Ryan Reynolds on Wonder Woman beating Deadpool: ‘Her B.O. is Stronger’

I really dig Ryan Reynolds. I’ve held a crush for him since Two Guys, A Girl and A Pizza Place. I remember watching him through the years and thinking, why doesn’t this guy have more of a career? And then, well – Deadpool. Ryan likes to remind us of Deadpool, too. I get it – I’m sure he’s hoping to get as much career mileage from that character that Hugh Jackman did from Wolverine. God bless, I have no problem with self-promotion. And personally, I find Ryan’s self-promotion very entertaining. Over the weekend, fellow superhero, DC’s dynamo Wonder Woman, surpassed Deadpool’s $363 million domestic box office take by $5 million. As it stands, Wonder Woman has earned $746 worldwide, whereas Deadpool still tops that at $783 million. However, many think WW will topple that record as well. So what happened when Ryan caught wind of WW over taking him? He offered up his congratulations… in as Deadpool-esque a way as possible:

The Merc May Be Filthier, but Her B.O. is Stronger. Congrats #WonderWoman #BoxOfficeBoss

So obviously, the B.O. is a joke, just like when he called his six-month old old daughter’s artwork ‘garbage’. It’s also in keeping with the Deadpool character. I think it’s funny, charming and fans the flame of my Ryan love. It should be noted that Ryan is not the first member of the rival Marvel Universe to throw up some WW love. When the movie opened, Marvel mastermind Kevin Feige gave a statement, while others congratulated the film on social media:

Technically Joss Whedon is a hybrid, but still:

As of this writing, Wonder Woman herself, Gal Gadot, has not responded to Ryan but I haven’t given up hope. She played along with Chris Hemsworth/Thor, I think she’s game.

Update by Celebitchy: Gal Gadot has responded on Instagram by thanking Reynolds for acknowledging her stronger B.O. (my words).

@vancityreynolds you're the best! Thank you for this.. love you and #Deadpool so much! 💋❤⭐️🤘🏼

So is the world ready for a Deadpool/Wonder Woman showdown? Ryan is currently filming Deadpool 2 -maybe it’s time to bridge the two Universes. Although, I think the biggest fight between Deadpool and Wonder Woman would likely be over language.

She did respond I believe via instagram. And then the WW insta regrammed her response. I remember seeing her reply a few days ago

  2. Izzy says:

The “B.O.” isn’t a joke – it stands for Box Office.

    • Nicole says:

It IS a joke. It also stands for body ordor which is the whole point of the joke. It’s a double meaning hence the first line about Deadpool being filthier.

    • Lena says:

The joke is using something that can have two meanings and in a way that both meanings make sentences.

He is actually starting to grow on me. Dare I say that I actually like him now. He really does seem charming and down to earth.

I think my main issue with him wasn’t really about him personally but more on a bigger scale that he benefited from. He is a perfect example of a white man getting chance after chance to fail. He and the guy from Friday Night Lights have been in several large scale bombs but still had access to projects that get funded. I think why he is growing on me is because he is aware of that fact and is hopefully trying to balance the scales a bit with his new found success.

You do make a valid point about Reynold’s career. Before DEADPOOL, the talk was whether his career could survive, what type of film should he do, that kind of thing.

    • Jegede says:

Ryan was actually terrific in recent movies like Mississippi Grind and The Voices.

Sadly those are few and far between.

It would serve him better to do small-scale films like that while sticking only to Deadpool for the big guns. But that won’t happen.

      • third ginger says:

Yes. Character actor can be a great move. Not everyone has to be a major leading man, and the whole idea of “leading man” is is changing.

      • Jerusha says:

He was very good in Woman in Gold, also. My grandson and I are looking forward to Deadpool 2.
To add to what third ginger said, the days when people flocked to a film because X, Y, or Z starred in it are over. Very few movies sell on the star’s name alone. It’s a smart move to gain cred by working in smaller, indy films.

      • frisbee says:

ITA with you two, ginge3 (your own CB nickname third ginger) 😉makes a really good point, there are no film stars anymore, even RDJ whose actually a really good actor can’t open a stand alone film on his own

      • holly hobby says:

Yes I liked Woman in Gold. He was good in that and the story was great! The actress from Orphan Black played the young Helen Mirren. Her hubby was played by Jeremy Irons’ son.

      • Elisa the I. says:

Ha, I saw Woman in Gold yesterday on TV and he really was quite good in it! Also, the film is worth seeing!

      • Marianne says:

        Buried is pretty good too.

    • lucy2 says:

It always bothered me that actresses were written off after one or two bombs, but Reynolds kept getting movie after movie. I know his career definitely struggled (and his comeback with Deadpool was a great move) but he definitely had a bubble of protection around him that women or people of color do not get.

I’ve never been a crazy fan of his but he is a decent actor in the right role, and he seems like he has a great sense of humor.

Ryan Reynolds can be charming and funny, but of those weighing in above, Mark Ruffalo is my favorite, one of our finest American actors. Nice of all those people to support WW. My husband and I loved it and both cried.

    • Nicole says:

I love Ruffalo. He’s had some missteps but he tends to take criticism seriously which I also like. Science bros forever (well just Ruffalo and RDJ lol)

      • Bethy says:

I’m a Science Bro fan too and Mark is my get out of jail free pass. I love a man with salt n pepper hair whose a feminist and cares about the environment. He’s so sexy, I’d take him over Ryan any day.

      • frisbee says:

@ Bethany Ruffolo is better than ALL the Ryan’s!

Same here, Hecate. I’ve loved RR since TGAGAAPP. I love a man with a sense of humor (especially about himself), and he’s hot to boot. As far as him getting multiple chances, I think it’s because he really is talented, he just has/had a knack for not doing the best projects. The movies themselves may not have been great or very successful, but he was usually really good in them. I have no doubt him being a white man played a part, I just don’t think that’s the sole reason.

    • third ginger says:

Reynolds is a case of an actor having a gift for comedy but being pushed in some ways as a serious leading man. He’s always been better in comedies, so DEADPOOL with its action-comedy turned out to be perfect for him. His career reminds me of Alec Baldwin’s in some ways. It took Hollywood a while to discover that he is a comic actor [although unforgettable in GLENN GARRY, GLENN ROSS]

      • smcollins says:

Very true. While he has turned in some decent dramatic performances (the title escapes me, but the movie where he plays the military contractor who’s been buried alive comes to mind) he definitely excels in more comedic roles. Or comedy-dramas like Definitely Maybe (one of my favorite RR movies).

  6. grabbyhands says:

I feel like I am the only person that saw Deadpool and was “Meh”. I’m pleased that they did it, because even as a superhero movie fan, the genre still needs to be poked every once in a while so it doesn’t take itself too seriously.

I love it when the fandoms support each other, especially when that support is being put behind a female led project. So even thought I find him handsome but exhausting, I love that he did this.

    • brooksie says:

I’m right there with you! I was wondering what all of the hype was about while watching it.

  7. kaye says:

I LOVED TWO GUYS A GIRL AND A PIZZA PLACE!!!

    that is all.

  8. Beth says:

I really enjoyed Wonder Woman, but Deadpool is my favorite movie EVER. It’s awesome to see movies that are actually very good instead of some really boring and stupid ones

  9. Lucy says:

I loved this. Ryan’s cool in my book.

  10. Michelle says:

I love RR. He reminds me of what Tom Hanks did back in the day. He was on Bosum Buddies and did a few films and then BAM! he hits it big and is a very popular guy. I hope he has the same success. Follow him on Twitter…he’s hilarious!
