Miley Cyrus on her sister, Noah: ‘I hope other people respect her’

Maybe I am just in a bad mood today because I want to swing my Shut the Hell Up pillow at everyone. The Cyrus family usually makes my head meet the desk and sometimes I truly wonder if they can hear themselves speak. So, as you know, the latest Cyrus is Noah, Miley’s 17-year-old sister. Noah is being packaged as a singer whose inspiration was her country-singing father Billy Ray rather than her big sis’ pop career. So naturally, her first single is your run-of-the mill, studio created Top 40 single. I know music is subjective so I will leave it at: that song is not to my taste. However, the push for Noah is strong in the Cyrus family and they are all coming out in support (defense?) of her. The most vocal is Miley who hopes that Noah is treated with kid gloves.

Miley Cyrus has been through many ups and downs during her 12-year Hollywood career. Now, her sister Noah Cyrus, 17, is making it big in the music industry, and no one is more protective of her than her 24-year-old big sister.

“I think the way people judge you or people would write articles on me when I was a kid going through the times of having crazy breakouts or going through break ups or whatever I was going through, people would treat me like I could handle those comments as an adult, like I had this thick skin.”

As Noah navigates the industry, Miley revealed that she hopes her little sister remains her authentic self.

“I think it makes you jaded, it makes you guarded, and I don’t ever want her to get like that. Or your style or the way that you think because you want to please people,” she said. “I really hope that she never feels those pressures and I hope other people respect her and don’t actually make her something she’s not.”

“Now with Noah being on the road, she kind of understands, more than ever, how I feel of how draining it is. She understands how hard it is now,” the fiancée of Liam Hemsworth explained about life on tour. “Now having someone that really understands how hard it can be when you’re away from home for a month, me and my little sister have a new bond over that.”

[From People]

Let me start by saying that I see Miley’s point about kids being expected to handle fame with an adult’s calloused point of view. To avoid being crushed by public disapproval, Miley said, “I always tell Noah, keep your Instagram comments turned off. Never read anything that anyone says about you. Don’t Google yourself.”

But here’s my issue, they have been grooming Noah for the spotlight since she was nine – likely earlier. They weren’t even pretending she was going to work hard to get there, she started copying Miley’s antics young, and the entire Cyrus family sat back and watched, if not promoted it. So I can’t with this concern about Noah’s exposure. It’s the same thing with Noah being so taxed on the road. I’m sure she is exhausted, but she was backstage watching Miley do it on tours since she was a 14, she must have had some clue. Let’s face it, Noah is a gamble talent-wise. She proved that once again during her challenged performance at the MTV Movie and TV Awards. And, as Kaiser pointed out when she wrote that post, it seemed like Noah got the gig because MTV wanted to keep Miley happy. So is Miley firing warning shots? Leave my sister alone or you lose access to me? I’d be surprised if this works.

Speaking of Cyrus family ventures – looks like Miley’s next mission will be to save mom Tish and sister Brandi’s renovation TV show, Cyrus vs. Cyrus because OMG – this thing looks almost as much a mess as Noah’s live performances.

I love my baby sis so much! Beyond proud angel! You were amazing @iheartradio summer weekend! @noahcyrus

    Respect is something you earn.

I can respect her as in, not wrote mean comments on the internet about her – people can be brutal and I know she’s experienced that. But I feel what Miley means by that is “I hope people don’t criticize her for anything, ever”.

“I always tell Noah, keep your Instagram comments turned off. Never read anything that anyone says about you. Don’t Google yourself.””

So basically just keep pushing your “art” on the public without caring what they say…. nope. I heard her sing at some awards and it was TERRIBLE. The only reason she was there was because of her name, let’s be honest. There are probably lots of women out there with an actual talent for singing waiting tables because they have no connections to get noticed… and someone like her gets invited on stage to sing in front of thousands? And people are suppose not to criticize it?

She’s trying waaaaay too hard convincing us to like Noah. Just stop. It’s embarrassing.

I loved Noahs song with Labrynth but mostly because of Labrynth. Now thats an artist with talent and versatility who isnt getting his due respect.

  4. HadToChangeMyName says:

Her face! Who does that to a 17 year old? She looks older than Miley.

    • Chaine says:

Is it fillers? Whatever it is, she needs to stop/reverse it, because it is incredibly aging. Some of the pix, she reminds me of Courtney Cox, and in the third one down, it is like, a sixty year old puffed with fillers, a real housewife or something.

  5. Alex says:

Considering she talked her way through her last performance (AND managed to be off pitch) I can’t deal. Stop trying to make her happen. I’m also over Miley’s “new” image which is hippie free spirit now that she’s discarded her “black” performance style.

  6. Isn’t the Cyrus family’s 15 minutes up yet?

  7. QQ says:

So not Only she expects us to give her country but now we have to treat the thirsty Talent-free lil Sister with Kids Glove in spite of the fact we can all have ears and decline this Invite??? GTEFO

  8. minx says:

Send the kid to college. They have heard of college, haven’t they?

  9. deevia says:

We already had Cher and Dolly Parton. We are done with our PS quotas for this century – thank you! Why is she morphing into Sandra Oh? People be mocking Asian features yet all the famous ones paid money for the cheekbones and slanted eyes.

  10. Deanne says:

Sorry, respect is something earned. I don’t respect Miley or think she’s talented. Her sister, even less. These nepotism cases are all groomed from a young age and seem to expect the public to fall in line and accept them as legitimate performers.

  11. serena says:

“..Or your style or the way that you think because you want to please people,”.. isn’t it too late for that though? Look at how much she messed up her face already.. and she’s only 17.. good lord.

I understand she’s worried about Noah, but she can’t be guarded forever against mean comments and keep living in her bubble. If Noah wants respect , she needs to work for it and shows she deserves her success despite nepotism and all.

  12. KatieBo says:

Stop trying to make “Noah” happen. It’s not going to happen.

  13. Erica_V says:

If she really wanted to protect her Miley would’ve talked her out of whatever she did to her face. E gads that’s sad.

  14. hogtowngooner says:

Noah looks like a cabbage patch doll. That’s all I got.

  15. Patricia says:

Well Miley lucked out with the gene pool in that family. Both of her sisters are… not cute. At least Miley is cute and pretty. Is this shallow? Probably. But they are entertainers and being moderately attractive is kind of a deal breaker.

  16. vespernite says:

Miley is protecting Noah now from the big bad public because she is hoping that she will give up her pipe dream. Which she will once she becomes curious or narcissistic enough to turn those Instagram comments back on. BWAHHH!

  17. CynicalAnn says:

If her family actually loved her and wanted the best for her, and wanted to help her self esteem they would have her in high school somewhere, singing in the high school musical and applying to college. And then, when she’s got her BA and is 25 and still wants to sing out in the real world she can go for it.

  18. Idkatall says:

I know they are not twins, but Noah gives the vibe of an evil twin that should go back to the dark hole where she came from.
As someone here said, haven’t they heard of college? She’d do better in college than in the music industry.
