head and good god its ugly in there).

    • Natalie says:

Exactly. This is all propaganda and deflection. I think it is important for us (Americans and beyond) to keep looking at this from the outside in. This isn’t even about a two party system anymore.

  36. Franny says:

And then Assad immediately went back to flying planes out of the location that Ivanka bombed. It’s safe to say that whatever she did, it didn’t work. It did bring Iran and Russia closer together against us, however. Does anyone in the White House brain trust have a plan to deal with that?

    • Lightpurple says:

Plan? They’re supposed to have plans? Their only plans involve making money for themselves.

  37. dholmas says:

How would you Celebitches run the country?

    • pinetree13 says:

Socialized healthcare. Better gun control. Buuuttttt I come from a different country who doesn’t think capitalism is a religion that must be tightly followed. We also score way, way happier on the happiness index! So looks like all that extra money only makes a few happy…being able to get help and not get shot makes the masses a lot happier.

  38. Jag says:

So she cares enough to bomb people, but not enough to let them in the country? The Trumps need to crawl back into the hole from which they emerged.

  39. Deeana says:

I just watched the first season of Versailles and love it! That’s some impressive acting in the sex scenes. My favorite character = the gd ay brother.r

  40. isabelle says:

I haven’t watched the news in the last few days because refuse to watch MSM fawning over comrade cry baby for distraction bombing and dead stopped talking about his Russian collusion. They have a short memory and are egging Donnie on to a much bigger war.

  41. jwoolman says:

I doubt that Precious Ivanka knows much more about the complexities of the Syrian situation than President Tweeter. So she, like her father, is also practicing foreign policy without a license. Okay, he has the license but he never passed the written or practical driving test and can’t see two inches in front of his face without the glasses he doesn’t seem to have .

Do either of them even know how chemical weapons bans are usually handled among grown ups? How they are monitored and who does the monitoring and how violations are dealt with? Did they even know there was a ban agreement in the first place? Or that there are other countries in the world to consult and act with? Or that there is this thing we call Congress that is supposed to approve acts of war? Or that logging 59 missiles at somebody’s airbase just might be in the category “acts of war”? I have no objection to destroying weapons of war (too bad somebody doesn’t do that to our WMDs), but people did die from either a hit or from the effects of the blasts, and they had families too. So did the hundreds killed previously in direct US attacks in Syria.

If the two of them watched more than Fox News, they could have seen plenty of terrible pictures of dead and injured people of all ages who were hit by non-chemical weapons. This is why you don’t just use any weapons on a whim. At least consult further than your own house with people who can tell you how complicated it is and warn you if your plans might actually make things worse even though you yourself will feel better, and suggest other ways to have a stronger effect.

This is more evidence that President Tweeter really does do whatever the last person who talks with him tells him to do. This time it was Ivanka.

    • corporate stepsister says:

So far, there is no concrete proof that it was Assad. It might surprise the Trumps, but ISIS is operating in Syria and this could have been their doing. Assad is fighting against ISIS and they should not be so stupid as to act so quickly. I do not believe that the detailed info is available since the attack on those people only happened less than a week ago. Since Trump is always in Florida, put bluntly, he’s clearly not at all been informed about the particulars of the attack.

  42. TyrantDestroyed says:

Maybe that’s have been her whole plan all the time: Destroying all kinds of human life with a nuclear war so she and her family go and hide in a bunker, inbreeding to repopulate the world with their genes while singing traditional songs in Mandarin 😧

If they want to kill people, Ivanka and Jared need to sign up and put themselves on the front line. Easy to push the death button with no skin in the game. Cowards.

Black to the future unite.

  45. Vox says:

But wasn’t this an Obama administration promise? He said that if Syria ever used biological weapons against their own people they would strike, I’m pretty sure. This seems to be follow through on that promise to me?

    • corporate stepsister says:

We have no concrete evidence that it was Assad that did this. ISIS is embedded in Syria and it could have been them, not the Syrian government. Trump has done this without getting all the facts known (first to Congress and himself and then to the American people) and he’s used up to fifty major missiles. The Chinese and North Koreans are being jointly threatened by Trump while the Russians and Iranians are furious at how Trump’s move has likely derailed their own effective strategic campaign against ISIS.

  46. corporate stepsister says:

This idiot is going to get us into a war against Russia, China, and Iran; he’s upset the military strategy that Russia has been using against ISIS (in conjunction with Assad) and the Chinese might be furious that Trump is agitating North Korea (run by a ruthless dictator in itself) and as for Iran, they’re ISIS free and want to keep it that way. The last thing China needs or wants right now is an agitated North Korea and in a way, China might feel duty bound to defend North Korea against US aggression, which might lead to a confrontation with China.

As it is, China believes that they have rightful suzerain authority over Taiwan and ownership of the Taiwan strait and frankly relations are tense enough because of the issue of Taiwanese independence (not currently recognized by many nations around the world) and Trump brainlessly issued an ultimatum to the Chinese government (stupidly if I may add leaving no room for backing out while preserving ‘face,’ which is another topic entirely) leaving China in an unenviable position and Trump has inadvertently positioned the US in direct confrontation with the Chinese with no possibility of backing out.

So if Princess Nagini actually did in fact encourage her father to do this, the bimbette has in fact put the rest of the world in a position where for the sake of their own regional stability and safety of their people, they will be compelled to unite against the US. These are three countries that with the right handling could in fact become priceless allies of the US, but apparently Princess Nagini prefers in fact to egg on her already volatile father/President.

As for North Korea, China considers herself to be a senior ‘older sister’ to North Korea and China may in fact feel honor-bound to protect what they likely view as one of their tributary states. IN exchange for protection from the wider world and a guarantee of protection (military/economic, whatever is needed), North Korea will always listen and value China’s perspective and often defer to China’s stated goals and decisions.

Put bluntly, if China has to end up protecting a lunatic dictator with nukes and North Korea becomes determined to ignore China and just step things up to a hot war, China will get dragged into it and here in the States we’ll all go up in radiated flames. As will the Middle East and Asia. There is no way that we can get out of this except for some kind of maneuvering that would test Machiavelli.
