Saturday Night Live cast member Maya Rudolph and The Office’s Jon Krasinski star in Away We Go, a film about an expectant early 30s couple traveling around the US to figure out where they want to live. It’s directed by Sam Mendes with the screenplay by award-winning writer Dave Eggers, the author of A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius. It looks like such a gem of a film, with great chemistry between the two leads and cameos from Jeff Daniels, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Allison Janney.
Rudolph, 36, is pregnant in the film and she’s also pregnant in real life. She is having her second child with her partner, director Paul Thomas Anderson. Rudolph and Anderson are also parents to a three and a half year old daughter, Pearl Minnie.
Oscar winning actress Kate Winslet showed up at yesterday’s screening in New York to support her husband, director Sam Mendes. I love Winslet but that dress with the odd reverse dickie on the front just isn’t doing it for her. The severe pulled back hair doesn’t flatter her either. Maybe she wanted to look elegant but understated so as not to overshadow the event.
Here’s the trailer for Away We Go, which is out in limited release this Friday, June 5:
Also shown in the premiere photos are Jeffrey Wright and Carmen Ejogo, David Schwimmer, and Allison Lanney hugging Sam Mendes. I wonder why Maggie Gyllenhaal wasn’t there.
