Today Show host Kathie Lee Gifford had to endure her own very public bout with marital infidelity years ago, and now has a few words of wisdom to share with estranged couple Jon and Kate Gosselin, stars of “Jon and Kate Plus 8.” She thinks their reality show should take a back seat, so the couple can take time to work on their family life.
Kathie Lee Gifford — whose own marriage was put to the test when her husband Frank had a 1997 fling with a flight attendant — has a message for embattled reality star Kate Gosselin.
“I would turn off the cameras if I were them and just work on healing together as a family,” Gifford told Usmagazine.com Monday at a spring gala for the American Theatre Wing in NYC. “Who knows the long-term damage something like this could do? I understand they are making a living, but you have to wonder at what price.”
Jon has apologized for his “actions” with 23-year-old school teacher Deanna Hummell; Kate has even gone as far as saying she and Jon may divorce. Their troubles continued last week when the Pennsylvania labor department confirmed it is investigating whether the couple’s TLC show is complying with the state’s child labor laws.
Despite her concerns for the family, Gifford said she hasn’t been keeping up with all the Gosselin’s day-to-day drama.
“I have to say no,” she told Us. “Frank and I are probably the only two people in America avoiding that show. We are not reality fans and prefer to live reality. We sure don’t want cameras following us around and picking on us!”
Way to comment on a show you’ve never even seen, there, Kathie Lee. Sometimes I wonder if she even thinks about the words that come out of her mouth. Kristen Wiig from Saturday Night Live does a dead-on impersonation of Kathie Lee – if you haven’t seen it yet, you must check it out! Gifford, who used to talk incessantly about her husband and two children while co-hosting “Live with Regis and Kathie Lee,” certainly learned her lesson about flaunting her “happy” marriage on the air. But that situation really doesn’t compare. First of all, it’s never appeared that Jon and Kate have had a happy marriage- since day one of their reality show. I really believe Jon and Kate Gosselin – or, at the very least, Jon – have been miserable for a long time, and it’s to the point where neither of them cares to hide it for the cameras anymore. But you know, Kathie Lee, crazy as she is, does raise a question. It looks like Jon and Kate are heading for divorce. Do we really need to see this play out on TV – and more importantly, do their children? At what point will these adults decide to put the emotional and psychological needs of their children first?

This loud mouthed, annoying fame-ho does not have 8 children to put through college either and she’s obviously a lot richer than Jon & Kate. She’s never even seen the show either – what a lame loser. I never again watched that program she’s on once they decided to bring her back to t.v.
MSat, when I saw the title for this article, I was going to come on here and comment about the SNL skit, but you’ve covered it! It is completely dead-on and hilarious every time!
‘At what point will these adults decide to put the emotional and psychological needs of their children first?’
As long as they continue to profit from their family situation, those kids will be in front of the camera.
yada yada. maybe the fourth hour of today should be cancelled.
Hate to say it, but she’s right.
I believe they should be canceled. Jon probably wouldn’t mind if the show got cancelled but I have a feeling Kate would scream her head off about it. She’s trying to be a movie star off her kids back.
Looking at that photo of Frank Gifford gives me an over-powering urge to slather big handfuls of sunscreen all over my body…
New Gitmo torture tactic. Force detainees to watch Jon and Kate plus 8 show and anything Nadya Suleman related!
Well, she’s right and I find her annoying. They really should turn the cameras off and focus on their KIDS and each other, if there’s anything left to salvage there.
But apparently America needs to see the little kids go through the emotional wringer of watching their family self-destruct. On camera. Good Lord.
I am most decidedly NOT a KLG fan, not by a long shot.
But I agree with her, and there is a distinct difference in blathering on about your family on TV ad nauseum….and putting all 10 of you in front of a camera (9 of whom apparently dont have a choice in the matter.)
It’s not the same thing. I find the first one annoying and distasteful; I find the second one to be bordering on sadistic.
Here ‘s a sentence that begins with a phrase I never thought I’d ever type:
Like KLG I’ve never watched a second of this show, and since I think the continual airing this family’s drama to be sadistic to the children, I never ever will.
can kathie lee ever just STFU? horrid woman.
she’s the only person in america who doesn’t follow the show? is she serious? like the rest of america are a bunch of losers with nothing better to do than routinely tune in to the show? newflash biotch, i’ve never seen the show either!you’re not that cool!
One of the older girls (is it Maddie…?), of the twins always looks angry lately. I don’t watch it anymore because it is SO fake now and I cringe at how this is effecting the older girls. It was painful to watch the older girl seem so angry. Turn the cameras OFF.
But PS to KLG (as it relates to the 2nd pic):
Lose the dark lipliner. I’ve seen hookers with better makeup application.

she was the ‘other woman’ in frank’s first marriage.
she forgot to mention that during her
‘pity me’ campaign in the 90’s.
WE LOVE KATHY LEE AN THINK SHE IS RIGHT ON.
