So upfront, I like Kate Mara. But I’m always so woefully behind on all things Kate Mara. Like, I remembered that she hails from an American football dynasty, but completely forgot that that she was engaged to Jaime Bell. Or that they were in Fantastic Four together. Honestly, I kind of forgot there was a second F4 movie, having just (ill-advisedly) watched the first one about a month ago. Anyway, they are engaged and planning their wedding, I guess? There aren’t any details so this might be a forever engagement for all I know. However, we do have details on one thing – their romantic origins. Kate appeared with Hillary Swank on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen and someone from the audience began their question with, “we know you met on Fantastic Four… “ and Kate said no, that’s not where they met. Not only was that film’s set not their first encounter, it wasn’t where they fell in love either. Everything we’ve known about this couple is a lie!
Love on the road! Kate Mara revealed how she and her fiancé, Jamie Bell, fell for each other when she dropped by Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Monday, May 22.
Mara, 34, and Bell, 31, starred together on the 2015 film Fantastic Four, but actually met years earlier.
“We didn’t meet on Fantastic Four. We met like 10 years before,” Mara explained. “We did a screen test together and we had to kiss and it was very — I had to kiss many guys that day for the screen test.” (Spoiler: Neither star landed the job!)
The House of Cards alum and Bell would go on to play Sue Storm and Ben Grimm, respectively, in Fantastic Four. Sparks didn’t fly until they were off set, though.
“We fell in love on the press tour,” Mara revealed on Monday.
In August 2015, the pair appeared on WWHL together with costars Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan to promote the film. At the time, Mara chose Bell to marry during a round of “Marry, Shag, Kill” between the three men. Nearly two years later, the couple announced their engagement.
Hollywood is such a surreal environment. “How’d you meet Mom?” “I kissed her before we were introduced but it was so bad, we both lost the job. Then we got another job and got married.” When Kate was talking about not falling for each other until the promo tour, Andy immediately claimed to be the reason they fell in love, for the WWHL appearance referenced in the article. He told Kate, “Oh my God, you’re going to be celebrating your Andy-versary soon,” which, possibly because the world sucks right now, I find incredibly endearing. I can never tell if I would be best pals or frenemies with Andy (yes, I categorize my imaginary relationships with celebrities). I think I would be friends with Kate and Jamie, though. They seem sweet. Quiet, but sweet – and quiet is cool because that means I get to talk more.
I can’t wait for Kate’s Chappaquiddick to come out. Kate plays the lead role of Mary Jo Kopechne. It’s about time Mary Jo is portrayed as more than just “the death that brought down Ted Kennedy.”

I sort of love them both as actors and I feel like they make sense as a couple. I hope this one sticks, they seem sweet.
Please tell me she chose to f* Michael and kill Miles.
Wasn’t she going out with Jamie’s friend Max Minghella for years? It all seems very civil though, they all still seems like friends so I don’t think anything dodgy was going on.
I only know this because I fell down a Max Minghella hole after seeing home in The Handmaid’s Tale. I know I’m not supposed to be watching the show thinking Nick the Chauffeur is hot, but my mind went there.i was thinking about the patriarchy too, I promise!
YES and YES! Max Minghella is my favorite part of that show–and that’s saying a lot because it’s INSANELY good. But anyways, yeah, they dated for a few years…
I love Jamie Bell on Turn. Everyone should watch that show. I am surprised it isn’t more popular. Also, Kate and he make a cute couple.
“Honestly, I kind of forgot there was a second F4 movie, having just (ill-advisedly) watched the first one about a month ago.”
Maybe I’m misreading this statement, but…
There was only one installment of the reboot with Teller/Jordan/Mara/Bell.
There were two earlier F4 movies from 2005 & 2007 (with Gruffudd/Evans/Alba/Chiklis).
I find them really really cute together.
I wish all the happyness to them. I always felt like Jamie whom I loved ever since Billy Elliot, was much more into Evan Rachel Wood than she ever was into him. I hope Kate brings him joy and happyness.
